Description of the Browning BAR Zenith carbine
A self-loading carbine, the kinematic design of which is similar to the Browning BAR Long Track and Mark II models. The gas piston and return mechanism are located under the barrel. A special feature of the design is that the magazine has become completely removable - in previous models it remained on the hinged lid of the hopper.
In addition, the safety button has been moved from the rear branch of the trigger guard to the butt plate of the receiver. It not only blocks the trigger, but also removes it from combat platoon. The carbine is equipped with a Batyu rail and an open front sight with a red fiber-optic thread. Installation of optical sights is not provided - there are no mounting holes on the receiver cover.

Advantages and disadvantages
- High quality workmanship, the degree of reliability is quite sufficient for hunting in normal conditions, far from extreme. However, this is a rather elegant, European “thing”. For those who dream of a rough, tough weapon and the reliability of an AK, it is better to immediately choose the “Tiger” or “Vepr”.
- The magazine is made completely removable, however, only in order not to violate the design of the carbine, there is a dimensional pad on its lower edge that does not have any functional duties. This increases the weight of the magazine and makes carrying a spare one not very convenient.
- The delivery set includes a protective cover for the trigger guard, which can be locked with a key or by entering a digital code. This makes it possible to make the weapon inaccessible for use by others. For example, children.
- The barrel bore is locked by a rotating cylinder, which has seven lugs. Therefore, the shooting qualities of the weapon are close to those of bolt rifles. However, he is far from sniper standards. The MOA value is at least three units.
- External sighting devices are equipped with fiber-optic threads. The Batu bar has two green ones located at the edges of the slot, and the front sight has one red one. The fact that there are no mounting holes on the receiver for a rail for optical sights somewhat reduces the functionality of the weapon. However, it was designed exclusively for driven hunts at distances of up to 100 meters. These types of sights are usually not used on them.
- The carbine has a perfectly crafted stock, which was made from walnut wood with a particularly beautiful natural pattern. The shock-absorbing buttplate stock has a boar's back comb and a Bavarian cushion ridge.
- The butt neck is too thin; if the fastening screw connecting it and the receiver is loosened, cracks may occur. The handguard is somewhat rough, but this is explained by the location of the gas piston mechanism underneath it.
- The receiver is decorated with wood or cupronickel plates with engravings depicting hunting scenes.
Since 2013, carbines have been equipped with a manual decocking mechanism (Hand Cock). Its lever is located on the butt plate of the receiver; it replaced the safety button, which was located on the rear branch of the trigger guard. It has become more convenient for them to operate, and the overall safety of the weapon has increased.
However, the designers were primarily concerned with circumventing the law prohibiting the use in Europe of self-loading weapons with a magazine capacity of more than two rounds. The ability to de-cock a weapon turns it into a not-quite-full-fledged semi-automatic weapon.

Hunting self-loading carbine Browning BAR Zenith
For some time now, Browning International SA has offered its BAR rifles, undoubtedly one of the most popular and widely used rifled hunting weapons in the world, with an additional manual cocking system called “HC” (Hand Safety).
We are talking about making changes to the classic semi-automatic reloading system, in which, under pressure, the forend returns forward, feeding the next cartridge into the chamber without cocking the hammer, which must be cocked manually by the shooter using the manual safety button located on the pistol grip next to the outer protrusion of the hammer. The button must be pressed with your thumb and pressed forward slightly to compress the inner trigger spring.
This system is optional. Therefore, automatic cocking systems will continue to be commercially available for those who prefer to handle semi-automatic weapons. However, the new model has gained enormous popularity (as has the Browning brand itself) because it provides an even higher level of reliability, characteristic of all BAR carbines, allowing the most discerning shooters to have complete control over all stages of preparation and each shot.
At this year's SHOT Show in Las Vegas, Browning announced that manual safety will be available on all Zenith BAR models by the end of 2013. In addition, the fore-end and butt are made of valuable wood. The following manual safety models will be available: Wood, Ultimate, Big Game and Wood Affût.
The potential of manual cocking is not limited only to such aspects as safety and improving the quality of each individual shot. This system could help Browning introduce the BAR to markets in countries such as the UK and Australia, where hunters are unfortunately unable to use this excellent weapon due to their laws banning the use of semi-automatic, long-barreled center-mounted rifles. ignition.
A manual safety essentially makes the gun non-semi-automatic because the handguard returns forward to chamber the next round, but the hammer must be cocked manually. This way, importers and retailers will be able to find a way to still offer the BAR HC to their customers without running afoul of strict legal requirements, as the new model no longer has restricted technical features.

