Vepr super 308 tuning weight reduction

The silencer for the Vepr 308 will be of interest primarily to those who do not want to make too much noise while hunting. Vepr 308 is rarely taken for practical shooting and for shooting at banks, because for these tasks there are more suitable options with budget ammunition and a wide range of tuning. AK lovers most likely will not buy the Vepr 308 for the sake of a collection of AK-shaped ones, because this carbine very vaguely resembles a Kalashnikov assault rifle. As a result, the vast majority of those who buy silencers for Vepr 308 from us are hunters. And very often orders come from the northern part of Russia - from where the nature is truly harsh and where things are valued not for the promotion of the brand, not for the glamor of the packaging, but for reliability, which makes all the difference in wild conditions. This is why the Rotor 43 silencers for the Vepr 308 are rated among real Siberian hunters: a steel or titanium welded body, no savings on materials and processing - this is exactly what makes the Rotor 43 silencers for the Vepr 308 and other weapons extremely reliable.

Released modifications

Since the serial production of the “Vepr” in 1995 by the “Molot” plant, several more modifications of this weapon have been produced, each of them has its own characteristics.

The SOK-95M “Vepr-308 Super” deserves special mention; the main changes in it affected the stock. She became whole. For production, beech or walnut wood is used.

The entire product has acquired a softer and more streamlined shape. Such a sharp change in appearance contributed to the perception of this weapon as a hunting weapon, and not a conversion from the PKK. This also led to a weight reduction of 100 grams.

The changes also affected the carbine barrel. It became more powerful, which led to an increase in the accuracy and range of an effective shot. The increase in mass was avoided by longitudinal valleys. The MTC (muzzle brake-compensator) has also been improved. It was combined with a flame arrester.

This reduced recoil and avoided temporary blinding in poor visibility conditions after the shot. The mount for optical sights has been moved to the gas box, which is a drawback (the aiming line has decreased).

The fuse was also redesigned. It's now push-button. It has become more convenient to use and, unlike the old flag-type one, it is almost silent.

A new type of magazine has also appeared - for 3 rounds.

The Vepr-308 Super carbine also has its own separate model range:

  • SOK-95M “Vepr-308 Super” – chambered for 7.62x51;
  • SOK-95MS “Vepr-308 Super Sport” (Production discontinued.) – uses 7.62x51 stock;
  • SOK-35 “Vepop-35 Sport” – uses .35 Remington ammunition. Also no longer produced.

Which muffler is suitable for Vepr 308

The main difficulty in selecting a silencer for the Vepr 308 is that the Vepr 308 is not a weapon model, but a whole family of models united only by manufacturer and caliber. If you go to the official website, you will find a huge number of Boar models with .308Win caliber with a wide variety of muzzle and front sight options.

Thus, it turns out that both the owner of the common SOK-95, SOK-95M, and the owner of VPO-101, VPO-101M, VPO-114, VPO-127 and even VPO-157-02 or VPO can look for a silencer for their Vepr 308 -157-07... The Vepr line in 308 caliber does not end there, new models appear, we are reminded of the old Veprs and so on. In addition, according to owners, the mounting of a standard flame arrester on the same model may vary depending on the year of manufacture. For example, where there was previously an interference fit with a pin, a thread may appear. Or the diameter of the seat may change in any year of production. Therefore, before ordering the Rotor 43 muffler for the Vepr 308, make sure that it will fit with a thread or a non-threaded fastening method. To do this, look at the passport of your Boar if we are talking about threaded fastening or contact us through the CONTACTS page.

Long distance setting

After this “rough” adjustment, you have achieved accurate fire at a distance of 50-100 meters. However, no one shoots from rifled weapons at such distances; this is the lot of smooth-bore weapons - shotguns and slug guns. From rifled rifles, fire is usually fired at a distance of 200-300 meters. Therefore, you must make a “finish” zero at the distance at which you actually intend to shoot.

Zeroing an optical sight on a carbine at the “finishing” distance is carried out in exactly the same way as described above. However, keep in mind that the click price in this case will be different, and you will have to adjust it by trial and error. Using this method, achieve accurate fire at your chosen distance.

