MP-79-9TM 9 mm P.A and MP-80-13T .45 Rubber: common features and differences.

Self-defense weapon: MP-80-13T pistol

The MP-80-13T pistol has a certificate of conformity for firearms of limited destruction

The Makarov MP-80-13T traumatic pistol is produced by the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant and is a modified MP-79-9TM, firing cartridges of a larger caliber - .45 Rubber. The MP-80-13T pistol has a new cast bolt-casing, which is almost identical in thickness to the bolt-casing. In order for a larger caliber to fit into the old pistol frame, the designers went to a significant reduction in the thickness of the frame walls, as well as the barrel rack, while they had to completely change the trigger pull and the bolt stop. The barrel of the MP-80-13T pistol currently has welded protrusions, although the plant promises to begin producing those pressed from the barrel walls.

A significant drawback of the MP-80-13T rubber gun, popularly called the “45-caliber Makarov,” is the insufficiently high quality of the steel used in its manufacture. At the same time, the barrel, due to its larger outer diameter than that of the Makarych pistol, cannot be strengthened with a reinforcing sleeve. The muzzle energy when firing Techkrim cartridges from the Makarov MP-80-13T traumatic pistol is 90 J. Besides all the other shortcomings, I personally really didn’t like the lack of a “beard” in the front part of the bolt housing and the straight front wall of the trigger guard. It would be much better to make this model externally identical to the Makarov combat pistol.

The automatic operation of the MP-80-13T pistol works according to the scheme of using recoil with a free bolt. The bolt-casing is held in the extreme forward position by a return spring located around the barrel. The barrel is rigidly fixed to the pistol frame and has protrusions in its channel to prevent firing of hard bullets. The MP-80-13T trigger mechanism is double-action, hammer-type, with a safety cocking mechanism. Safety in handling the weapon is ensured by a manually controlled safety lever, the lever of which is located on the left side of the rear part of the bolt casing. Sights MP-80-13T consist of a front sight and rear sight, fixed in dovetail grooves, with the possibility of making lateral corrections by moving them. The single-stack box magazine holds only 6 rounds. The magazine latch is located at the bottom of the handle. Currently, the MP-80-13T pistol is classified as a firearm with limited destruction.

Pistol MP-79-9TM "Makarych" - video

Despite all the complaints from the owners of these pistols, “Makarych”, and this is the name of this traumatic version of the PM, has become one of the most common “traumatic” weapons in the Russian Federation. There are now a lot of options for the Makarov traumatic pistol, but three models that are more identical in appearance to their combat relatives are more enthusiastic: Izh-79-9T, MP-79-9TM, MP-80-13T.

It should be immediately noted that, in principle, these three pistols are an alternate line of development of the traumatic pistol “Makarych” and, in general, the properties of each subsequent one are better than the previous one. However, each of them has its own aspects that can be critical when choosing, in addition, these are the only models that are very close to the Makarov pistol, which is why they were chosen for comparative analysis.

Traumatic pistol Izh-79-9T

For most buyers of this pistol, its external resemblance to the PM plays an important role, but it is worth immediately noting that even among these models there is no option quite similar to the Makarov pistol. The differences are visible not only in the modified proportions of the pistol itself and the inscriptions on the side, but also in the absence of a “beard” under the barrel, which is immediately visible. We cannot ignore the fact that the latest model MP-80-13T, due to the fact that it uses a more powerful cartridge with a larger caliber bullet, has a handle that is completely better than the previous versions of the Makarych and, of course, the PM. In principle, for a person who has seen a combat Makarov only a couple of times in his life, it will be virtually impossible to find differences, especially in low light conditions, because, most importantly, buyers of this pistol count more on the effect of intimidating the villain than on the actual use of the weapon for its intended purpose . How effective the “Makarych” is as a traumatic pistol can be judged from the table above. Only the MP-80-13T has acceptable characteristics, while the Izh-79-9T is really intended more for intimidation with its external resemblance to a combat pistol, but if the enemy is simply dressed, then it can be at short distances of 1-2 meters There will be a certain effect when hit.

Traumatic pistol MP-80-13T

Do not write off the ten-shot variants created for export. Despite the fact that they are one hundred percent similar to eight-shot ones in their characteristics, they are completely different in their appearance, although due to the fact that they were created for sale abroad, their quality is an order of magnitude better than that of those offered to us. The first thing worth talking about when talking about Makarych pistols is ammunition. It is impossible to count the number of pistols that were “killed” by their owners due to the use of harder bullets in cartridges. For the Makarych Izh-79 and MP-79, a hard bullet is the certain “death” of the barrel. The fact is that the barrels of a traumatic weapon, to prevent the ability to fire hard bullets, have indentations through which a soft rubber bullet passes freely, losing only part of its own energy. Bullets made of harder rubber can tear in the barrel, which can lead to it getting stuck; as a result, the next shot can have very disastrous consequences right up to the shooter’s injury. In fact, this is the main difference between the Izh-79 and the MP-79. The Izh-79 has two indentations at the very beginning of the barrel, which create a small gap for the bullet to pass through, the result of which is lower power of the pistol, as well as the fact that even with standard cartridges the barrel very quickly becomes unusable. There are three indentations in the MP-79, two as in the Izh-79, but the upper indentation is significantly smaller, and the next indentation located at the bottom of the barrel is a little further. Thus, the gap for the passage of a bullet increases, which has a positive effect on the power of the pistol; skeptics say that this results in a loss of sighting range, but let’s face it, what kind of sighting range can a gun equipped with a light nine-millimeter rubber bullet have?

