The CZ 557 carbine is the brainchild of Ceska Zbrojovka as, whose headquarters are located in a small Carpathian town in the south-east of the Czech Republic. This model is based on the design of the legendary Mauser 98 rifle. This rifle survived two world wars and dozens of local conflicts, and its design became one of the most successful in the 20th century. Today, in Europe and North America, many rifles of different calibers are produced based on the Mauser.
One such example is the CZ 557 carbine, which is designed as a weapon for hunting a wide variety of game. The Czech carbine inherited from its German ancestor strength, reliability, long service life and the ability to work even in adverse environmental conditions.
This is a bolt-action carbine with a removable magazine. The adjustable trigger allows you to change the force on the trigger and the distance of the working stroke. It is adjusted with a special screw - it can be found in the front part of the trigger. A nice feature is the ability to adjust the trigger without disassembling the carbine.
CZ 557 carbines are available with a two-position safety. In this case, the shutter and trigger are completely blocked: the shooter simply cannot open the shutter and press the trigger. When cocking the firing pin from the bolt, an indicator appears at the rear of the bolt - its appearance can be checked visually or by touch.
Another feature of Czech carbines is the free-floating barrel. This design provides a barrel that does not touch the forearm along its entire length. All modifications use rifled barrels with four right-hand cuts, made using cold forging technology. Czech rifles are produced with different barrel lengths: from 520 to 660 mm. All modifications use a unified receiver - for the longest barrel option. The advantage of this solution was the ease of production, and as a result, the lower price of the carbine. With a shorter barrel, the carbine will have more turning ability, which is a plus when hunting in dense forest.
The design of the carbine involves the installation of optics - for this, special grooves are provided on the top of the receiver for a standard CZ dovetail mount, and in addition to this, the Czechs began producing modifications with additional holes on the receiver for standard Picatinny rails. Swivels on the stock allow you to attach belts, including quick-release ones. A bipod can be attached to the front swivel to allow targeted shooting with a rest.
Advantages and features:
– Convenience and ease of operation, disassembly and cleaning; – Wide selection of calibers; – Fast and clear fixation of the optical sight; – Forged barrel; – Mauser ejector; – High shooting accuracy; – Adjustable descent; – Drummer cocking indicator; – Proven design, long service life;
The carbine can be supplied with open sights, but among the many modifications there are also versions intended for optics only. At the same time, the front sight and rear sight do not need to be dismantled for shooting with optics - they are located so that they do not interfere with aiming even when using lenses with a large diameter.

I don’t think there’s any point in starting a pointless argument again.

Good day! Interest in this topic arose for the reason that I bought a CZ-557LUX 308WIN and it’s still in my store! I can’t figure it out! I read foreign reviews, they are delighted with this screw and don’t even try to compare the CZ-550 and CZ-557; they view them as two different rifles for different tasks and knowing their smallness, they won’t take bullshit even for cheap! I’ll take the screw, I bought Nikon optics ProStaff 3-9×50 Matte BDC Weaver bar with rings after simple procedures such as cold zeroing and lapping of rings, etc. I’ll do some shooting and I also really want to share this, I hope the CZ-ik won’t let you down!
What other cartridges were shot and with what bullets? We just have one Old Believer on the robot who says that it’s better to have a self-sad, no matter how you look at it!

Which one is better, 550 or 557?
In general, I like both carbines, the price is about the same. I would like to hear the opinions of users specifically in the aspect of comparing them in practical use. The purpose is hunting, paper, for training only.
After holding CZ I bought the January 2012 issue of hunting magazine. There is an article by Yuri Maksimov about CZ small things. It says that you can cut yourself on the trigger guard, it requires a little sanding, and also that in the store, when the rifles were sorted out, the mounts for the rings on one were not aligned. Well, and some other “trifle” of the same kind, I don’t remember exactly, but overall it’s still a positive review of the rifle (although advertising is natural). On my own behalf, I would like to add that on ordinary Italian smoothbores out of 5, God willing, one will have coaxial chokes, the quality of fit of the Italians is excellent, the wood is super. but soldering and other little things in ordinary versions are often defective, so it’s surprising that they are consumer goods. So you need to choose both CZ and Sabatti very carefully.
In general, after re-reading this topic, I got the impression that all of its participants understand rifled weapons like I do (that is, not at all). They started dissuading me from Los Tula in the ormag, citing the fact that his shutter is morally outdated and that if you take the CZ, it has a good shutter (that I already know that it’s a copy of the Mauser), but who can say anything about the shutter on the Sabatti Rover? As I understand it, both are done by hot forging. So these 2 rifles need to be compared in bolt action! And even when I was choosing an Italian smoothbore, they explained to me that Fausti, for example, buy receivers from Sabatti, because Sabatti has its own casting, unlike many more popular Italian brands. Beretta also makes barrels in Turkey, like most American arms companies. So which is better is another question. But I’m completely sure that CZ is a mess, just like Rovers. What to look for when choosing between these two models.

Brief review of the CZ 557 308 win using the Lux model as an example
CZ557 Lux II 308Win
The walnut stock is made very modestly, but boasts a curled structure. To prevent aggressive environmental influences, the wood is smoothly sanded and impregnated with special oil.
The handguard and pistol neck are decorated with a neat grille. The fore-end is rough, tapering slightly towards the clearly defined nose. The stock is equipped with a boar's back comb and the ergonomic neck is noticeably inclined. At the end of the neck, copying the Old English style, there is a black gasket with a narrow rubber butt pad. The gun belt is mounted on non-removable swivels.

