The Negev machine gun is the strongest competitor to the M249. Infinite shooting with a clip of 150 rounds, strong damage, rate of fire and price of this device give it a good advantage over all types of machine guns. Of course, you shouldn’t expect strong recoil and accurate bullet flight from it, but as an alternative type of “fun” weapon, it’s a great choice.

The Negev machine gun in cs go appeared only in this version of the game. And began to gain popularity due to the updated price. Until 2022, its cost was $5,700 in the game, which was the reason for the low popularity of the weapon.

Like the M249 Machine Gun, the Negev is not very popular in competitive modes and international tournaments. Due to its poor technical characteristics in the game at different distances, bullet accuracy, as well as dynamic movement, they lead to low popularity among most gamers.

In Counter-Strike 1.6 there was one machine gun - the M249. In contrast, the Negev has a more competitive rate of fire (almost 25% higher) and a larger supply of cartridges in the magazine - 150 (the M249 has 100). But, unfortunately, it has a stronger bullet spread and recoil during clamping.

FACT: In major world tournaments, using Machine Guns against an opponent is considered disrespectful. Therefore, teams are most often prohibited from purchasing such a device for such reasons. Even though your opponent may be weaker than you, you must respect your enemy.

Negev. Light machine gun. (Israel)

The Israeli Negev light machine gun is designed to destroy enemy personnel, lightly armored vehicles and vehicles, and fire support for ground forces. Developed in the late 1990s to replace the FN MAG 58 machine gun, which is in service with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Serially produced by Israel Military Industries Ltd.

The automatic machine gun operates by removing part of the powder gases from the barrel. The cartridges are fed either from magazines from a Galil assault rifle, or from a belt feed. If the barrel overheats, it can be replaced with a spare; barrels with a length of 330 and 440 mm are available. The trigger mechanism allows for single and automatic fire. The safety box is combined with a fire mode selector; it is located above the pistol grip. The fire switch has 3 positions: in position “1” the cartridges are fed from Galil magazines, the rate of fire is 750 - 800 rpm, in position “2” the cartridges are fed from the belt, the rate of fire is 750 - 800 rpm, in position “3” is powered by cartridges from a tape, the rate of fire is 850 - 1000 rpm. The butt of the machine gun is folded onto the right side of the receiver.

The sight is open, sector, adjustable from 300 to 1000 meters. For shooting at dusk and at night, the sight has tritium illumination. The bipod folds under the fore-end by turning it.

How to play with Negev

  • Due to wild spread, always keep the scope down. It is very important to control your spray, since shooting at a bullet with such a device is simply unbearable;
  • As soon as you are out of sight of the enemy, or out of the firefight, immediately switch your weapon to a more dynamic one. A good option would be to switch to a knife or pistol. Since it is very difficult to move quickly with the Negev in your hands;
  • Negev is a good choice against enemies that constantly move together. Shooting into a large crowd with the enemy will be the best solution, since the likelihood that a clip of 150 rounds of ammunition will hit someone is much higher;
  • Even though there are a lot of cartridges in stock, you can still get carried away and not keep track of them. Always try to keep track of the number of cartridges in the magazine , since completely replacing it will take a very long time. We highly recommend finding cover to avoid the difficult and awkward situation of meeting the enemy at this moment;
  • To make it easier for you to understand, how to control the spray more correctly in the Negev, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with this picture:
    Scatter during clampingHow to control the mouse clip
  • Try to choose closer distances, or even better, narrow ones . Due to the large spread in such moments, it will be much easier to hit the enemy;
  • Due to its weight, your model's movement decreases by ~20% . It is always necessary to take this fact into account, since a quick change of position will be very difficult with him in his hands;
  • Try not to move while shooting . Any movement or side strafe will cause your return to increase significantly. Which will lead to a completely inefficient use of bullets and time;
  • As with the M249, we strongly advise you to aim at the enemy’s legs , since the powerful recoil of the sight itself will lead to the head. This takes into account the fact that you will be making a spray of 30-60 rounds;
  • If you have good aim, you can try to shoot 1-5 bullets, clearly aiming at the enemy. But with this style, we recommend buying another weapon;
  • Jump shooting is also ineffective and crooked . All bullets will not fly accurately, the spread will increase and the chances of hitting will be reduced to zero;
  • A much better way to achieve a more accurate hit is to crouch while holding a powerful clamp. In the game cs:go, it is in a sitting position that all weapons have a more accurate hit than when standing, and even more so when moving;
  • If it turns out that you were hit by a sniper rifle, then if the encounter is not successful, we recommend changing to a knife and quickly moving to cover. The likelihood that you will be hit with the second shot increases significantly. Moreover, due to the slow movement, it is much easier to hit you;
  • A good tactic is to always play with your teammates nearby. In case of a miss or unsuccessful shooting, they can always back you up;
  • It’s clear that if your enemy has a device like the Negev, then in any close range or narrow tunnels you need to avoid meeting him as much as possible . He will always have an advantage there;
  • Always take into account the fact that the enemy with the Negev may go to reload - this is the best moment to finish him off. Open up to him as quickly as possible and try to hit him;
  • Against Negev, it is best to retreat and work with him at long range. This will allow you to have an advantage, especially if you have devices such as AK47 , M4A4 , M4A1-S , AWP .

