Design and features of Hatsan 125
The Hatsan 125 air rifle is a classic spring-piston model. Externally, Turkish weapons resemble a hunting rifle. The Hatsan 125 is loaded by breaking the barrel and fires one projectile (lead bullet) inserted into the chamber before firing. The bullet is pushed out by the work of the spring, piston and compressed air.
The power of a 4.5 mm caliber air gun is small - from 3 to 7.5 J. The bullet flies out at a speed of 80-100-150 m/s. A low-power air rifle can be purchased without a license (you only need a passport).
Weapons of 5.5/6.35 mm caliber have a power of 7.5 to 25 J. The initial bullet speed of a more powerful air rifle is 200-300-380 m/s. This model is sold with a license (hunting license).
The design of all Hatsan 125 is the same. Each pneumatic model has one long barrel, a forend, a handle (neck), a plastic butt with a rubber butt pad, and an adjustable trigger mechanism (brace with a hook). An automatic fuse (in the form of a trigger) is responsible for blocking the weapon from an accidental shot.
Inside the Hatsan 125 there is a spring-piston mechanism. Pneumatics work using the energy created by a spring, a piston and compressed air. "Hatsan 125" does not need to be additionally charged with an air tank or gas cartridge. The reliable spring-piston mechanism has an important drawback - noticeable recoil when firing.
The Hatsan 125 shot power is always the same throughout the entire period of operation. However, after 2,000 shots, it may be necessary to replace the coil spring with a similar metal spare part. Pneumatics work equally well in frosty, rainy and sunny weather. To increase power, you can use a gas spring, however, it is advisable not to shoot from such a weapon in severe frost.
For better aiming, the upper part of the air rifle has an open sighting device (adjustable rear sight and front sight with fiber optic threads). If desired, you can additionally install a collimator or optical sight. Almost all pneumatic models (except 125E) have a universal strip for installing optics on the compressor pipe. The Sniper version has an adjustable (retractable) cheek piece.
Device and circuit
The secret to the amazing power of the Hatsan 125 themed rifle is simple. It lies in its size. The common people call this gun a “paddle” due to its large dimensions. It is believed that Hatsan air rifles are the most powerful.
The fact is that when the piston moves, the air is compressed into a very strong consistency, almost like iron. As a result, during descent, the bullet receives a colossal amount of energy.
If the same design is built in a conventional rifle with smaller dimensions, then the bullet will literally fall under the power of a hammer that flattens it.
In this regard, having received a message of enormous force, the bullet loses it almost completely, literally cutting through the rifling of the barrel.

Hatsan rifle diagram
In connection with all of the above, the large Hatsan 125 compressor has both pros and cons. The plus is high power and, as a result, excellent bullet speed, the minuses are high recoil and size.
One more point regarding power.
In the original, the number of Joules of Khatsan 125 fluctuates around 30. In Russia, a good air rifle without a license is allowed with a power of only up to 7.5 Joules.
In this regard, the original Hatsan rifle comes complete with a weakened spring, and in addition, separately, a kit with a gas spring is sent. The law does not prohibit this.
Standard power in joules with a reading of 30 units easily penetrates boards up to 3 cm thick and metal buckets. By the way, people sometimes call him “bucket hole” for this reason.
Hatsan pneumatics are considered one of the best air guns on the market.
In Russia, pneumatics from the Izhevsk plant are also very popular. More on that later.

