The Hatsan AT44-10 line of pre-pumped rifles belongs to the intermediate class of airguns and is intended for a wide range of users. Its representatives are much more efficient than conventional spring-piston systems, but they do not reach the models of well-known European manufacturers. The presence of two replaceable drums, which can be kept charged in special mounts in the lower part of the stock, allows you not to be distracted by frequent reloading and focus more on the shooting process.
Review of the Hatsan AT44-10 air rifle
The number of sustained shots from one tank fill ranges from 70 to 80 at factory settings (velocity range about 200-220 m/s). When upgrading a rifle and increasing the initial bullet speed, the actual number of shots is reduced to 20-30. The standard volume of the underbarrel tank, equipped with a pressure gauge, is 180 cm3.
All models provide protection against chambering of a second bullet while the first is in the barrel, and a trigger adjustable in three parameters. In the muzzle of the barrel there is a small choke - a muzzle constriction that compresses the bullet and gives it stability in flight by damping vibrations that arise during acceleration.
Modification of Hatsan AT44-10 Long
Air rifle Hatsan AT44-10 Long
This version of the rifle is declared as the most powerful of the entire 44 series, but when sold it has a standard muzzle energy (no more than 7.5 J). The maximum declared bullet speed is possible only after an upgrade, which may deprive the user of warranty service and cause problems with law enforcement agencies. The bullet ejection speed is approximately 30 m/s higher due to the increased barrel length.
An additional advantage of the model is the increased tank capacity (up to 230 cm3), which increases the effective number of shots by about a third.
The convenient location of the front sight, made in the form of a short stretched thread (fiber), increases contrast compared to classic matte sights. The rifle is bulkier than other models in this series, but more compact than the spring-piston versions.
Hatsan AT44 10 Tact (Tactical)
Air rifle Hatsan AT44-10 Tact
The pre-inflated tactical version of the Hatsan has reduced dimensions due to the detachable telescopic stock. The rifle is easy to transport and does not require large cases for transportation. For the convenience of the shooter, there are 5 stages of butt adjustment, allowing you to adjust the size of the pneumatic to any arm length.
Despite maintaining the basic characteristics, the AT44 10 Tact model is intended more for recreational shooting. It is difficult to explain otherwise the three Picatinny rails located on different sides of the weapon (including the lower plane for the flashlight or laser designator). The rifle looks impressive and can make a big impression on the inexperienced amateur.
Hatsan AT44-10 PA (Pump Action)
Air rifle Hatsan AT44-10 PA
An unusual type of rifle with a pump-action reloading system. This design is often used in smoothbore firearms. The supply of a new cartridge is carried out by the reciprocating movement of a lever located under the barrel and combined with the forend.
One of the reasons for such an unusual system for pneumatics is due to the desire to satisfy the desire of fans to have a weapon that is close in appearance to a combat weapon. The practical expediency of pump-action reloading lies in the desire to avoid mechanism failures caused by the structure being too tight. User reviews about this model are mostly positive, since the smooth operation of the cocking lever does not disrupt the aiming line.
Hatsan AT44-10 Camo (Camouflage)
Air rifle Hatsan AT44-10 Camo
This is a less common pre-pumped version of the Hatsan rifle, which is now quite difficult to find for sale. The only fundamental difference between the model is its surfaces, painted in protective colors. This coloring is widely used in the practice of the armed forces, but is hardly appropriate for pneumatic weapons.
Modifications
More than 10 years have passed since the release of Hatsan AT44-10. During this time, the weapon received several modifications with a narrow focus. Here are 4 famous examples:
- Hatsan AT44-10 Long. Version with a reinforced air tank, which has a power of 60 J and a capacity of 230 atm. The front sight has also been modified - now it has a static position and a classic matte sight (without light accumulators). The rifle is more bulky, but is more reliable and is mainly used for hunting.
- Hatsan AT44-10 Tact (Tactical). The tactical version is distinguished by reduced dimensions and the presence of a telescopic butt (can be retracted and adjusted). The rifle is very convenient for transportation and is intended for recreational shooting (there is simply no other way to explain the replacement of the dovetail with a Picatinny sighting rail). The weapon has an impressive appearance and makes an impression on an amateur.
- Hatsan AT44-10 PA (Pump Action). One of the most unusual modifications, which boasts a pump-action reloading system - a rather rare occurrence for pneumatic smoothbore weapons. The Turkish manufacturer assures that such a change was caused by a large surge in requests from users to get a rifle that is as close as possible to a military weapon.
- Hatsan AT44-10 Camo (Camouflage). One of the most common versions of the classic “Hatsan”, intended for hunting. The only fundamental difference from the analogue is a different color, which is close to what special forces of the armed forces use to conduct combat operations in the forest. The only pity is that for such a rifle you will have to look for optics with camouflage (very rare), otherwise the sight will stand out too much.
And these are just the most popular modifications. The rifle also has a good base for independent tuning. For example, not only optics, but also a collimator can be installed on the dovetail, and the plastic stock can be replaced with a classic wooden one.

