Shotgun Remington 1100 COMPETITION 12/76, gas, wood, barrel 30

The Remington 1100 is a shotgun produced since 1963 that has become a truly iconic weapon. Based on it, a large number of devices have been developed by other companies around the world. The original weapons are produced by the American company Remington and already number more than a million copies. There are several dozen different variations of this model, but many of them are not currently available. All police and military models of shotguns are no longer produced, and the main emphasis is on sporting and hunting weapons. Despite this, the Remington 1100 remained a very popular self-defense shotgun.

Description

The weapon is an upgraded version of the Remington 870 shotgun. Noticing the incredible success of this shotgun, the manufacturers felt that some additions would improve the model. The pump-action reloading system was replaced by a gas engine on the surface of the magazine instead of a moving fore-end, as well as a return spring mounted in the neck of the butt.

The gun began to sell very well among the broad masses of consumers. Moreover, not only hunters bought it, but also civilians for self-defense. The security forces did not ignore the shotgun: the police and even the army used this weapon. This versatility has been achieved through the development of numerous modifications to suit the requirements of different structures. The model has established itself as a reliable weapon with an impeccable conservative design and excellent functionality. During development, special attention was paid to the design, so the clarity of the contours and the overall silhouette of the gun can be considered the fruit of the long work of an entire department. Moreover, it was necessary to fit the entire long history of the Remington company into this design.

Operating principle

To fire a shot, you must first feed the cartridge into the magazine. This is done using a window in the receiver, after moving the elevator lever. Ammunition is stowed after the weapon is set to safety. Having pulled the shutter, you can start shooting.

After the shot, through the holes in the barrel, the released gases move the gas piston with the bolt frame. The spent cartridge case is thrown out, and then another cartridge is fed. The trigger is cocked. The bolt returns to its initial position due to the return spring in the neck of the stock. When moving back, the bolt grabs a new cartridge and then closes the chamber.

Design

The design of the shotgun is not much different from its predecessor. The trigger mechanism is mounted on the receiver. The receiver itself is elegant and ergonomic. It is made of aluminum alloy, which makes the design lighter. The weapon is equipped with a 70 mm chamber. This value is the same for all Remington modifications.

The barrel of this gun is not chrome plated. Despite this, rust resistance is high. The part of the barrel that is inserted into the receiver may differ in length in different modifications. You can install choke constrictions, lengthening the barrel of the gun. Installation of optics on the Remington 1100 is not provided, since the weapon is most effective at close ranges. However, a special rail can be used to attach a red dot sight, which is usually used on shotguns.

The magazine is located directly under the barrel and holds 4 rounds. It is possible to extend the magazine using additional devices. The nut located in the magazine also fixes the position of the barrel. Around the magazine there is a piston, which is a tube. The piston transmits movement to the bolt using two rods. The safety of the system is ensured by a handguard that completely covers the gas engine.

A special feature of the Remington 1100 is that the recoil spring extends into the stock for some length. This eliminates the possibility of upgrading the stock or refusing to use it.

Remington 1100 AMERICAN CLASSIC

The Remington 1100 is also distinguished by the presence of a slide stop, which is activated after all cartridges have been fired. You can remove the delay using a special button located between the cartridge hopper and the trigger guard. The fuse is a pin that moves in a transverse plane and blocks the trigger mechanism. The pin has a hole for a key that locks the gun's mechanisms.

The weapon is famous, there are many different opinions about it, but mostly not bad, and the upgrade possibilities were very attractive. Since there are all kinds of bells and whistles, there’s just plenty to suit any imagination. Having read the Hansa especially the experts

and the specialists, I got the impression that Rem is something crooked like the MP-153, or even worse, and that’s why it’s cheap. In general, I struggled for a long time with the choice of wanting a pump, but my love for semi-automatic devices outweighed it. I looked at Vesa Max Tactics, but it’s somehow impoverished or something, Globalization is its mother in general, it’s ripped off, I wasn’t impressed and it’s not a classic. And then I ran into the Remington 1100 Tactical TAS 4! And I fell in love! I quickly decorated the greenery and it’s mine

Now about the impressions - AWESOME! As always, the Hansa experts and specialists turned out to be wrong, to put it mildly. A neatly made weapon, the receiver is elegant, it is somehow thinner than that of ordinary aluminum guns, it is made of steel, everything is thought out, it works like a watch, the barrel strap is perfect, no blockages, etc. Mine is parquet, there are no gaps at the butt and forend, the plastic is pleasant with a pronounced notch. It is easy to disassemble, many solutions I would call ingenious. Included are narrowings and replaceable light-accumulating front sights of different shapes and colors! The gun is practical and not heavy.

As far as tuning is concerned, I limited myself to removing the magazine extension, since I often go hunting and there are 8 rounds, why don’t you need the extra weight, but the balance has improved dramatically and has become ideal and the installation of a stock with a pistol from Meza Tactical. Well, classic butts don’t suit me! Not comfortable for the right hand. At the shooting range, Rem showed excellent results shooting with a 32 gr Gualandi bullet up to 100 m and evenly spraying shot

Advantages and disadvantages

The advantage of the Remington 1100 is the reliability of this gun, which has been tested more than once in different circumstances. The materials used are high quality and durable. The modernized bolt cylinder made it possible to lighten the device using aluminum alloy as the receiver material.

