Description of the Taurus revolver and weapon characteristics, rules of use

Features and appearance

Revolvers of the Brazilian brand visually resemble similar models from Smith & Wesson. Taurus products have a classic look with a long barrel and cylinder. Brazilian revolvers are characterized by the following features:

  • double action trigger mechanism;
  • one-piece frame and drum that folds on its side;
  • presence of a lock with a security system;
  • elastic recoil;
  • the presence of a trigger lock;
  • the shutter is cylindrical in shape.

These features provide visual and technical similarities between the Taurus and Smith & Wesson. But the Brazilian model is not completely copied from the American one.

A distinctive feature of the Taurus is that the cartridges of this revolver are immersed in the base of the drum. This feature increases shooter safety. The Brazilian model also differs from the American one in the following ways:

  • reinforced screw mainspring;
  • the presence of an inertial striker;
  • the trigger mechanism is complemented by a plate with a pin, which drives the drum when the hammer is cocked.

Depending on the model type, Taurus products are complemented by a fixed or adjustable sighting mechanism. You can cock this weapon with one finger. “Cheeks” are made of polymer materials or wood. In the latter case, this is done to decorate the weapon.

Ammo

Initially, the cartridges for this revolver were 13 x 45 caliber. This caliber was developed specifically for this revolver. The designer of the cartridge followed the path of “2 hits - 8 holes” and made the cartridge two-bullet. Each cartridge was equipped with two rubber balls weighing just over 2 grams. This decision led to the appearance of a single-shot accuracy parameter – like in a shotgun. The cartridge manufacturer stated an accuracy of no more than 15 cm. This refers to the distance between hits of two bullets. In practice, this parameter was very poorly predictable. The bullets could have come in any way.

Sleeves 410 x 45

Later, this decision was abandoned in favor of a conventional single-bullet cartridge. Now the caliber of the weapon was designated as 410 x 45. The mass of the rubber ball was increased to 3.5 grams. Now, to increase the mass of the projectile, metal shavings were added to it. It also made the projectile thrown harder. With the new cartridges, the revolver began to shoot more predictably.

At the moment, the weapon is no longer produced, but is still available in some stores. It can also be purchased on the secondary market. Although old stocks are gradually being sold out. But there is no shortage of ammunition. In large cities, 410 x 45 cartridges can be purchased without problems.

Although he did not make a revolution in the world of OOO, he immediately gained a certain number of fans. The revolver was very charismatic, although it did not have the attractive appearance of classic revolvers. In addition, a serious and familiar caliber gave the owner good hope for the effectiveness of this weapon.

Popular models

Among the popular Taurus models, the most popular products are the Raging Bull series:

  • Model 416;
  • Model 444;
  • Model 454;
  • Model 500.

This weapon is intended for a large caliber (indicated in the name of the revolver).

The demand for such models is due to the fact that this type of Taurus is so powerful that it is suitable for hunting wild animals. Due to the increase in caliber, the developers of this series strengthened the design of the revolvers by adding a heavy bar at the bottom for ventilation.

The second popular model is Judge. This is a large-caliber revolver that can fire weapon cartridges without changing the barrel. This feature is typical only for products of the Brazilian brand. Judge with a rifled barrel can shoot:

  • buckshot;
  • spherical bullets;
  • fraction.

The Judge can be loaded simultaneously with rifle and pistol cartridges, allowing for close to medium range shooting. This revolver's frame and barrel are a single structure, machined on a milling machine from a single piece of metal. The Judge is designed to withstand up to 3 times its design muzzle energy. This feature is also common to other Taurus products.

Both lines of revolvers include several modifications of military weapons. The difference between the versions is only in the type of caliber of bullets with which the drum can be loaded, and the presence of additional options (the ability to install a sight and others).

History of the Taurus Judge

The idea of using rifle and revolver cartridges in one weapon was revolutionary. The result was an excellent means of self-defense, which made it possible to effectively hit targets in close combat (thanks to the good dispersion of shot, it was possible not to really aim at a distance of up to 15 meters) and at a greater distance (thanks to the powerful .45 Colt cartridges).

The revolver was originally codenamed 4410 . its name “Judge” in 2006, when the company’s executive vice president Bob Morrison learned that many judges in Miami (Florida, USA) in high-crime areas carried these revolvers with them for self-defense in the courtroom. It was then that the decision was made to change the code name from 4410 to 4510 , which more accurately reflected the versatility of the revolver (.45 Colt + .410 → “4510”).

They wanted to classify the revolver as a short-barreled shotgun due to the length of the barrel (this would have significantly limited sales on the US market), but due to the presence of the latter, it was decided to classify it as a conventional self-defense weapon.

About the disadvantages

As users note, another disadvantage of the “Warrior” is the axial part of the drum rocker arm. Over time (after a certain shooting) this element may partially fall out of its socket. There are known cases when, when preparing a weapon for cleaning, the drum completely fell out.

As a rule, such a malfunction is accompanied by the development of internal metal and abrasion of paint. It is worth noting that the hole for the axle is structurally drilled in the aluminum frame. Alternatively, to solve the problem, you can fill the goaf with black paint, which will increase friction and reduce element slippage. However, this solution is temporary. The best option would be to install a transverse screw that rests on the axis and then fixes it. The second method is more effective, since the rocker can be replaced with a new copy, which cannot be done with the frame.

First place. Revolver Thunderstorm.

Finally we got to the leader. These are revolvers from Technoarms. They are sold in Russia under the Groza brand. There are pistols of the same name, but there is no need to confuse them. The revolver is a conversion of the Czech Alpha revolver.

This weapon is produced in Russia in a variety of modifications. There are a variety of barrel lengths: 2, 3, 4 and even 6 inches. The two-inch version is perfect for everyday carry, while the six-inch version is perfect for recreational shooting.

Groza R-02S

Revolvers can be produced in a steel, aluminum or stainless steel case. Modifications with a wooden or rubber handle are also available. Such an abundance of barrel lengths and materials used in manufacturing makes the weapon absolutely universal. Everyone can choose a revolver to suit their needs.

Groza R-06S

The bulk of revolvers are produced in 9 RA caliber, but you can rarely find weapons in 45 Rubber caliber. If in 9 RA the drum is 6-seater, then in 45 caliber it will be five-seater. Loading is done in the same way as the Taurus - through moon clips. Comes with 2 weapons. Additional ones can be purchased in stores.

This is a very ergonomic and charismatic weapon. The owner will appreciate the quality of workmanship and reliability of one of the oldest types of weapons on the planet.

Ammunition used

Along with the innovative design and design, the developers should be given credit for creating a new revolver cartridge. “Ratnik 410x45TK”, the photo of which is presented above, uses the Rubber cartridge. It is equipped with a shortened steel sleeve (45 mm) and a rubber bullet. The striking element is a polymer ball with a diameter of 16 mm. Its weight is about three grams.

The predecessor used analogs with a caliber of 13 mm, each weighing 1.15 g. Some users note that this design did not greatly reduce the effectiveness of the shot, but significantly reduced the accuracy rate, since the bullets scattered to the sides. The updated model does not have such a problem and is a leader in the competition between domestic and foreign traumatic revolvers.

The muzzle energy of the pistol is more than 100 J. In this case, current medical standards regarding specific energy in case of injury are observed. We were concerned about creating a powerful “injury” that does not violate the law, while exceeding most competitors in impact force and calibration by thirty percent.
