Semi-automatic carbine Voere 2185: characteristics, modifications and use

The self-loading carbine has always been a subject of controversy among hunters. On the one hand, there is no doubt that this weapon is faster and more powerful. On the downside, the default accuracy of semi-automatics is worse than that of bolt-action rifles; The Voere 2185 is an option whose accuracy remains unchanged.

Review of the Voere 2185 carbine

There is an opinion that semi-automatic rifles are more suitable for beginners. This is explained by the fact that their power and high rate of fire compensate for the lack of accuracy and shooting skills of a beginner. It's true that you can kill a beast with one or two shots. However, this type of shooting is barbaric and results in numerous deaths due to shooting.

The Voere 2185 is a self-loading rifle originally designed for police use. Even when firing large-caliber cartridges 9.3*62 mm, .300 Win Mag, the weapon easily returns to the aiming line.

This ability, combined with the Voere 2185 sniper rifle, was one of the reasons for the development of this weapon, which is still used by the Austrian police.

Advantages and disadvantages

Precision is the company's motto, and its products perfectly correspond to this principle: the precision of VOERE PRAZISIONSTECHNIK GMBH has gone down in history. And this applies not only to bolt-action rifles, but also to automatic rifles.

  • The accuracy of Voere 2185 is within one arc minute. These figures are 1.5 minutes for the sniper version and 1 minute for the hunting version.
  • The valve is a type of butterfly valve. The bolt slides along a groove in the receiver, ensuring smooth operation.
  • The barrel is locked with three lugs and is quite reliable. The ejector is located in one of the shooting holes. The barrel is made by cold forging. Only the Lothar Walther model is available in Russia. The end of the barrel has a thread on which a muzzle device, such as a flamethrower or compensator, can be attached.
  • There are two main types of manual safety locks. The safety blocking the trigger is made as a single unit with the trigger guard and has a laminated coating; the second safety is an indicator pin that can be seen and touched immediately when the hammer is cocked.
  • The standard sight is an open sight with a mechanical drive. However, the rifle has a hole for installing an optical sight or a red dot sight mount.
  • Voere 2185 is lightweight - 3.6 kg (without magazine).
  • The butt can be wooden or plastic.
  • Sniper and sports models have an adjustable cheek rest and butt length.
  • Voere 2185 has a function to disable automatic firing. To do this, you need to rotate the bolt frame 180 degrees around its axis while not completely disassembling the rifle.

New tactical rifles Voere LBW M2 and X3

The production of high-quality rifles for athletes and hunters is the prerogative of the Austrian company Voere Präzisionstechnik GmbH. Admirers of high-class weapons for civilian purposes have long appreciated the rifle units of this manufacturer. However, the company produces weapons not only for hunting and sporting needs. Voere manufactures semi-automatic small arms for the military and law enforcement. A distinctive feature of this particular weapon is its longitudinally sliding bolt, reports the website https://www.all4shooters.com.

Voere weapons are used by professional snipers. The most famous weapon options from this company are the LBW bolt-action rifles and the semi-automatic version "2185M". This is an accurate and fairly reliable weapon, the demand for which is not only in Austria itself, but also in a number of other countries in Europe and the world.

The rifles mentioned can be converted to several different calibers. Their modular principle is especially relevant today, as it allows the weapon to be used in a wide variety of options. The interchangeability of its components solves several important problems. At the Eurosatory 2014 exhibition in Paris, Austrian manufacturers presented new versions of modular rifles. These are primarily bolt-action tactical rifles. Such rifles are used for shooting at targets located at long distances. The rifles have high modularity rates. We are talking about LBW M2 and X3 rifles.

The principles of rifle layout are largely similar. A number of parts from one rifle are suitable as modules for another rifle. One of the differences between the M2 and the X3 is the different calibers used in the two weapons. The M2 uses .223 Remington/5.56x45mm-NATO, .308 Winchester/7.62x51mm-NATO, as well as 300 Winchester Magnum and .338 Lapua Magnum. The X3 rifle is even more versatile. It is suitable for all the calibers listed above, as well as .408 Cheyenne Tactical. Both the M2 and X3 are manufactured to accept single-stack magazines, the capacity of each of which depends on which caliber will be used at the time.

Both the M2 and X3 have collapsible, retractable stocks. The butts can be folded in a horizontal plane - sideways, and extended - as needed, depending on the shooter’s anthropometry.

Rifles from Austrian manufacturers are equipped with comfortable pistol grips, as well as aluminum slats that have undergone special machine processing. These strips can be greenish-brown or black. The M2 and X3 pistol grips can easily be swapped out for the AR-15 style many shooters are familiar with.

The weapon is equipped with full-length Picatinny rails, which are known to be used to equip tactical rifles and other weapons with various additional accessories. These could be special optical aiming and control systems, as well as lighting equipment or laser rangefinders.

The new sniper weapon is equipped with a lightweight bolt action. Experts have already assessed the speed of its work. The M2 and X3 have independent striker-operated cocking and safety decocking systems. Even if there is a cartridge left in the chamber of such sniper rifles, such systems guarantee safety when transporting weapons. Not every developer of sniper weapons can boast of implementing such a security system. The same system allows you to fire a shot very quickly.

