Pneumatics are very popular, because among people of all ages there is a craving for shooting. The most interesting option is, of course, firearms, but firstly, in Russian legislation there is no concept of “recreational shooting”, and secondly, for obvious reasons, owners of military rifles and pistols are burdened with legal restrictions. So, you can only shoot in specially designated areas. Keep weapons at home strictly in a safe, and transport them unloaded, sometimes disassembled. While air guns provide great opportunities for leisure, a shooting range can be set up right in the courtyard of a private house, or even in an apartment. If, of course, the size of the housing allows it. And while observing safety precautions.
Review of the Baikal mr 651 ks air pistol
The MP 651ks pneumatic pistol is of the gas-cylinder type, with a revolving loading circuit, made of plastic.
Initially, it was produced under the name IZH 671 and was made of metal.
It is intended:
- for mastering initial shooting skills by children and adults;
- for targeted shooting at stationary and moving targets, both with steel balls and lead bullets;
- leisure shooting;
shooting is possible in the temperature range from +10 to 40 degrees. This limitation is associated with the use of energy from compressed Co2 gas. At lower temperatures, the pistol will freeze with a sharp drop in power, up to the inability to fire a shot. At higher temperatures, the gun mechanism can be damaged.
The following rules for safe use of the gun must be observed:
1. You should always choose your shooting location carefully.
2. do not shoot if there may be people on the shooting line or behind the target;
3. do not point the 651kc air pistol at living people or animals, regardless of whether it is loaded or not;
4. do not disassemble the pistol when the gas cartridge is loaded;
5. after the shooting stops, put the pistol on safety;
6. When shooting, use shooting glasses to protect your vision from damage that can be caused, for example, by steel bullets during ricochets.
Strange proposal
Based on the MP-651K pistol, the manufacturer tried to create a miniature carbine for sports and recreational shooting. For this purpose, the barrel and fore-end of the pneumatic weapon were lengthened, and the handle received a full-fledged butt as an addition. From a distance, the pistol resembles an American M-16 assault rifle without a magazine. In fact, the buyer was faced with a completely new weapon. Only the technical characteristics give away such an interesting symbiosis.
But as practice and sales show, the new product labeled MP-651K-09 does not attract the attention the manufacturer expected. Judging by the reviews of potential buyers, in the price category of 3-4 thousand rubles you can find more worthy weapons. And it’s not just about the price - the carbine is ugly, low-power and oversized (800 mm long).
Design
The body of the pistol is made of plastic; in fact, it is a revolver, made in the format of a pistol. Equipped with a good quality rifled barrel of 4.5 mm caliber. Designed for firing both lead bullets and steel balls. Why are there two drums included in the kit, one equipped with magnets to hold steel balls, the second with stepped chambers to accommodate lead bullets. Both drums hold 8 charges. Also, to store steel round bullets, a storage unit is used above the receiver, which can hold 23 rounds of ammunition.
It should be said that the use of balls reliably disables the barrel, since the rifling in the barrel is erased and accuracy drops sharply.
There are two types:
- designated KS - equipped with a gas cartridge of 8 grams;
- designated by the letter K (pneumatic pistol root) - equipped with a 12 gram gas cartridge.

Sights are made in the form of a front sight and rear sight, the rear sight is adjustable only horizontally.

Creating a model
The Baikal MP-651k pistol has become a popular modification of pneumatics in Russia. If you read the history of its creation, it is associated with another model – IZH-67, called “Cornet”. This gas-cylinder weapon was published back in 1997. After four years of successful presence on the Russian airgun market, the Kornet was modified, and the new versions were called Baikal.
But let's go back to the basics for now. At one time, the Izh-67 carried out a kind of revolution in the production of weapons. The pneumatic was equipped with a rifled barrel and was equipped with a removable butt. In a couple of basic manipulations, the pistol turned into a rifle. And although the weapon amazed with its shooting accuracy, it failed to go beyond the status of an entertainment device. And the relatively small capacity of the drum did not give the weapon additional capabilities. Only 8 lead bullets could be loaded per charge.
At present, the Izh-67 is no longer considered as a purchase. The model has been discontinued, so it is almost impossible to find it. It has become the object of a real hunt for collectors and is worth a lot of money on the secondary market.
But the Izh-67 was immediately replaced by the Izh-671, which differed from its predecessor in the ball storage device located in the upper part of the barrel. Due to design flaws, the Izh-671 did not last long on the market. First of all, the pistol was adapted only for shooting one type of ammunition. And the rifled barrel was not very suitable for shooting balls. As a result, the shock characteristics of the Cornet decreased significantly, and since 1998 it has completely ceased production.
Although the popularity of the Izh-671 is far from the same as that of its predecessor, the pistol is still considered a collector's item. The next step of the designers of the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant was the release of the MP-561KS (Baikal) model. Here they tried to implement all the wishes of the mass user, so the model can be considered successful. Due to the fact that Baikal took the basis from the Cornet, some owners continued to call the new model Cornet, but the name “Murzik” was also assigned to it.