Description of the Vepr-223 carbine

The hunting rifle is a basic model in .223 rem caliber, released in 1998. The appearance of this model is no different from the Vepr-308 carbines that were released earlier. This modification is considered the simplest and most versatile in the series. Its main advantage is its low price.

Design features of Vepr-223 are as follows:

  • The forend is made of wood;
  • Machine gun type sights;
  • Possibility of installing an optical sight;
  • Case and belt included.

Although high-quality foreign-made .223 rem cartridges are quite expensive, you can find good domestic ammunition of the same caliber. Ammunition, as a rule, is selected empirically, by shooting several boxes of cartridges from different manufacturers. A hunting carbine built on the basis of the RPK is not distinguished by legibility, so the main criterion when choosing should be accuracy.

Magazines for Vepr-223 come in 5 and 10 rounds. There is also an interesting version for 10 rounds, which looks exactly like the standard one. Although in Russia it is prohibited to hunt with magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, you can have them in stock. Alternatively, you can buy an export one, which is designed for 30 or 45 rounds, but for hunting it should be loaded with no more than 10 rounds. Or you can try converting a magazine from an AK-74.

Vepr-223 can be used for the following types of shooting:

  • Hunting for small and medium animals. Just don’t shoot at long distances, this is not a sniper rifle, or even a bolt-action carbine;
  • Entertaining target shooting. In recent years, there has been a steady trend towards development in the field of shooting ranges and ranges;
  • Training in shooting from this type of weapon. Since this caliber has low recoil, it is ideal for a beginning shooter.

When shooting from a carbine, you must follow safety precautions.

Technical characteristics of Vepr-223 are as follows:

  • For shooting, .223 rem caliber ammunition is used;
  • Magazines (standard) for 5 or 10 rounds;
  • Firing efficiency is guaranteed by the manufacturer at a distance of up to 300 meters. This does not mean that you should shoot at such distances. After 100 meters, the accuracy drops significantly, so the recommended distance for effective shooting usually does not exceed 150 meters;
  • The weight of the weapon is 4.2 kg, which is too much for a small-caliber weapon, so not every hunter can use this weapon for running hunts;
  • Barrel length varies depending on modifications. It can be from 42 to 590 mm.

Due to the differences in dimensions, you can choose a weapon that is most suitable for specific tasks. For example, to protect property it is better to use shortened versions, while for hunting it is better to choose a model with the longest barrel.

How does Vepr-308 Super differ from the standard model?

In order for the new rifle unit to qualify as a hunting weapon rather than a combat weapon, the designers had to make a number of changes to some technical components. According to experts, the firing mode system in the SOC has been changed. Thus, it became impossible to fire in bursts from a carbine. It has a solid stock, which is made of beech or walnut wood. In addition, the developers changed the design of the stock, as a result of which the shooting unit became more like a hunting one than a combat one.

By using longitudinal lobes in the design of the weapon, the creators managed to reduce the weight of the carbine to 3900 g. In an effort to make shooting more accurate and efficient, the SOK “308 Super” barrels are produced more powerful. The muzzle-braking compensator is used as a flash suppressor. Due to the design solutions taken in the “308 Super” carbine, recoil is significantly reduced. Judging by consumer reviews, when using hunting weapons at night, the blinding of the shooter is minimized as much as possible.

In SOK “308 Super” the designers installed fasteners for optical sights on the gas chamber. As a result, the aiming line was shortened. There are no sharp or catchy elements on the body that complicate the hunting process. Instead of a safety catch for the carbine “Super. 308” was designed as a push-button, located above the trigger guard. As a result of improvements, activation and deactivation are much quieter. The shooter does not have to remove his hand from the stock to press the button. Ammunition can be supplied from either 10-, 5-, or 3-round magazines.

