“Punisher” (knife): characteristics, functionality, modifications

Combat knives produced by NOKS are combat bladed weapons and are prohibited for civilian circulation. There are some legal peculiarities here; some consumers do not understand that in order to produce military weapons you need to have an appropriate license. A very small number of private enterprises have it, since the state, when producing weapons, prefers to deal with traditional suppliers, defense enterprises from Tula or Izhevsk. And this license is often confused with a license for the production of civilian edged weapons (hunting knives). But a company with such a license does not have the formal right to produce weapons for law enforcement agencies. There is another option, knife companies that often declare that their products are used in law enforcement agencies; they simply misinform customers a little, usually for advertising purposes, because it is well known that war is the best advertising. Typically, such companies make one-time deliveries of their products. These products, as a rule, are not only not in service, but also do not pass military acceptance. Therefore, a knife officially adopted for service and a knife sometimes supplied to law enforcement agencies are two big differences.

The procedure for adopting a combat knife into service is the same as for other types of military equipment. This is the development of technical specifications by the customer. Issuance of it to the contractor, development of a preliminary design, production of prototypes and their testing. Finalization based on test results and release of working documentation. Release of an experimental batch and its testing, again refinement based on identified comments and state tests, ending with adoption. As we can see, it is a rather long and expensive process, which allows us to obtain the result that is included in the customer’s requirements. Hence the legendary reliability of Russian weapons. As practice shows, attempts to bypass this procedure and release the product from the sheet turn out to be disastrous; the products, as a rule, are “raw” in design with unproven technology, which does not allow achieving the required quality during serial production.

Russian combat knives

The first weapon that comes to mind is the punisher combat knife; it is used by fighters in various secret units of the FSB.

In addition to the punisher, the following types of military weapons are popular among secret and combat units: “Storm”, “Lynx”, “Vityaz”, “Anti-terror”, DV-1 and DV-2, “Katran”, “Shaitan”, “Akela”, “Smersh”, “Cobra”, “Vzryvotekhnik”, “Gyurza”.

KNIVES OF THE “PUNISHER” SERIES

The company's series of combat knives are Punisher type knives. The series includes two types of knives. The Punisher himself and the Anti-Terror knife. The only differences are in the blade in the Punisher it is more massive, in the Anti-Terror it is narrower. The shape of the blade and the entire design as a whole are almost identical. The differences are in the material of the handle; it is either padded leather or neoprene rubber. In the premium version, the stacked leather handle has brass gaskets. Leather sheath with plastic insert. The design itself allows for various fastenings. Blade material: steel 95Х18МШД or steel EP853. Anti-glare coating.

In addition to the leather sheath for the Punisher, a scabbard made from avisent has also been developed; it is equipped with a pocket for a sharpening diamond whetstone; in addition, the package of such a knife includes a universal auxiliary tool Splinter-2, which combines the functions of an awl and a can opener. These sheaths are more versatile and can be attached to gear and gear in a variety of positions. The Punisher knife has an original blade shape that combines several types of bladed weapons. The blade is asymmetrical and is designed for one and a half sharpening. Sharpening is differentiated. The upper edge is designed for chopping, the lower for cutting. At the same time, the shape of the lower part is made concave, which increases the cutting capabilities of the knife. The knife itself, due to the shape of the blade, has several bends. Which, with a relatively small width, allows, on the one hand, to obtain good penetrating ability, on the other hand, due to the shape, the wound during a piercing blow comes out much wider than the blade itself. When cutting and slashing, the lower edge works like a sickle, thus the weapon on the one hand uses the principle of the Malay kris, with its wave-like click on the other hand, the ideology of the scimitar or khukri is visible in it. At the same time, the knife retains all the features of a European weapon. The versatility of the Blade makes the Punisher a very convenient field knife. They can chop, cut, and be used as a lever. Its strength allows you to use the knife as a fulcrum. It can easily withstand a load of 100 kg applied to the middle of the handle when the blade is firmly secured. A serrated cutting section can be applied to the root part of the Punisher. It is designed for cutting ropes. There is a slot on the top of the blade, which, together with the guard, is used for bending wire. In front of the guard there is a sub-finger notch that allows you to intercept the blade, which is convenient when performing household work. In this case, the thumb is located on the grooved section of the butt and provides greater emphasis when cutting.

