Simple and reliable air rifles Diana 31 Panther

Review of Diana 31 Panther air rifles

The Diana 31 Panther air rifles of three modifications officially supplied by this company to Russia are of the type of spring-piston air weapon. They are representatives of the classic type of cocking the mainspring and loading - by “breaking” the barrel.

Advantages and disadvantages

The clear advantage of the Diana 31 Panther rifles is the simplicity and reliability of the design. Previously, legendary German quality was added to them, but now part of the production has been transferred to Turkey. Rifles of this type also have a very soft trigger and you can adjust it to your liking. The rifle can be uncocked without firing a shot.

The main drawback of the “thirty-first” Diana is the plastic stock, although this is mostly an aesthetic complaint. The butt plate is removable; it itself has cavities where you can put weights for better balancing.

The remaining disadvantages are typical for all models of this type of loading: single shot; sight failure when loading; the need to apply a sufficiently large force to cock the mainspring and train the skill of “breaking” the barrel of a weapon.

Purpose

Diana 31 Panther air rifles have a caliber of 4.5 mm and a muzzle velocity of 305 m/sec. Having a small caliber and a power of up to 7.5 joules, they belong to the category of entertainment and sports equipment (in the Russian Federation, pneumatics with such characteristics are not classified as weapons, the acquisition of which requires a license). Previously, the manufacturer included a more powerful mainspring in the delivery package. Now he abandoned this and began to use a longer cylinder piston rod as a power limiter, which reduces the working volume of compressed air. Diana does not drill the piston, as other manufacturers often do.

Air rifle Diana 31 panther (Diana RWS, Germany).

The German air rifle Diana 31 on Russian shelves is presented in the following options:

— Diana 31 Panther, classic model;

— Diana 31 Compact, in this modification the rifle barrel is shortened by 100 mm;

— Diana 31 Compact Professional is equipped with an optical sight, as well as a moderator.

In today's review we will talk about the classic and most popular modification of the Diana 31 Panther .

Products that are manufactured in Germany never raise doubts or questions about their quality and the Diana 31 rifle is no exception. The Germans indicate the origin of the rifle with a mark on the cylinder “Made in Germany”, and also indicate in what month and, accordingly, what year of production.

the Diana 34 air rifle , with two main differences, they have different stroke lengths, and the stock is made from different materials; in Diana 34 it is made of wood, and in Diana 31 it is made of plastic, while the prices for these rifles are different very significant.

The plastic stock is one of the few shortcomings of this rifle, because plastic remains plastic no matter how heavy and high quality it is with its inherent rattling. If you don’t find fault, then you don’t have to pay much attention to the stock, because it is made of very high quality.

The butt is equipped with a rubber back, which makes reloading the rifle more comfortable. The back is removed and behind it you can find voids inside the butt; these voids can be filled with weights to make the butt heavier. It is better to perform such manipulations only for balancing the rifle, after installing the optical sight on the Diana 31, because after installing the optics, the balance will be upset. Due to the fact that the butt is made symmetrically, it is equally convenient for both right-handers and left-handers.

The barrel in the Diana 31 panther is of very high quality; due to the fact that its diameter is 16 mm, it feels very massive. The barrel has eight high-quality rifling, which in turn leave identical marks on the bullet. The muzzle chamfer is made perfectly, so any intervention in its design is not required.

The trigger on the Diana 31 is adjusted using a screw located behind the trigger. Initially, the trigger has a short stroke, and it is also quite soft, so only special “gourmets” will want to change the original settings. The trigger itself is made of high quality plastic.

Diana is equipped with an automatic fuse. This safety allows you to remove the cocking mechanism without firing a blank shot. To do this, you need to break the barrel and pull it a little further until it stops, in this position, remove the rifle from the safety and smoothly press the trigger, now all that remains is to return the barrel to its original position position.

In order to break the barrel of the Diana 31 and load the rifle, you need to make an effort, which causes soreness at first and even after, you will notice a significant difference between the Diana 31 Panther and other air rifles. In stores you will find Diana 31 Panther with a special symbol “F” , which means that the tire contains a weakened spring. If you want to strengthen your rifle, you can immediately buy a non-weakened spring from a Diana 48 or 54 rifle, the installation of which will increase power and speed somewhere up to 280 m/s, but remember that strengthening is illegal in the Russian Federation. One of the possible modifications of Diana 31 is replacing the plastic guide with a metal one, which can be ordered/purchased from craftsmen.

