Description
The Crosman Benjamin Trail NP XL air rifle is a product of Chinese manufacturers, but is considered an original copy of the American company Crosman. This type of weapon is considered quite affordable and is perfect for those who have decided to master pneumatics for the first time. The weapon set also includes a belt and an optical sight, which allow you to successfully aim at a target at a distance of 50 meters.
The complete set of the Crosman Benjamin Trail NP XL rifle contains an optical sight with brackets, a belt for attaching which the rifle is equipped with special swivels, instructions, a warranty card and a passport. The weapon and its parts are packed in a cardboard box.
The rifle's accuracy indicator is quite good - from a 10-meter distance, a bullet can hit a target within a radius of 1.5-2 cm. With an experienced shooter, this indicator can improve at longer shooting distances.
Design
The appearance of the rifle is original and attracts the eye of a shooter of any level. This feature is achieved due to the absence of a front sight, which is so common for rifles, and the presence of a silencer with which the barrel is equipped. The barrel material is steel, and the stock is beech.
The piston uses the Nitro Piston system, which allows you to reduce the sound of the shot together with a silencer located along the entire length of the barrel and use less effort when cocking.
The rifle grip is pistol-type and has a slot for the thumb. The trigger is equipped with a 2-stage system, and in front of it is a manually operated safety. The textured surface of the handle prevents your hands from slipping when using the weapon.
Given the strong level of recoil when fired, the wooden butt of the rifle is equipped with a rubber butt pad. For a beginner, such recoil force will be unusual and may leave unpleasant sensations. Instead of the usual dovetail, the rear of the rifle barrel is equipped with a Weaver rail, which ensures reliable attachment to it and long service life of the optical sight.
The Center Point 3-9×40 riflescope is high quality with adjustment rings on the top and right. The scope body is filled with nitrogen, tightly closed and protected from moisture penetration.
The rifle is loaded by breaking the barrel, which causes the piston to move back and compress the spring. This opens the chamber to place a bullet in it. In order to fire a shot, you must press the trigger, which activates the piston, spring, and air under pressure leaves the barrel along with the bullet.

- The presence of a double-sided cheek, which makes it possible to use it equally by right-handers and left-handers.
- Availability of Weaver rail for optics.
- One of the main advantages of the rifle is its complete set, including an optical sight and a silencer.
- The butt plate is lined with rubber and has a wide thumb slot for ease of shooting.

- It is impossible to shoot at close range due to the lack of a front sight and target indicator.
- The center of gravity is significantly shifted forward.
- The weapon must be loaded by breaking the barrel, which can gradually deteriorate the accuracy of the shot due to the displacement of the axis play.
Fracture Benjamin Trail NP XL - large and quiet supermagnum
For those who prefer larger sizes, Benjamin has created a truly large rifle, the Trail NP XL. This impressive break barrel rifle fires heavy 5.5mm bullets at 245 m/s and light lead bullets of the same caliber at 275 m/s!
Not long ago, Crosman released a very worthy rifle based on the Nitro Piston. However, this time, the manufacturers took into account all the strengths and weaknesses, and equipped the “Benjamin Trail NP XL” with a new optical sight, a quick-release sling swivel and a very powerful power source.
It seems to me that the engineers who developed this rifle just came up with the idea one day: “Why don’t we cross Remington and NPSS Benjamin Super Streak?” Judge for yourself: The rifle stock is very similar to the Super Streak. It is made entirely of wood and has raised cheeks on each side, making it equally comfortable for right-handers and left-handers. The rifle also has several distinctive textured elements on the grip and under the forend, and in this way it also resembles the “Super Streak”. Perhaps the butt is a little thick and heavy, but this is very individual. What makes the “Trail NP XL” unique is that the rifle already has a factory sling swivel on the rear and a sling mount on the front under the barrel. Perhaps the “Trail NP XL” is the only rifle that is equipped with these options from the factory.
Benjamin has solved a major design problem with practical improvements in the new Trail NP XL. If you've ever shot a spring-loaded Magnum, you know how much effort it takes to keep the scope mounted on the rifle in the right position. Surely you are familiar with the situation when the sight repeatedly fell off, slipped, and in the end, the mount simply fell apart. Instead of relying on the old unreliable mounting systems, the Benjamin replaced the standard 11mm. "dovetail" to a military-style Weaver bar. The difference is simply colossal! Now the devices are installed securely and do not move, as they are firmly attached to the weapon.
Unlike the “Super Streak”, the “Trail NP XL” has a very practical 3-9x40 AO MD optical sight. This is a simple and reliable sight without unnecessary bells and whistles. The 16x scope of the “Super Streak” was too sophisticated, and many were not always satisfied with the picture quality. It is generally accepted that 3-9x40 optics are practical "mid-range" scopes that are preferred by most shooters. Naturally, this implies the use of a rifle for hunting and plinking. For sports, completely different sights are used.
Like all others, Benjamin Trail NP XL has its drawbacks. Perhaps the biggest disappointment is that this rifle is made in China. For example, Crosman manufactures its NPSS in the USA, and there were hopes that the new flagship of the line of break-barrel rifles would be produced in the USA, but alas. These rifles are imported from China.
The next problem is rather functional. The descent is traditional Crosman and just as hard as the Super Streak. The second stage is too long, which makes it difficult to shoot in groups from the machine. You will not have any problems with sport shooting in the field and hunting, but as for the most accurate and accurate shooting, this drawback is very noticeable.
However, where Benjamin Trail NP XL has no equal is power! It would seem that it is possible to achieve the withered “Crosman” 275 m/s with a conventional 5.5 mm caliber bullet. not so easy, but Benjamin Trail NP XL makes it easy! When testing the rifle with 0.92g Crosman Premier Hollow points bullets, the average velocity was no less than 274.7 m/s throughout the day. Another strong point of the Trail NP XL is its noise characteristics. The low noise level is achieved thanks to two things: the Nitro Piston system, which reduces the mechanical noise characteristic of many spring rifles, and the integrated moderator. According to the manufacturer, the noise of the rifle is reduced by 70% compared to similar ones, and surprisingly, this is true! Compared to other rifles, the Benjamin Trail NP XL is a whisper. By the way, most 5.5 mm rifles are much louder than the Benjamin, and at the same time, significantly inferior to it in power. (It must be said that the Benjamin Trail NP XL outperforms even the RWS 350 Mag).
As for the advantages of a gas-spring pneumatic over a standard spring weapon, you just need to shoot it and everything will become clear. Cocking is much smoother and, in general, the full charging cycle is completed faster and with less recoil. Simply put, you get a smoother shooting and more accurate rifle. These are the main characteristics of Benjamin Trail NP XL.
The only major drawback that the Crosman is worth spending a little time and money on is the trigger mechanism. You need to try different grips and learn how to properly hold the rifle so that you can achieve good accuracy.
Here are the results of the “Benjamin Trail NP XL” test with “Crosman Premier Hollow points” bullets:
Speed: min. 273.4 m/s, max. 275.6 m/s, average speed: 274.5 m/s, difference – 2 m/s.
The spread is only 2 m/s. – this is simply incredible, you must agree!
To summarize, I would like to note that the “Benjamin Trail NP XL” is a worthy weapon, the rate of fire of which is usually characteristic of PCP rifles. In addition, in the kit you additionally receive an optical sight and a carrying strap. It will take some time to get used to some of its features, but after shooting 500-1000 bullets, you will realize that you have acquired a truly accurate, quiet and incredibly powerful rifle.