Possibilities for increasing power
4.5 mm caliber rifles fire lead bullets, the power of which is 3-7.5 J. The force of the shot depends on the design of the weapon and the mass of the projectile. Pneumatic guns of 5.5 or 6.35 mm caliber shoot stronger (from 7.5 to 25 J).
It is prohibited by law to modify weapons yourself. To increase the power of the Hatsan 125, some craftsmen shorten the barrel, strengthen the spring, and make the bullets heavier. True, any changes to the factory design can lead to damage to the weapon.
The Hatsan 125 can be safely amplified up to 36 J using a gas spring. This part costs about 5-10 dollars. The lifespan of the gas spring is more than 10,000 shots. When using this part, recoil disappears (weak vibration remains). However, at subzero temperatures it is not recommended to shoot from the Hatsan 125, which operates on a gas spring.
How to choose optics
At the top of the compressor pipe, almost all pneumatic models (except 125E) have a universal strip (“dovetail” or “weaver”) for additional installation of optics. There are several types of sights. An optical device is used to approach the target. In order to see an object in the dark, a thermal imaging sight with a temperature sensor is used. The collimator does not magnify, but helps you aim more accurately.
When purchasing optics, you need to keep recoil in mind. The instructions for any scope indicate the recommended shot power. With strong recoil, the device becomes loose over time. In order to prevent loosening of the optics, you need to replace the twisted metal spring with a gas one. Such a part will eliminate recoil and extend the life of the scope and the air rifle itself.
Depreservation
All new Hatsan 125 air rifles are lubricated with a special preservative oil that prevents metal corrosion. Before shooting, it is recommended to clean the barrel (from the chamber side) of grease. To clean weapons, use soft rags, commercial patches and a cleaning rod. The barrel can be cleaned using vfg felt cylinders. It is forbidden to clean air guns with an iron brush (it may scratch the metal surface). More details here.
Advantages and disadvantages
Like any weapon, including very popular ones, the Hatsan has its pros and cons.
Pros:
- Excellent power.
- Excellent speed indicator.
- The front sight and rear sight are created using light-accumulating fiberglass threads and differ in color (red and green, respectively).
- The length is adjustable due to inserts.
- Softening butt pad.
- The length indicator (partially the trigger mechanism) is also adjustable.
- The creators are very sensitive to safety: the safety is automatically cocked along with the rifle.
- Good price.
For information on choosing an air rifle, see here.
Minuses:
- A rather severe fracture that requires physical effort.
- Not very maneuverable due to its large size.
- Since the rifle does not have very equal proportions, when shooting it very noticeably “pecks” at the bow. Of course, it is possible to improve the balance, but for this you will have to work hard.
- The included spring shrinks after several hundred shots (it makes sense to replace it with a piston).
Shooting
It is advisable to test new air guns. You can shoot the Hatsan 125 at a shooting range, on a training ground or in the forest. Shooting in the country and in the city is prohibited by law. For zeroing, you need several cardboard targets measuring 50x50 cm. You can use shoe or food boxes as a target. Targets are installed vertically at different distances (5-10-20-50 meters). During the test, the accuracy of fire is checked at a certain distance.
How to shoot the Hatsan 125 correctly:
- break the trunk;
- insert one lead bullet;
- return the barrel to its original position;
- grab the handle with your right hand;
- place the palm of your left hand under the forend;
- raise the rifle to shoulder level;
- move the sight away from the eye to a distance of 15-25 cm;
- rest the buttplate of the butt against your right shoulder;
- point the barrel at the target;
- release the fuse;
- take aim;
- align the front sight with the middle of the sight slot (the top of the front sight should not extend beyond the top of the rear sight);
- shoot at the top of the target.
The power of the shot depends on the caliber and weight (appearance) of the projectile. Light lead bullets fly further and hit the target more accurately. Heavy projectiles penetrate deeper into the target. For zeroing, it is advisable to take several sets of bullets of different weights, but of the same caliber.
Advantages and disadvantages
Advantages of the Hatsan 125 air rifle:
- can be used for training in handling a hunting rifle;
- elegant design;
- shock-absorbing soft rubber butt pad;
- adjustable trigger;
- open sighting device + universal rail for mounting any optics;
- safety trigger;
- low cost of shells.
Disadvantages of "Hatsan 125":
- relatively large mass (more than 3 kg);
- does not fold (inconvenient to carry);
- fires only one shell (no magazine);
- must be reloaded after each shot;
- strong recoil when using a coil spring;
- weak penetration force;
- not suitable for long-range shooting;
- 50 m is the maximum range to hit the target.

Main characteristics:
- The rifle can be kept cocked.
- Number of shots - 10,000,
- Bullet speed at departure - up to 400m/s
- Rod force 72kg
- Use temperature from -15 to +50
- 1 year warranty
Comfort: 1. The recoil of the weapon when using a gas spring is much softer than the recoil from a twisted one. As a result, the shot accuracy is higher. 2. When using a gas spring, there are no squeaks when cocking, unpleasant vibrations and metallic clanging when firing, which are typical for coiled springs. 3. Gas spring charging is softer and more uniform. 4. The soft and short recoil of the gas spring has a positive effect on the service life of installed optical and collimator sights.
Power: The force of the gas spring for a specific weapon model is adjusted to the power indicators that best correspond to the maximum power indicators included in the design. As a rule, the power increases by 2-2.5 times. The speed of the bullet at takeoff reaches 400 m/s and higher! For comparison, Makarov’s is 315 m/s.
Durability: 1. The service life of gas springs is 3-5 times longer than standard coil springs. 2. Gas springs retain their force characteristics 2-3 times longer than standard coil springs and can be inflated to their original force values as part of maintenance (after 5000 shots or two years of operation). 3. Gas springs allow you to keep the weapon cocked for a long time, which is not recommended for coiled springs.
