Taurus pistols: technical specifications and photos

The Taurus RT 92 pistol is a personal weapon of the Brazilian company Forjas Taurus SA. In Latin America, this company currently occupies a leading position. The company's instructor-engineers create high-quality and relatively inexpensive pistols, which, according to all modern certification data, are not inferior to any of the known samples from Colt pistols, Smith & Wesson pistols and other weapons manufacturers.

Story

Forjas Taurus SA is the oldest arms company in Brazil. It all started in 1889 with a workshop for the production of industrial tools. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the production of hunting rifles was mastered. In another twenty years - revolvers.

In the seventies, the company confidently entered the arms market with modern types of pistols of various models. The impetus for the development of the concern was the government purchase of 4,000 weapons for the armed forces. At that time it was the Beretta brand, produced in Brazil.

In the eighties, the company bought the rights to produce and modernize the Italian Beretta. Pistols appeared under their own brand RT 92 (Pistola Taurus 92).

In the arms market of the United States of America, Taurus pistols are in steady demand. Weapons are exported to many countries, but the lion's share comes from the United States.

The company's specialists have managed to create an excellent model range, including various types of firearms. High quality products and low prices have become the key to success in world markets.

Products

Taurus pistols are primarily associated with revolvers. They are the most famous in the arms markets. The company's products are varied. The production of not only pistols for self-defense, but also weapons suitable for the work of security forces has been established.

The company's specialists have developed both compact models and large hunting revolvers. There are exotic examples in .410 caliber. The following samples are also produced:

  • submachine gun "Taurus";
  • automatic pistol;
  • shotgun.

Model "Taurus PT 92"

The most famous model is represented by an analogue from Italian gunsmiths. The Taurus PT 92 pistol is a licensed copy of Beretta, model 92. But the specialists of the Brazilian company put a lot of work into the internal contents and appearance of their brainchild.

Produced since the late seventies of the last century. Characteristics:

  • caliber – 9 mm;
  • barrel – 127 mm;
  • length (total) – 216 mm;
  • width – 40 mm;
  • height – 140 mm;
  • magazine for 15 rounds;
  • weight (without cartridges) – 960 grams;
  • shooting mode – single.

This model is distinguished by reliability, high firepower and shooting accuracy, and safety during handling.
The disadvantages include the large dimensions of the pistol. It cannot be worn concealed. The company's designers created the following samples based on 92 models:

  • PT 92 S is a smaller and lighter version (weight is 880 grams). The barrel is shortened to 107 mm, the magazine holds 13 rounds.
  • PT 99 AF – produced since 1985. This Taurus automatic pistol has a distinctive feature: the rear sight can be adjusted horizontally and vertically, and there are safeties on both sides of the frame. This location (on the frame) allows the shooter to remove the pistol from the safety when removing it from the holster. Whether you are a police officer or a civilian, how quickly you can get your weapon ready is critical to protecting your life.
  • PT 100 - produced since the mid-nineties. Loads with .40 S&W cartridges and has a magazine capacity of 11 rounds.
  • PT 101 – similar to the previous model. The only difference is that the rear sight is adjustable.

There are options with special grooves in the front lower part of the frame (for a laser sight or flashlight). There is also a choice of finishing models: wooden cheeks on the handle, mother-of-pearl, gold-plated parts, stainless steel.

This model range is especially popular for its price-quality ratio. Despite all the similar characteristics to the Beretta, Brazilian pistols are much cheaper.

Design of the RT 92 model

Its frame is made of light alloy aluminum. Double action trigger. There is a safety cocking function. The Taurus is equipped with a firing pin safety, an indicator of the presence of a bullet in the chamber. The magazine snaps into place near the trigger guard. The sights are not adjustable in any way. Some models are equipped with sights adjustable in two planes.

