Hunting weapon Benelli (Argo)

Description

The Benelli Argo looks like a classic carbine equipped with modern technology. The build quality is at a high level, premium materials, unique design and careful execution of both parts and assembly. “Wood Touch” is an exclusive corrugation that accentuates the natural walnut (material) and provides comfort when held. The Benelli rifle model Argo e 308 is equipped with a durable black receiver coated with an oxide film. The cylinder on the trigger, which is responsible for turning, is equipped with three lugs that are triggered at the same time.

On the surface of the barrel box there is a steel cover on which an optical sight is mounted, making the shot as accurate as possible. The handguard is mounted on the surface of the box and does not affect the vibration produced after the shot. The Benelli carbine is recognized by experts as a multi-functional shotgun, thanks to a set of plates, an adjustable jaw and a butt release. The gun is equipped with an interchangeable aiming system.

Design

The Benelli hunting carbine model Argo e comfort 30-06 is equipped with a reloading system thanks to a gas piston. The barrel and box cover are removed. The trigger mechanism is not adjustable, the hook force parameter is 1.8 kg. In front of the trigger guard branch there is a fuse box. It looks like a small button that moves perpendicular to the barrel. Here are the levers for delaying the shutter and the mechanism for opening the magazine cover. The button is made of polymer.

The gas exhaust system was created thanks to the United States Marine Corps. In 1999, the organization announced a competition for the best semi-automatic smoothbore gun for hunting.

The Benelli Argo 5 stock is equipped with a comb, and the butt plate can be changed - it is made of rubber. Forend – casing of the gas exhaust mechanism. The sight attachments look like an adjustable rear sight, equipped with green fiber-optic fibers. There is an open type front sight with a red thread (beam). If desired, a bracket and rail for an optical sight can be installed on the Benelli carbine.

Performance characteristics

Benelli carbines are caliber 30-06. Operating principle of the Benelli Argo 5: the rotary-type shutter cylinder produces rigid locking. The gas exhaust system is automatic, the piston stroke is short. Total weight – 3, 300 g. Butt material: walnut. Trigger guard material: technical polymer, black, anodized. The receiver is matte, the raw material is Ergal. The length of the butt (from the trigger) is 355 mm, the retraction can be adjusted. The butt plate is made of durable rubber. The Benelli Argo carbine magazine has a capacity of up to 10 rounds.

Argo series of hunting rifles

The Benelli Armi factory lies in the vicinity of Urbino, a city where the history of the Montefeltro family is intertwined with a rich tradition of weapons making and a war in which the Montefeltro family earned a strong reputation for political foresight and awareness.
Benelli automatic shotguns with a steel receiver were marked standard, lusso, or an additional lusso if the receiver was matte and smooth, or the stock was engraved. Soon receivers were made of lightweight aluminum alloy due to its excellent performance characteristics. Only in 1973, in addition to 12 gauge weapons, 20 gauge was added. This delay was due to the fact that Benelli had to fully study, test and evaluate the new design for quite a long time before sending it into mass production. 20-gauge shotguns are as reliable as their big brothers, but the reduction in weight and size of parts, and the change in weight ratio, makes them more convenient than 12-gauge shotguns.

Argo

The company recently added a self-loading carbine to its arsenal; its name denotes the operating principle: ARGO - Auto Reloading Gas Operated. The carbine is created in full accordance with ergonomic requirements; even the complex butt plate-shock absorber absorbs recoil at the most loaded point of the end of the stock. Its streamlined shapes successfully conceal its dimensions.

In 2002, the Benelli arms company introduced its first rifled gun, the Benelli Argo.
The modern design immediately attracts attention, and the balance of the gun, combined with its compact size, ensures perfect placement in the shoulder. The Argo lays down intuitively and has good maneuverability. The main element of the rifled Benelli is forest hunting, where the main shooting distance is usually 150-200 meters. Today, Benelli Argo is presented in two calibers: 30-06 (7.62x63) and 300 WinMag (7.62x67). In the near future it is planned to expand the model range. In particular in terms of calibers. There is also the possibility of interchangeable barrels, which allows this model to be used as a universal gun for several calibers per license. NOTE:

Advantages and disadvantages

The Benelli carbine is characterized by the following advantages:

  • aesthetic appearance;
  • a specific system for removing gases. Due to its close location to the place with cartridges, it independently regulates the level of pressure and adapts to the types of bullets;
  • The chamber seal is of high quality.

There are also disadvantages to the Benelli Argo 5:

  • limited firing range (200 m);
  • small accuracy of combat;
  • There is no rigid connection on the barrel with the barrel box.

Kiowa and Uncle Lesha

(https://talks.guns.ru/forum/2/001355-2.html):

Uncle Lesha

Caliber 30-06. The machine is jumpy, flexible and dexterous. They didn’t buy it for me; I don’t accept machine guns for hunting. The carbine went with a friend to the Far East. There he will be fired upon. Probably Kiowa will write about this, he is sitting nearby, 2.5 meters from the owner of the benelka.