The recommended cartridges for Izh-79 and MP-79 are KSPZ with an indispensable note that they are for Makarych and AKBS; unfortunately, the latter were not produced. If we talk about how fastidious the MP-80 is when it comes to cartridges, then here it is an order of magnitude ahead of its own relatives. Due to the larger caliber, the thickness of the barrel was increased, which made it possible to use bullets made of harder rubber. The operation of Makarych pistols is ordinary to the point of outrage compared to other traumatic pistols; only barrelless types of traumatic pistols are easier to maintain. Disassembly and reassembly is done in exactly the same sequence as for the combat analogue of all 3 models, and will not cause difficulties even for someone who has never encountered a small arms weapon at all. It is only worth noting that the MP-80 has a more robust design compared to its predecessors, which increases its reliability and wear resistance during use. Also, the MP-80 has slightly greater recoil when firing, but the differences, surprisingly, are not very noticeable unless you shoot with one and immediately take another. The weight of the pistol is a little confusing, because it is made of steel; given its small dimensions, it seems much heavier than a foreign traumatic weapon. There is no need to talk about how comfortable the pistol is in the hand, taking into account that the progenitor of the Makarych was developed more than fifty years ago, you can find more comfortable options. The last shortcoming is one hundred percent compensated for by a wide variety of holster variations, which suit every taste and color.

Comparison of MP-80-13T and 6p42-9 pistols

Separately, it is necessary to note the ability of the Makarych to fire gas cartridges, but, unlike other traumatic weapons with a similar capability, the Makarych differs in that it will have to be reloaded manually after each shot, because there is simply not enough power for automatic reloading. The MP-80 is especially interesting in this matter, because in it reloading is done “at the discretion of the pistol itself,” in other words, it may or may not reload. Agree that it is better to know for sure that the pistol is not reloaded than to guess how it actually is. Thus, the MP-80, if you do not take into account the issue with gas cartridges, leaves far behind both the Izh-79 and MP-79 both in terms of its own reliability and power. It is also necessary to say that if you come across an Izh-79 for sale at a very low cost, then you should not immediately rush to make a purchase, because after 2006 the quality of this model has dropped significantly. This is evidenced by the fact that they are still on sale to this day, despite the fact that they have not been made for a long time.

pros

Since the Makarov pistol is quite well known throughout the post-Soviet space, its traumatic variants are popular and in high demand among owners of civilian self-defense weapons, gun lovers and other categories of people. The advantages of Makarov traumatic pistols include:

— external resemblance to the PM combat pistol; — structural similarity with the PM pistol (which simplifies the handling of the pistol for persons who have experience in handling the PM pistol); — availability and relatively low cost of spare parts and accessories; — relatively low cost (except for the MP-80-13T model). — Reliability of all components and devices, except for the barrel designs of various versions.

According to police colonel I. Shutov, “Makarych” can be “quite simply and quickly converted into a combat pistol.”

Disadvantages

- Controversial ergonomics inherited from PM - a development 60 years ago. — The latch magazine fixation system imposes significant restrictions on the speed and convenience of reloading (except for the IZH79-9TM-10 and MP-79-9TM-10 models, which use a push-button fixation system) — Low and inconsistent quality of production of the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant. — Huge and abundant obstacles in the barrel bore, compared to other models of traumatic weapons. — Small magazine capacity (model MP-80-13T) — Low reliability of the barrel design of various versions

What ammo should I use?

9mm RA ammunition is used for firing. Initially, it was designed for 5.45x18 charges, but due to the design features of the combat base, it was possible to use larger caliber cartridges without any design changes.

The choice of ammunition is very important. Stability of operation and service life depend on this. It is recommended to use cartridges with slow-burning powder. You can use powerful charges for self-defense, but medium and low power cartridges are suitable for training.

Regular use of Lethal+ ammunition can damage a traumatic pistol. Some users said that the use of powerful cartridges does not in any way affect the quality of work and service life of the MP-78-9TM.

Powerful charges are equipped with a hard bullet, which, if used regularly, can cause damage to the barrel or completely destroy it. Ammunition with kinetic energy up to 50 J is suitable for practicing handling skills. It is not worth using weaker cartridges; difficulties may arise during the reloading process.