Taurus modifications differ from each other not only in their sights. There are differences in the cartridges used. For example, the RT 92 has a magazine loaded with 15 rounds. But the Taurus PT 100, due to the .40 S&W caliber, has only 11 rounds in the magazine. The '85 modification, more specifically the KWC Taurus PT99, has two fuse switches. They are located on both sides of the frame.

For the safety of the shooter, the pistol is equipped with the ability to safely release the trigger. This safety lever's ability to prevent accidental discharge increases safety when wearing it and when firing.

The safety lever separates the sear and the trigger. He then locks the shutter. The function of automation is to operate the recoil with a short barrel stroke. The barrel bore is locked by the interaction of the swinging combat cylinder.

In RT 101 you can adjust the rear sight. There are modifications equipped with a Weaver bar on the bottom of the frame. A flashlight or laser designator is attached there.

Taurus is available in several colors with gold-plated and mother-of-pearl parts. There are models with wooden handles. Some pistols are made of stainless steel, others are made of aluminum alloy.

It is believed that Taurus pistols are the best that the weapons world has to offer for self-defense and police use.

Trauma

The Taurus traumatic pistol – Taurus LOM-13 – was released in 2009. Characteristics:

  • caliber – 9 mm;
  • mode – single;
  • capacity – 5 cartridges;
  • cartridge – 9 mm R.A. (9 x 22);
  • barrel – 51 mm;
  • gun length – 173 mm;
  • weight (without cartridges) – 670 grams;
  • height – 105 mm;
  • width – 35 mm.

Popular with civilians and police as a pistol for concealed carry, it can be a main or backup weapon. Equipped with a double action trigger mechanism. This makes it possible to fire without cocking the hammer - self-cocking is triggered.

The revolver drum has a small outer diameter, the handle is compact and ergonomic, made of rubber. This eliminates slipping in the hand and ensures reliable fixation of the weapon while aiming and shooting, even with one hand. Modern design makes the model even more attractive.

Made of high quality and durable steel. The product is polished and then blued. The top part is matte and does not give glare. The drum and barrel cannot be removed, which eliminates the possibility of converting the weapon to use live ammunition. The model itself can use traumatic, noise, and gas ammunition.

A distinctive feature of this model is the absence of a mechanical fuse. But there is an original "locking lock" built into the pistol's trigger. A special hole is intended for a key (two copies) included in the weapon set. It can be used to “lock” the revolver. No one except the owner will be able to shoot from it. This is very important, because it allows you to protect third parties or children from accidental shooting.

The light, small and very reliable Taurus pistol (photo presented on the page) fully meets the requirements of a weapon for personal self-defense. Today on the market you can find two versions of this model - steel and black.

Revolver Taurus M 94

Taurus M 94 "old model"

In 1973, the Brazilian company introduced a new Taurus M 94 revolver to the arms market, designed to use the .22LR cartridge.

Until the end of the 1980s, the 94th model was produced in only one version - the so-called “old model”.

The revolver was assembled on a medium-sized solid steel frame and was equipped with a drum that folded to the left.

Taurus M 94 “old model”
The “old model” drum held 6 rounds and was secured with a latch that locked the tip of the ejector rod in the boss under the barrel, and a spring-loaded cam in the frame shield. When reloading the revolver, the drum was tilted to the left side and the extractor, located inside the axis of the drum, when pressed, simultaneously removed all spent cartridges at once.

This revolver was produced only with a barrel length of 152 mm (6”).

The hammer-type trigger mechanism with an open trigger, double action, allowed firing both by self-cocking and with manual pre-cocking of the hammer.

Open-type sights consisted of a backward-sloping front sight and an adjustable rear sight equipped with a micrometric screw.

The handle linings were made of valuable hardwood.

Metal parts were made from high-quality weapon steel with blued finish.

Taurus M 94 with 9-round drum

In 1989, a new version of the Taurus M 94 appeared. The main difference between this model was the presence of a new drum with an increased capacity of up to 9 rounds and a barrel with a cooling strip in its upper part. At the same time, the thickness of the weapon did not undergo a significant increase. The production of these revolvers was launched with barrel lengths of 51 mm (2”), 102 mm (4”) and 127 mm (5”). The total length of the weapon was, respectively, 162 mm, 222 mm and 248 mm, weight - 680 g, 709 g and 751 g.