The weapon is also considered universal. The list of ammunition that can be used is very extensive. The gun fires 12-gauge or 20-gauge cartridges. The choke constrictions are attached using threads, which allows you to quickly change attachments. The hit accuracy is very impressive. The gun shows good results when shooting a Gualandi bullet up to 100 meters.

Remington 1100 Tac-4

A huge advantage of the Remington 1100 is the saturation of the market with all kinds of spare parts, modifications and components for this weapon. The shutter handles and fuses are not difficult to get.

The disadvantages of the model include:

  • Non-chromed barrel. However, this is a very controversial point: it is known that barrels not coated with chrome have greater destructive power.
  • Impossibility of tuning the gun in the butt area.
  • Regular cleaning of the magazine is required, as combustion products often accumulate there after a shot.
  • The relatively short length of the chamber limits the scope of use of the gun.

Hello! According to a police report released after the high-profile case, the musician committed suicide with a Remington 11 20-gauge semi-automatic shotgun, which is still kept as evidence at the police station. Whether it is a sports model is unknown. But it's definitely the same line of shotguns that have been popular in the US for 30 years.

Specifications

Let's look at the technical characteristics of the most common modification of the shotgun, called the Remington 1100 American Classic.

The weapon is a self-loading shotgun with a smooth, cold-forged barrel.

  • caliber: 12th and 20th;
  • chamber length: 70 mm;
  • barrel length: 711 mm;
  • magazine capacity: 4 rounds;

Remington 1100 SPORTING SERIES

Modifications

The popularity of the shotgun forced manufacturers to develop Remington models for various purposes. Today the following varieties are considered the most common:

Competition and Competition Synthetic Both versions differ from the standard model primarily in the material of the stock. In the first case, it is made of walnut, and in the second, of plastic. The modification is a sports model with an elongated barrel and an adjustable butt plate length. The barrel is blued and the receiver is nickel.

Classic Trap Classic Trap is also a sporting gun. The semi-pistol stock is made of walnut wood. The barrel is extended.

Sporting Series Sports weapon with a short barrel. Length does not exceed 28 inches. The range of possible calibers has been expanded to include 28 and .410. The stock is made of walnut, and the receiver is blued.

TAC-4 The model is intended for law enforcement units. The stock is plastic. A special feature is the possibility of expanding the store twice. Thus, the magazine can hold 8 rounds, which is the maximum number for all Remington 1100 models. Only with the original gun are narrowings and replaceable light-accumulating front sights included.

Police A type of gun that is currently not in the campaign catalog. However, a fair number of such guns were produced. The weapon is distinguished by a pistol grip connected to the butt. The body is made of high-strength polymers, and the magazine capacity varies from 4 to 8 rounds. The model is intended for use by law enforcement agencies, in particular, some police units were equipped with it.

200th Anniversary LTD Modernized Remington, released for the anniversary. Features additional finishing of gun parts. The stock is made of the highest quality black walnut. The use of only 12-gauge cartridges is provided.

As you can see, many solutions prefer to abandon the use of several types of ammunition for the sake of reliability and functionality. Remington 1100 uses 12 gauge for a reason. This is perhaps the most common and convenient type of ammunition.

Description of Remington 1100

A semi-automatic smoothbore shotgun, the design of which is based on the Remington 870 model - a weapon with a pump-action reloading principle. Instead of a movable forend, a gas engine is installed on the outer surface of the magazine, and a return spring is mounted in the neck of the stock.

The Remington 1100 is reviewed in this video:

Advantages and disadvantages

  • Reliable design - the gun takes all types of ammunition and has good workmanship.
  • The bolt cylinder is composite - it has a swinging part, which, when locking the barrel bore, is hooked by a tooth onto a cutout in the breech shank. This made it possible to use aluminum alloys in the design of the receiver, making the gun lighter.
  • The basic American Classic model is very beautiful, with a gold-checkered engraved receiver and premium American walnut stock with impeccable finishing.
  • In accordance with American fashion, the 16th gauge, which is considered universal in Russia, was omitted. The set of proposals consists of the 12th, traditionally related to magnums, and the 20th, which is not widely used in our country.
  • It is possible to install replaceable choke constrictions. They are screwed to the muzzle, lengthening the barrel. The advantage of this design is a simpler algorithm of use: if the thread does not jam, then you can change the nozzle without a key.
  • Currently released only for the domestic North American market. In Russia you can only find a commission version with a large shot.
  • The barrels are non-chromed, but the corrosion resistance is quite high.
  • Due to the location of the recoil spring in the neck of the stock, it is impossible to modernize the weapon by making the stock folding or replacing it with a pistol grip.
  • The surface of the magazine in contact with the vented powder gases is not protected by anything, so it requires a lot of attention and regular cleaning. The gas engine itself is quite simple, it consists of a piston and two sealing rings, so there have been no complaints about its operation over the entire production period of the gun (more than 50 years).

Compared to the Russian Bekas-Auto, the gun is heavier - with the same barrel length by 250 grams. This is a minor difference, but it will have a noticeable effect if you spend a whole day in the field. In addition, the functionality of the American lacks a cartridge interceptor lever, which allows you to instantly change the type of ammunition loaded.

Purpose

  • This is a weapon for feather hunting, as well as for target shooting.
  • In the past, models were produced that were used by police officials and used for self-defense. They were distinguished by a shortened barrel and a pistol grip stock.

Under number 1100, Remington also has a sample with the Tactical designation, but it differs significantly from the previously indicated models, both in functionality and in essence.
