High-precision sniper rifle from the Moscow plant: meet ORSIS T-5000

ORSIS T-5000 is a high-precision bolt-action repeating sniper rifle. "ORSIS" is produced by the arms factory of the same name of the Moscow industrial group "Promtekhnologii". The model was developed in 2011, and immediately began testing it in combat exercises. Large-scale production began in 2016 and continues to this day. The weapon is in service with the Special Operations Forces of the Russian Federation, the FSB, the FSO and the Russian Guard.

Design and its features

Orsis T-5000 is a representative of the carriers of a unique bolt group made of stainless steel. The shutter of the model is rotary, longitudinally sliding. The barrel and trigger mechanism are also made of high quality steel, as is the firing pin itself. The accuracy of the barrel is incredibly high - 0.002 millimeters. Fullers are installed on the body of the receiver to reduce cooling time and reduce the weight of the entire structure.

The muzzle has threads with which you can attach a muzzle brake, compensator and other improvements. The stock is made of aluminum alloy; high ergonomics are supported by the pistol grip shape. Some varieties involve adjusting the trigger force. The guide is of the Picatinny type for mounting an optical sight. You can purchase a bracket for installing a pre-objective attachment. Optical sights are considered “native”.

Rifle for a professional sniper

Sniper rifle ORSIS SE T-5000 .338 Grafit Black
A new sniper rifle T-5000 ORSIS has been developed in Russia, which can replace the currently popular foreign-made models in domestic special forces.

There is no need to talk about the considerable importance snipers have in current armed conflicts, during special and counter-terrorism operations. In this regard, in modern conditions, the requirements for sniper weapons have become more stringent in the area of such characteristics as aimed shooting range, accuracy, penetrating and lethal effect of a bullet, the ability to be used in various conditions day and night, and maneuverability. It is also well known that in the domestic weapons system the “niche” of a high-precision sniper rifle is still poorly filled (we are talking not only about the rifle itself, but also about the “cartridge-weapon-sight” complex, each element of which makes a significant contribution to the characteristics of the weapon) . The 7.62-mm SVD rifle, an excellent military weapon, is no longer very suitable for solving a number of sniper tasks in terms of its accuracy and accuracy, especially at ranges of more than 800 m. This required supplementing the SVD with a rifle with significantly improved shooting accuracy and a higher magnification scope. Snipers of special forces units of Russian law enforcement agencies are now actively using foreign sniper rifles (British AW Ecuracy International, Finnish TRG-21 and TRG-22 Sako, German AMP, etc.). Therefore, it is not surprising that any new domestically produced sniper rifle arouses the keenest interest - no matter what class the professional is, he needs a specialized professional tool to succeed. In May 2011, Promtekhnologii Group of Companies began production of its own sniper rifles under the T-5000 ORSIS brand (the Latinized abbreviation for “weapon systems”) in Moscow. The rifles were presented to the general public in September 2011 at an arms exhibition in Nizhny Tagil. The rifles are called "tactical". Apparently, this is not only a tribute to “foreign” fashion (the name “tactical rifle” has indeed become quite common abroad), but also an indication that the model can be effectively used in a wide variety of tactical situations. The T-5000 was initially presented in two calibers, widely used in specialized sniper weapons - chambered for .308 Winchester (.308 Win, 7.62×51) and .338 Lapua Magnum (.338 Lapua Magnum, 8 ,58×69). A variant chambered for the .300 Winchester Magnum cartridge (.300 Win Magnum, 7.62×67) was soon added.

To test its combat qualities, the rifle was transferred to special forces of Russian law enforcement agencies - the FSB, the Federal Security Service, etc. - and further refinement of the weapon was carried out taking into account the comments of professional users. The ideologist and chief designer of the rifle was the General Director of the Promtekhnologii Group of Companies A. M. Sorokin, who worked out the design of the rifle and made the main sketches of the sample. It is worth noting that a significant contribution to the creation and development of the T-5000 was made by D. Yu. Semizorov, a veteran of the special purpose unit "Vympel" (since November 2012 - General Director of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise "TsNIITOCHMASH"), By the way, at the exhibition "Technologies in Mechanical Engineering" "In June 2012, the improved ORSIS T-5000 rifles chambered for .308 Winchester and .338 Lapua Magnum cartridges were exhibited at the TSINIITOCHMASH stand. A very effective advertisement for the new weapon was the victory in June 2012 of the team of Directorate “A” of the FSB Special Purpose Center at the World Sniper Shooting Championships held in Hungary - the Alfovites performed at them with the T-5000. However, the domestic media wrote quite a lot about this.