In 1993, it released the Model 94 revolver in a stainless steel version.

Taurus M 94 “new model”
In the second half of the 1990s, the 94th model revolvers were once again modified. The so-called “new models” were equipped with a security lock with a locking trigger in the frame - this TSS (Taurus Security System) security system, patented, resembles a regular door lock and is operated by a miniature key. A case for the extractor rod appeared under the barrel. The wooden cheek pads were replaced with wrapping ones made of thick rubber. The “new model” revolvers were equipped with barrels with lengths of 51 mm (2”), 102 mm (4”) and 127 mm (5”) and a drum with a capacity of 9 rounds.

In addition, the line of compact versions of these revolvers with a length of 51 mm was replenished with ultra-light Ultra Light and Ultra Light Nine models. These samples differed from the basic models by a frame made of aluminum alloy and a correspondingly reduced weight (505 g), as well as the presence or absence of a case for the extractor rod.

Depending on the materials used and the length of the barrel, a certain indexation of this weapon was adopted: the number after the model means the length of the barrel in inches, “SS” means that the revolver is made of stainless steel, “B” is made of ordinary weapon steel, “UL” means The frame is made of light alloy. For example, Model 94B2UL means that the Model 94 has a 2-inch barrel made of common gun steel with a light alloy frame.

A distinctive feature of the Taurus M 94 revolvers is the high quality of workmanship, finishing and reliability at a fairly low price. This weapon was intended for use by paramilitary forces, as well as for sport target shooting. Deliveries of Model 94 revolvers have been established to the arms markets of America and Europe.

Episode 900

The first weapon of the nine hundredth series was the PT 940 model. Produced since 1992. Two years later, the PT 945 appeared on the market. Its .45ACP caliber is very popular in the USA. The release of the model was aimed at this country. By 1997, the company's specialists developed and launched into production the 9-mm caliber PT 911. In 2005, the PT 909 appeared on the market; it differs from its predecessor (911) mainly in the shape of the handle (it has been slightly changed).

Comparative characteristics of this line are given in the table.

Revolver Taurus M 66

Taurus M 66 (“old model”) with barrel length 152 mm (6”)

Taurus M 66 (“old model”)
In 1978, the Brazilian company began production of the Taurus M 66 model revolver, designed to use the 357 Magnum cartridge, and intended primarily for arming the army and police.

The design of the 66th model is similar to the 65th model, from which it differed in adjustable sights.

The Taurus M 66 revolver was assembled on a solid steel frame and was equipped with a drum that folded to the left.

The drum held 6 rounds and was fixed using a latch that locked the tip of the ejector rod in the boss under the barrel, and a spring-loaded cam in the frame shield. When reloading the revolver, the drum was tilted to the left side and the extractor, located inside the axis of the drum, when pressed, simultaneously removed all spent cartridges at once.

Taurus M 66 (“old model”) with a barrel length of 76 mm (3”)
Initially, revolvers were produced with barrel lengths of 76 mm (3”), 102 mm (4”) and 152 mm (6”). In 1992, a revolver with a barrel length of 64 mm (2.5”) was added to the lineup. Under the barrel of the weapon there was a case for the extractor rod.

Double action trigger mechanism; The open trigger could be cocked manually. Unlike the American revolvers on the “K” frame, which were analogous to the Brazilian models, their trigger mechanisms used a screw mainspring and an inertial firing pin.

To protect against accidental shots, a special element (plate) is connected to the trigger mechanism, transmitting the hammer blow to the inertial firing pin only when the trigger is fully pulled.

Open-type sights consist of a large rear-sloping front sight and an adjustable rear sight with a micrometer screw.

The handle linings were made of valuable hardwood.

