Air gun with a power of 7.5 J: rating of the most powerful pneumatic guns with a rifled barrel

Practical shooting is an exciting and very dynamic sport in which the actions of shooters are as close as possible to real combat conditions. This imposes special requirements on the weapons used.

In practical shooting, there are several disciplines for pistols, carbines and shotguns, each with a division into categories. Therefore, this sport is popular both among professional shooters and among hunters and representatives of law enforcement agencies, because it allows you to hone your weapon skills.

Today we will talk about rifled pistols, pneumatic and firearms options that can be used in practical shooting. Dmitry Ostrovsky, a weapons expert, professional shooter and co-owner of the SWC weapons company, spoke about which models are best for this sport. This company specializes in the production of sports and hunting weapons of its own design, namely pistols and carbines for different classes of competition.

What is

First of all, it is worth understanding that an air pistol is a type of small arms in which a projectile is fired under the influence of compressed gas energy.

The main characteristic of a pneumatic weapon is its shot power, which is defined by the concept of “muzzle energy.” This parameter, in turn, is calculated based on the following data:

  • the speed at which the projectile exits directly from the barrel;
  • projectile mass.

An important aspect is also the fact that the force of the shot is measured in joules (J). Having basic knowledge of physics, it is quite logical to assume that large-caliber bullets have significant muzzle energy, which has a good effect on the target. Therefore, a minimum level of muzzle energy safety was developed, which is characterized by a value of 7.5 J.

It is important to know: in Russia, to purchase pneumatic weapons with a power of up to 7.5 J, you do not need to have any weapons license.

Lethal force of an air pistol

As a weapon for self-defense, you can buy, for example, pneumatic guns that look like a real firearm. It will not be possible to kill a person using such a copy. An air pistol can be used as a psychological weapon, in the hope that the attacker will mistake the decoy for the original and become afraid.

Pneumatics of 4.5 mm caliber and a power of 3-7.5 J are sold without a license. When purchasing, you only need to show your passport and prove that you are already 18 years old. An air pistol fires lead pellets or steel balls. Such projectiles easily break a glass bottle, but cannot penetrate clothing. If you shoot a person in the face (eyes) with a pneumatic gun, you can cause serious harm to health and even go to prison for 2-3 years for exceeding the permissible self-defense limit.

Some air rifles have greater destructive power than air pistols. True, without special permission you will not be able to buy pneumatics with a caliber of 5.5-9 mm and a power of 7.5-25 J. And such weapons must be used strictly for their intended purpose - for hunting (if you have a hunting license) or sport shooting (if you have a sports club membership card).

An air rifle can kill small animals or birds. This model will not be able to pierce clothes. A real firearm, for example, a 7.62 mm caliber, has a power of 1,540 J and a bullet speed of 715 m/s.

What types of pneumatics are there?

Depending on the design features, pneumatic pistols are usually divided into the following types:

  1. Spring-piston products are distinguished by the fact that compressed air is generated due to the movement of the piston under the influence of a spring.
  2. The gas-cylinder design of pneumatics implies the presence of a reservoir for carbon dioxide (CO2), and the cylinders can be either built-in or removable.
  3. In pyropneumatic pistols, the shot is fired using a mixture of propane and butane.
  4. Compression pneumatics are distinguished by the fact that air is pumped into a special chamber using a pump.

Air pistols are also usually distinguished depending on the barrel design:

  1. In rifled barrels, the inner walls have notches, which give the bullet a rotational movement when fired.
  2. Smoothbore pneumatics have a tube-shaped barrel with smooth inner walls. This type of weapon is characterized by low accuracy and firing range.

It is important to know: the main feature of air pistols with a rifled barrel is the accuracy of shooting at a target.

In order to enjoy shooting with a pneumatic gun in the future, when choosing it, you should first of all pay attention to the following aspects:

  • power (we already mentioned it above);
  • appearance (individual samples of pneumatics may resemble real samples of pistols, for example, such as the legendary Makarov, Walter or revolver);
  • cost of the shot, which includes the price of bullets and replacement gas cylinders;
  • rate of fire;
  • ease of holding the pistol when shooting;
  • availability of additional accessories included.

The modern airgun market today is quite well saturated with all sorts of powerful items from different manufacturers. The uniqueness and characteristics will largely depend on how much money you are willing to shell out for the best weapon.

