Top most powerful steel swords in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3 universe is very cruel. Although it was initially assumed that witchers would be unsurpassed monster killers, it soon became clear that the most terrible monster is sometimes an ordinary person. To fight with people, you need your own weapon, so Geralt carries a steel blade with him, otherwise he can dull the soft silver blade on human flesh.

To make your search easier, we have compiled the top 10 best steel swords in The Witcher 3.

Wolf School Steel Sword

This blade, like the Wolf set as a whole, is very balanced and versatile. This steel sword in The Witcher 3 has a good balance of magical and physical damage.

Characteristics:

  • Sign enhancement bonus +11%.
  • Acceleration of adrenaline release +11%.
  • Uritic Strike +11%.
  • Chance to cause bleeding +11%.

This set of characteristics makes this blade a good option for a universal build.

Ricasso

A specific untreated part located in the blade area, almost close to the handle. It was first discovered on weapons made during the Bronze Age. Thanks to the ricasso, masters varied the size of the sword handle, influencing the weapon’s ability during fencing and piercing. Therefore, this element can be seen on swords of completely different lengths: one-and-a-half, regular knives, rapiers, two-handed ones, claymores, and so on. On the blades of two-handed swords, the ricasso ends with a counterguard, designed to protect the hand while grasping this area. In the process of making knives, a ricasso is also often included, designed to help the future owner balance the bladed weapon and control the pressure it produces using just a few fingers.

Iris

In order for Relic Swords to compete with standard Witcher gear, they must have some kind of stat bonus or at least some useful feature. Iris is one of these steel swords in The Witcher 3.

Olgierd von Everec will give this blade to Geralt after he completes the main quest of the “Hearts of Stone” add-on with a good ending. Its performance in itself is quite average, but the blade has the ability to gradually accumulate a special charge, and then discharge it with a strong attack with a shock wave.

This strike deals more damage than Aard, but consumes the Witcher's life force. This is definitely one of the more interesting blades on this list, although not the most destructive.

A demonstration of the work of “Iris” is presented in the video below:

What can they do with the help of the Force[edit]

  • Deflect blaster shots (and regular bullets). Theoretically, the mechanism for deflecting shots is based on supernatural speed and precognitive abilities, and in principle, you can deflect shots from blasters with anything that they do not penetrate. But it’s easier to do this with lightsabers, because the blade is massless (only the handle with its cleverly arranged filling has weight), and turning it requires less effort. At the same time, it has (pseudo)inertia and centrifugal force, so it is not recommended to attempt this without training.
  • Throw with aim and return using telekinesis.
  • Turn on and off from a distance. This is the basis for a lot of very vile tricks, which, alas, are not feasible in real life in sports cyber fighting. Bye.

True friend

“True Friend” in The Witcher 3 is a steel sword that you receive as a reward for completing the additional quest of the same name. This blade specializes in attrition and direct damage.

Its characteristics:

  • +28% intensity of the Aard sign,
  • +95% critical strike damage,
  • +12% to critical strike chance,
  • +15% chance of poisoning.

This set makes “Faithful Friend” an excellent option for aggressive witchers who rely on continuous damage combined with the Aard sign stun. Plus, the wavy blade design is beautiful and unique, so much so that if you base your choice on looks alone, you'll have a hard time replacing it with anything else.

Hilt

This definition combines several parts of the sword: the handle, the pommel and the guard, which are responsible for control and quality of work with the blade. The exception was the pommel, designed to balance and grip a bladed weapon.

Since the beginning of the 17th century, firearms adapted for long-range combat have become more popular. Blacksmiths responded to this new innovation by developing basket-style hilts that protected the owner's hands from enemy blows, thereby eliminating the need to wear plate gloves. This work had a positive effect on the demand for swords, although they were more suitable for close-range attack options.

Sword from Viroledo

If you prefer a saber look, the steel sword from Viroledo is a great option. Geralt can get this blade in the “Blood and Wine” add-on by making it from a blacksmith according to the recipe of the same name.

Characteristics:

  • +75% critical strike damage,
  • +15% crit chance,
  • +15% chance to cause bleeding,
  • +15% to poison
  • +3% instant kill chance.

The blade from Viroledo is suitable for those who like to kill with one hit and crit. If enemies do not die immediately, they will bleed and become poisoned. It's cruel.

The best silver swords

Silver swords have a special purpose in the Witcher universe. They are created specifically to destroy monsters, monsters and other magical creatures. Only Witchers use this weapon.

Sword of Arondite

Features: the blade was copied from the great Excalibur, owned by King Arthur. It has only two key features, and does not have any performance-enhancing traits. Additionally, only this blade has ever-increasing base damage. The sword is present in all parts of the saga. Requires level 80 to use.