- The advantages of this pistol are:
- high quality steel rifled barrel;
- comfortable handle;
well-executed USM;
The disadvantages are:
- the design of the hopper for balls is prone to failure due to debris and dirt getting into it;
- large excess gas consumption per shot, due to the presence of parasitic volumes and cracks.
- The entire pistol is made of plastic.
Opinions from grateful customers
The main advantage that all owners pay attention to in their reviews is the affordable cost of the MP-651K pistol on the domestic market. In fact, such a universal revolver simply has no competitors. The second positive aspect is simplicity. It is noticeable not only when getting acquainted with the design of pneumatic weapons, but also manifests itself during setup and during operation. Everything is simple, accessible and does not raise unnecessary questions.
Many users also include the ability to improve the pistol as an advantage. True, many potential buyers do not quite understand the logic of such measures, because it is almost impossible to increase the power of a shot with a gas cylinder system. But experts say that only appearance and amenities can be improved. Thus, users equip their pneumatics with collimators, silencers and sighting devices in the form of butts.

Made to last
Russian craftsmen know how to create reliable and trouble-free pneumatic weapons, this has already been proven by time. Suffice it to recall the immortal rifle MP-512 (“Murka”) or the pistol with a broken barrel MP-53 (“hedgehog”). Therefore, it is not surprising that the pneumatic revolver has a simple, reliable and very durable design.
Let the potential buyer not be confused by the dimensions of the weapon. A metal frame, an aluminum alloy frame and a plastic handle decor - all this weighs no more than 700 grams when fully assembled. This means that even a child can handle a pistol.
This is not to say that servicing weapons is easy. It is this representative of the plant that requires increased user attention. However, with the instructions supplied with the gun, this is quite possible to do. The main thing that the owner should remember is that the compressed gas cylinder must be empty before disassembling.
Operating principle
The MP651 allows you to fire round steel bullets with a caliber of no more than 4.44 mm, or lead bullets with a caliber of 4.5 mm. Considering that the shooting is carried out using the energy of compressed carbon dioxide placed in a can, and therefore the power of the pistol is low. It is recommended to use match bullets weighing 0.2 grams, or semi-ogive bullets weighing up to 0.5 grams.
To change ammunition, the drum must be replaced.
To do this, you need to move forward the lever, which is located to the left and right of the receiver. The bullets are inserted into the free chambers of the drum. To fire steel balls, the drum must be installed in place. And loading is carried out by filling the hopper, which is located in the receiver.
Before filling the hopper with round bullets, you should move the pusher flag forward to the front sight, after which you can immediately load the drum by rotating it around its axis.
In order to insert a gas cartridge, you need to open the clamping screw located at the bottom of the handle and remove the pads. Then install the can into the seat so that the head of the can rests tightly against the gas assembly of the gun.
In order to install the stock, there is a carbine version. It is necessary to unscrew the clamping screw, remove the handle pads, and install the butt in their place. Then secure the structure with a clamping screw.
The replaceable carbine forend is equipped with an imitation silencer and is installed by snapping onto the front of the trigger guard.
USM MP651 double action. That is, you can fire by self-cocking; it must be said that the descent in this situation is quite long and difficult. And also cocking the mechanism manually, using cocking the trigger. In this case, the accuracy of fire becomes much higher. The safety is a mechanical type, located directly on the trigger.
Factory modifications
By the way, the Cornet is available in a modification with a forend, false barrel and butt made of plastic. With this body kit, it looks like a futuristic rifle, but these body kits do not affect the performance characteristics in any way, only the price. I have never seen them on sale separately.