Rating of air bullet pistols

1st place – Blow H-01

This is a classic model of a sports air pistol for beginner shooting skills. Due to the high-quality rifled metal barrel, it has high accuracy for hitting targets. The anatomical handle allows for comfortable holding in the palm of your hand. It has a convenient open sighting bar, which consists of a movable rear sight and a front sight with a ring holder. This model is reliable and easy to use; the spring is charged by breaking the barrel.

It is also considered important in sports training shooting that this pistol, due to its spring-piston air injection system, allows the shooter to fire a large number of shots without any significant material costs: for shooting, only lead bullets of 4.5 mm caliber are required. The spring, compressor, piston and cuff can be replaced taking into account wear. The main mechanisms in this model are made of metal, which makes the gun more durable, unlike its various aluminum counterparts. The light weight and dimensions of this weapon made it easy to transport and store.

This is a budget pistol and its price is quite justified. The handle is made of black plastic composite and has a special anti-slip grooved surface. The cartridges are inserted one at a time into the barrel of the pistol. The weight of the weapon is light, despite its rather large size, that is, prolonged shooting from it does not tire.

A powerful spring makes it possible to ensure an initial bullet flight speed of at least 140 m/s, which is excellent for an air pistol, especially considering that it can only be fired with lead bullets.

The rifled metal barrel ensures high accuracy; the front and rear sights can be adjusted, this helps in precise zeroing of pneumatics and, if necessary, making various adjustments. But the main highlight of this pistol is the installed recoil system during shooting; recoil is reduced by a special shock-absorbing spring located on the back of the air cylinder, this significantly increases the accuracy of the hit.

2nd place – Crosman Vigilante

This is a pneumatic revolver, which is an improved version of the classic weapon of the American manufacturer Crosman 357-6. This model allows you to fire copper-plated balls and lead bullets. It is a continuation of the model range of 6-inch rifled revolvers of the 357 series, which are very popular among domestic fans of air guns due to their low cost, high shot force and accuracy. The pistol differs from previous models in the rough modern appearance of the barrel and the presence of two tactical mounts (Weaver rail) under the barrel and on top of it.

This is one of the most affordable models of short-barreled pneumatics. Moreover, the revolver has very attractive parameters: a metal barrel 150 mm long, powerful shot force (the bullet speed indicated by the manufacturer is 130 m/s), excellent accuracy, a 10-round drum, a convenient adjustable sight, a double trigger mechanism.

The body is made of aluminum alloy, the false barrel and clip magazine are made of durable plastic composite, all trigger elements are metal. Despite its large size, the weight of the loaded weapon is no more than 0.8 kg.

The highlight of the revolver is that it is omnivorous; you can shoot metal balls or lead bullets. When the drum is equipped with balls, the initial speed of the bullet increases to 145 m/s, which will certainly be appreciated by shooting enthusiasts as entertainment. To use the balls, the basic package includes a specially made clip-drum for them. Unlike the bullet clip, it has a smaller capacity - only six balls fit, this makes it possible to slightly reduce the load on the barrel during shooting.

For the sake of objectivity, it should be noted that the revolver also has disadvantages, the main one being the large handle, which can cause some discomfort to a shooter with a small palm. This model is not suitable for connoisseurs of exact replicas of military weapons. Overall, this airgun is a great choice of powerful guns at an affordable price that fun enthusiasts will definitely appreciate.

3rd place – MP-655K

This is a pneumatic model of a modern military weapon - the Yarygin pistol, adopted by special forces in 2002. Pneumatics have been manufactured since 2007 by the domestic manufacturer Baikal, this model has excellent shooting performance, it is characterized by reliability, ease of maintenance, and ease of use.

The pistol is excellent for target shooting, for recreational entertainment and is successfully used for sports and training shooting. Weapons are often used to teach initial skills in handling combat pistols, as the developers have done everything to give this model safety and structural strength.

The mechanism has a number of special technologies patented by domestic designers. These innovations include a system that saves gas in the canister, which is the source of the shot. A special device automatically locks the trigger if the cartridge runs out of cartridges.

The pistol is equipped with a bunker magazine, which allows for high capacity - the clip can be equipped with 100 balls, or the weapon can be fired with 8 lead bullets. When firing balls, the hopper is charged within a few seconds; you just need to pour them into the magazine. If bullets are used, they are loaded directly into the drum; this model contains an indicator of the number of remaining cartridges.

The pistol has a double trigger. The initial velocity of the bullet is approximately 120 m/s, which is enough for entertainment and sports training shooting. This pistol is characterized by its reliable design and ease of use. All this made it an excellent choice for connoisseurs of bullet shooting.