Elimination of defects

To eliminate the consequences of the negligence of Molot workers in assembling the Vepr-223 carbine, it is not at all necessary to acquire a set of tools for fine work. Most imperfections can be removed with a file and sandpaper. In some cases, epoxy resin may be required. Here are recommendations for bringing your weapon to perfection:

  1. Stock problems can be resolved by tightening the mounting bolts more tightly. If this doesn't help, you can take a drill and create a new hole for the screw. As an alternative, you can use epoxy resin, but this method is not 100% guaranteed.
  2. Rear sight unevenness can be corrected by gluing a new flywheel to the rear sight strip. It is also recommended to remove the standard sighting device and replace it with at least cheap optics, since the combat adjustment mechanism of the rear sight constantly clings to branches.
  3. Unevenness in the forend can be eliminated by sanding the wood with sandpaper. If the shape suits you, but you are only worried about slipping, then it will be enough to apply a notch to the varnish using a file.
  4. The problem with a sticking trigger can be solved only after completely disassembling the trigger mechanism. It is important to carefully inspect all the parts, and then sand those that seem uneven with sandpaper and a file.

But there is no doubt about the automation of the Vepr-223. The most important thing is to prevent dirt from getting inside the weapon, and also not to forget about the timely removal of lead deposits not only from the barrel, but also from the bolt frame and gas chamber.

Preparation

First of all, you need to select and equip your shooting location in such a way as to minimize aiming errors. It should be taken into account that the shooting area must have a sufficient amount of light.

You can make targets for shooting rifled weapons yourself. To do this, take whatman paper and draw diagonals through it to determine its center. Then, using a compass, draw a circle with a diameter of 25 cm. Hang the target at a distance of 100 meters. You need to shoot in a prone position so that the shots are as accurate as possible. Since in a prone position you will move the gun less.

General description of Vepr-223 carbines

The production of hunting carbines Vepr-223 (SOK-97) is carried out by Vyatsko-Polyansky. The first carbine was released in 1998. This weapon quickly gained popularity among hunters in Russia and the CIS, who previously preferred domestic small-caliber rifles when hunting. The .223 rem cartridge, despite its small caliber, belongs to a completely different class of ammunition. The distance at which these ammunition are effective can be 2-3 times greater than conventional 5.6 mm cartridges.

Currently, Vyatsko-Polyansky produces the following modifications of the Vepr carbine:

  • The standard hunting carbine Vepr-223, which is the base model of the entire line. Its production began in 1998;
  • Vepr Pioneer-223 - this modification appeared a year after the release of the base model;
  • Vepr Super-223 - a model that began production in 2000, is distinguished by a different stock shape and an orthopedic butt. In addition, the build quality differs from the classic one for the better;
  • Vepr-1V-223 - this model is very similar to the classic RPK.

Among these models, any hunter will choose a modification that is right for him. All carbines have fairly stable accuracy at a distance of 100 meters. Although you shouldn’t expect high accuracy rates at long distances from the Vepr in any caliber. The Kalashnikov light machine gun is not a sniper rifle, and its development was carried out for completely different purposes.

The Vepr-223 design is based on the RPK. All components, mechanisms and operating principles of the carbines are almost identical to the RPK. This is due to the fact that for a long time he was engaged in the production of Kalashnikov light machine guns. It was logical to establish the production of hunting weapons on the basis of this particular military weapon.

Zeroing a rifled gun without an optical sight

At the first stage, you should fire 3 shots at the center of the target. The resulting 3 traces will be the vertices of an imaginary triangle. After which you will need to determine the center of the imaginary triangle. This can be done either visually or by drawing lines from each vertex of the triangle to the center of the opposite side. The intersection points will be our center.

The distance from the center of the triangle to the center of the target is the deviation of the average point of impact. This is exactly what we need to eliminate. The deviation is eliminated by moving the front sight or rear sight. The adjustment method depends on the design of the aiming mechanism.

For example, if the center of the triangle is to the right of the center of the target, the front sight should be thrown a little to the right. If the aiming center is to the left, the front sight should be moved to the left accordingly. If the center of the triangle is higher or lower, the front sight must be raised or lowered.