How to obtain: The weapon cannot be forged. It is received as a gift from the Lady of the Lake for the fact that Geralt helped her during the quest “Paths of Destination”. The Blood and Wine DLC must be purchased.

CharacteristicIndex
Damage560-640 health units (constantly increasing)
With each strike, the sword creates magical charges that increase the damage of this weapon by 10%. These charges are consumed when Geralt takes damage, or simply over time. If the blade is fully charged, its damage will always be critical.
If you kill an enemy with a charged sword, it will instantly discharge. However, this will permanently increase his damage.

Vitis

The steel sword Vitis in The Witcher 3 can be obtained in the Land of a Thousand Tales (quest “Once upon a time...”), next to the Longilocks Tower, if you follow the will-o’-the-wisp. This blade is ideal for a mage build and all those witchers who prefer to use magic instead of bluntly punching them in the snout.

Gives +20% to the strength of all witcher signs.

This is a great option for those who use the armor of the Griffin school or love magic. Plus it looks like a gorgeous rapier with an elegant hilt and guard.

How many rubles are in a medieval denarius?

To make it clearer, let’s convert the ancient currency into modern rubles. No one has set their exchange rate, so we will proceed from gold prices.

So, the weight of 1000 denarii is approximately 4.25 kg of gold. On September 14, 2011, 58 thousand 720 rubles were paid for 1 kilogram of gold.

So, for 4.25 kg. you need to pay 249 thousand 560 rubles.

By the way, the sword, the photo of which I put first in today’s material, costs 175 thousand 500 rubles. As a reenactor I will declare: “Saliva drips, but the toad suffocates.”)))

Bluff

The steel sword “Bluff” in The Witcher 3 allows the player to receive a permanent critical damage buff along with a passive boost to magic in general.

The characteristics are as follows:

  • +15% to the Aard sign,
  • +24% Igni,
  • +15% Axia intensity,
  • +75% to critical damage,
  • +15% to critical strike chance.

An ideal choice if your build is “battle mage”.

You can get Bluff only as a result of the quest “The Great Tournament in Beauclair” if Geralt defeats Hamal al Danbali in Gwent (DLC “Blood and Wine”).

Features of Japanese swords

Various forms of bends, a striking blade with a cutting edge, a comfortable handle and a minimal presence of a guard are the first things that come to mind when mentioning modern Japanese combat swords. The craftsmen there are unique blacksmiths who have managed to create many types of weapons that share common features (katana, nagitana, wakizashi, and so on). In production, they used the highest quality metal and spared no effort in the process of working out every detail. Therefore, it is not surprising that modern Japanese swords have exorbitant prices and are intended for a specific samurai.

The Japanese technique of wielding paired blades (often swords of different types and made of different metals) has become a legend in the art of war. Neighboring nations tried to adopt it, but the Arabs achieved greater success in this field. Europeans created their own style of fencing using a sword and dagger, partly copying the Japanese technique. But this version has not yet been confirmed. Therefore, some researchers are of the opinion that national martial arts developed in parallel to each other, without intersecting.

Hen Haydt \ Tesham Mutna

This place in our top list of the best Witcher 3 steel swords may look strange, but the fact is that both blades have the same characteristics and appearance. Hen Haydt can be obtained in the quest “Between Worlds”, and Tesham Mutna can be found in the ruins of the same name. Both blades are from the Blood and Wine expansion.

By themselves, they cause a lot of damage, but as part of a set of armor they allow you to restore vitality (health), killing opponents and turning Geralt into a vampire witcher.

Sheath

They wore swords, of course, in sheaths. The design is classic - a wooden frame covered in leather.

Illustration from the book “Barbarian Warriors: Saxons, Vikings, Normans” by Dan and Suzanne Shadrake, which was published in the Brassey`s History of Uniforms series in 1997.

Sometimes the sheath was lined with fur on the inside. Both the sagas and the swords themselves tell about this. The fibers were simply baked into the rust that covered the blades after so many years of rest.

Swords were worn on the belt, and over the shoulder under the arm, and not behind the back, as they are sure in Hollywood. It depended on the occasion - a weapon on the belt was convenient for a pedestrian, and over the shoulder under the arm for a horse.

They were suspended from the belt using a special loop, like a trench coat. The option seems to be quite convenient. At least, the ancient Chinese, Sarmatians and Celts enjoyed using similar devices.

The sheath was also decorated with metal plates at the tip and near the mouth. Interestingly, all swords of the fourth type had very simple linings. Such spartanism only emphasized the brilliant beauty of their hilts.

Belhaven Blade

The Belhaven steel blade takes third place in our top list of the most powerful steel swords in The Witcher 3.

