Gletcher TT-P air pistol - a plastic copy of the combat Tokarev

Review of the Gletcher TT-P air pistol

The Tula Tokarev (meaning a real combat pistol) has almost a century-old history: its production began in 1933. The TT became the first army self-loader, replacing the outdated revolvers and several other revolvers. Easy to manufacture and use, reliable, with serious power (a bullet from it pierced army helmets and even light body armor from a short distance) - it is still widespread in modern times.

There were and still are a large number of complete or partial copies of the TT - it was produced in a dozen countries. Copies are produced as combat and sports, traumatic and pneumatic.

Under the American brand Gletcher, copies of Tokarev are already produced - Gletcher TT (metal, with a blowback) and Gletcher TT NBB (metal, but without a blowback).

The TT-P model is a new product; it is distinguished from the original (and from the Gletcher TT) by its material: the pistol is made of plastic (the body itself, the bolt frame and the grips). Like most air pistols, this model is powered by a CO2 cylinder located in the handle (and not in the magazine, as is often common).

Externally, compared to the original, there are differences:

  • the presence of inscriptions in white paint on both sides of the butt (with a few steps, a knowledgeable person will easily understand that this is an “air”);
  • absence of a blowback (the shutter is stationary and is integral with the body);
  • the difference in weight is too big (less than 400 grams for the TT-P and almost 1 kilogram for the combat TT).

The pistol's trigger is quite tight and has virtually no idle movement. A light force is enough to fire.

The power is mediocre - 3 J (enough to pierce a glass bottle from a 10-meter mark), with an initial bullet speed of 120 m/s (performance at the level of a budget pneumatic, which is what the model is). Precision shooting at small targets can be carried out normally at a distance of up to 10-15 meters - at this distance from the target, the bullets will fall in a circle with a diameter of about 5 centimeters.

Advantages and disadvantages

The advantages of the Glatcher TT-R model include:

  • comparatively cheap (the model costs about 3500-4000 rubles);
  • good visual resemblance to the original;
  • economical gas consumption (1 cylinder is enough for about 70-80 shots - which is above average).

There are also disadvantages:

  • lack of blowback;
  • there is no possibility of installing a laser target or an under-barrel flashlight (although on a model whose prototype is a pistol released almost a century ago, such elements would look out of place);
  • case material – plastic;
  • tight and overly sensitive trigger mechanism.

Light weight can be considered both an advantage (easy to carry and shoot) and a disadvantage (feels like a toy in the hand).

Purpose

The model is intended for recreational shooting from a short distance (up to 15-20 meters on average). Due to its similarity with military weapons, it can also be used to ensure security - in a conflict situation, the enemy is unlikely to be able to understand whether it is a real pistol or a copy.

The bullet cannot cause any real damage (except for a shot in the eye) - so the gun can only be used for the purpose of psychologically influencing an opponent.

Advantages and disadvantages

The undoubted advantages of Gletcher TT-P include the following facts:

  • does not require registration and the owner of a license;
  • good indicators of shooting accuracy and combat accuracy;
  • reliable resemblance to the original;
  • economical gas consumption;
  • low cost.

The model also has a number of disadvantages:

  • plastic case;
  • tight trigger mechanism, quick response to pressure;
  • lack of blowback mechanism.

The lightweight pistol is comfortable to carry and hold when shooting, but at the same time it feels like a toy in your hand.

Device

The entire body of the pistol, including the bolt and grips, is made of plastic. The bolt and trigger are stationary. There are white inscriptions on both sides of the slide: on the left is TT-P (model name), on the right is the caliber and manufacturer information.

The sighting elements are the front sight and rear sight with a narrow slot. They are as simple as possible, small, not adjustable, but for aiming at short (10-20 meters) distances they are quite convenient.

The handle has textured overlays on both sides. On the left side, the cover is removed - a compartment for the cylinder is hidden under it (the solution is not entirely usual - in most air pistols the cylinder compartment is located in the magazine). On the left, in the corner of the handle, there is also a swivel for attaching a strap (like the combat prototype).

On the left, next to the trigger guard, there is a thumb button for easy magazine removal. The store itself is not full-size, narrow, stick-type. A clamping screw is located behind the magazine compartment.

The fuse is located on the right side of the housing. It is made in the form of a small slider moving in a horizontal plane. The position closer to the shooter means the safety is installed, further away from the shooter it’s removed.