Sometimes there are situations when all 3 shots miss the target. In this case, the gun sight is not adjusted at all. In order to determine possible deviation, shots should be repeated from a distance of 50 meters. After you zero your weapon at 100 meters, it is recommended to zero it at 200 meters in the same way.

When shooting, weather conditions should also be taken into account. For example, even a slight wind can change the trajectory of a bullet by more than a meter, and low temperatures cause the bullet to drop slightly. Therefore, it is recommended to zero in rifled weapons in the calm, at average temperatures.

Operation and Maintenance

As reviews indicate, Vepr-308 should be lubricated without fanaticism. Excess lubricant negatively affects the operation of the automation. Before the cleaning process, the rags are soaked and thoroughly wrung out. These recommendations are relevant when hunting in weather down to -40 degrees. If the temperature exceeds 25-30 degrees in the positive range, the amount of lubricant can be increased. Experienced users recommend using diesel engine oil as the maintenance material.

The accuracy of the weapon in question is not bad, higher than that of many competitors. The spread of ammunition is 80 millimeters from a distance of 100 meters. Refinement of the product and the use of an optical sight will improve the indicator. The loaded weight of the gun is four kilograms. It is worth noting that the quality of the standard belt leaves much to be desired. It is advisable to additionally purchase a tarpaulin analogue with special fasteners. It is recommended to protect the flame arrester from moisture and snow, as this causes corrosive processes.

Description

"Vepr-308" is a domestic carbine designed for 7.62/51 mm cartridges. Among foreign ammunition, the analogue is Winchester-308. The weapon in question has a simple, reliable design, high firing efficiency and an affordable price, taking into account the capabilities of the domestic market.

The gun earned its popularity due to its high power rating. The design features of this model make it possible to operate it in low temperature conditions and hunt such large animals as elk and bear. Decent strength and resistance to external influences are achieved due to the basic configuration characteristic of a Kalashnikov assault rifle. Thanks to this, this weapon has clear advantages among analogues in its class. The designers made changes to the combat version so that the Vepr-308 was positioned as a hunting rifle. For example, they eliminated the possibility of firing in bursts, changed the shape of the butt, and made the fore-end semi-open.

general information

The history of these weapons began in the early 90s, when government orders for weapons factories began to decline and it was necessary to find other sources of livelihood.

At that time, many enterprises of this kind began to develop hunting weapons for the needs of the domestic market and for export. VPMZ “Molot” was no exception.

The design group of this plant, consisting of P. Mokrushin, V. Lyamin, A. Kabatchikov and other gunsmiths, presented their carbine. It was based on a simple and reliable RPK system, chambered for a 7.62 mm caliber cartridge, but was deprived of a number of components, in particular allowing automatic fire. The model was given the name SOK-94 “Vepr-308”.

The new product instantly gained popularity among hunters. Reliability, lethality, low price - all these qualities were combined in the Vepr-308 carbine. Seeing such a stir, work on improving the rifle continued.

They released a separate modification for the NATO .308 cartridge (7.62x51).

This model was called SOK-95.

After finishing the shooting

After zeroing the gun is completed, you should align the first division of the vertical drum and the zero division of the horizontal adjustments with the marks at the base of the drum. To do this, loosen the screws and align the scales with the marks.

When shooting at longer distances, the adjustment drum must be rotated so that the crosshair moves down. It is also recommended to remember what division you need to set the drum when shooting at long distances.

If the scope has been removed, be sure to carry out a shooting test before going out hunting. If you do not have this opportunity, you can check the optical sight with an open sight. To do this, find a target at a distance of no closer than 100 meters and compare the open and optical sights. If the aiming points coincide, then everything is in order. It should be noted that open and optical sights must be set at the same shooting distance.

Types of optical sights

An optical sight is a long-focus lens with a wrapping system, an eyepiece, a mechanism for entering corrections and an aiming reticle, mounted on the rifle barrel. The main purpose of the device is to increase the accuracy of shooting at stationary or inactive objects that are located at a considerable distance from the shooter.

