Review of the Airbus A319 aircraft: characteristics, diagram, history

The Airbus A319 airliner, designed for medium and short flights, first took to the air in 1996. Its distinctive feature is that when fully loaded, the aircraft can fly 6,845 kilometers.

The first copy of the airliner was created in 1992. It is currently being released.

This plane is a shortened version of the Airbus A320. It is operated by airlines in various countries. In terms of popularity, it is second only to the A320. To date, the number of aircraft created exceeds 2 thousand. In addition, testing of the A319neo airliner, which is an improved version of the A319, continues.

In addition, the aircraft became the main one for another modification of the A319LR. This version has additional fuel tanks. Thanks to them, the plane can cover a distance of 8,300 kilometers without landing. Another modification of the ACJ (Airbus Corporate Jet) has a cabin with only one business class. The number of passengers in it is 39 people. The flight range of this version is 12 thousand kilometers.

Major Russian airlines have the A319. There were 7 such aircraft. The number of 319s in Russia is also 7; there are such airliners in Russia, as well as in a number of others.

Modifications

The Airbus A319 is produced in 4 modifications:

  • A319-110;
  • A319-130;
  • A319-LR;
  • A319-ACJ.

Modification 110 is basic. This Airbus aircraft is equipped with a CFM56 engine. Version 130 was developed from the basic model. This modification uses AeroEngines V2500 engines. The most unique modification is considered to be the A319-LR. It is in this modification that additional fuel tanks are used, which allow increasing the flight range to 8 thousand kilometers. The business aviation category is represented by the ACJ (Airbus Corporate Jet) model. The cabin of this aircraft has an increased level of comfort. It is equipped with a gym, shower room and meeting room. ACJ is designed to transport from 10 to 50 passengers. When dismantling the VIP modules, the salon can be increased to 100 seats. The ACJ's flight range reaches 12 thousand kilometers.

Main characteristics and interior layout of the Airbus A319

The European aircraft manufacturer Airbus creates A319 models in different versions, differing in capacity and flight range. The aircraft has a lot of advantages: an extended fuselage among the Airbus line of airliners, reaching almost 4 meters. The width of the passenger compartment is 3.7 m. Height is 11.7 m.

The maximum flight range is 6850 km. Cruising speed – 840 km/h, maximum speed – 910 km/h.

The A319 aircraft is equipped with four passenger doors and two emergency exits. In the bow and tail there is a kitchen, toilet rooms and technical rooms. The emergency exit is located in the middle part of the cabin between the economy class rows.

In the configurations of the Airbus A319 there are models of one-class and two-class types. The manufacturer supplies airliners to the orders of air carriers with a specific layout of the passenger cabin in accordance with prescribed contracts and agreements.

There are other layouts of the Airbus A319, so when choosing the best seats for your flight, be sure to study the cabin layout of the selected airline.

Business Class

8 of the 128 seats in the
Airbus
A319 are reserved for business class.
The most convenient is the second row, which provides a large distance for a comfortable position in the seat.
Maximum comfort is provided by the reclining seat back. But in the first row there is a little less legroom. This is due to the presence of a wardrobe wall in front. This restriction not only interferes with your feet, but also significantly limits your visibility. In addition, the configuration of this airliner ensures that the first row is close to the toilet rooms.

General information and tips

  • Porthole seats: A, F.
  • Middle seats: B, E (least comfortable seats).
  • Aisle seats: C, D.
  • A quieter area is the nose of the aircraft. Some airlines sell such tickets at an increased rate.
  • In the front rows there is more opportunity to choose from the proposed lunch options.
  • Those sitting in the front rows will be able to get off the plane faster after landing.
  • Near the emergency exits the temperature is a little lower, it is better to take a warm jacket with you.
  • The area above the wings of the aircraft is the most stable.
  • Noise and turbulence are felt more in the tail section.
  • If you get an uncomfortable seat, you can change seats after boarding has been announced (of course, if there are empty seats in the cabin!).
  • If you like to look out the window, think about which side the sun will be on before checking in (if you are flying during the day). Choose a place on the opposite side.
  • If window seating is important to you, check to see if your seats are above the wings. In such places, the wings partially obscure the panorama.
  • Passengers with infants usually fly in the first row (you can install a cradle there), and passengers with animals in the last.
  • It is better for tall people (185 cm or more) to sit in seats located next to emergency exits.