The Negev light machine gun is an automatic weapon that uses gas-operated automatics. The barrel is air-cooled, the barrels are quick-changeable, and are available in two modifications - standard length and shortened (the “Commando” option, for close combat in urban areas). The gas release mechanism is located under the barrel, has a manual gas regulator with three positions (1 - for shooting using magazines, 2 - for shooting using a tape at a slower rate, 3 - for shooting with a tape and at an increased rate of fire). The automatic system uses a gas piston with with a long working stroke, connected to the bolt frame by two long rods having a window in the middle through which the magazine shaft passes. Locking the barrel is done by turning the bolt. Firing is carried out from an open bolt, and the machine gun has the ability to fire both bursts and single shots. A three-position safety switch for fire modes is located in the upper part of the pistol grip. The machine gun is powered selectively; the use of loose metal strips with an open link (the main method of ammunition supply) or automatic magazines is allowed. The tape receiver is located on top of the receiver, tape feeds from left to right. The ejection of empty links and spent cartridges is to the right. The magazine receiver is located at the bottom; the magazines are inserted into it vertically upward. Magazines with 35 rounds from the Galil assault rifle are used as standard; after installing a special adapter, it is possible to use magazines from M16 rifles with a capacity of 30 rounds. Simultaneous loading of the belt and magazine is not allowed, as it will lead to double feeding of the cartridge and the impossibility of firing. Belts can be used either by themselves or from special semi-rigid containers with a capacity of 150 or 200 rounds, connected using a special adapter to the magazine receiver. The machine gun is standardly equipped with a side-folding metal butt from a Galil assault rifle, a carrying handle (located on interchangeable barrels) and a removable folding bipod. Additionally, it is possible to install a front vertical handle under the forend, which provides more convenient shooting from a machine gun on the move, from the hip. Standard sights are open and adjustable. It is possible to install brackets for optical, collimator or night sights.

Interesting facts about the Negev

  • In the first versions of cs:go, the animation of holding weapons was completely different. It was changed to a more logical one (hold the device with both hands);
  • Negev has the fastest bullet firing speed in the game (1000 rounds per mirutu). Prior to the release of this weapon, this title was held by the P90 ;
  • If you take a real machine gun in real life, then the speed of the shot can be controlled;
  • Negev and 2 more Vepon ( Deagle and Galil ) come from Israel.

Precision machine gun: Negev NG7

It seems that a new trend in the development of small arms is emerging right before our eyes. Not long ago, the American branch of the Belgian company FN carried out a series of works to make a weapon from the SCAR assault rifle that combines all the qualities of an assault rifle and a light machine gun. Now the Belgians and Americans have been joined by the Israeli company Israel Weapon Industries (IWI). Only Israeli gunsmiths, although they also took an already existing model as a basis, went towards universalism from the other side.