When choosing such devices, it is necessary to take into account many factors, the main of which is the type of weapon. The second important factor is the type of device. Currently, the optical sight for a carbine has two main types:

  1. Devices with constant multiplicity. They are distinguished by high reliability and a clearer picture, since they contain a minimum number of lenses; the most common are four- and eight-fold models.
  2. Pancratic devices, or devices with variable magnification. They allow you to adapt the sight to different distances, increase image sharpness in poor lighting, but are less reliable and more expensive. There are devices of large (up to 10x), medium (up to 9x) and small magnification (up to 6x).

The remaining classifications, with the help of which one can distinguish one optical sight for a carbine from another, can be considered insignificant, since they do not significantly change the characteristics of the device.

Description Vepr-223 Pioneer

Vepr-223 Pioneer is a more expensive modification of the carbine in .223 rem caliber. It has been produced since 1999. This model is significantly lighter in weight than the basic Vepr model. Weight of 3.6 kg allows us to recommend this carabiner for women and teenagers.

The main differences of this model are as follows:

  • The stock is made of high quality walnut;
  • Monte Carlo type stock;
  • The receiver is significantly lighter;
  • The trigger mechanism is made on a separate base.

In general, this model is quite well assembled and is recommended for short-range shooting. Thanks to the build quality, Pioneer is successfully sold in the USA and some European countries.

Advantages and disadvantages

Since it is the comparison of the advantages of this model and its shortcomings with similar models from third-party manufacturers that allows us to get the most detailed picture, the list of main parameters makes it possible to study the model in question. For active use, the most popular, according to the majority of buyers and owners, are variants of modern carabiners with relatively low weight and compact dimensions, which greatly facilitates the process of transporting and using them.

Ergonomic shape, the ability to improve the weapon by installing additional equipment and the simplicity of the device, which allows you to quickly and without much difficulty disassemble the carbine. It is these characteristics that are considered one of the most important for any model that is used both in professional hunting and for accuracy training.

The advantages of the Vepr Hunter model include the following characteristics:

  • compact size, which allows both men and women not to feel inconvenience when using the carabiner;
  • relatively light weight, facilitating transportation;
  • opportunities for tuning;
  • good basic equipment, which makes it possible to get maximum aim of each shot.

The cost of the model makes it affordable for most buyers, and the owners note that the Vepr Hunter carbine, having an attractive “appearance”, has proven itself to be excellent when used in hunting, in sport shooting competitions and for entertainment.

Advantages and disadvantages

The Vepr-308 rifle chambered for 7.62/51 has a number of advantages, namely:

  • the caliber of cartridges makes it possible to hunt large animals;
  • small recoil practically does not affect the accuracy of the shot;
  • firing distance is up to 300 meters;
  • high accuracy rate, and the characteristic does not change with 6-7 salvos;
  • the accuracy parameter has been improved thanks to an increased sight line;
  • The standard sighting mechanism is compatible with optics of various configurations;
  • large supply of working life of the main elements;
  • uninterrupted operation in difficult weather conditions;
  • acceptable price.

Despite the fact that this weapon has many advantages, the Vepr-308 also has its disadvantages. These include:

  • relatively heavy weight and solid overall dimensions;
  • not very good balancing;
  • insufficient quality of processing of wooden parts;
  • excessive volume of the flag when switching;
  • damage to the sight when the product falls;
  • disassembling the gas chamber, which causes some inconvenience;
  • significant time costs for thorough cleaning of the gas compartment.

Design features

The automatic operation of the rifle in question functions flawlessly. The large reserve of working life is confirmed by the fact that there are no misfires even after 500 salvos. Experts advise cleaning the gas piston immediately after shooting, since after a few hours it will be problematic to put it in order.

The barrel channel of the Vepr-308 carbine is made with high quality; the disadvantages include peeling of the chrome-plated protective coating after 200-300 shots. In many respects, the service life of a weapon depends on the care of its owner. It needs to be cleaned and lubricated regularly. A standard cleaning rod is not suitable for maintenance; it is better to purchase a special analogue with a rotating handle.