According to passenger reviews, overall the Airbus A319 is not bad. But due to its small size, turbulence is felt strongly in the cabin. In addition, comfort very much depends on the pitch of the seats; often on this plane it is small and it is very uncomfortable for people of large build and height.

If you are planning to fly on an Airbus A319, be sure to familiarize yourself with your airline's aircraft diagram. The configuration of seats in the cabin is always slightly different. We hope that our tips will help you choose the best places. Have a good flight!

Economy class

The economy class category includes seats from the 3rd to the 22nd rows. In front of the 3rd row of the Airbus there is a curtain that separates the 2 classes. Due to this, economy class passengers can travel with maximum comfort. They have space for your feet to rest comfortably. Moreover, no one will throw back their chair in front of them. The downside is the fixed armrests in which the folding tables are installed.

The worst seats on this airliner are the seats in rows 21-22.

Passengers in the last seats are especially affected. Firstly, due to the minimum distance to the walls, the backs of the chairs do not recline. Secondly, passengers will have to watch for a constant crowd of people near the toilets. Thirdly, they will have to hear the constant murmur of water and the sound of slamming doors. Such flight conditions cannot be called comfortable.

The seats in the 8th row are also considered not the best. The close location of the emergency hatches contributed to the fixation of the backrests of the seats. At best, the seats recline at a slight angle.

Review of Airbus A 319 - Normal plane

The car is fundamentally no different from the A320 and A 321, the latter is a little larger, but it’s the same thing. The plane is designed for short distances; you cannot fly on it between continents. Quite silent, accelerates very quickly and takes off easily. Accordingly, it also sits down very smoothly. Very similar to the Boeing 737, but also smaller. And the nature of the operation of turbines is similar, noise and specific sound. Not high-speed, cruising speed rarely exceeds 750-800 kilometers. The echelon altitude is normal, around 10 kilometers. It gains the desired height very quickly and descends just as quickly. Convenient for short flights. The car is small, so unless the pilot is a genius, air pockets and turbulence are quite noticeable. Once I got caught in a hurricane on this one - for an hour - an hour and a half it felt like driving a tractor across a field - it was thrown from side to side, I was already sure that it would fall apart... but nothing, it landed normally, so the device is quite strong. The service, of course, depends on the specific airline. Best on Turkish Airlines. In general, various Arab airlines probably have the best service. Europe is greedy, the USA is less greedy, but it is also present, Russians are greedier than Europe and the USA combined. That leaves the Arabs and Israel. The Arabs, as today's events have shown, have some tension with security. There is one more nuance. When entering the clouds, the plane “hits” quite a bit, it’s a little scary, but you feel the density of the clouds, they cease to be just a picture. However, this is not for everyone. If you want to “watch a movie” outside the window, then of course a hefty intercontinental airliner is better. If you want to experience flight, then the smaller the car, the better. Due to low speeds, the clouds outside the window become almost tangible. Everything inside is quite economical. On charter flights, the seats are so stuffed that there is nowhere to put your legs. Few toilets, constant queues. There is no question of having sex in the toilet, the line will break later. The plane is quite warm. Although this may be due to the short flight distances. At least, when I had to fly for 10 hours, the plane began to freeze pretty much after 3-4 hours. Another disadvantage is that due to its small size, it is dangerous to take off in bad weather. So, a flight delay is more likely than for a large airliner. According to operating statistics, there were quite a few accidents with this category of aircraft. So, we can say it's a safe plane. Sometimes it climbs to a high altitude to fly around bad weather, then you can practically see the beginning of near space overhead. The sky is already pitch black. Among the advantages, it seems to slightly pollute the environment and is quite silent. Although this is also a double-edged sword. This is why he is slow. The same Boeing 747 pollutes the environment more than any other Boeing, but also drives more than 1000 km per hour. Although in terms of noise, it is also quite quiet. As a rule, it is found on charter flights, so many specimens are quite dead, they fly almost without respite. In general, the plane is not bad at all, it is quite usable. I give him 9 out of 10. For clarity, I will post a video of this car landing at Domodedovo.

A319 aircraft safety

Airbus Industry A319

It is considered one of the safest aircraft of our time.
In the entire history of this airliner, not a single plane crash or major incident has been recorded.
However, over the past few years, news feeds have been filled with information about emergency landings of this aircraft. The last such landing occurred in December 2012. Due to the failure of one of the engines, the pilot of the Moscow-Copenhagen flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Sheremetyevo Airport. The cause of such problems, as a rule, is the lack of timely and correct maintenance.