Metal parts were made from high-quality weapon steel and had a special coating to protect against corrosion. The quality of finishing is quite high.

In the second half of the 1990s, the Taurus M 66 revolvers were modified. On the “new models” they installed a security lock with a locking trigger in the frame - this patented security system resembles a regular door lock and is operated by a miniature key. The drum capacity was increased to 7 rounds. The case for the extractor rod was extended to the muzzle, and the wooden cheek pads were replaced with wrappings made of thick rubber or plastic.

In 1997, the production of the “old model” Taurus M 66 revolvers was completely discontinued, and the production of “new models” was launched in versions with a barrel length of 102 mm (4”) and 152 mm (6”).

Taurus M 66 revolvers were available in blued finish and made of stainless steel. Depending on the materials used and the length of the barrel, a certain indexing of this weapon was adopted - for example, Model 66 SS 4 means that the revolver is made of stainless steel and has a 4-inch barrel, and Model 66 B 6 means that the revolver is blued and has barrel 6 inches long.

The weapon's markings consist of the inscription TAURUS on the barrel, the company's trademark on the frame and the word TAURUS with a bull's head on the medallion of the grip cheeks.

A distinctive feature of the Taurus M 66 revolvers is good workmanship and high reliability at fairly low prices. The 66th model at one time earned recognition not only as a police revolver, but also received demand in the commercial weapons market.

Self-defense weapon: Taurus 9mm PA revolver

The Taurus traumatic revolver is a five-shot self-defense weapon, classified as a firearm of limited destruction, chambered for a pistol cartridge with a 9mm RA rubber bullet. LLC Taurus revolvers are supplied to Russia by RossImportOruzhie, a company that sells civilian weapons and ammunition from well-known foreign manufacturers in the Russian Federation. The Taurus 9mm PA revolver currently sold was previously known as the Taurus LOM-13.

The traumatic Taurus is made according to the classic revolving design with a drum folding to the left. The frame and drum of the Taurus 9mm PA revolver are made entirely of steel, the surfaces are polished followed by bluing. This revolver is also available in stainless steel. The drum and barrel are non-removable, which is done to prevent this revolver from being adapted for firing live ammunition with hard bullets. The Taurus 9mm PA revolver uses 9mm PA pistol cartridges that do not have a flange.

To load weapons with them, plate clips with five rounds are used. Thanks to the use of clips, reloading a revolver is as time-consuming as reloading a modern pistol. The Taurus 9mm PA revolver can use a wide variety of 9mm PA cartridges. - both traumatic and noise, as well as gas. The 51 mm long barrel is made as a single piece, without the use of any inserts. The double-action trigger mechanism, with an open trigger, allows firing both by self-cocking and with pre-cocking of the hammer.

The Taurus 9mm PA revolver is not equipped with any mechanical safeties, which complicate the handling of the weapon, especially for inexperienced and insufficiently trained owners. The sighting devices are not adjustable and consist of a front sight made integral with the barrel with a transverse notch and a rear sight, which is a longitudinal groove in the upper surface of the revolver frame.

The buyer has the opportunity to purchase a revolver either with a standard compact handle or with an extended handle for a more stable grip. Thanks to the small dimensions of the drum and the absence of protruding parts with sharp edges, the Taurus 9mm PA OOOP revolver is convenient and invisible for constant concealed carry. It also has high operational strength and a long service life, can be worn in constant combat readiness, is reliable in operation, and has high shooting accuracy.

Taurus 9mm PA contents: cardboard box; product passport in Russian; three star clips; two keys with chains and key rings in a bag; brush; an orange plastic disc at the end of the drum; revolver packaging bag; revolver.

Advantages

Taurus pistols are very reliable. The quality of the products confirms the steady demand for the company’s weapons. In many countries around the world they have been adopted by law enforcement agencies.

The compactness of the weapon and its safety when carried and stored add to its attractiveness. For many residents of the American continent, the pistols of the company we are considering are an ideal weapon for self-defense.