Now about the rifles themselves.

Like many high-precision sniper rifles, the T-5000 was created on the basis of a sports model. The typical choice for a sniper rifle is a high-precision magazine design and well-proven foreign cartridges. The latter, again, can be explained not only by the calculation for the “commercial” market (and the Promtekhnologii Group of Companies is a rare example for the domestic industry of a thoroughly established “private” weapons production), but also by the deplorable situation with domestic sniper ammunition.

The barrel of the T-5000 rifle, made of special stainless steel, is mounted cantilever in the receiver; a slotted muzzle brake-compensator is installed on the muzzle of the barrel, absorbing up to 50% of the recoil energy. Depending on the caliber of the cartridge, four or six right-handed rectangular riflings are made in the barrel bore. Longitudinal lobes on the outer surface of the barrel make it possible to provide the required rigidity while simultaneously making it lighter.

The combat cylinder of the longitudinally sliding rotary bolt is made according to a design that is a “compromise” between the bolts of the Remington Model 700 and Mauser schemes - with two combat lugs, a cup for the case head, an ejector and a spring-loaded reflector mounted directly in the bolt, pushing the cartridge case out of the barrel window boxes after being removed from the chamber. This scheme allows reloading with the least noise; the absence of a cutout in the combat cylinder for the passage of the reflector makes locking the barrel more reliable and safe. When locked, the bolt lugs fit into the grooves of the receiver. When the bolt is closed, the case head is surrounded by concentric rings - the bolt cup and the receiver. The shutter is made relatively large, which ensures its strength and strengthens the locking unit. The bolt stem has holes for releasing powder gases if they break through the chamber or sleeve. According to the cartridge, a “short” or “long” bolt group is used. The receiver and bolt are made of stainless steel. The trigger mechanism is made with the placement of the firing pin and the screw mainspring in the bolt cavity.

The tail of the firing pin protruding from behind the bolt allows you to determine the condition of the firing mechanism visually or by touch. The firing pin is cocked when the bolt is unlocked (opened). Trigger - with warning, trigger force can be adjusted within 0.5-0.9 kgf. A fairly smooth descent contributes to shooting accuracy. A three-position fuse with a flag rotating in a horizontal plane is mounted in the rear part of the bolt: in the “safety” position (rear position of the flag), the firing pin and bolt are blocked, in the disassembly position (middle) the firing pin is blocked, the bolt is free, and can be easily pulled back during disassembly (to do this, you need to press the bolt latch on the left side of the receiver), the forward position of the flag corresponds to the “fire” state (a bright orange dot opens). When the bolt is closed, its large handle is above the trigger guard, and the head of the safety flag is accessible to the thumb of the shooting hand.

The cartridges are fed from a direct detachable metal magazine. The receiver neck, which is part of the stock, ensures a strong fastening of the magazine.

The layout and balance of the rifle ensures a reduction in the “knockover” effect of recoil. The composite stock is made of light aluminum alloy D16T; for ease of transportation and disassembly, the T-5000 is equipped with a butt folding to the left. The butt joint is made of steel for greater strength, reliability and elimination of backlash; connections are made “steel to steel”. The buttstock is equipped with a butt pad made of wear-resistant rubber and adjustable in height, as well as a height-adjustable cheek rest for the shooter. The length of the stock is determined by the spacer under the butt plate and is not otherwise adjustable. The receiver rests on the stock through a kind of layer impregnated with epoxy resin, providing not only a better fit, but also a more even distribution of loads.