The rifles are made in such a way that a rifled barrel is integrated into them, which ends with a muzzle brake-flash suppressor. The flame arrester brake can be replaced with other necessary devices, including a standard muffler.

If we talk about the manufacturer of barrels for Austrian weapons discussed in the material, then this is German. Such a barrel can be easily installed on a weapon using a simple mechanism. Even for those people who are just learning the M2 or X3, the process of changing the barrel can take no more than a minute. It is important that no special tools are required to change the gun barrel. Experts see this as a huge advantage of Austrian tactical rifles.

Replacing barrels, magazines and bolts allows the owner of such rifles to easily change their caliber. As already noted, each rifle has a wide selection of calibers.

New Austrian tactical rifles are now available not only for military or police forces, but also for commercial customers. For example, the M2 rifle can be purchased for about 6.5 thousand dollars, and the X3 for $9.8 thousand. These are the so-called starting prices, which the company can change depending on both demand and configuration.

The Voere Model 2185 sniper rifle has mechanical sights, and it is equipped with seats for mounting optical and night sights.

Early models of the Voere Model 2185 sniper rifle were equipped with laminated wood veneer stocks. The butt had an adjustable butt plate and cheek piece. Later, the rifle was equipped with a polymer stock and a skeletal type butt.

The cartridges are fed from a removable box magazine with a capacity of 5 cartridges.

Voere Model 2185 Match

The Voere Model 2185 sniper rifle is available in two types: Voere Model 2185 Match for sport shooting, Voere Model 2185 Tactical for arming the police and army.

The Voere Model 2185 Tactical rifle had a mount for a folding adjustable bipod on the front of the forend.

The Voere Model 2185 sniper rifle was of high quality and provided shooting accuracy of about 1 MOA (angular unit).

The name (“Voere”) comes from the addition of the names of engineer Erich Voetter and his companion Paul Re stle , name of which, in turn, comes from the place Constance ) and Markdorf. The company's office was registered in the city of Furtwangen (Furtwangen im Schwarzwald), Germany.

Design

The self-loading carbine uses a gas piston system, which is driven by pushing propellant gases out of the barrel. The principle of operation is the same for all self-loading rifles, but the method of its implementation is different.

  • The Voere Model 2185 hunting rifle features a cylindrical receiver. The bolt is a butterfly bolt that rotates via a lug that fits into an inclined slot in a cylindrical frame. The movement is provided by powder gas, which is ejected through the hole in the required quantity. The latter is located between the chamber and the barrel.
  • The magazine body contains the magazine and the trigger mechanism. The magazine itself is made of stamped steel. There is a button between the trigger guard and the magazine body.
  • The safety switch is made of a steel plate and is located between the magazine release and the magazine window.
  • The fuse is made in the form of a lamella and is connected to the trigger guard. The safety is mounted on the trigger guard so that the pin is visible when the hammer is cocked.
  • The model is equipped with two mechanical sights: an adjustable front sight and a front sight with a rectangular slot. There are fastenings for brackets. Standard sight mounts are from 1.5 to 3.5, non-mechanical.
  • The stock can be made of walnut or plastic. The latter is lighter and therefore more convenient for handheld shooting.
  • The Voere Model 2185 is easy to disassemble with tools, unlike many autoloading carbines. The weapon is disassembled into six large modules, which allow you to clean the barrel from the breech.

    Merkel SR1 carbine

The Merkel SR1 carbine is a deep redesign of the H&K SLB 2000 self-loading carbine, with a much more successful design. SR1 is a gas outlet; it is locked by a rotary bolt with two lugs. The carbine is compact and not too heavy with a standard barrel, weighing no more than 3.2 kg.

The stock has a straight comb, laser checkering, very decent wood. The butt allows for adjustment of the drop and release using a set of shims.

The rifle can be easily disassembled for cleaning and maintenance. The SR1's alloy box features a fourteen-slot Picatinny rail. The safety is located at the rear of the trigger guard.

The Merkel SRI rifle is designed to accept popular mid-power cartridges such as 7x64, .308Win, .30-06, 8x57JS, 9.3x62 and .300Win Mag. The two-round box magazine is easily separated.

The Battue-style sighting device is complemented by an easily visible fiber optic front sight, all together creating one of the most convenient and fastest sighting devices available.

The carbine is picky about ammunition, and the accuracy is affected by switching from one brand of cartridge to another. The trigger trigger is triggered with a force of 3.5 kg, but this parameter does not radically affect the shooting accuracy. In general, the carbine provides good accuracy of fire, which is definitely enough for shooting elk in a pen and wild boar.

This is a fairly comfortable weapon for shooting, but when shooting large-caliber cartridges, a good shock absorber on the butt will not be superfluous. It is hardly justified to use this type of weapon in difficult operating conditions.

    Woodsmaster Remington 750 carbine

The Remington Woodsmaster semi-automatic carbine has already become a classic and is known as a somewhat crude but reliable weapon for hunting.