Disassembly
The explosion diagram of the MP 651 07 ks air pistol is shown in the figure below.
Disassembly must be done for regular maintenance of the gun, its lubrication, repair or tuning.
Disassembly is carried out using the included screwdriver in the following order:
- It is necessary to unscrew the clamping screw, remove the lining from the handle, and remove the can;
- Unscrew the screw located at the trigger guard with a screwdriver in order to remove the receiver along with the storage of steel round bullets;
- Unlock the ball accumulator from the receiver, remove the spring and pusher from it;
- Remove the barrel assembly, which includes the barrel itself, the drum axis spring and the axis itself, by removing the under-barrel wedge;
- Using a screwdriver, unscrew the screw located above the trigger guard and remove the trigger cover;
- Start disassembling the trigger. It is recommended to start disassembling the trigger with the sear.
- Unscrew the screw located on the pistol rear sight and remove the rear sight. After which you will have access to the gas assembly of the pistol.
- Disassembly is complete.
The procedure for preparing for operation of MP651:
- 1.Use a cleaning rod and a rag to remove the grease from the gun barrel. Disassemble the gun using a rag to remove excess grease from the gun components.
- 2. Check the operation of the trigger by cocking and firing a blank shot;
- 3.To charge the gun:
-unscrew the clamping screw, removing the handle lining to make room for the gas cartridge;-replace the gas canister;
- put the handle lining back, use a clamping screw to puncture the can;
-remove the drum by moving the lever forward and equip it with either balls or bullets, the shooter’s choice. For each ammunition, a corresponding drum is selected.
- -The gun is ready to fire.
Expert recommendations
A pneumatic revolver, like all similar weapons that use a gas cylinder system, has a number of problems that the future owner may encounter when purchasing. Therefore, experts in their reviews offer a whole algorithm that the buyer needs to use in the store:
- the body of the weapon must be inspected for chips and cracks caused by accidental falls on a hard surface (in the future, such a chip will simply destroy the solid mechanism);
- it is imperative to check the operation of the trigger (cock it and hit the palm of your hand with the handle of the pistol - the trigger should not break);
- the bypass valve is checked for gas leakage (a new cylinder is inserted, a series of 20-30 blank shots are fired to the side), the sound should be clear and without reducing the volume.
Tuning
The pistol is one of the most popular for domestic homemade guns, since its design allows for numerous changes.
For example, by replacing the original barrel with a barrel from MP512, which is cut to a length that suits the owner, an increase in both power and shot accuracy is achieved. Besides. The power is increased by modifying the gas unit, namely the outlet from the valve and bypass is increased to a diameter of 3.5 mm. Since initially the gun did not have a gas chamber, its replacement is being introduced. The adapter with the needle is unscrewed from the valve sleeve, after which an additional capacity for Co2 is installed between them, in the form of a thick-walled tube 4 mm long. equipped with appropriate threads. It is also necessary to replace the valve spring with a longer one. The lower part of the handle is also sharpened from the inside to increase the space for the spray can. As a result of this procedure, the amount of gas supplied to fire one shot increases. Which entails an increase in power.
Upgrade and tuning kits, as well as spare parts, are widely sold on the Internet, including converting the gun to compressed air. This allows it to be successfully fired even at sub-zero temperatures.

Negative reviews
Naturally, not all buyers liked the MP-651K revolver. Many users believe that such air guns simply have no future. The fact is that, apart from recreational shooting, the pistol is really not suitable for anything (for example, hunting). However, such statements from hunters who like to run through the forest with pneumatic weapons are completely incomprehensible, because the activity they carry out is illegal and carries criminal liability.
Potential buyers also have negativity about the cost of pistols. We are talking about factory-upgraded revolvers intended for sport shooting. Not every user is ready to pay the seller 10,000 rubles for a regular pneumatic gun that just shoots accurately at a distance of 20-25 meters.
Table of possible malfunctions of the MP-651KS pistol
The table shows the most common faults, their causes, and a brief description of troubleshooting methods.
Malfunction | Cause | Recommended solution |
1. Spontaneous decocking of the trigger | The sear does not hold the trigger securely enough | Grind off the sear at the point of contact with the body |
2. Hard trigger when firing by self-cocking | The trigger pusher is rubbed by the body | Round the side edge of the pusher |
3. Magazine jamming when pressing the trigger | The magazine pusher jumps off the magazine teeth The magazine is compressed by the walls of the housing | Bend the end of the pusher to the center of the magazine. Grind down the desired wall. |
4. The magazine returns back when the trigger is released. The shot is loud, but the bullets don’t fly out | Insufficient pressing of the magazine to the body | Increase engine rod overhang |
5. Low accuracy | Poor-quality barrel Long-term firing of steel balls has resulted in sagging in the breech of the barrel. The barrel gasket is torn. | Replace the barrel Eliminate sagging Replace the gasket |
6. Balls roll out through the barrel | The barrel gasket is torn | Replace gasket |
7. When the can is full, lead bullets fly weakly | The barrel gasket is torn | Replace the barrel gasket |
8. The sound of the shot is dull, the balls do not fly out of the barrel | A bad ball is stuck in the barrel | Remove the magazine, use a cleaning rod to knock out the stuck balls from the barrel and magazine |
9. Gas breakthrough through the barrel | The locking element is damaged | Replace the locking element |
10. Gas breakthrough between the needle adapter and the brass bushing | The sealing ring between the adapter and the bushing is damaged | Replace ring |
11. Gas breakthrough from a can | The sealing ring under the can is damaged | Replace ring |
12. Reduced volume and force of the shot when firing frequently, stopping after a while | Thick canister seal The needle does not reach the seal A piece of the seal plugs the needle hole due to the small sharpening angle | Replace the cartridge Replace the cartridge Sharpen the needle |