Characteristics:

  • +30% to the Aard sign,
  • +100% critical damage,
  • +15% to critical strike chance 15%,
  • +15% to poisoning.

The ability to increase crit damage by 100 percent is difficult to overestimate. You can find the recipe for this blade at the bottom of the Sansretour River along with an invoice, which will be needed for the task “Waiting for Go and Before” in the Blood and Wine add-on.

Handle

The hilt is the wooden or metal part of the sword designed to be grasped by the hands. Some of them are covered with shark or shagreen skin. Since the beginning of the 19th century, rubber began to be used in the manufacture of handles. All the material was glued to the main part, and then secured with wire.

The handles were not always held with both hands. In the thick of the battle, where all the warriors were equipped with full-fledged plate equipment, the handle of any sword was held with only one hand, while the other was grasped at the blade, delivering strong stabbing blows. This method of fighting was called the "half-sword technique."

Hjalmar's Steel Sword

The steel sword of Hjalmar in The Witcher 3, like Iris, is given as a gift to Geralt in the main quest, but only if you defeat the islander Vildkaarl in a fist fight during a feast in Kaer Trold on the quest “The Queen's Gambit”.

The only noticeable feature of this steel blade is the bonus to critical damage from 45 to 200%.

The size of the bonus is determined randomly each time it is given out as a reward. This means that you will have to re-download until you can get the coveted 200%.

Paired with enhanced crit chance with potions, decoctions or oils, it can surpass the best blade on this list.

The most famous swords and blades - from Hrunting to Excalibur

Reality is usually boring and not particularly colorful. The more clearly perfect things appear in it, sometimes shrouded in a halo of mystery. A thing becomes overgrown with rumors, stories, and now it is no longer a thing, but a legend. Especially if he knows how to kill.

It so happened that throughout the existence of mankind there was no weapon more revered than the sword. Swords were given names, they were buried with their owners or passed down by inheritance. Possession of a legendary blade gave a moral advantage in battle, and the praise often exceeded the honor given to the owner. Several amazing stories have survived to this day, where it is unclear who is more important: the sword or its owner.

Muramasa - the most bloodthirsty

Take Muramasa's . There are only four of them known in the world - we are not talking about countless fakes. The masters who created the swords are known, but the names of the owners are lost to centuries.

There was a legend about these blades that a Muramasa sword taken out of its scabbard would not return to them without drinking blood, even if it was the blood of an innocent person, or even its own owner. These are the kind of illegible and bloodthirsty swords that the masters produced. It is no wonder that a hunt was declared for them: the weapons of Muramasa’s hand were confiscated and destroyed under pain of death.

The following swords, which will be discussed, have not been seen by anyone living today, but that’s what a legend is.

Hrunting is the most useless

There are people like this: they didn’t do anything, but at the right time they showed up in the right place and became a legend. This sometimes happens with things: lucky, for example, a sword named Hrunting .

Briefly, the story goes like this. According to the poem Beowulf, the Dane Unferth gave his heirloom sword to the hero to fight the mother of the monster Grendel . But the sword turned out to be powerless against the skin of the evil mother, and Beowulf had to find other reserves so as not to be torn to shreds. The situation was saved by another sword, covered with magic runes, but after the battle it dissolved in the blood of monsters. Polite Beowulf picked up Hrunting and returned it to its owner with gratitude and praise, without saying a word that the sword turned out to be a useless piece of iron.

Durandal is the strongest

The sword, of course, is famous, mentioned in many places, but has not particularly shown itself. Just a very strong blade that served its owner faithfully. In order to prevent the enemies from getting the sword after his death, the frantic Roland hit the stones with all his might, trying to break the blade, but to no avail. Roland met death with the sword. Moreover, thirteen knights were unable to remove the sword from his hand, and only after King Charles offered a prayer were they able to unclench their fingers. The king picked out the handle, in which the relics of Christian saints were hidden, and took the relics for himself, but the blade was of no use to him and was thrown into the lake. The further vicissitudes of the sword are unclear, but these days the monks of the town of Rocamadour in France show admiring tourists the supposedly real Durandal sticking out of the wall.

Gram (Balmung) – the most deadly

But the history of the sword named Gram is much more interesting. At first, according to legend, it was just a sword that belonged to the god Odin . Then Sigmund , who was able to pull the sword out of the family tree, where Odin had stuck it while having fun at the feast. Then Odin, for some reason, frames Sigmund by breaking his sword in battle. From the rubble, the blacksmith forges Gram for Sigmund’s son, and that’s when the real adventures begin. The sword manifests itself as magical: it cuts in half everything that the owner can reach, helps to destroy a bunch of monsters and gain eternal glory for its owner, and a little for himself.