kiowa

The time has come, sir. After the first hunts, my friend arrived somewhat upset. Despite a killed deer, two wild boars and a crow shot down on a bet (a win of two hundred raccoons). The reason is a large pile and occasional detachments. Cartridge - S&B, bullet weight - 11 grams. Let's go together. They took the cartridges. Moreover, for fun, they also took Russian cartridges with sharp tips. The first result was somewhat discouraging. From a hundred meters from the machine, three series of Czech cartridges with three bullets each fell into a circle of 25 centimeters. At the same time, one gap was 40 centimeters. We were upset. Loaded a Russian cartridge. The Russian cartridge deafened everyone with the monstrous sound of the shot. The torch of flame that shot out of the muzzle flew out, in my opinion, one and a half meters and was noticeable in sunny weather. The spread is essentially the same. They shot five times, it was a pity for the money. They sat down and began to think. The sight was removed. The first feeling from shooting with an open sight while lying down from a rest with the famous Battu rail - what a disgusting thing this jellied fish of yours is! Maybe it’s good when shooting offhand in the thicket of the forest, but when you’re lying on a normal line - b-bbueeeee:. Still, there is nothing better than a good blackened military pin in a normal military scope saddle! The spread rolled out even more. We went to the hut, collected targets, and began to discuss. The first consideration is the general tendency for holes to extend vertically. The second consideration is the owner. Ammo sucks. The second consideration is mine. The cartridges hardly suck, something with either a bracket or a scope. It's a very light carbine and a very powerful cartridge. And the tendency to shift vertically looks very much like this. Nearby there is another ARGO carbine. It has Lupold optics and a bracket tightly screwed to the base. We take the same cartridges and offhand we get a pile of five cm. The cartridge is excluded. Yeah: Well, what a choice: Kron, a sight, or, scary to think, a carbine. To be continued.

Uncle Lesha

Mishka, as they honestly told Pashka at Arsenal, the Argo is a “two MOA carbine.” This is understandable, it was made for regional European hunts and, partly, for a tower. Hence the battyu, by the way. Why the hell is there more accuracy in a raid? In principle, this is a carbine for fast shooting at 150 meters. This is just a budget replacement for a double-barreled fitting. Hence all the attention is paid to quickness, agility and speed of grasping the target. You may ask, why in such a strange caliber - 30-06, and not 9 mm, which would be more logical for rifle fire? And because, probably, firstly, this is a “single-barrel automatic rifle” for hunting small Central European game - fallow deer, roe deer, deer, for which this cartridge is a clear over-kill, and therefore performs good stopper work, like normal rifles, secondly, in the West it is a very affordable and cheap cartridge, unlike most rifle cartridges, thirdly, this weapon under 30-06 is a prerequisite for getting into the American market with it, after all, it is the most common cartridge there, especially among reloaders. Almost all of this, especially first and second, I told Pakha, but will a young man in love listen to a diagnosis from the KVD about his object of passion?

kiowa

Yes, 2 MOA is normal, no one would mind... Are we Chechen snipers, or what? But 20 cm is not 2 MOA in any way. I continue. We unscrewed the sight bracket and turned it over with the mounts in the other direction. We got a line stretched vertically by 40 cm (a series of six shots), 2 cm wide. I keep thinking - the crown is to blame. The recipe is that the crowns should not be quickly removable, but tightly screwed on; the Zeiss Zoom optics should be replaced with a Lyupold constant quadruple lens. Still, this is probably not a carbine or cartridges. So it was decided.

Uncle Lesha

And I wouldn’t bother at all about the optical sight on the Argo. This is a carbine for short and medium ranges. Battyu, he is battyu. Pakha and I discussed this. I told him that this benelka is not a replacement for his Bar or Mannlicher, but in addition. There are trotting horses, and there are horse-drawn ones, and it’s no good idea to tuck an Akhal-Teke into the shafts, but to pile a saddle on a heavy truck. It’s not clear why there’s such a crap shoot from an open sight?

kiowa

In pursuit. We damn well didn’t like the fact that after firing Russian cartridges we had to paint the barrel for three days in a row - no matter what, corrosion stains crawled out on the damned black barrel, which had undergone the damned cryogenic treatment. Moreover, on the pack of cartridges it is written - non corrosive! Eventually. Impressions - albeit subjective. But the carbine is still good! In terms of ease and adaptability, there was nothing close to anything known to me. If it gave its 2 MOA, then it would be great. Feels like a shot. Despite its light weight and powerful cartridge, it is incomparably better than the KO-44. In return, at least. It has a special damper in the butt. Nice soft trigger, convenient safety, detachable magazine (which is important). In general, it’s a very thoughtful, competent gun. Again, easy to understand. Here. When it’s at 0.308, I’ll buy one too. That's right, Lyokha!

Disassembly and care

The Benelli rifle must be completely unloaded before disassembly. You need to open the bolt and carefully remove the forend, moving it forward. The barrel fixing cover opens, then you need to firmly press down the shutter lever and separate the barrel block. When the bolt is moved to its extreme position, remove the cocking bolt. After removing the locking head, you need to separate the bolt by rotating in a circle. Gently holding the spring and firing pin with your fingers, remove the firing pin from the bolt.

The next step is to remove the part of the lock head itself. Remove the magazine and trigger pin from the barrel box. Remove the trigger element by turning it relative to the recess for the pin. When the Benelli argo is completely disassembled, proceed with the cleaning procedure. It is recommended that you clean your gun after a day of shooting. Periodically it is necessary to clean off carbon deposits and lubricate the elements with weapons-grade lubricant. Parts that are exposed to oxygen especially need care.

The screws holding the gas exhaust cylinder on the Benelli Argo 5 are coated with a special varnish. Experts do not recommend touching or disassembling them - if the varnished surface is damaged, the warranty card will no longer be valid.