During the finalization, the stock received a number of changes and additions. The most noticeable thing is the appearance of a plastic handguard. Before that, the stock was designed, first of all, for shooting from a rest with the left hand holding the butt (for a right-handed shooter) - which, in fact, is what the shape of the butt was designed for. According to user comments, the rifle had to be adapted for shooting from a standing, sitting, or kneeling position, so a plastic fore-end pad was required. Subsequently, the overlay was further lengthened. The shape of the plastic pistol grip has also been improved - in particular, it has received an upper bend in the rear part. Thus, the shooter’s hands practically do not touch metal parts, which is especially convenient in cold or, conversely, very hot weather. The buttstock in the folded position was initially fixed with a magnetic lock, but practical tests of the rifle showed the unreliability of this solution, and a mechanical latch was introduced into the design. The screw that regulates the position of the “cheek” of the butt now turns “in steps”; the shooter can change its position “by clicks” and easily remember the comfortable position once found. That is, the ergonomics of the weapon were improved, first of all. A Picattini-type rail mounted on the receiver allows the installation of various types of sights. The manufacturer himself recommends using rifles with pancratic optical sights - American “Night Force” or domestic, relatively new, but well-proven “Daedalus”. An additional Picattini rail can be attached to the front of the stock for installing a pre-objective night attachment to the sight.

In front of the forend there is a mount for a bipod and a rifle sling. As standard, the rifle is equipped with a folding, height-adjustable bipod of the Harris Bipod type - another element widely used in sniper weapons in different countries.

The design of the rifle implements a number of generally well-known and proven solutions, but they are carefully selected, tested and applied as a whole.

Modern requirements for a high-precision sniper rifle require a deflection of hits of no more than one arc minute in the absence of wind influence. The accuracy of fire of the T-5000 is characterized by the following data - the dispersion of hits falls within 0.5 minutes of arc (MOA) when using high-quality ammunition. Here the manufacturer is also quite strict, recommending rifle cartridges from trusted manufacturers such as the German RWS and the Finnish Lapua.

It is clear what a significant contribution the technology of its production makes to the ballistic qualities of a weapon. ORSIS weapons are manufactured in Moscow, where modern computer numerical control machines are widely used. To produce rifling for sniper rifle barrels, the factory uses single-pass cutting, or more precisely, trellis planing. This technology is not as productive as mandrel drilling and is quite expensive, but nevertheless provides a higher quality bore. It is no coincidence that it is still widely used for the manufacture of precision rifle barrels. In one pass through the bore, the trellis processes one rifling, and removes metal to a depth of about 1 micron, so that at least 80 passes are required to make one rifling. A CNC machine allows you to change the number, shape and angle of the rifling in a fairly wide range. The machine for making rifling is a source of pride for Promtekhnologiya specialists. To demonstrate the absence of vibrations and smooth operation, an old technique is used here - a coin is placed on the edge of the support of a working machine. The rifling depth tolerance is 2-2.5 microns (0.002-0.0025 mm), when the chamber is deployed - about 2 microns. Instrumental control of the barrel in the laboratory - in terms of length, caliber, cleanliness of processing, rifling pitch, ratio of the width of the fields and rifling, etc. — carried out using optical and digital equipment, with digital video recording equipment. Electrical discharge machining is used in the manufacture of the receiver and bolt. Note that initially a version of the shutter was presented with screw grooves (grooves) milled on the stem, designed to retain small particles or moisture, but with further development such grooves were abandoned.

The “cheek” and pistol grip are milled from high-strength plastic.

In general, production does not at all represent a “transfer to Russian soil” of the finished technology of some foreign enterprise, but was created anew with the selection of appropriate equipment - mostly foreign-made.

The external metal surfaces of the rifle have a non-glare ceramic coating of the Cerakote type (Cerakote, a solution developed by the American), which, in particular, ensures high wear resistance of parts. The colors used are known as graphite black, sniper gray, sand yellow, and olive.

In general, the “cartridge-weapon-sight” complex turns out to be quite expensive, but, on the other hand, a sniper rifle is a professional tool, a certain increase in its price is inevitable, which can be seen in the example of both foreign and domestic sniper complexes.

The T-5000 rifle is offered in various configurations, in particular, it can be equipped with various belt options. The “tactical weapon belt” “Dolg-MZ” looks very original, which can be attached to the T-5000 using a two-point, three-point (“tactical”, with the shooter moving the weapon along the belt to different positions) and biathlon pattern (behind the back like a backpack) .

Tactical and technical characteristics of ORSIS T-5000 rifles (according to the manufacturer)

The article was written on the basis of materials provided by the Promtekhnologii Group of Companies.

Technical specifications

Improved technological characteristics allow the use of these weapons even in the most difficult operations and varied conditions.