Application and design features of the Punisher

The Punisher knife has an asymmetrical shape with one blade curved inward. The curved shape makes it possible to increase the overall cutting functions of the knife. There is a fake blade that is placed on the front of the butt.

The blade lacks a serrated feather, but Punisher transformations can be used as a replacement; “Vzmakh-1” with a serrated blade on the root, and “Maestro” with an identical sharpening on the butt. They also differ in the type of finishing of the blade, it can be: anti-reflective, black and camouflage.

This knife, thanks to its wide shape, is quite comfortable and will become a good support when climbing various slopes.

There is a sickle-shaped depression on the blade; this depression increases the total length of the cutting edge, while all original dimensions remain unchanged.

A short review of the Punisher

I’ll drag my only review of a pure baevog knife from the Hansa.:) The original was posted in December 2008.

Lately there has been less and less time left for review descriptions, more and more work is being eaten up. And interesting knives have become less common. But recently they gave me NOX. Well, my attitude towards household products with this marking is known, but here NOX is very combative, all so beautiful and in general - how can you not write a couple of lines about it. Moreover, I don’t buy NOX, but then the opportunity came up - well, I’ll take a look, I think what kind of NOX it is. I had the opportunity to hold almost all the “combat” NOXes in my hands, but I did not communicate particularly closely with them - somehow there was no special desire. Here, too, there was an opportunity to choose, and I chose the most, in my opinion, the most terrible, the most militant and generally terrifying.

For all their combativeness, the uniforms are actually more or less functional. Well, within reason, of course. A specific sample has the following performance characteristics:

Total length - 273 mm;

Blade length - 160 (from the tip to the straight part of the guard, not to the “mustache”);

The thickness of the blade at the base is like my mother, almost 6 mm!

It’s difficult to measure the width, it’s so different everywhere.

I also have difficulty weighing the mass - there is nothing to weigh it on; at my work they don’t hold such precise weights.

I must say right away that this thing, of course, is not very practical, in my opinion. Well, the handle is okay - a gift option, leather with spacers - convenient, but not very durable. Also available with tires. The knife itself is heavy, and not only in the blade; the balance is not very chopping. No, it cuts, of course, but not very well.

It is inconvenient to chop with the sharpened part of the butt - it is curved, and the mass is in the handle, there is no impact at all. The main edge is tolerable. Hard wood is almost impossible to plan - it bites reluctantly, the edge is thick. It was sharpened from the factory quite tolerably, it cuts meat. Here I am cutting chicken for my cat:

The lard doesn't cut ice cream, the bastard, he just shreds it somehow. Well, that’s understandable, that’s not what it’s for. He sticks into the same fat very well, almost without noticing it - well, that’s what the dagger is for. Towards the tip it tapers considerably in thickness. The concave edge doesn't really work on this knife. The bend is weak, the RC is thick - the effect of increased “scimitar” clinging of the material being cut is almost not felt. The concave part of the butt with a notch is a clever thing. No, I don’t understand the grip with a finger on it and a second finger on the choil - it’s just more convenient to peel potatoes with it, and buttoning small logs with the tip goes better, there’s somewhere to hit. Choyle is not so great. If you were supposed to grab the guard with your finger to pull the knife out from somewhere, then it is too small; in a hurry you can easily jump over it with your finger and drive along the blade. And no need, the top is enough for that, IMHO. The guard is okay, pleasant overall.

Steel - what can I say, normal. 55Something-there-how-much-there, I think so. Doesn't hold an edge very well, easy to edit, durable. I haven’t tried to sharpen it to any extraordinary heights. Having stuck it into a piece of wood, you can safely break out the slivers by turning the blade on its side - nothing will happen to it. The Emerson folder, for example, lost the tip of the blade in a moment during such an operation. So the knife performs its poking functions adequately. A cutting blow to the meat with a sharp knife is okay, not bad. I haven’t tried it completely blunt, but considering the thickness of the edge, it’s probably better not to try to cut the enemy with a blunt one. This is not a Finnish woman with her descents to zero; it is better to poke or knock on the head with the pommel of a stupid Punisher.