Design features

The airliner of this modification is a narrow-body, 2-engine, cantilever low-wing aircraft. The main feature of this Airbus aircraft is the fact that the swept-back wings extend through the lower half of the fuselage. Thanks to this, during an emergency landing with the landing gear not extended, the wing structure protects the passengers and crew of the aircraft from impact.

Composite materials are used in the production of the all-metal body of the Airbus. The airliner is equipped with a retractable 3-leg landing gear. The strength and lightness of the chassis greatly simplifies the process of releasing and retracting it.

Airbus aircraft are equipped with turbofan jet engines that are installed under the plane of the wings. The airliner is equipped with EFIS on-board electronic systems. For the convenience of the pilot, color multifunctional screens are used as cockpit information fields.

History of creation

This aircraft is a slightly modified version of the A320 airliner. The initiator of the creation of the shortened A320 model was the founder of the International Lease Finance Corporation, Steven Udvar-Hazi. It was this company that ordered the production of 6 A319 aircraft back in 1992. A year later, contracts for the purchase of this version were signed with Swissair and Alitalia. Final assembly was completed on March 23, 1995 at the German plant in Hamburg.

This version of the airbus aircraft was put into operation on August 25, 1995. The first users of this aircraft were Swissair passengers. At the moment, 1460 Airbuses of this version have been produced. 1,440 aircraft are still in service. It is also worth noting that today the largest operator is EasyJet. This airline operates more than 140 aircraft of this modification.

Airlines operating the A319

Modern narrow-body A319 aircraft, designed for flights over medium and short distances, are operated by dozens of world airlines. Among them there are many Russian carriers that provide comfortable passenger transportation throughout the country and international destinations.

The most famous A319 operating companies:

  • Russia – 27 units;
  • Ural Airlines - 7 aircraft;
  • S7 Airlines – 19 Airbus 319 in operation;
  • Aurora – 10 aircraft of this model;
  • Turkish Airlines – 7 aircraft.

Where is the Airbus A319 made?

The largest enterprise for the production of Airbus A319

is the plant in Hamburg. The entire A320 family is assembled here. But it is worth noting that the main production facilities are located in Hamburg, but the wing system is manufactured in Berlin. In addition, the Stade plant produces body components for this aircraft, and Buxtehude produces electronic communication systems.

An assembly line has also been created in the Chinese city of Tianjin. The first Chinese-made A319 entered service in July 2011.

The best and worst places

The A319 airliner, being a shortened version of the A320, has 2 fewer rows of seats. But a company engaged in the production of aircraft, if required by the customer, can carry out individual formation of seats.

The aircraft cabin can be represented by three classes: business, first, economy. And 319 can carry 156 passengers. With this option, there will be only 30 centimeters of space between the seats of adjacent rows. This option is usually called the basic economy class configuration. The cabin has 26 rows. There are 6 seats in each row, 3 on one side of the aisle and the same number on the second.

The best seats are those in the first row. There is more legroom for passengers here than where other seats are located in front. Comfort is reduced by the front blank wall blocking the view.

One of the disadvantages is that there is a toilet and kitchen right behind the partition. Sometimes it happens that a queue forms in the aisle, which somewhat disturbs the passengers sitting there. As for the proximity of the kitchen, although flight attendants appear here more often, when they distribute food, they are the first to receive it here.

The best seats include those in the row next to the emergency exits. There is even more legroom for passengers. True, there are also inconveniences. The armrests cannot be removed there, since folding tables are built into them.

In rows two to ten there are places that differ neither for the better nor for the worse. True, there is a minus in the tenth row. The backs of the seats located here do not recline. This is done so that they do not interfere with passengers leaving the plane through the emergency exit.

To some extent, the comfort of passengers sitting near the aisle in these rows reduces the movement of flight attendants and passengers. Although the passage meets the requirements, people passing here still slightly disturb those in the chairs.

Airbus A319 interior

For the eleventh row seats, located near the emergency exit and recognized as the best, there are restrictions on the sale of tickets. Places here are not provided for children, disabled people, or pregnant women. Such seats are not sold to passengers traveling with animals, as well as to foreigners if they do not know Russian or English, or even simply understand them poorly.

In the middle and rear sections of the cabin there are seats that fall into the standard category. Of course, even in them, those who sit next to the aisle sometimes find themselves in somewhat cramped conditions due to the passengers moving around here.