Design
Speaking about the design of the Hatsan AT44-10, it is worth noting that the rifle has two safeties: automatic and manual. The first serves to prevent a shot as a result of an accidental fall of the weapon from a great height, and the second protects against unwanted consequences when the trigger is pressed. You can remove the rifle from the safety using a special button by moving it to the “OFF” position. Automation cannot be deactivated.
Sighting bar
Particularly noteworthy is the adjustable sighting bar, which allows you to adjust the shooting accuracy from a distance of several tens of meters. To adjust the aiming bar to the right and left, use the side drum, up and down – the top one. Also, the sighting bar can move freely along the dovetail if a special bolt is unscrewed. This feature will be especially useful for those who use a rifle for shooting at short and long distances.
Trigger mechanism
Well, don’t forget about the main pride of an air rifle – its trigger mechanism. The energy source is a large compressed air cylinder, the power of which is enough for 2000 shots. The release is carried out using a soft trigger, which is considered sensitive enough for pneumatics (but this feature allows you to shoot accurately at long distances). However, the release can be adjusted at any time using the Quattro Trigger mechanism.
Rifle equipment
The standard kit includes the rifle itself, additional clip magazines (drums) - 1 or 2 pcs., a set of spare parts, instructions and a warranty card. The replacement kit includes a number of seals, as well as parts for tank repair and maintenance.
The Hatsan branded pump is usually sold separately. Its price ranges from 10 to 14 thousand rubles. Chinese versions of high-pressure pumps suitable for these models are 1.5-2 times cheaper. An original sound moderator that reduces the sound of a shot will cost 2-2.5 thousand rubles.
Video review of the Hatsan AT44-10 air rifle, equipment, charging, first shots:
The latest versions of the model are equipped with improved drums, in which a rubber ring is used around the perimeter of the magazine to additionally secure bullets. Without such a ring, drums are usually more dense, which makes it difficult to feed the bullet into the barrel and can cause it to deform.
What is included
In addition to the rifle itself, standard equipment also includes:
- two additional magazines (drums) for 10 rounds,
- warranty card,
- operating instructions,
- gun passport
- set of spare parts.
At an additional cost, you can also purchase a replacement kit that contains several reservoir seals and additional repair wrenches.
As for the branded pump from Hatsan, it is purchased exclusively separately (costs from 10 to 14 thousand rubles). However, many owners prefer to buy Chinese analogues suitable for the AT44-10 model, which are several times cheaper. In principle, this approach is considered completely justified, but such models, as a rule, do not have a guarantee for long service.
Even the latest versions of the rifle began to be equipped with improved drums, which are distinguished by an additional retainer for bullets, as well as a denser rubber ring that prevents loss of power during a shot. Also, if you wish, you can buy a rifle with an installed and configured optical sight (this modification is usually created by the stores themselves).
Purpose
Considering the average price category and good performance parameters of Hatsan PCP rifles, their main use is related to recreational shooting and hunting. With models of this series it is difficult to make an accurate shot at a long distance, but at medium and short distances the price-quality ratio is very attractive. Rifles are practically not used for sport shooting, using more suitable models made in Europe.
All modifications of the Hatsan AT44-10 line are suitable for hunting game birds at distances of up to 50-70 m (less often – up to 100 m). When shooting at cans, bottles (plink) and country rodents, rifles can become a champion in the ratio of the number of shots and accurate (effective) hits.
Domestic products, which entered the pneumatic market in 2002, are assembled exclusively by hand. The Moran air rifle is available in two caliber variations - 5.5 or 6.35 mm. You can get reviews of the Hatsan BT65 RB Elite Air Rifle from here. It is better to entrust the choice of a worthy Hatsan for hunting to experienced specialists.
Possibilities for increasing power
In general, when it comes to Hatsan AT44-10, few people are interested in this question, since the initial indicators are more than enough. However, if desired, the initial velocity of the bullet can be increased by several percent (from 10 to 30). To do this, you can use the following methods:
- Install a more powerful tank. If the rifle you purchased dates back to 2012 or earlier, then it will likely have a weaker cylinder than modern models. If you replace it with a new one (with an additional sealing ring and a capacity of up to 230 atm), the power will be increased by about 30%. This is the most optimal option for the owner who decides to add ammo power to his rifle.
- Shorten the trunk. Every experienced gunsmith knows that the shorter the barrel, the less speed the bullet will lose when flying out of it. However, it is worth knowing that such a process will negatively affect the accuracy of the rifle at long distances. Therefore, it makes sense to shorten the barrel only when you need to fire a shot from a distance of up to 50 meters.
- Using quality oil. For some this may sound trivial, but the fact remains that the speed of the bullet also depends on the quality of the oil with which the barrel is lubricated. After purchasing a rifle, it is best to re-preserve the weapon and remove the factory grease. Instead, it is recommended to apply a high-quality mineral composition, and lubricate all mechanisms with silicone liquid.