In general, it turned out to be such a powerful specimen: he broke an anvil, laid down countless kings, armor, stones, chopped wood into small chips, Fafnir , and Brunnhilde died at the grave because of him. In general, everyone died.

Cruaidin Stronghead - the most beautiful

Cruaidin is a sword that belonged to Cuchulainn , a hero of Irish myths. The legend speaks of the extraordinary sharpening of the blade and its flexibility. Well, as usual, he cut a person in two without much effort. Not only was the sword particularly productive in destroying individuals disliked by its owner, but it also cultivated its owner in every possible way, singing heroic songs and conducting small talk. Plus, it was simply beautiful: a sword with a gold hilt, a silver pommel, a gold-woven belt and a richly inlaid scabbard, plus a point that “glimmered in the night like a torch.” Not exactly a murder weapon, but a Christmas tree decoration.

Excalibur (Caledwulh, Caliburn, Caladbolg) - the most famous

Well, and, of course, the crown of any rating of legendary swords will be the famous sword of King Arthur . There are many stories about him, and almost all of them contradict each other. Let's say there is a strong opinion that it was not this sword that Arthur pulled out of the stone. And this one was given to him to use by the Lady of the Lake - a magical maiden with unclear intentions. The sword had a terrible ability to cause unhealed wounds. The owner, however, was in no danger: the sheath of Excalibur healed any damage.

Excalibur did not acquire such properties immediately. At first it bore completely different names and had different owners. Caladbolg is his first name. In some myths, this is the sword of Cuchulain ; in other sources, its owner was Finn McCull , the legendary Irishman. The sword's power allowed it to cut three hills at a time. Then the sword “went away” into Welsh folklore, changed its name to Caledwulch , and at the same time changed the owner to King Arthur Pendragon . Here he showed the ability to easily chop steel and inflict unhealed wounds. And then, already being the property of Arthur, the sword changes its name to Caliburn and later to the familiar Excalibur.

Due to the stupid habit of littering in nature, the sword that had lost its owner was sent into the lake, like Durandal, like many swords before it. In general, archaeologists suggest that there was a custom of drowning weapons after their owner died. How else can one explain the huge number of Dark Ages swords found in European bodies of water?

Although in our time it is no longer customary to walk along the streets with scabbards clanking on one’s side, a person’s interest in a strip of soulless steel, which could easily take someone else’s life, will never fade away. Or is it still not soulless?..

Steel sword of Toussaint knight (craft)

Almost all of the Witcher 3 swords mentioned above pale in comparison. Just look how monstrously strong he is:

  • +300 armor penetration,
  • +30% Quen intensity,
  • +100% to critical damage,
  • +20% to crit chance
  • +15% chance to set enemy on fire.

You don't even need to complete any task to get the most powerful steel sword in this game. The recipe can be found in the central ruined tower of the Gallion Palace Ruins, on the top floor of the Hansa Hideout.

Color heraldry[edit]

Among the Jedi, according to Expanded Universe sources, the color of the sword signifies specialization.

Blue stands for Jedi Guardian (martial arts specialist), Green stands for Jedi Consular (Force specialist and social worker). A rarer yellow is the Jedi sentry (the internal police of the Order, in abilities - average between a guard and a consul). Purple is a sign that its owner is dangerously balancing on the edge of the Light and Dark sides. That's why Mace Windu had a purple sword - he constantly walked on the razor's edge. In Luke's New Order, this scheme was not followed, and the Jedi more or less took their colors as the Force suited their souls.

The Sith adopted red as their standard color. Some Sith, especially former Jedi who retained their old lightsaber, carried weapons of other colors. Many Dark Jedi who emulate the Sith also use the red blade.

The gray orders have their own systems. The Jensarai, for example, were distinguished by a completely riotous variety of colors of blades. Imperial knights, on the contrary, used strictly white ones.

In the new canon, the system was changed, although the beginnings of this flashed back in KotOR, when you could change the color of the sword crystal depending on the course of the dialogue. Now the lightsaber crystal is a sort of Sorting Hat. It itself takes on a color depending on the talents of the Jedi building the sword. When he turns blue, you will be a Jedi Guardian. If you turn green, you will be consul. If it turns yellow, it will lead you straight to the Sentinels, Shadows, or Temple Guards. Well, if he turns red, it’s the same as if the Hat would shout “Azkaban!” Yes, and this means that the Jedi subclasses are now the most official canon.

The color of the blade can be changed by reassembling the sword and meditation - when exposed to the Dark Side, the crystal begins to “bleed” and changes color to red, when such a crystal is exposed to light power, the color disappears completely and the lightsaber becomes pure white. Attention, the procedure is explosive. Darth Vader was so shocked that he went back to the light side, killed the Emperor and went to apologize to Obi-Wan... And then he woke up.
