What can our light side shoot from in airsoft? Part 5.1. Bolts.

Hi all! In the previous parts of the article we discussed most of the weapons of the light side, sniper rifles are coming.

Since we have plenty of sniper rifles, and we don’t want to stretch the articles to the point of being unreadable, we’ll start the analysis with bolt-action sniper rifles.

Bolt-action sniper rifles appeared on the light side not too long ago. In this article I wanted to look at the SV-98

and
T-5000 "Orsis"
, but
"Orsis"
is now a custom from
"Antisniper"
, so we will discuss it in the planned part about custom.

A little historical information: SV-98 (GRAU Index - 6B10)

- Russian repeating sniper rifle, created in 1998-2000.
by a team of designers led by Vladimir Dmitrievich Stronsky and mass-produced by the Izhmash
. Designed to defeat emerging, moving, open and unmasked, unprotected and equipped with personal armor protection enemy personnel at a range of up to 1000 m.

In 2000, a prototype of the SV-98M-338

chambered for .338 Lapua Magnum In 2010, a small-scale production of a civilian modification of the rifle began under the name
KO-13 “Record”
(there is no mount for a silencer on the barrel).
In 2013, Izhmash
modernized the rifle.
Unlike its predecessor, the modernized SV-98
received a new ergonomic stock made of duralumin alloy.
In 2014, at the Eurosatory-2014
in Paris, a demonstration sample of another version of
the SV-98
- with a lightweight skeleton-type stock, an adjustable black plastic stock, folding bipod and a
DH 3-12x50
with a removable thermal imaging attachment
. Dedal-TA2"
Currently, the
Kalashnikov
is mass-producing an updated version of the
SV-98
with a new aluminum stock, which has a folding adjustable stock and a Picatinny rail on the receiver for installing optical and night sights.

So, SV-98

in airsoft version.
Let's start with the “folk” version from ASR
.

The principle of operation is spring (before each shot you need to manually cock the spring). The stock can be adjusted in length and height for greater ease of use of the rifle.

20 years later. Sniper rifle SV-98 for the Russian Guard

The Kalashnikov Concern announced the conclusion of a contract with the Russian Guard for the supply of 26 SV-98 sniper rifles. This model was developed in the late 90s of the last century at Izhmash and adopted by the Russian Defense Ministry with a wooden stock (laminate). The basis for the SV-98 was the 7.62-mm Record-CISM sports rifle (1995), which, in turn, was built on the basis of the standard Record-CISM sports rifle of the 1972 model.

The 7.62-mm SV-98 sniper rifle with a wooden stock was adopted by the Russian Defense Ministry in 2003. It was equipped with a removable carrying handle and a folding bipod, which was retracted into the cutout of the forend in the transport position. Image from calibr.ucoz.ru

Almost from the very beginning of the military life of the rifle, after its adoption in the early 2000s, Izhmash indicated its intention to notice the problematic “wood” on the polymer, however, this was hampered by organizational and management problems.

As a result (every cloud has a silver lining), in 2013 a more progressive version with an aluminum alloy stock appeared at the reformed enterprise. Over the course of five years, the aluminum stock has undergone some changes and is now part of the basic configuration of the rifle, already produced by the Kalashnikov concern.

Despite the obvious and not-so-obvious questions about the rifle, it definitely can shoot great and in terms of ease of use it is significantly superior to the SV-98 of the late 90s, which itself shoots great when properly configured. The basis for this statement is my personal experience of shooting with a basic (old) rifle and many years of observation of several of its civilian variants. In particular, with the 7N1 sniper cartridge, a well-maintained SV-98 in the “tree” is capable of shooting not the notorious “minute”, but at a distance of 100 m it “ties” groups of 3-5 hits into one continuous hole on the target. There is no reason to think that the rifle shoots worse in aluminum.

PMS rifle SV-98 of the old model with an attached anti-mirage screen

By the way, for admirers of modern trends, which now include all kinds of “silencers,” it would not hurt to remind that Izhevsk designers already in the mid-90s created a rifle with a low-noise firing device (PMS / tactical silencer) and it was in this configuration that the SV-98 was adopted into service with the Russian army 15 years ago. Moreover, even then the PMS SV-98 was equipped with a removable thermal shield, which improved aiming conditions when the device was heated.

It is a little strange that the Russian Guard ordered a rifle with a 1P69 “Hyperon” sight (on the website kalashnikov.media it is called “Hyperion” - this is incorrect), since this device does not quite correspond to modern high-precision shooting techniques and is more suitable for a trench sniper rifle of the SVD type. Perhaps it is the “Hyperon” configuration that explains the discrepancy between the description of the rifle - “...designed to hit emerging, moving, open and camouflaged single targets at ranges up to 1000 m...” with the target range stated in the specifications - 600 m.

The description and characteristics of the modern SV-98 can be found on the website kalashnikov.media.

Modernization of airsoft replicas

Immediately after the first battle, the newcomer understands that the drive with the basic configuration is inferior to similar replicas of its older comrades. Most often, according to such parameters as range of destruction, accuracy of hitting the target, rate of fire. The reason is that the simulations of experienced players have undergone a process of improvement (tuning).

The Airsoft-Station online store offers for sale spare parts from domestic and foreign manufacturers for internal tuning of airsoft weapons in an assortment at an adequate price. In addition to modification of drives, the presented spare parts (sets, individual units) are in demand for scheduled repairs - replacing worn out or failed elements with new parts.

Tip #1.