Removal of carbon deposits and dirt is carried out using cotton paper tape. For example, the one that is used to insulate the windings of electric motors. The material is cut into strips and wrapped around a cleaning rod. The white color of the paper makes it possible to control the quality of cleaning. If after the next approach the tape remains clean, the process can be considered successful.

Operating principle and disassembly

The Vepr-308 carbine (520 mm barrel) operates on the principle of mechanically chambering a cartridge into the clip compartment using a return spring. In addition, there is a simultaneous locking of the channel socket of the barrel due to the reverse spring return. The trigger is brought into the release state by pressing the trigger with your finger. After an intense blow to the die and piercing the primer, a shot occurs.

Disassembly of the weapon, preventive inspection and lubrication is carried out exclusively in a discharged state, without cartridges in the barrel. The stages of all operations are described in the instructions included in the kit. Accordingly, the assembly is carried out in a mirror order. The models that underwent tuning were examined by the manufacturer's designers and made their conclusions. The implementation of innovative ideas was left to promising and young designers, but for now users can be content with stocks made of beech, oak or walnut, to choose from.

Legality of the muffler for Vepr 308 from Rotor 43

We call these products mufflers because it is shorter and more familiar, but according to the documents it is DTK. That is, a Muzzle Brake-Compensator, but of a closed type. Read more about the legality of the muffler for Vepr 308 Rotor 43 and not only at the link. Everything written in the article linked above also applies to all “silencers” on the 308 Vepr. that is, complete with the device you will receive a notarized copy of a certificate confirming the absence of communication between our closed-type DTK and “silent shooting devices” prohibited for installation in Russia.

Specifications

The Vepr-308 self-loading carbine has the following tactical and technical characteristics:

  • Weight with loaded magazine and without optics: 4.1 kg;
  • Caliber: 7.62 mm;
  • Ammunition used, caliber: 7.62x39 - domestic cartridge, 7.62x51 - foreign equivalent;
  • Length: total – 110.55 cm, trunk – 59 cm;
  • Magazine capacity: from 5 to 10 rounds;
  • Years of production: since 1995;
  • Sighting range with open sights: 300 m.

This carbine uses a trigger mechanism like the AK-74, but the Molot plant engineers made a number of changes to it. The main one was the impossibility of firing in automatic mode.

In versions chambered for .308 Win, the firing pin was also changed. A spring mechanism was added to it to prevent the ammunition primer from being pinched.

Performance characteristics

“Vepr 223” has the following technical parameters:

  • weapon caliber - 5.45 mm;
  • cartridge used - .223 Remington;
  • Weight of weapon with loaded magazine – 5 kg;
  • there are magazines for 5 and 10 rounds;
  • barrel length, depending on the model, is 420… 750 mm;
  • effective firing range 100 – 200 m;
  • Barrel life up to 10,000 shots.

The carabiner has good grip. For ease of grip, the stock has an orthopedic correct shape. The disadvantage is the large weight of the gun - it is a little difficult to use during hunting.

Finishing the Vepr-308 carbine

The quality of the weapon in question greatly exceeds the parameters of other models. However, with some intervention its performance can be improved. Since the fastening of the receiver with the butt is not ideal, it makes sense to make a through hole in the specified element, which will compensate for the shortcomings. This operation is done together with the installation of a screw with a cone washer, since the standard analogue with a tail somewhat reduces the accuracy rate.

Some parts of the trigger device are not processed properly, which reduces accuracy when conducting aimed fire. To improve the characteristics, sandpaper is used to process the hook area of the hammer and trigger. It is recommended to use a diamond-coated needle file as a tool.

Design and principle of operation

In the appearance of the SOK-94/95 carbine, its legendary machine gun, the AK-74, is slightly recognizable.

In particular, this applies to the gas exhaust system. For the rest, the engineers used their own developments. The weapon is equipped with a wooden butt with a special groove for the thumb. There is a rubber shock absorber on the back side and a pistol grip. At the end of the barrel there is a flash suppressor and a muzzle brake-compensator (DTC).