Video review of the Gletcher TT-P air pistol:

Description

The Gletcher TT model range includes three varieties:

  • Gletcher TT, with a blowback, made of metal;
  • Gletcher TT NBB, without blowback mechanism, made of metal;
  • Gletcher TT-P, without blowback, made of plastic.

The energy source for all three models is a carbon dioxide cylinder located in the handle. The weapon is equipped with a double-action trigger mechanism; firing is carried out with both a pre-cocked hammer and self-cocking. All pistols are marked in white on both sides of the slide with the model name and manufacturer's logo.

The body of the Gletcher TT-P is made of plastic. Like its predecessor, the Gletcher TT NBB Tokarev air pistol, the plastic model does not have a blowback mechanism.

TT-R is designed for recreational or sport shooting at short distances (up to 20 m). Enough power to shoot through a glass bottle at such a distance.

The bullet will not cause noticeable physical damage, except if it hits the eyes. But in a situation of conflict or attack, visual similarity to the original can have a significant psychological impact on the enemy.

The pistol is ideal for beginners and anyone who wants to have fun shooting at a shooting range or range. Even children can use it under the close supervision of adults.

Design

The pneumatic body is solid cast, the shutter is fixed. This explains the lack of a blowback mechanism. All body parts and decorative linings on the handles (cheeks) are made of high-quality plastic, the trigger mechanism is made of metal.

The cheek piece on the left side of the handle is removable. Underneath there is a compartment for a gas cylinder. On the same side in the corner there is a loop for attaching a safety belt, in full accordance with the combat original.

On the left, next to the trigger guard, there is a button that helps remove the magazine. The location is not accidental; it is here that it is convenient to press the button with the thumb of your right hand.

On the right side of the housing there is a fuse, which is a valve that moves in a horizontal plane. In a position close to the handle, the safety is activated, in a position close to the muzzle, it is removed.

Sighting elements are not adjustable. The rear sight and front sight are small in size, extremely simple, and very convenient for shooting at the recommended distance.

Performance characteristics

The pistol has the following tactical and technical characteristics:

  • length – 19 cm;
  • weight – 0.4 kg;
  • gas consumption – up to 80 shots;
  • smooth type barrel;
  • power – up to 3 J;
  • ammunition – explosive balls with a caliber of 4.5 mm;
  • initial bullet speed – 120 m/s;

The price of the Gletcher TT-R air pistol ranges around 3,500 rubles.

Operating principle

The energy source is a carbon dioxide cylinder, which is inserted into a compartment in the handle. Inside it, the gas is in gaseous – on top – and liquid – on the bottom – phases.

When you press the trigger, the hole in the cylinder opens and part of the gas escapes through the valve into the barrel, carrying the bullet under pressure. As the pressure in the cylinder drops, part of the liquid phase turns into a gaseous phase. For this reason, a delay (1-3 seconds) has to be made between shots so that the pressure inside the cylinder has time to recover - this can be attributed to the disadvantages of weapons of this type.

Another disadvantage is the dependence of the pressure in the cylinder on the ambient temperature. The colder it is outside (or in the room where shooting is taking place), the lower the pressure will be. For example, at +20 degrees the pressure will be about 60 atmospheres, at 0 - about 33, and at -10 - about 26.

Disassembly

To disassemble an air pistol you need:

  • Remove both trims from the handle.
  • Remove the magazine and cylinder.
  • Unscrew the screw under the muzzle.
  • Holding the plug in front of the barrel (which was held in place by the unscrewed screw), pull the bolt back.
  • Lifting the back of the shutter, pull it forward and remove it along with the plug.

This complete disassembly is complete. To continue:

  • Unscrew the bolts on both sides of the housing.
  • Separate the housing halves.

Upgrade

Due to the cheapness and low reliability, it is not very advisable to carry out a serious update of the pistol, especially since out of the box it shows normal results.

For those who want to increase power, you can do the following:

  1. Carefully drill out the hole in the valve through which gas flows from the cylinder - this will increase the consumption of carbon dioxide when firing, but will allow more gas to escape (which means the shot will be stronger).
  2. At the point of contact between the magazine and the barrel (easy to see by removing the bolt and replacing the magazine), install a fluoroplastic (for example) gasket to reduce gas etching.