Caliber: .243 Win, .308 Win, .308 Win Carbine, .270 Win, .30-06 Sprg. Carbine, .30-06 Sprg, .35 Whelen, .35 Whelen Carbine.

The new 750, the successor to the 7400, has been redesigned and now looks much more elegant. Driven shooters especially like the convenient Carbine option. With a barrel length of 470 mm, the Carbine is only 985 mm long. Of course, savings were also made on the length of the buttstock, which is 340 mm, and for many shooters it turns out to be somewhat too small. The weight of the Remington 750 is 3.5 kg, since the receiver is made from a monolithic steel billet.

The carbine operates by venting powder gas and is locked with a rotary bolt. The gas engine of the weapon is located approximately in the middle of the barrel. Part of the powder gas is discharged into the forend, but damage to the inner surface of the forend cannot occur because of this, since the wooden part is additionally covered with a metal screen from the inside. The standard version has a barrel length of 560 mm.

The stock is a Monte Carlo style with a large cheekpiece and is made of good walnut wood and even has a so-called Wundhammer style pistol grip. Compared to the previous straight-comb, cheekless stocks and clunky forends of the 7400, this is an improvement. The Remington 750 has a typical push-button safety on the trigger guard and a detachable two-round magazine made from sheet steel.

The sight and front sight of this weapon turned out to be too narrow for driven hunting. The shallow U-notch sight, which can be adjusted for elevation and windage, and the bright white front sight are designed for precision bullet shooting rather than short-range offhand shooting.

Now this is the most affordable imported self-loading carbine. The plastic on the stock and forend is of good quality. The barrel is thin, but produces 1-1.5 MOA, guaranteed by the company. The trigger is simple, reliable, adjusted to a trigger force of about 3 kg; if desired, you can adjust the trigger to 1.5 kg. The bolt is also functionally simple, the cartridge feed is soft and reliable, there is no characteristic clanging of the bolt, reloading occurs smoothly and clearly.

    Voere Model 2185 carbine

Austrian Voere carbines have a high reputation among hunting weapons.

All models of Voere carbines are supplied to Russia exclusively with barrels from the German company Lothar Walther. The Voere Model 2185 carbine is available in calibers .30-06, 9.3x62, 308Win, 300Win.Mag., 243Win., 223Rem.

Externally, the Voere 2185 model differs from other self-loading carbines with its cylindrical receiver. The bolt is rotary and locks by turning a third of a turn. Three lugs in front engage with the barrel, and the bolt is rotated by a leading lug moving in an inclined milled groove of the cylindrical bolt frame. Gases in the amount necessary to move the moving parts are vented through an opening located halfway between the chamber and the muzzle of the barrel.

The trigger mechanism and magazine are housed in a plastic case. The magazine for two cartridges, consisting of parts made by cold sheet stamping, tightly covers the magazine window with its bottom. The magazine release button is located between the magazine window and the trigger guard. Directly in front of the magazine release button is the slide stop lever.

The safety blocking the trigger is made in the form of a flat plate and is integrated with the trigger guard. An additional safety feature is a signal pin that indicates whether the hammer is cocked. When the hammer is cocked, it clearly, visibly and tangibly protrudes inside the trigger guard.

The sighting device consists of an adjustable sight with a rectangular slot and a corresponding rectangular front sight. A slightly wider sight slot would have been more practical. The carbine is made with Austrian care and quality, but it cannot be called budget; in Russia, in terms of “price-quality”, there are more interesting models.

    Operating principle

The operating principle of the Voehre Model 2185 rifle is similar to that of other self-loading rifles.

  • When the trigger is pulled, the hammer is released and strikes the firing pin. This ignites the gunpowder in the cartridge's seed.
  • Powder gases push the bullet down the barrel. These same gases exert pressure on the walls of the sleeve. Thanks to the correct pressure distribution, which is achieved through the ratio of the locking unit and the barrel sleeve, the sleeve returns slowly. This ensures that the bolt remains closed until the bullet leaves the barrel.
  • The shutter moves to the rearmost position.
  • At this point, the extractor grabs the cartridge case and ejects it, and the hammer returns to its original cocking position.
  • The next cartridge is supplied. The extractor is attached to a flange ring.
  • The rifle is ready for the next shot.

    Tuning

  • The first “victim” of the desire to improve the carbine was the mechanical sight. The rectangular wide slot in the front sight is said to be uncomfortable for many hunters. The optical sight can be mounted on all types of rifle mounts.
  • The end of the barrel of the Voere 2185 sniper version has threads for attaching various choke attachments, such as frame arresters, compensators and suppressors.
  • The stock and stock are interchangeable, with some preferring the plastic version for its lightness, while others prefer the classic wooden one.
  • Prices and reviews for Voere 2185 can be found below.

    Product prices

In Russia, this model appears rarely and is generally impossible to find. Prices for models vary significantly, from 91,300 to 136,000 rubles. By the way, the ORSIS Hunter SE .223 Rem and Antonio Zoli Taiga .30-06 carbine are also available at these prices.

Ammunition prices vary greatly, starting from 11 pesos per piece, BPZ with lacquered steel body, 161 pc s&b 7.62 * 54 r hpbt. a piece.
