The concepts of “Type” and “Kind” of troops and what is their difference

For many uninitiated, such concepts as “type” and “branch” of troops are the same, but this is wrong - these are different levels of the hierarchy of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

The concept of “type of troops” characterizes certain formations in the Armed Forces of a state. Moreover, each existing type of troops performs its tasks only in its assigned environment - land, air (space) or water.

Such a concept as a “arms branch” characterizes an integral part of a branch of the Armed Forces and includes units, formations, associations that have weapons and military equipment unique to them, use their own tactics, have combat properties characteristic of them and are intended to perform tactical and operational-tactical tasks. That is, the “genus” determines the narrow specialization of certain types of troops.

REFERENCE . Previously, instead of the concept of “arms of arms,” the name “arms of arms” was used, and there were only three of them - infantry, cavalry and artillery.

Also in the Russian army there are separate independent branches of the military, which are not structurally part of any branch of the Armed Forces, but report directly to the General Staff or the Supreme Commander-in-Chief - the President of the Russian Federation.

In addition to the branches, each type of military has special troops and services:

  • directorates that determine the activities of commanders and staffs to maintain constant combat readiness of troops, prepare and conduct combat operations;
  • combat support - reconnaissance, engineering support, chemical warfare equipment, electronic warfare, etc.;
  • rear services , whose main task is to supply the army with everything necessary - food, fuel, components; technical and transport support, repairs, medical support, etc.

Youth in boots: What Russian stars looked like in the army

On November 15, Russia celebrates Conscript Day. The holiday was established in 1992 by decree of Boris Yeltsin - they hoped to increase the national significance and prestige of military service. Today, conscription is viewed differently, but many, including celebrities, consider military service to be mandatory for every man. 5-tv.ru collected photos of celebrities who served in the army and are proud of it.

Film director Nikita Mikhalkov went to military service at the age of 27, after the premiere of the film “I Walk Around Moscow.” He served in the navy in Kamchatka. Once Mikhalkov miraculously escaped death: he could not catch up with his colleagues during a long expedition in the tundra and almost froze to death. Despite the dangerous situation, the director believes that every man should serve, because this is how you can see the country. During his service, Nikita Sergeevich kept a diary - the notes and experience gained were useful to him while working on the painting “A Friend Among Strangers, a Stranger Among Our Own.”

Ilya Lagutenko, front, served in the Pacific Fleet. He was a foreman of the second article. During his service, Ilya also risked his life: once he almost fell through the ice. But Lagutenko remembers his time in the army with pleasant feelings and often shares his impressions in interviews.

“I'm in love these two years. Although probably not more in what is called the army, but in those situations, the school of life, if you want, that I had the opportunity to experience,” says the musician.

Leonid Agutin

Leonid Agutin served on the border of Russia and Finland in the border troops. The musician not only often remembers the service, but also wrote the song “Border,” which became a hit! Just like in the song, Leonid Agutin had an interesting service in life. At first he was assigned to a musical ensemble. Agutin did not last long there: he was expelled for repeated violations of discipline.

At the border, the future pop star made friends with the local shepherd Ada. Ada became Agutin’s partner and helped him apprehend the defector!

“If the required number of conscripts is not reached, this is already a disaster, because the army is an indicator of the strength and stability of the state,” Leonid believes.
