) is one of the most famous and popular lever-cocked hunting rifles. It was developed by American designer John Browning in 1894, and was produced by Winchester Repeating Arms Company until 1980, and then by US Repeating Arms until they stopped producing these rifles in 2006. FN Herstal stated that they will release a limited number of new models of these weapons in 2010.[1]

Historical reference

The Winchester Model 1894 is one of the most famous lever-cock hunting rifles. Moreover, it is the longest-lived. The rifle was developed by John Browning in 1894 and discontinued in 2006. Moreover, it was announced then that in 2010 a limited batch would be released for hobbyists and collectors. In total, the barrel sold seven million copies. The millionth Winchester was presented to US President John Calvin Coolidge in 1927, the one and a half millionth was given to US President Harry Truman in 1948, and the two millionth was given to President Dwight Eisenhauser in 1953. This is the American dream.

For its time it was an innovative gun, using smokeless powder cartridges. The name of the 30-30 Winchester cartridge has become synonymous with the barrel itself. In 1964, changes were made to the original design to make production more efficient and cheaper. However, this led to the fact that pre-64 models began to be in great demand. Interesting fact: IBM released the 3340 hard drive in 1973, which engineers called 30-30 (two modules of 30 MB each). Project leader Kenneth Haughton suggested calling this disk a “hard drive.” Since then they have been called that.

A little history

In general, a Winchester is not a type of weapon, but the name of the person who ensured their mass production. Winchester belongs to Carbines, which in turn belong to rifles.

Carbines are rifles with a cut-down barrel and butt for convenient use when riding. Such modifications significantly reduced the lethal range and speed of the bullet. And due to the need to reduce recoil when riding, the rifle could not use a large-caliber cartridge, which the PUBG developers did not forget to reflect and which became a surprisingly huge inconsistency, but more on that later.

The progenitor of the Winchester Carbine was the so-called Henry Gun, which was a real breakthrough in the field of technical development of the weapons industry. Henry's bracket made it possible to fire shots without reloading after each launch and so on until the magazine was completely empty, which in the original version held 15 rounds.

For large-scale production, Oliver Winchester bought the rights to the new carbine and, from 1866, began producing carbines under the same name. Subsequent modifications were minor. Only a new convenient side opening for charging, replacement of metal alloys with spare parts, and so on, which each time affected the number of cartridges in the magazine for the worse.

For many years, while carbines were coming off the assembly line into service, Henry worked on a new type of cartridge. All weapons of that era worked on black powder, which, when used, produced many combustion products. And a revolutionary breakthrough was the development of a cartridge using smokeless powder, which released only gaseous combustion products.

Today this cartridge is known to PUBG players as a 7.62 mm caliber cartridge and was then labeled 30-30 Winchester. This is a significant discrepancy between the real WIN 94 and its gaming prototype. The 1894 Winchester was the first rifle to use the 7.62 cartridge rather than the .45 ACP pistol cartridge. And even the name of the cartridge became a word synonymous with the name of the rifle itself. They were often called Winchester 30-30.

Winchesters were initially produced with the hope that they would arm the US Army, but they found their application and widest approval in the civilian sphere. The Battle of the Little Bighorn, in which American soldiers used the Winchester carbine, played a big role in this. The battle ended with the destruction of five companies of the American regiment and the death of their famous commander, George Custer. After this, commanders demanded more powerful types of firearms to arm soldiers.

It was WIN 94 that became the record holder for the number of rifles sold - about 7 million units. The popularity of the Winchester carbine is greatly inflated through films and books about the wild west. The same Colt revolvers made more noise then.

Today, hard drives are just as common in culture. He is present in all Westerns that take place during the era of his popularity. Also, Arnie in the movie "Terminator 2" uses a sawed-off Winchester shotgun model 1887.

As you can see, this rifle is quite a good damage dealer at medium distances, but it will never replace the Kar98, due to the lack of sights and body kits in principle. Shooting through the front sight is still a pleasure. You can only rely on your own skill and developed intuition. Armor penetration

45 ACP caliber bullets have good penetration into Kevlar coatings, so we can recommend this rifle for forcibly “undressing” packed opponents. The first level armor receives 46.2 damage, the second level armor receives 39.6 damage, and the third level armor receives 29.7 damage. According to my feelings, a gun kills an opponent when it hits a motorcycle helmet, but it simply knocks off a military helmet and leaves about 5-10 hit points. The body, protected by the third armor, will have to put three rounds of ammunition.

Body kits

We have only one attachment - a bandoleer, which is attached to the butt and allows you to increase reloading by 30%. It was experimentally found that the reload speed increases from 7.2 sec. up to 6.09 sec. Not particularly critical, but in some cases it saves lives.