The return spring may weaken over time, and then the stability of the traumatizer may be impaired. This problem is solved by replacing it with a more rigid one. A prerequisite is that it meets the required dimensions.

History of the Makarych pistol

The Izh-79-9T traumatic weapon was created from scratch, on the basis of the PM, and the pistol was manufactured at Izhmekh until 2007.

The model is equipped with a barrel with welded inserts and can withstand maximum pressure at any cartridge power. The fuse is reliable. But the Makarych IZH-79-9T traumatic vehicle has significant drawbacks and poor quality assembly. The barrel can simply swell during shooting, often even the installed “teeth” are pulled out. As a result, the next cartridge will get stuck in the barrel, that is, this ends the shooting.

However, with this drawback, this traumatic pistol is convenient and small in size. But, in general, most of the parts in it can be changed, after which you can get a fairly reliable traumatizer.

Design changes

After 2006, this traumatic weapon received a quick-release bushing and an updated return spring, which has greater rigidity, and the product was labeled “Izh-79-9TM”. But, by and large, such a bushing could be purchased for previously manufactured pistols.

Why is it required? The main task of this bushing is to avoid the barrel from breaking through when using ammunition with a power greater than 45 Joules, as well as to reduce the backlash of the bolt frame when firing and this will increase the accuracy of the shot.

Also disadvantages include the safety flag and the shutter delay shelf, which are located on the left, since this is inconvenient for left-handed people.

Model 79

This version needs to be considered in more detail than all of the above, since the 79th IZH is the most common model of gas weapons in the country. The famous PM (Makarov, in service with the armed forces and law enforcement agencies) was chosen as the prototype for the 79 series. IZHMASH engineers retained almost the entire design and operating principle of military weapons. In essence, the gas model is the same PM combat pistol, with one exception - the inability to fire live ammunition. Available in four modifications: IZH-79-8, IZH-79-9, IZH-79-9T (Makarych), IZH-79-9T 10M.

As you noticed, the 79-9T model has its own name “Makarych”, thanks to this, all injuries and gas injuries based on PM began to be called that.

The weapon is self-cocking, the clips hold 8 rounds, like the original, with the exception of the latest modification - its magazine holds 10 rounds.

All working main parts are made of weapon steel, which makes Makarych one of the most reliable gas pistols in the world.

Has the following performance characteristics:

  • Caliber – 7.6, 8 mm. Supplied for export in 8x20 mm.
  • Effective firing range: gas - up to 3 meters, rubber bullet - up to 7.
  • The clip contains 8/10 rounds.
  • Dimensions: length – 161, width – 30.5, height – 127 mm, respectively.
  • Weight with a full charge – 730 g.

Safety

The plant engineers made sure that it was impossible to fire live ammunition from the Makarych. For this purpose, there is a pressed-in bushing in the barrel; it makes it impossible to convert a standard barrel for a combat charge. Also, the breech on the outside has small cuts, and the attachment of the barrel to the frame, compared to the original, is weakened. All this together, when trying to fire a live charge, tears the pistol into pieces. In this case, the shooter may receive serious injuries to the hand.

In addition, such “modernizations” of a gas pistol are illegal and are punishable by law.

Disassembly

Partial and complete disassembly is possible. The first is used for routine maintenance of the weapon, for example, for cleaning after shooting. Complete disassembly is recommended for repairs or when the gun has been in a damp environment for a long time - in water, rain or snow.

Carrying out partial disassembly:

  • We take out the clip. We inspect the chamber for the presence of ammunition - lower the flag, move the bolt back and set it to delay.
  • Separate the shutter from the frame. This is done like this: pull back the trigger guard and move it to the right. Then you need to rest it against the frame and fix it in this position. Afterwards, the bolt must be moved to the rearmost position and lifted by the rear end. We pull until we feel that the spring begins to pull it forward. The shutter is separated.
  • Remove the return spring from the barrel.

Partial disassembly completed. We carry out assembly in reverse order.

First of all, we carry out incomplete disassembly. After which, for complete disassembly, the algorithm of our actions should be as follows:

  • We unscrew the screw from the handle to remove the latter from the frame.
  • This opens the valve and return mechanism. Move the valve down and remove the spring.
  • Using an awl, we pry the edge of the spring from the bolt stop, after which you need to turn the sear in the trunnions until it separates and remove it together with the delay.
  • We tilt the trigger forward and remove it.
  • The last thing to remove is the trigger rod, hook and cocking lever.

We assemble starting from the last point in reverse order.

Subtleties

Experts prohibit the use of gas weapons for shooting in self-defense if the attacker is less than a meter away. There is a risk that you yourself will get caught in the gas cloud. If shooting is carried out with traumatic ammunition, then there is a risk of causing serious injury to the attacker, which the law qualifies as an excess of self-defense. In this case, you will be included in the article.

It is not recommended to shoot cartridges that have mechanical or corrosion defects on the body, or are expired.