If you become the proud owner of a Diana 31 air rifle, do not be lazy, go over it and re-lubricate it. In Germany, during production they use something incomprehensible as a lubricant, which causes significant diesel build-up and sometimes the emission of smoke when firing, which in turn leads to breakage of rifle parts.

To summarize, we can say that the Diana 31 Panther is a true German rifle, which has the quality inherent in the Germans, as well as a low cost.
Features a modern design, but based on traditional and proven designs. Diana 31 will be an excellent companion for those shooters who are not yet ready to spend money on something more serious. May 15, 2013

The lineup

The model range of these air rifles officially supplied to Russia is limited to three representatives:

  • Diana 31 Panther T06;
  • Compact;
  • Professional.

There is also a Panther Camo model, distinguished by its original stock coloring. Its technical characteristics are similar to T06.

Diana 31 Panther T06

Basic model with a barrel length of 495 mm with a total length of 1160 mm. Caliber 4.5 mm.

The Diana Panther 31 t 06 rifle has an automatic safety (after loading is completed and the barrel returns from the “broken” position to normal) and a conventional sighting pair of rear sight and front sight.

The front sight is not a simple pin-type piece of iron, but an innovative model with fiber-optic threads. A dovetail-type bar is attached to the breech for mounting a diopter (optical) or collimator sight.

Weight 3.4 kg.

Compact

A shortened model of Diana Panther 31 Compact t06, the barrel length of which is 395 mm and the total length is 1060 mm. The caliber is the same - 4.5 mm.

Otherwise, the technical design of this shortened rifle is the same: a spring-piston mechanism with cocking by a “fracture”, an automatic safety and a set of sighting devices consisting of a pair of front and rear sights and dovetail rails.

Weight 3.3 kg.

Professional

The professionalism of this spring-piston rifle Diana 31 with a breakable barrel was added by the so-called moderator - a silencer. Due to this, the rifle began to weigh 300 grams more. The length of the barrels and overall overall dimensions are the same as those of the T06. It is equal to 495 and 1160 mm, respectively.

The Professional model does not have a sighting pair of rear sight and front sight; there is only a dovetail rail for attaching optical sights (including red dot sights).

Weight 3.7 kg.

Description of the air rifle Diana Panther 31 Pro (4.5 mm)

The premium spring-piston break-type rifle model of the German brand Diana is an excellent choice for many buyers.
The modern design of the pneumatic air bag Diana Panther 31 Pro is distinguished by its special brutality, which can be traced in every line. The butt and stock of the pneumatic Diana Panther 31 Pro are made of very high quality polymer, which is resistant to weather conditions. On the back side of the butt there is a rubber butt pad that minimizes recoil during a shot. The upper part of the butt is decorated with an ergonomic cheek pad.

Thanks to the pistol grip, the shooter will be able to make a confident shot even in the most difficult situations.

Despite the fact that all production is located in Germany, the price of the Diana Panther 31 Pro air rifle will please the eyes of all shooting enthusiasts.

All main mechanisms and the barrel of the Diana Panther 31 Pro pneumatic gun are made from high-quality alloy metal, coated with a special solution. This treatment prevents the appearance of rust throughout the entire service life.

Shooting is carried out with lead bullets with a diameter of 4.5 mm , pre-loaded into the barrel by breaking it. The initial velocity of the projectile is 175 m/s and will be sufficient for recreational shooting.

However, in the future you can increase the speed to 305 m/s by replacing the coil spring with a reinforced gas spring. The range will increase from 30 to 100 meters.

As power levels increase, the user wants to be sure of his safety. To do this, the manufacturer installed an automatic safety on the Diana Panther 31 Pro air rifle. It guarantees one hundred percent protection against an accidental shot.

And although the model is equipped with a fuse, you can buy the Diana Panther 31 Pro air vent with delivery to any region of the Russian Federation.

The open-type sighting device has an adjustable sighting bar and front sight. Additionally, they are decorated with fiberglass threads for accurate shooting even in the dark. However, using an 11 mm Dovetail , you can equip the Diana Panther 31 Pro pneumatic with additional sighting equipment.

In conclusion, I would like to say a few words about the size of the model. The length is only 1160 mm and the weight is 3.7 kg.