To increase service life, the chamber and rifled barrel are chrome-plated. The stock is made of wood.

Open-type sighting devices have a rear sight, allowing targeted fire at a distance of up to 300 meters. There is also a mount for optics; for this purpose, a dovetail mount is used, located on the left side of the receiver. Flag type fuse.

The magazine on the Vepr-308 self-loading carbine can be used with 5,7 and 10 rounds, but there are also homemade ones with 20 rounds. When the clip is unlocked, a mechanism is activated to facilitate its removal. If there is no magazine, then it is possible to load the rifle by retracting the bolt and inserting ammunition there.

The gun's automatic operation is based on the use of the energy of powder gases and a return mainspring. When fired, powder gases are diverted from the barrel bore into the gas chamber. After which the mechanism is pulled back, compressing the spring, the sleeve ejects. Straightening forward, the spring sends a new cartridge from the magazine into its place.

The rifle is often subject to various modifications by its owners. The butt, stock, and internal mechanisms are changed. Can be equipped with a muffler. It is possible to install optics, a high-capacity clip and other accessories for the carbine.

This is also facilitated by the availability of various elements of weapons for free sale and in particular in online stores in China.

Modifications

In 1998, they began to produce the 1st modification of the “Vepr” in .223 caliber. The weapon turned out to be convenient and unpretentious in maintenance. The carbine was liked by domestic hunters. This was also facilitated by a good price-quality ratio.

The management of VPO Molot, seeing the growing demand, gave the green light to the development of new versions of the rifle.

Vepr-223 Pioneer

The carbine began to be produced in 1999. The second designation is SOK-97R. Designed for short-range shooting, which is facilitated by a short aiming bar.

For the convenience of the shooter, the weight of the receiver has been reduced.

The changes affected the USM - it is performed on a separate basis. The buttstock is made according to the “Monte Carlo” scheme. Mounted sights are attached to the base of the rear sight on two supports.

Vepr-223 Super

Vyatskie Polyany launched production of this carbine in 2000. SOK-97M was primarily developed as a weapon for fast and, most importantly, accurate shooting. This is facilitated by a well-thought-out buttstock, orthopedic shape, and a forend made of one piece. The rifle is excellent for hunting small but fast game. The sighting device is similar to SOK-97P.

Vepr-1V

Or SOK-1V began to be produced in 2001. Despite receiving a license as a hunting weapon, this carbine is completely identical to the RPK. The only thing that has been removed is the possibility of automatic fire. The remaining elements of the Kalashnikov Light Machine Gun have been preserved: a fixed bipod, a flash suppressor installed, a folding stock with a pencil case, and a cleaning rod under the barrel.

The magazine that comes as standard is interesting. It is shaped like a drum. However, the volume does not exceed the 10 rounds permitted by law.

Basic technical characteristics of the Vepr-308 carbine

The main technical characteristics of the hunting rifle are as follows:

  • The total length of the weapon ranges from 1040 mm (Vepr-308 Super) to 1150 mm (Vepr-308);
  • The length of the barrel also differs depending on the modification. The minimum barrel length is 550 mm, the maximum is 650 mm;
  • Ammunition caliber - .308 Win. In a designation more understandable to the domestic hunter, this caliber looks like 7.62x51 mm;
  • Magazines come with 5 or 10 rounds. The Vepr-308 Super modification also has magazines for 2 and 3 rounds;
  • The weight of the weapon also depends on the specific modification. On average, Vepr-308 weighs about 4 kg.

The weapon operates using the energy of powder gases. As sighting devices, an adjustable rear sight is installed at the factory, which can set a distance from 100 to 300 meters, and a front sight that is adjustable both vertically and horizontally. There is a safety catch and a bracket for installing an optical sight. The butt and fore-end are made of wood (beech and walnut) and plastic. Plastic modifications are a little lighter.