Tactical and technical characteristics of ORSIS T-5000:

  • weight – 6.3 kilograms;
  • length (unfolded) – 1270 mm;
  • barrel length - 508 millimeters;
  • caliber – 7.62x51 mm;
  • initial bullet speed – 925 m/s;
  • sighting range – 1500 meters (minimum);
  • type of ammunition - detachable magazine for 5 or 10 rounds;
  • accuracy at a distance of 100 meters – no more than 0.2 MOA;
  • muzzle diameter – 22 mm.

During its operation, the rifle demonstrated its excellent wear resistance and ability to operate in harsh climatic conditions - with high humidity and frost down to -50 ° C. This is why weapons are purchased by different operating countries: from Syria and Vietnam to Saudi Arabia.

History of creation

The development of the ORSIS T-5000 tactical sniper rifle began in May 2011 in Moscow by the Promtekhnologii Group of Companies, and already in September of the same year it was shown to the general public as part of an arms exhibition in Nizhny Tagil. An interesting fact is that, unlike all other arms manufacturers in Russia, this company is financed by private investors.

Of course, the new rifle was not immediately accepted for service. First, numerous tests were carried out in the field. For this purpose, samples were sent to law enforcement agencies, which immediately showed interest in a possible domestic replacement of imported products. FSB, FSO and Ministry of Internal Affairs operatives regularly sent comments to the designers, which allowed the gunsmiths to correct shortcomings and flaws during the development process.

The main inspirer and creator of the sniper rifle called T-5000 ORSIS was gene. director of Promtekhnologii and former professional shooter A. Sorokin. He personally developed the working diagram of ORSIS and its main sketches. A special role in the fate of this weapon was played by the former Vympel operative, and today the general director of TsNIITOCHMASH, D. Semizorov.

In particular, modified samples of the T-5000 were exhibited at the stands of TsNIITOCHMASH in June 2012.

The victory of the FSB Alpha special forces at the World Sniper Shooting Championship, which took place in Hungary, also aroused keen interest in this weapon. Fighters “A” performed on it equipped with an ORSIS rifle.

T-5000 is purchased on a regular basis by Russian security forces. Recently, their foreign colleagues have also begun to take a closer look at it. This rifle entered the army of our country recently, only in 2015. This was due to the status of the manufacturing company.

Unlike Western countries, weapons are supplied to the Russian army from state factories and Promtekhnologiya; this is the only exception so far.

Firing accuracy

As with any rifle, shooting accuracy is influenced by a whole range of factors.

The most important parameters:

  1. Tolerances in the manufacture of the barrel must be minimal - an error of even a micron can significantly reduce shooting accuracy. The ORSIS manufacturer specifically uses the “single-pass cutting” method for processing the barrel.
  2. The bolt must be designed to avoid a click before firing.
  3. Adjustment of the descent should be as smooth and comfortable as possible.
  4. The wear resistance of metal elements is increased by coating with a special ceramic composition.
  5. The cartridges must be heavy - consist of hard metal and have a large mass.

Thanks to the latest manufacturing technologies, the Orsis T-5000 rifle has super-performance. Further upgrades and release of newer modifications are planned. Currently, tuning Orsis is often practiced by installing night vision sights and laser designators, specifically for which the presence of high-precision perforations in the barrel casing is implied.

Varieties of the model

Of course, there are several types of rifles, depending on operating conditions and the desired characteristics of the weapon. Most often, the classification is based on the cartridge used, but this is not one of the characteristics by which Orsis modifications are “divided”.

Possible variations of the basic model:

  1. Caliber classification – .260 Rem, . 308 Win, 6.5x47 Lapua, Magnum .300 Win, .388 Lapua Mag.
  2. Color variations of the design (barrel and stock) - dark gray (Black Graphite), light grayish (Sniper Grey), greenish khaki (Olb Green), beige (Desert Sand).

Different body colors are indispensable for camouflaging the shooter's position, so you should not neglect the opportunity to choose exactly the right shade for a specific landscape or ambush location.

Equipment and cost

The purchased item is transported in a hard plastic case, no matter if it is a rifle, pistol, shotgun or any other carbine from the manufacturer.

The standard delivery includes the following:

  • the rifle itself;
  • weapon passport;
  • warranty card;
  • shooting protocol;
  • bipod;
  • optical sight;
  • compensator brake;
  • shop;
  • a set of keys for adjusting the trigger.

