The trigger mechanism without a trigger consists of a trigger and a sear connected by a system of spring-loaded rods. Changing the position of the sear releases the piston in the cylinder or opens the valve of the pneumatic chamber.

Most air rifles are single-shot, although multi-shot models have become more popular. Loading can be done into a longitudinal magazine with a spring feed (for balls) or a drum (for bullets of any shape).

Modern plastics are not inferior in quality to wooden parts and are significantly cheaper. In addition, plastic is not so sensitive to impacts and is not subject to rotting.