The Negev light machine gun was chosen as the basis for the new universal weapon. It is designed to use 5.56x45 mm NATO cartridges and has pretty good performance for this class of weapon. To achieve some tactical “interchangeability” of the machine gun with automatic rifles, a new modification of the machine gun was created, called the Negev NG7. It is distinguished from the original design by two main points: the cartridge and the fire modes. Instead of the low-pulse 5.56x45 cartridge, the NG7 uses a 7.62x51 mm NATO rifle cartridge. It is possible to draw approximate conclusions about changes in the shooting data of a weapon. In addition, the Negev can now fire not only in bursts. The NG7 has added the function of firing single shots from self-cocking. It is noteworthy that IWI representatives strongly emphasize this, although it is difficult to say which of the NG7 innovations is more interesting. However, to promote the new machine gun, IWI chose to focus on single fire. Moreover, Israeli designers especially emphasize the fact that the Negev NG7 is the only 7.62-mm light machine gun in the world with a single-fire mode. I must say, there is some truth in this, only the words “currently” need to be added to the Israeli statements. Then the words about the only machine gun in the world will look more truthful, because the good old BREN L4, and then the “Germans” Heckler-Koch HK11 and HK21, had similar features. In addition, these “Heckler-Kochs” or even “Brens” can still be found in the arsenals of the world. So the most correct and plausible advertisement for the NG7 should look something like this: “the only light machine gun in the world currently in mass production, with the ability to conduct single aimed fire.” But Israeli designers and managers have their own specific views on product promotion, and our correct description does not look very convenient for short and memorable press releases, not to mention advertising.

Unfortunately, in addition to the above changes in the design of the Negev, no data on the new weapon has been published. But even from these few facts you can “get” much more information. For example, a new cartridge. Increasing the caliber to 7.62 millimeters and the case length to 51 affects not only the barrel. Negev has automation based on gas removal, which, when changing ammunition, requires changing a number of units. So, most likely, the NG7 received an updated gas regulator. According to the principle of operation, it could remain the same as before, but it required modification to accommodate a different cartridge power. Thus, there is reason to believe that the three modes of its operation remained unchanged. The gas regulator of the original version of the Negev machine gun, depending on the type of ammunition, can operate in the following modes: for working with a box magazine; for using the tape and firing at a rate of 700-800 rounds per minute; for using tape and firing at speeds of up to a thousand rounds per minute. Also, changing the cartridge requires modifications to the chamber, bolt group and a number of other internals of the machine gun.

The single-fire mode, in turn, required only a slight change in the design of the trigger mechanism. The fire selector flag, like the safety on earlier versions of the Negev, is located above the pistol grip on the NG7. Unlike the two-position safety, the translator has three positions: trigger blocking, single and automatic fire. The introduction into the design of measures to ensure single-shot shooting was caused by the customer’s desire to obtain a weapon that had the ability to more or less accurately aimed fire. Obviously, this is impossible when firing in bursts, and IWI decided to add a second fire mode. Since the Negev can now be called, even jokingly, a “sniper machine gun,” the designers took care of the accuracy of single-shot fire. Where early Negevs had open sights, the NG7 has a Picatinny rail. An open sight, accordingly, is installed on it at the factory. At the shooter's request, any type of sight can be mounted on the rail, depending on conditions and capabilities.

The main parts of the automation have undergone minor changes associated with the transition to a new cartridge and the introduction of single-shot firing mode. In the same way, the machine gun’s ammunition system has hardly changed. To feed cartridges, 30-round detachable box magazines or 100/150/200-round belts are still used. The size of the magazines and belt links was changed in accordance with the dimensions of the 7.62x51 mm cartridge. The tape, as before, can be packed in a special semi-rigid container bag. The tape links are thrown out along with the cartridges.

In general, as is clear from the available data, the Negev NG7 light machine gun turned out to be no worse than its contemporaries and competitors. True, the use of a more powerful cartridge may cause some inconvenience to a shooter accustomed to the low-pulse 5.56 NATO. But the combat qualities of a weapon with a new cartridge can significantly increase, especially since it has received the function of a “sniper machine gun.” Perhaps attempts to combine the qualities of a light machine gun and an assault rifle in one sample are not entirely correct in their essence, but it cannot be said that IWI made an unsuccessful machine gun. All that remains is to wait for the first deliveries of Negev NG7 to the troops and the first cases of its combat use. Then, based on the fighters’ feedback, it will be possible to draw appropriate conclusions.