The sheath is surprisingly good - high-quality leather, plastic insert, hole at the bottom, made neatly. The button is not too tight, the loop is wide, and there is a second one for hanging the knife higher or with the handle down. Yes, it’s garbage compared to modern Kydex ones, but for the domestic series it’s very good. Surprisingly good. True, if we touch on the issue of wearing, then again it’s worth remembering the weight. It's a very heavy knife, IMHO. It’s great to twirl it in your hands, it’s great to test it, it’s fun to show it to friends, it’s fun to try to adapt it in the kitchen - but I wouldn’t carry it on myself when walking.

A general resume is a cool and worthy thing in its own way, but not very practical. Personally, among those KNOKS, the combat version of the banal smersh seems much more universal to me - lighter, simpler, more convenient. The Punisher is too sophisticated - complex, expensive, with some vague results. Yes, it looks menacing, and generally inspires, and it’s not even poorly made in general, much better than modern HBsh KNOKS - but you can drag it somewhere with you only for show-off. IMHO, of course. If you don't limit yourself to NOX - then here's the second Sogov GovTak - I wouldn't hesitate to take the Punisher anywhere instead. But among domestic combat knives it’s quite a thing, I can’t help but admit. If you quickly compare it with imports, everything is better than any “classic” cabarets. If you take into account the price in comparison, then I’m not sure anymore, really. Although, this is all a matter of taste.

Eh, it would be interesting to see the prototype, and the knife from which the prototype was torn off. Let me explain this point - there are persistent rumors about the not entirely certain authorship of this knife. Since I was not there, I will not express my opinion on this issue. :blink:

General characteristics of the knife

High quality steel is used to make Punisher blades:

  • 50X14 MF;
  • 65X13;
  • 70X16 MFS.

The blade is dense and has an anti-reflective coating applied to it. It also has an inconspicuous cross that easily protects your hand from slipping during strikes.

The main handle is made of pressed leather, this will help the owner to deliver a painful blow to his opponent, without damaging his hand due to the secure grip.

Thanks to the relief of the rubber handle, the knife is securely fixed even in a wet hand. The sheath for the blade is also made of thick leather, which has two suspension systems and a strap that, using a button, securely and firmly fixes the knife.

The length of the “Punisher” is 28 cm, with the following parameters: blade length – 16 cm, width – about 4 cm and butt thickness – 6 mm.

The butt knife was developed by the NOKS community on an individual assignment from the FSB of the Russian Federation. Now this knife is produced at the Melita-K enterprise.

“Punisher” (knife): characteristics, functionality, modifications

It is appropriate to begin our review by mentioning that a person who is not in the service of law enforcement agencies currently cannot purchase these weapons for personal use or collection (at least legally).

However, anyone interested in good knives will find the introductory material interesting. In addition, the developer also offers a civilian version of the Punisher, which looks very much like a military weapon.

A word about the manufacturer

develops and produces not only edged weapons, but also equipment. Some samples are officially in service with Russian special forces. Melee weapons from this manufacturer have already proven themselves well during combat missions.

All bladed weapons are produced at the Melita-K enterprise. For production, the company uses high-quality high-carbon steel and stainless steel. The declared Rockwell hardness of knives is determined to be within 56-60 units, which is quite a lot even for a military weapon.

"Punisher" - a knife for a fighter

The first thing that attracts attention in the appearance of this knife is the non-trivial curved shape of the blade and the presence of a concave guard. The powerful handle trimmed with pressed leather adds charisma.

Because of such a spectacular, sophisticated appearance, many even have the opinion that the “Punisher” is more of a souvenir, gift or award knife than a combat knife. In fact, many owners who are trained in knife fighting and have practiced with this particular weapon note that the knife is very unique. It takes some getting used to.

Blade

Sharpening a knife also has its own peculiarities. In the illustration we see that the end of the blade is double-edged, which significantly increases the penetrating ability (especially considering the considerable weight of the weapon).

Most fighters who own this weapon note that the steel holds an edge well. A new knife coming off the assembly line is very sharp and does not require additional preparation.