Prices for the rifle are relatively low for a product of such accuracy and reliability. The cost ranges from 250 to 300 thousand rubles.

Among domestic products, Orsis “five thousand” has no analogues, however, the closest versions can be found from foreign manufacturers:

  1. The design and calibers used are very similar to the Austrian sniper SSG-8 (Steyr Mannlicher). It features a bolt action and folding stock made from an aluminum alloy. Weight reaches 5.7 kilograms.
  2. Less similar to the Orsis is the large-caliber (12.7 mm) North American sniper M-93 from Harris Gunwork with manual reloading. This model has an orthopedic wooden butt like the SVD. The total length is 1371 mm, and the weight is more than 10 kilograms. This weapon can be used to conduct targeted fire at a distance of about three kilometers!

The Orsis company itself also has very worthy models in addition to the “five thousandth”, for example, Alpin, AR-10, Hunter-M.

Sniper complex “Accuracy” hits “abroad”

General Director of TsNIITOCHMASH Dmitry Semizorov announced that tests of a sniper rifle with the self-explanatory name “Accuracy” for the Russian Ministry of Defense have been postponed to 2022. The situation is quite unusual.

The rifle is not only ready and demonstrates excellent performance, but its version for the Federal Security Service has successfully passed state tests. It is expected that in the near future a government decree will be signed on the adoption of “Accuracy” into service with the FSO.

The postponement of testing predetermined that the Ministry of Defense requires much more rifles than the FSO.

Therefore, the issue of mass production of weapons is extremely relevant. And here “Precision” has a weak point - it is partially made from imported materials . Therefore, the Ministry of Defense was forced to retroactively make changes to the technical specifications regarding the manufacturing technology of the product. Since the technical specification was issued even before anti-Russian sanctions were introduced.

The “Accuracy” sniper rifle is an atypical product for the domestic defense industry.

Because it is designed and manufactured privately. The company was registered in Moscow in 2011. And initially it was focused on the production of only civilian products - hunting rifles and sporting rifles. For example, at one time the Russian biathlon team competed with its weapons. Soon the T-5000 combat sniper rifle was created. All Promtekhnologii weapons are produced under the ORSIS brand. What does "Weapon Systems" mean?

"Promtekhnologii" is a dwarf enterprise

in comparison with such monsters of the arms industry as the Kalashnikov concern, the Tula Mechanical Engineering Design Bureau, the Kovrov Plant named after. Degtyareva. It employs only 150 people - designers, machine operators, and managers. However, the intellectual potential is not limited to the designers of Promtekhnologiya alone. The company maintains partnerships with a number of research institutes and technical universities, which conduct scientific research and take part in design work on a contractual basis.

At the very beginning, the post of Deputy General Director of Promtekhnologii was held by Alexey Rogozin, the son of the Russian Deputy Prime Minister for defense industry issues. This largely explains the fact that private companies are among the companies allowed to compete for defense orders.

However, under Rogozin Jr., the company only managed to register and “get on its feet.” A year and a half later, he was promoted.

T-5000 belongs to a different class of weapon than SVD

At the beginning of 2012, when information appeared that the T-5000 rifle was applying for entry into the Russian army as a sniper weapon, the fastest and least competent media outlets were full of headlines: “The Rogozin Jr. rifle will replace the Dragunov sniper rifle in the army.” The fact is that Promtekhnologii has much more modest ambitions, and the T-5000 belongs to a different class of weapon than the SVD. And there can be no replacement here, even theoretically.

SVD is a mass-produced weapon with automatic reloading.

This rifle has less range and accuracy. SVD is used by snipers with basic training and little experience. T-500 is a sniper complex for high-precision shooting. This rifle does not have any automatic equipment; reloading is done manually. Due to the fact that precision technologies are used in manufacturing, the weapon is of significantly higher quality. So, when cutting the barrel of a mass-produced weapon, even a sniper, several passes of the cutter are made. The T-5000 barrel is cut in one pass. There is a certain difference in the quality of the materials used - steel for the barrel and for the rifle mechanisms.

There cannot be many high-precision weapons in the regular army for economic reasons. Because it is very expensive compared to weapons that are widely used in the army. There is a civilian model ORTIS SE T-1500 on sale, the cost of which is about 200 thousand rubles.