Fuse and trigger
The trigger rod is blocked - the two-position safety operates very quietly. Moving the corrugated slider forward facilitates the removal of the fuse - this will be indicated by the red marking that appears. It will disappear if the slider is moved back. Important! When the carbine is put on safety, this fuse will help discharge it. This function is not available to all models that have a two-position fuse. For such an operation, many install a three-position fuse. The release of the CZ557 Lux 308 win carbine has no warning; to adjust it, it is completely removed from the stock. No jamming or scraping of the mechanism is observed.

Owners' impressions
Any model of the CZ 557 308 win series is the ideal combination of reliability, quality and price.
Speaking of price. The cost of the CZ 557 308 win in the Synthetic version starts from 77,000 rubles, at prices for the 1st quarter of 2022. But LUX is unlikely to be found cheaper than 90,000 rubles.

Description
The sensational innovation from Ceska Zbrojovka is the CZ 557 Lux rifle, which is assembled in a traditional European style and meets the requirements of even the most demanding users. This is a standard, but high-quality weapon that has good strength, reliability and high shooting accuracy.
Design
The stock of the carbine is made of wood, and the surface has been impregnated with oil, which emphasizes the texture of the material and provides protection from aggressive weather conditions. A grille was laser-etched directly on the forend, as well as on the pistol neck. This creates a roughness that makes it reliable to grip the weapon with your hands.
Due to the special quality of the barrel, increased efficiency of every shot is guaranteed when firing. The barrel has a convenient length, which reduces the overall dimensions and weight of the structure, and also provides greater convenience during transportation and operation.
Sighting components include rear sights and a front sight, which are adjustable in height. The cylindrical front sight is protected from potential damage using a skeleton-type fuse.
The bolt action concept has been modified and is a recent development. The thick-walled steel receiver is equipped with a window for ejecting cartridges. The locking unit together with the fuse has a simple device. The locking mechanism is reliably protected from the destructive effects of abrasive particles, moisture and other substances.
The trigger pull is blocked by a silently operating two-position safety lock. To remove the carbine from the safety lock, move the slider, which is located near the receiver, forward. In the position when the fuse is removed, the red marking dot opens, after moving the slider, i.e. in the position when the fuse is installed, the red dot is closed.

#cz557varmint 308Win I received a chassis for a rifle from Valentin Vlasenko’s SAG company (they are on Instagram as @sureshotarmament and @sag_ru) Excellent chassis, fit like original, no problems. This is probably the first aluminum chassis for the CZ557 Varmint rifle. Finally the complex is assembled, unfortunately the only thing missing is a magazine, I ordered them, these are magazines from Magpul Industries PMAG 7.62 AICS, 7.62×51 mm The magazines will arrive, I’ll shoot them and report the results! Good afternoon. Trial-M has the right to exist. Cleans, but is considerably inferior to Bore Tech Eliminator. In addition to the slurry, you will need a paste. For example, Iosso Bore Cleaner. ChistoGan products and their recommendations should be treated with caution. I absolutely do not recommend their cleaning rod. It looks like ChistoGan uses cheap radial bearings, although cleaning rods are supposed to use angular contact bearings. It's better to overpay for Dewey and have fun. Overall I recommend it
This author also has a correct video about running in the barrel.

You can only control it by copper plating of the barrel. During cold running in with a borescope, you can find problem areas (in Russian semi-automatic machines this is almost always the bypass hole) or detect damage to the barrel chamfer or damage to the rifling lead and carry out restoration work in these places. An example of how we found damage during run-in and repaired it
Thank you I looked with interest. The chamfer was damaged as a result of careless handling, not a manufacturing defect, do I understand correctly?

I agree, only that these are NEW rifles based on Mauser and Remington bolt groups. And this does not stop them from being one or another weapon system. And there are generally accepted principles for naming these systems. >

“Which, with all due respect, does not live up to the originals and in principle should not. "
Complete nonsense. I will answer for the Mauser one. Mauser and what other Mauser. How can it fall short =))) And to be more precise, that’s what the Czechs say - improved. And they have every moral right. Why? Study the history of the production of the most authentic Mausers in the Czech Republic. Did the Turks have this in their history?!
How can one cite as an example such an incorrect comparison of a state with a history of weapons and a country that only “yesterday” learned to make its first rifle... Separate the flies from the cutlets without making everything absurd.

Half-gypsy, by the way, like cheap Sabatti, Franks and others like them will not change the situation.. If you want impeccable shutter operation, like clockwork, orsis is an option. But in appearance, because of the pregnant bed, it looks like a log. And the iron is good. Well, or a cool European brand - but they already told you about Sauer... Everyone screws up. World economic model.

Nothing is perfect. I want to say about my 557RR that I have no complaints about it. When I was looking at a universal carbine for hunting, I chose the 557RR out of all the options. And at first the choice was SOK-95, then I took the 557RR, then I thought about an alternative to it, the Turk, then I looked at the Orsis, and the Molotov bolt gun.