When tuning the drive, as well as replacing failed parts, you should know that the elements must fit together perfectly. In other words, correspond to the replica modification, gearbox version, etc. You can get expert advice on choosing parts by calling 8 (800) 777 38 58.

Izhevsk weapons. Sniper rifle "SV-98"

The SV-98 sniper rifle was developed by the chief designer department of Izhmash Concern OJSC, a team of authors led by Vladimir Stronsky, on the basis of the 7.62 mm Record-CISM sports rifle.
Externally and structurally, the new model borrows a lot from the high-quality sports rifle Record-308-SIZM. The SV-98 is designed to destroy enemy personnel appearing, moving, open and unmasked, unprotected and equipped with personal armor protection at a range of up to 1000 m.

The SV-98 is a non-automatic repeating rifle designed according to a classic layout.

The barrel together with the chamber is made by horizontal cold forging from a single piece. The SV-98 barrel is cold forged using the latest technology on GFM machines from an Austrian company from the city of Steyr. The entire forging process is controlled by a computer program. Even the installation of the barrel blank and the removal of the barrel is carried out automatically, using a robot. After forging and the necessary holding time (the barrel must “settle” to remove the intracrystalline stresses created during forging), the barrel bore is honed, and only then goes for heat treatment. The barrel bore is not chrome-plated, which, although it reduces its survivability, significantly increases the accuracy of fire - ranging from 60 to 70 mm when firing in groups of 10 shots at 300 meters. The barrel is connected to the rectangular box using four pins. This entire structure is attached to the cradle with two screws. The barrel remains freely suspended. A floating barrel is a common solution for precision weapons. The barrel has a place for attaching a muzzle brake or muffler. The trigger force is adjustable.

The muzzle can be equipped with a muffler. If this is not necessary, a protective sleeve is screwed onto the barrel. The peculiarity of this unusual-looking bushing is that, thanks to the peculiarity of the thread, it creates a certain tension at the muzzle, which improves the accuracy of the fire. Accuracy, by the way, improves when using a muffler. As an alternative to both the muffler and the bushing, a flame arrester can be installed. The muffler is designed to reduce the level of unmasking of the sniper and completely suppress the muzzle flame. It is also important that the silencer does not impair the accuracy of fire and reduces recoil energy by about 30%, which makes shooting from a rifle more comfortable.

The bolt has three lugs. The trigger mechanism is of a sport type, with adjustable trigger force. The safety on the SV-98 is a two-position one, located in the receiver, closer to its tail, on the right side, behind the bolt handle. It blocks both the trigger and the shutter travel at the same time. Fire type: single. Reloading is manual.

Food is supplied from a box-shaped detachable 10-place magazine; on its left wall there are holes with markings, by which the sniper can determine the amount of ammunition at his disposal. The magazine has a guide mechanism that facilitates its attachment in a combat situation and “in the blind.” The magazine travel is straight, and not like the SVD with a turn from the hook towards the latch. The rifle's magazine is double-row, cast from glass-filled polyamide with metal inserts. The usual prismatic or leaf spring is replaced by a lever element consisting of 4 levers connected by axes in pairs in the center. The magazine in the front part is mounted on a rack, which is pressed into the receiver. A latch with a spring is mounted in the rack, which, when the magazine is attached, engages with a metal sleeve reinforced in the opening of the magazine body and tightly presses the magazine itself to the receiver. This ensures simple, stable and reliable mounting of the magazine on the rifle.

The rifle is standardly equipped with open sights - a front sight in the front sight and an adjustable rear sight. The front sight (adjustable vertically and horizontally) and the rear sight are of an open type with a distance scale from 100 to 600 m in increments of every 100 m. The base of the front sight is of an original design, but the front sight itself and the rear sighting device are completely borrowed from the SVD. However, unlike the Dragunov rifle, the SV-98 has a different optical sight mounting system. In the SV-98, the sight is mounted on top directly to the box using a device commonly known as a “dovetail.” The box carries an upper mounting rail for sights. This could be a 7-fold PKS-07, or a more powerful pancratic “Hyperon”, designed according to the 3-10X42 scheme. For night operations, the rifle is equipped with a whole range of night vision devices.

The forend of the SV-98 rifle has two oblong ventilation holes. The pistol grip is made with a notch. The stock is fully adjustable and tailored to the individual ergonomic characteristics of the shooter. For this purpose, a lifting cheek and a movable butt plate are provided. The rifle is equipped with an adjustable wooden stock (the position of the butt plate and the position of the cheek rest are adjustable). In the front part of the stock there is a mount for a folding bipod.

The SV-98 sniper rifle is designed for different types of ammunition, both domestic and foreign manufacturers.

The usual equipment of the rifle includes a low-noise firing device (LMD), a belt and carrying handle, an anti-mirage belt and a reflector visor on the silencer, a set of cleaning accessories and a bracket for an optical sight.

There is a variant of the rifle with a popular in the world and a NATO standard, the “Piccatini” rail, also called “Weaver rail” (“wr” - “Weaver guide”).

The rifle has high accuracy and good consistent accuracy. At a distance of 300 m, it fires groups of 10 shots each (cartridges of at least “Extra” class) into a circle with a diameter of 55 mm. Using a standard sniper cartridge, the shooter can easily place all the shots in a circle with a diameter of 120-130 mm at 300 m. An experienced sniper is able to hit a tall target at a distance of up to 1200 m with the first shot.

The SV-98 sniper rifle has passed all certification tests, has been used in real combat operations and is in service with special forces units of the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the FSB - where high precision fire is required.