My restyling VEPR-308

Good afternoon, dear colleagues.
I spent a long time deciding whether or not to post my work on the site, and now I’ve decided. I am posting for your review, criticism and opinion the work done on restyling and improving (in my opinion) the Vepr-308 carbine. I posted similar information on a parallel forum. Initial processing and fine-tuning of the handle View of the carbine with a new magazine General view of the modified carbine with a modified fore-end and magazine Alteration of the butt and cutting out its central part. To reduce weight. The cut of the fore-end and the cut of the butt segment weighs 140 grams.

At the end, in a rubber buffer, I placed two keys from the optics.

I wrote about this earlier. I removed the muzzle compensator, more to save weight and reduce length.

Handguard. I cut off about 1 centimeter from the top. The front of the forend was cut again. I removed the “lip” and removed the thickness of the connection to the frame. I also ground off two sharp metal protrusions on the lid of the gas chamber.

Anyone who has used it will understand how many abrasions and inconveniences are caused by the sharp edge of the receiver cover (mine is rounded), as well as the loudly clicking fuse. I ground down a little and polished the pit and bevel of the fuse holder. I also polished the edges of the fuse. Now it closes and opens very smoothly and pleasantly.

The eternal problem of abrasions on the right hand is the sharp edge of this safety stop. I sharpened it and polished it.

I’m generally silent about the bolt frame hook. It is all, as if on purpose, in sharp protrusions and corners. Several times when reloading I pulled the skin off my finger. Everything was sharpened and polished. Very comfortable, just like Saiga.

I wrote above about these acute angles. They are ground and rounded.

I have never seen such a poor trigger as on the Vepr anywhere. It was kind of square, the finger didn’t fit in it, and the emphasis was on the end of this hook. I sharpened it and gave it a soft and smooth shape. The hook fits onto your finger by itself.

Our standard 5-round magazine simply “killed” me with its stupidity. In the store I saw a CZ magazine for the 308 cartridge. It is small and convenient. I decided to do something similar, although the thought of modifying the CZ magazine for the Vepr does not leave me. First I dismantled the store. I cut off the protruding hooks in it and shortened the spring. It immediately took 9 rounds, but with the 9th it does not load because... There is no possibility of pressing when charging. With 8 rounds it loads with a bang! Then I cut the magazine by 2 cm, glued the bottom part and got a magazine for 6 rounds. And it charges perfectly. I made a smoothing bracket to the front edge using epoxy plasticine, which was then painted (due to the lack of black paint at the dacha) with Kuzbass varnish. (I’ll repaint it later.) The carbine with the new magazine is shown at the beginning. I'll tell you right away. It has become much more convenient to hold and shoot with a small magazine.

At the end I provide a table of the weight of my carbine. I think I squeezed a lot, but not completely. The weight of a clean carbine is 3600 grams - this is not bad. With a declared weight of 4200 grams. When assembled with optics, it weighs almost the same.

If the carbine is a forest rifle, then it was a waste of time to remove the muzzle. Or put another smaller and lighter one. Hammering a trunk in the forest is easy (especially in winter). With a safety lock, it was probably not worth making this hole.

Wouldn't the butt be a little weak, especially at the bottom near the handle? Maybe it makes sense to impregnate the wood with something that will give it additional strength?

As my friend in the Caucasus said about this, “barks loudly!” I myself had the imprudence to stand in front of the muzzle - until the evening my ears were buzzing and my head hurt. And from behind the cut and when shooting - at least something!

With a fuse, it was probably not worth making this notch.

It happened so, I miscalculated a little. But this is bullshit. Well, I took off the protruding edge of the bracket a bit - that’s a fact. If you press the safety too hard. then it drops below the receiver. But what can you do? It is not the gods who burn the pots.

Well done, God bless you, keep me posted.

And you don’t care how he “barks” at the animal. Now, if the trunk swells, that’s what you need to think about.

Mlyn. Didn't understand? And what does this have to do with the muzzle compensator? The compensator is still not a sieve over the barrel. If something is destined to hit the barrel before the shot is fired. So this is the fate of the trunk.

It’s a shame that I didn’t understand