However, it is worth noting once again that there is no need to increase power. Even if you increase the bullet speed to 400 m/s, this will not allow it to penetrate the thick skin of a beaver or wild boar (the caliber is too small). Alas, the purpose of pneumatics is hunting small fur-bearing animals and small birds, as well as target practice.
Disassembly
To carry out partial disassembly, you will need a set of hexagons, keys, a Phillips screwdriver and accessories from the spare parts kit if you plan to replace them. The disassembly sequence is as follows:
- take out the drum and remove the optical sight (if one is installed);
- unscrew the screws at the bottom of the stock, including under the trigger guard;
- disconnect the bed;
- remove the moderator and the front sight attached to the muzzle;
- remove the figure-of-eight rings for securing the tank;
- unscrew the two screws from the firing pin housing;
- carefully remove the cover, checking the safety of small parts;
- We remove the bypass (air adapter) from the reservoir, after which you can begin cleaning and servicing the rifle mechanism.
A detailed disassembly of the rifle mechanism and its subsequent adjustment is shown in the video:
Assembly is carried out in reverse order. To prevent small parts from getting lost, do not forget to put them in small containers.
Which optics should you choose?
There are no fundamental restrictions on optical sights for these models, since PCP pneumatics do not have high recoil. The upper rail for mounting the sight is initially quite long, so you can install optics of almost any size on the rifle.
Considering the average shooting accuracy data, you should not purchase the most powerful sights designed for long distances. To solve any problems with this rifle, a scope with a maximum magnification of no more than 10? is suitable.
Moderator
A pneumatic shot is characterized by a loud pop and a distinct ringing, which is advisable to reduce when shooting in the garden or during hunting. A distinctive feature of rifles is the lack of technological ability to use massive silencer designs that completely surround the barrel (the most effective). Instead, you have to use classic products that are screwed onto the muzzle of the barrel after removing the front sight.
Branded moderators from Hatsan are quite expensive, but Chinese copies, which can be bought for up to one and a half thousand rubles, reduce the sound load no worse than the original ones.
To achieve maximum effect, it is recommended to use an anti-ringing glass in conjunction with the muffler. A shot from a rifle equipped with such a kit will be practically inaudible from a distance of 20-30 m.
Tuning (modernization)
Unlike European brands, where the quality of production of air guns has been brought to a solid level, Turkish rifles leave enthusiasts ample opportunities for modernization.
Increased power of the Hatsan AT44-10 rifle:
The most common ways to upgrade Hatsan PCP rifles are:
- adjustment of the initial speed of the bullet, carried out by increasing the speed of the striker. Optimal results are achieved by reducing the weight of the firing pin (grinding off or replacing with a lighter one) and prestressing the mainspring;
- replacement of a metal plug, which increases the number of shots with the same bullet speed and allows you to adjust it to your own needs. Such plugs are made to order, however, there is a risk of not fitting into the dimensions of a particular specimen - the dimensions of Turkish products may not be repeated in different samples;
- installation of an anti-ringing glass. The essence of eliminating ringing when firing from a pre-pumped rifle is achieved by placing a dense glass inside the tank, against which vibrations are damped. Such products are often made simultaneously with the production of a new cork.
Analogues and prices
The cost of the Turkish rifle Hatsan AT44-10 is approximately 35 thousand rubles. In this price range there are quite a few analogues from other manufacturers:
Model | Short description | Price, rub |
Puncher Breaker | Another Turkish model with similar technical characteristics. However, the Puncher uses 6.35 caliber bullets, making it suitable for hunting larger game. However, the cost of branded ammunition may deter buyers. | 32000 |
Diana 350 F Panther Magnum | A German spring-piston model with a classic appearance and a firing speed of up to 380 m/s. Unfortunately, the magazine capacity in all modifications is only 1 round (the classic turning point for cocking). However, the barrel length of 1230 mm allows for targeted shooting up to 400 meters. | 37000 |
Umarex Beretta CX4 Storm | Another model from a German company that does not require frequent reloading (30-round magazine). The weight of the rifle is only 1200 grams, making it suitable for the owner of almost any configuration. Bullet speed – 375 m/s. | 33000 |
Advantages and disadvantages
Advantages of PCP Hatsan rifles:
- an improved drum equipped with a ring to hold the bullet;
- the presence of light accumulators in the form of dots on the rear sight and front sight (allows you to shoot at dusk);
- ample opportunities for modernization;
- high power after additional refinement.
Disadvantages of the system:
- low safety margin of the tank, which can be deformed when pumped 5-10% above the permitted level (200 atm);
- rifle parameters sometimes change from model to model, which reduces the possibility of unification during upgrades and repairs;
- the tank is disconnected only during disassembly;
- in models with classic cocking (not pump-action), sometimes breakdowns of the cocking mechanism are observed.
Hatsan AT44-10 series rifles are an adequate replacement for spring-piston pneumatics. With any of these rifles you can effectively conduct amateur shooting and hunt game birds at medium distances. The wide range of available upgrade options expands the range of applications, increasing shot range and reliability.