Attention! This model has a weakened spring installed, which produces energy that is permitted for free purchase by citizens of the Russian Federation. The use of a reinforced spring allows you to achieve higher energy when shooting. At the same time, when replacing the standard spring with a reinforced one, you should take into account the content of the Federal Law “On Weapons” No. 150 - FZ. If necessary, and guided by this law, you may need to obtain permission from the LLR of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

Device

Diana 31 Panther air rifles belong to the class of weapons with a spring-piston mechanism and cocking of the mainspring by “breaking” the barrel. This is a single-shot 4.5mm bullet weapon.

The trigger mechanism is self-cocking, brought into firing position after the barrel returns to its original position. The safety is automatic, blocking the trigger immediately after loading. It must be “removed” before each shot. It also allows you to decock the weapon without firing a shot.

The outer diameter of the Diana 31 rifle barrels is 16 mm. At 4.5 caliber they look very massive. The barrels have 8 screw rifling and a well-made muzzle chamfer that does not require modification by home craftsmen.

The stock is semi-pistol, made of matte black plastic.

Sights on the T06 and Compact models consist of a rear sight and a front sight with colored fiber-optic threads. There is a dovetail-type rail with a width of 11 mm for installing optical sights (diopter and collimator).

On the Professional model there is no front and rear sight, there is only an 11 mm wide dovetail rail for optical sights.

Operating principle

Rifles of this brand are spring-piston rifles, which are fired by compressing air in a cylinder with a piston driven by a combat spiral spring.

The mechanism is cocked when the rifle barrel is broken, the lower part of the breech of which is connected through a hinge to the piston guide, which pulls it back and compresses the mainspring. After arming, an automatic safety operates, blocking the trigger.

Before firing, the rifle is removed from the safety by the shooter. After pressing the trigger, the piston guide is released, the mainspring straightens and pushes the piston forward, compressing the air in the cylinder. When a certain pressure is reached, the sealing band on the bullet cuts into the rifling of the barrel, and the bullet begins to move along its channel. A shot occurs.

Disassembly

It is recommended to disassemble the new Diana 31 Panther rifle, remove all factory grease and replace it with your own. If this is not done, then a “dieseling” effect may occur, accompanied by overheating and breakdown of the rifle mechanism. Visually it looks like smoke from a barrel.

The ability to completely disassemble the Diana 31 Panther rifle will save you from the need to go to repair shops for insignificant reasons and will allow you to carry out an independent upgrade. It requires a minimum of tools - just a Phillips screwdriver and a drift with a diameter of 1 mm.

Disassembly is carried out in the following order:

  • Using a Phillips screwdriver, unscrew two screws on the right side of the stock (the locking washers must not be lost) and one of the rear cylinder mounting.
  • Separate the mechanism from the stock.
  • Remove the plug from the cylinder and remove (without effort) the fuse box.
  • With the back of the cylinder resting on a flat surface, press on it and first press out one pin securing the trigger mechanism (initially, do not remove it completely), and then, pressing again, the second one. Remove both pins.

  • Remove the trigger, spring and guide.

If you need to remove the piston from the cylinder, then perform a few additional operations:

  • Break the trunk.
  • Remove the screw holding the bushing connecting the barrel to the cylinder.
  • Without using extra effort, squeeze out the bushing.
  • Remove the barrel breech from the “horns” of the cylinder.
  • Remove the cocking lever.
  • After this, you can carefully remove the piston and check the condition of the cuffs.

CV joint-4 is excellent for lubricating the rifle mechanism.

Disassembling the rifle will allow you to get to two parts that need to be upgraded - the mainspring and the guide.

Upgrade

The piston guide on the Diana 31 Panther is plastic, but that doesn't mean it's flimsy. It can be made on a metal lathe yourself or from a local craftsman. This upgrade does not violate the law.

Replacing the mainspring is prohibited by law. If the desire to get a rifle of a higher energy class is too great, then use springs from the same manufacturer. To strengthen the “thirty first”, Diana 48 or 54 with a spring-piston mechanism are suitable.

Which scope to choose

The dovetail rib on the Diana 31 Panther rifles is 11mm wide. It seems that the optimal choice would be collimator sights with no magnification (zoom), since their effective range is limited to a hundred meters, and this does not exceed the firing range of pneumatic weapons.

Optical sights with high magnification can be installed on such rifles, but there is almost no point in this, except to “puff out your cheeks” and present yourself as a cool macho.

When choosing collimator sights, pay attention to the models produced by VOMZ. They have an all-metal body (aluminum) and can withstand recoil of 800 G. For pneumatics, this is more than enough.