Civil versions of knives

For gun shop enthusiasts and connoisseurs, it will take several hours to talk about all kinds of weapons. But first you need to understand the differences between the civilian version of knives and combat ones:

  • in civilian versions of the knife, the butt remains unsharpened, while combat knives have a chopping sharpening;
  • in order to obtain certification for the civilian version of the knife, the guard had to be removed, as well as the groove that was used for breaking wire;
  • on the handles of civilian knives they are used only for finger grooves, they are designed for a secure grip and protect the hand from the blade slipping onto it;

All other characteristics and materials of manufacture are no different from military weapons.

KNIVES “CORSAIR” AND “SCORPION”

Based on the Punisher knife, the Zlatoust AiR company produces two hunting and tourist models. They were created on the basis of the drawings of the first version of the Punisher transferred to A&R for the production of the civilian version. The blade of these knives is less wide, and occupies an intermediate position between the blade of the Punisher and Anti-Terror. One of these models is a Corsair knife with a developed guard, the second Scorpio in which the guard is smoothed, and the knife, therefore, belongs to the category of utility knives. Zlatoust copies of the Punisher are made, as a rule, with a polished blade made of 95X18 steel. Handles of three types: wooden, inlaid leather and inlaid birch bark. Knives from AiR are lighter, since the guard and pommel are made of light alloy with characteristic smooth shapes. In the Punisher, the guard and pommel are made of steel. Since, according to the technical specifications for the development of a combat knife, the pommel should be used to deliver shocking blows, and also as a hammer. (Transferring drawings from one company to another is a common practice of NOX, since the company not only produces knives itself, but also performs the functions of an engineering firm that develops knives in the interests of other manufacturers.) In the case of A&R, the NOX company was unable to release the Punisher as a civilian modification, since the knife has been officially adopted for service and, by law, cannot be sold to the public. Therefore, the drawings for the first version of the knife were transferred to the A&R company, which is famous for the high quality of its products, and after cosmetic modifications the knives were certified as hunting) Thus, the average consumer had the opportunity to purchase a knife that was previously only available to employees of elite special forces. In addition to transferring documentation for already developed and promoted products, there is another way to develop a product from scratch, for a specific manufacturer. So, for the Lynx special forces, NOX developed the Lynx knife, which was initially produced in A&R. Lynx comes in three varieties. This is a combat knife, a premium combat knife and a civilian modification.

KNIVES OF THE “GYURZA” SERIES

Gyurza series knives. This is a series of small combat knives with a blade length of 150 mm, blade width 24 mm, thickness 5 mm. The shape is close to symmetrical, the sharpening is one-and-a-half with a serrated section on the butt. The double-sided guard is made of steel. The handle is of two types, both made of leather and made of neoprene rubber or kraton.

The handle ends with a metal pommel. The second version of Gyurza-2 has a guard that covers the handle; such a guard can be used as brass knuckles. The viper is a small, lightweight knife that is highly durable and convenient for use in urban environments. It combines the capabilities of piercing, cutting and impact-crushing weapons. The scabbard is made of avisent with a plastic liner; a rubber ring is used to secure the knife, which allows you to carry the knife with the handle down. The sheath has a pocket for placing a diamond sharpening stone and a universal auxiliary tool, Splinter.

KNIFE “SHAITAN”

Shaitan combat dagger. It is a development of the ideology of the MARK-2 combat dagger from Gerber. But unlike the Gerber model, the blade became shorter and wider, which had a positive effect on both the combat and working qualities of the knife. If the Mark-2 is mainly a piercing weapon, then the Shaitan is a piercing cutting weapon, with the ability to deliver slashing blows. Shaitan was produced in two modifications. One, earlier, knife of the skeleton type, without a handle or with a handle wrapped in cord. This model was longer, more massive and could be used both as a bladed weapon and for throwing. Shaitan -2 combat knife with a regular handle. Double-sided steel guard, stacked leather handle and powerful pommel. The blade has a symmetrical double-sided sharpening. Moreover, on both cutting edges near the guard there are serrated areas. Leather sheath with plastic insert. Now only the Shaitan-2 model is produced.