Browning BAR Zenith Big Game Fluted rifled carbine cal.30-06
The Browning BAR Zenith is the latest generation of semi-automatic carbines from the Browning brand, and is the result of Browning's many years of experience in the development of semi-automatic carbines. The carbine is distinguished by its reliable design; the most modern production methods are used in its manufacture.
Cold forged barrels, chrome plated on the inside and blued on the outside. In Fluted models they are thick-walled, with flutes.
The weapon's excellent balance is largely due to its intelligent weight distribution, while the design features and shock-absorbing buttplate ensure smooth recoil.
The safety of the carbine is ensured by a manual safety with a button on the back of the trigger guard or a manual decocking mechanism (Hand Cock). The manual cocking mechanism is located on the buttplate of the receiver.
Its lever is a slider with a button; it not only blocks the trigger, but also engages and disarms the weapon.
The non-adjustable trigger is distinguished by a short trigger stroke, with a trigger force of 1 kg, which ensures reliable operation (the manufacturer warns against attempts to make independent adjustments of the trigger mechanism).
For the convenience of the shooter, there is a mechanism for setting the bolt stop after firing the last cartridge. The release lever is located between the forend and the receiver, on the right side.
The carbine can be equipped with an internal interchangeable magazine mounted on a rotating magazine cover, or with a completely removable magazine.
External sighting devices are equipped with fiber-optic threads, which increases the convenience of aiming.
The Browning BAR Zenith carbine can be recommended for driven hunts for large ungulates. It operates reliably and trouble-free, is easy to use and is distinguished by high shooting accuracy and workmanship.
- The delivery set includes swivels, a rail for mounting optics, a key, and a replaceable front sight.
- Three varieties of Browning BAR Zenith are available:
- Prestige Wood - stock made of selected walnut wood, lining on a light alloy receiver made of wood.
- Prestige Big Game - a stock made of selected walnut wood, a lining on a light-alloy receiver made of nickel silver, with artistic engraving depicting hunting scenes.
- Ultimate Fluted - Reinforced thick-walled fluted barrel, regular quality walnut stock, nickel silver lining on a light alloy receiver.
Operating principle
- The carbine's reloading mechanism uses the principle of a gas engine. Part of the powder gases is taken from the barrel bore and actuates a piston with a return mechanism. After the shot is fired, the bolt frame is pushed back, removes the spent cartridge case, cocks the firing pin of the trigger mechanism and then returns, picking up a cartridge from the magazine along the way. When chambering, the bolt cylinder rotates in the breech and locks it onto six lugs.
- The carbine can be loaded in two ways: by removing the magazine, for which the latch lever on the front branch of the trigger guard is pressed, and also through the cartridge ejector window, with the bolt frame retracted. If there are no cartridges in the magazine, the shutter delay mode is activated.
- The Browning BAR Zenith can be fired single rounds by placing the rounds on the magazine feeder. The bolt carrier is released from the delay by pressing the lever on the right side of the receiver. It feeds a cartridge into the chamber, after which you can pull the trigger.
- The manual cocking mechanism is located on the buttplate of the receiver. Its lever is a slider with a button. To deactivate a weapon, you need to press the button and move the slider down. So that the red dot closes. In this position, the firing pin is decocked, the weapon is safe in any case, even when the trigger is pulled.
Disassembly
The carbine mechanism consists of many parts; disassembling it while traveling is not recommended. For preventative cleaning, it is enough to remove the forend and treat the return mechanism with technical fluid such as WD-40.
- Remove the magazine, pull the bolt, and make sure there is no cartridge in the chamber.
- Unscrew the screw on the forend (the location where the swivel is installed, which can serve as a key).
- Pull the recoil mechanism weight towards the receiver.
- Pull the piston pusher and remove it from it.
- Unscrew the nut on the gas chamber and push the piston out from the receiver.
- Knock out the shaft of the barrel delay lever, remove the guides from the weighting material.
- Pull the bolt frame back, remove the return mechanism rod with the spring.
- Knock out the mounting pins of the trigger and remove it from the receiver.
- Remove the bolt handle and disengage it from the receiver guides.
To remove the stock, it is necessary to dismantle the butt plate, under which there is a deep groove for the mounting screw.