Combat conditions are different from those that exist in the shooting range

A number of rifles were transferred to units of the Ministry of Defense for trial use in 2013. As military comments accumulated, the designers of Promtekhnologii adjusted the weapons. The main comments were made regarding the “greenhouse” operating conditions. Because the combat conditions are different from those that exist in the shooting range. At the same time, work was carried out to improve shooting qualities, although there were no comments on this part. As a result, a modernized rifle was born, which was called “Accuracy”. It is clear that this is a working name, which does not fit into the army tradition of assigning abbreviations to small arms.

If the T-5000 has a firing range of 1650 meters, then the new model has increased it to 2000 meters. One of the main advantages is the highest accuracy. The maximum deflection of bullets when firing in the absence of wind in the T-5000 is less than half an arc minute, which, as is known, is equal to the sixtieth part of a degree. That is, in a series of 3-5 shots, all bullets end up in a circle with a diameter of 1.3 centimeters for every 100 meters of distance. Accordingly, at a distance of 1000 meters the spread will be about 13 centimeters. The modified rifle has even higher accuracy.

The shooting accuracy is also impressive, which is due to the extremely low manufacturing tolerances of the barrel, literally counting down to microns. As well as low recoil and minimal effort required to press the trigger. At the same time, the sight supplied to Promtekhnologii ensures shooting at any time of the day in any weather conditions.

The designers of Promtekhnologii adhere to conservative views on the design of the rifle. It is a classic - a bolt-action repeating sniper rifle. The company's general director, Alexander Fedotov, claims that the classic scheme is far from exhausted and does not require any original innovations. The quality of shooting should be increased by introducing new technologies - increasing the accuracy of machining, using materials of the highest quality. At the same time, several machines used in the manufacture of weapons were independently created by the company. These include, for example, a barrel cutting machine.

Of course, in order to facilitate the sniper’s work, the weapon must be individualized as much as possible - that is, it must be given the opportunity to “customize” it to the shooter.

The ORTIS rifle has many adjustments both in geometry and in the effort applied by the sniper.

The rifle is chambered for three different cartridges: 7.62x51 mm (.308 Winchester), 7.62x67 mm (.300 Winchester Magnum) and 8.6x70 mm (.338 Lapua Magnum). Barrel length depending on the cartridge used: 508/671/698.5 mm. Length of the rifle when unfolded: 1270/1060/1230 mm. Weight: 6.1/6.3/6.5 kg. Magazine for 5 and 10 rounds. Data on the upgraded rifle, called "Accuracy", has not been reported. But, undoubtedly, if they differ, it will be only slightly.

The T-5000 has already proven itself in sniper business. With its help, Russian sniper teams from various law enforcement agencies won international competitions.

If the new rifle is put into service, it will not replace the SVD, but a weapon similar in purpose and capabilities

In particular, Promtekhnologii is targeting sniper rifles Steyr-Mannlicher SSG-08 purchased in Austria with a manually reloaded sliding bolt with a NATO cartridge of 7.62×51 mm. This rifle has worse range and accuracy than the T-5000. Also, the Finnish sniper rifle Sako TRG-22 has been “registered” in the special forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the FSB, which, with exceeding characteristics, will be replaced by “Accuracy”.

Sako TRG sniper rifle

Steyr-Mannlicher SSG sniper rifle of various modifications

According to experts, the T-5000 is not inferior to the best foreign models, and in some ways it is significantly superior to them.

Thus, the British company Accuracy International, considered a trendsetter in sniper fashion, produces a rifle of the same design with a bolt-action L96A1, which has a maximum firing range with the most powerful cartridge of 1500 meters. At the same time, the accuracy of 7.62 mm cartridges is excellent - 0.4 arc minutes. But with powerful cartridges it increases to 0.7 minutes. The T-5000 has 0.5 minutes. But at the same time, a British rifle costs much more - from 12 to 20 thousand dollars, depending on the modification.

And in conclusion, it is necessary to explain why the general director of NIITOCHMASH is commenting on the situation with the “alien” rifle. The fact is that NIITOCHMASH is the lead developer of the “Ratnik” military equipment. In addition to a suit, body armor, and shoes, the equipment also includes various technical devices, as well as different types of weapons. Moreover, this is not only an individual weapon, but also an “elite” one, issued individually to large units.