Aim

We don’t have any optics - it’s the 19th century! Our aiming frame is sector-shaped, with a butterfly-shaped front sight. Not the most convenient device, by the way, sometimes blocking the entire view to the target. The developers decided to slightly alleviate the player’s suffering and when holding Shift, the picture zooms in much closer than with the other barrel. But this will not help you much, believe me.

Shooting

So how do you shoot this ancient artifact? First, check the FPS. If the value is below 60, then you don’t even have to pick up this gun. It is very sensitive to reaction time, especially at close range. But most often they hit them at point-blank range, so you will have to master the method of aiming offhand, in a split second - “quick scope”. Moreover, it is advisable to do this from behind cover - lean out, aim, shoot and immediately go back. And for everything about everything - a second. Otherwise, there is a chance of catching a response.

Shooting at a distance is carried out according to the following scheme: detect the enemy, determine the distance by eye (or as in the guide about distance shooting), set the zeroing value using the Pg up and Pg dn keys (up to 300 meters). This is the only way to fire without lifting the barrel and blocking your own view. You can, of course, shoot further than 300 meters, but only on intuition, which is not always possible.

Two simple tips: at long distances it is better to shoot from the first person, and at close distances - from the shoulder or hip, holding down RMB. It’s good that the recoil from the barrel is within the limits of decency, otherwise it would definitely not be possible to shoot in principle.

Advantages and disadvantages

The advantages of the 1887 hard drive include:

• eye-catching design;
• reliability of design;
• comfortable ergonomic shape;
• convenience of quick shooting;
• ease of use;
• common caliber.

• inability to re-equip the magazine during use;
• rarity of spare parts;
• high cost;
• Winchester 1887 models used black powder cartridges, which is not always convenient.

Tactics

First, it’s worth determining in what situations this barrel should be used. The best technique is firing from 100 meters at an enemy who cannot see you. It is advisable that he does not move at the same time, since not everyone knows how to take the lead. A couple of shots and your comrade can be carried forward feet first, he won’t even understand where he was killed from. But for this you need to be super accurate.

If you are discovered, then it is pointless to shoot head-on with assault rifles and carbines. It all depends on the skill of the enemy. If he starts spraying you with automatic fire at a distance, then you can risk giving him a shot. When the bullets land singly and very accurately, it is better to go into the shadows. And vice versa - at close ranges, avoid collisions with SMGs and machine guns, but pistols and sniper rifles are welcome. With shotguns it is a little more difficult, since the wide spread of the shot compensates for their inaccuracy and curvature.

There is no point in making the Winchester the main weapon; it is better to keep it in the second slot for unique situations. The gun is very unpretentious and does not require a frantic search for attachments and ammunition. There are countless 45-caliber cartridges scattered across the map, and the rate of fire does not imply their rapid consumption. The more often you use it, the more you will love it for its guaranteed one-time damage. Or you will also quickly hate it if your hands are hooks.

Bottom line

Win 94 is the last weapon I would recommend to a beginner. It has many disadvantages and few advantages. If you didn’t have a Kulbertinov in your family, which killed squirrels in the eye, you might want to think about a more preferable barrel. For lovers of hardcore, dominance and BDSM - recommended. In update number 5.1, the developers significantly increased the popularity of Win94 among players by attaching a sight to the weapon. On this occasion, streamer and content maker WackyJacky101 released a new video in which he listed several useful facts about Winchester.

• The Win94 scope's magnification is 2.7. The sight changes the colors slightly, making them warmer.
• The initial velocity of the Win94 bullet and its flight trajectory are identical to those of the Kar98k (the ballistics of the two types of rifles are completely the same).
• To adjust the sensitivity of the mouse when aiming with Win94, you need to change the sensitivity slider at the sight in the game settings with a 2x factor.
• Win94 kills an enemy with a level 1 helmet with one shot to the head and deals a maximum of 99 damage to an enemy with a level 2 helmet.
• Bullet Loops increase reload speed by 30%.
• The Win94's sight swings exactly the same as the Kar98k's (without the Cheek Pad).
• Win94 is the only weapon in the game that can have a gold sight (if you have a gold skin).

Specifications

In terms of technical characteristics, the Winchester 1887 is in many ways similar to other smoothbore shotguns. The model fires 12 gauge cartridges. The magazine capacity is designed for 5 rounds.

Used cartridges are extracted using powder gases through a special window in the receiver.

The length of the standard weapon was 997 mm. This is with a 508 mm barrel installed. However, there were varieties with specially elongated trunks of 813 mm. The weight of the gun was 3.6 kg, which was considered an average value for this segment.
