Small-caliber rifle CZ ZKM 452 Scout: reviews, price, technical characteristics, review

Design

Gate

The shutter device consists of nine spare parts. The bolt stem is made of steel. Precision casting technology is used. Finally, mechanical processing is carried out. The only disadvantage of the bolt is its dimensions, which do not correspond to a small-caliber rifle. The advantages include high strength. If necessary, the owner can develop the bolt while hunting.

The stem performs many functions. Its design included a channel for the striker, a groove for the reflector and a forward groove. This is only part of the adaptations of the stem. The detailed structure can be found in the technical documentation of the gun. The stem does not rotate. A rotary coupling is attached to it, which ensures locking of the breech and cocking of the firing pin.

The CZ ZKM 452 coupling is produced in the same way as the stem: precision casting and subsequent machining. The coupling has lugs that are located symmetrically relative to each other. Planting on the stem is sliding. The screw surface of the coupling is responsible for cocking the hammer and eliminating the possibility of an accidental shot when the bolt is open.

The firing pin has a channel for the mainspring, a groove for the safety rod, a safety lug and a firing pin. This is done in a similar way to the stem and coupling. Experts recommend avoiding idling the trigger, as this can damage the firing pin.

The ejector and sleeve deflector are installed in an unconventional way. They are placed in longitudinal grooves, but are fixed not with pins, but with L-shaped hooks and C-shaped leaf springs. This design solution allows the ejector to be easily removed for cleaning.

Receiver

Made of steel. Since the locking occurs on the receiver, many experts were skeptical about the use of light alloy for the manufacture of this element of the CZ 452 ZKM carbine. It has a cylindrical shape. The wall thickness is suitable for the use of powerful Magnum ammunition. The large cross-section is responsible not only for strength, but also for bending and torsion, which affects shooting efficiency.

Dovetail grooves are provided for mounting optics. The guide has a width of 11 millimeters. Choosing a bracket is not difficult. The window for removing cartridges is located on the right. At the back there is an annular groove for the clutch lugs and cutouts for the trigger mechanism. The magazine connector is located at the bottom, there are also holes for mounting screws.

The receiver design provides for the presence of an insert. It is made using milling technology and subsequent processing at high temperatures. The reflector is stationary - the most popular solution for removing cartridges from the receiver.

The magazine shaft is placed in a connector located at the bottom of the box. It is made of nylon using casting technology. This approach determined high quality and reliability. Nylon can withstand severe frosts and is not afraid of organic solvents and oils. A spring-loaded magazine latch, made in the style of a Kalashnikov assault rifle, is placed in front of the shaft.

Shop

The manufacturer offers customers two types of magazines: 5 and 10 rounds. It is made using the same method and from the same material as the shaft. Disassembly of the magazine is standard; more details can be found in the documentation for the CZ 452 22LR.

The top of the magazine requires delicate work, as it is responsible for feeding the charge into the chamber. Difficulties in feeding are caused by the old design of the .22 LR case. The rear part is raised to the ramming line not by the feeder spring, but by two bevels that are located in front of the lips. For stable operation of this mechanism, the bevels are adjusted to maximum accuracy.

If the magazine were made by stamping from a steel sheet, it would stop working after a small push. The magazine of a Czech rifle is made of plastic and reinforced with steel reinforcement. Stable operation of the mechanism will occur until the plastic is erased from the bevels. Another advantage of this design solution is the absence of corrosion throughout the entire operational period.

Trigger

Made by analogy with the Wichester 70. The device is simple and reliable. It is based on a spring-loaded trigger and a self-release sear. There are no extra spare parts; the trigger mechanism does not even have a housing. This is possible due to the hook covering the sear on both sides - their axes are located on the same line.

The sear is responsible for holding the firing pin and limiting the bolt while moving to the rearmost position. The trigger is equipped with a pin that can turn off the sear. This is necessary to remove the shutter.

With this structure, the striker will be released under any climatic conditions and degree of contamination of the mechanism. The owner can adjust the trigger force. How this happens can be found in the technical documentation of the gun. The movement of the trigger is smooth and uniform, this is achieved through the use of a long trigger spring with a large starting point.

If you lack smoothness and uniformity, you can treat the engagement surface. This is done using thin sandpaper and lubricant with highly effective anti-friction additives. During surface treatment, care must be taken to ensure that the edges do not collapse.

Sighting mechanism

Presented in the form of front and rear sights. Both elements are well made. To adjust them you will need a chuck and a small screwdriver.

The base of the front sight is made of steel and pressed onto the barrel. The transition of the barrel to the base of the front sight is invisible unless you look closely. The front sight is mounted on a dovetail groove, which is placed in the upper part of the base. Height adjustment occurs by moving the front sight along the groove.

The spring earpiece is made of sheet steel. It is placed on special grooves that are made at the base of the front sight. This approach to the device makes it invisible during operation and easy to remove.

The sight is made of a sector type. It can be configured to fire at distances from 25 to 200 meters. One step is 25 meters. Adjusting the sight does not cause any difficulties for the shooter. Each position shows a value corresponding to the distance.

The rear sight with a semicircular slot is installed in a transverse groove, which is located in the rear of the sighting bar. Regulation occurs with two screws, which are screwed towards each other. All parts of the sighting mechanism are made of steel and ground. The main disadvantage of the system is its close location to the shooter's eye.

Lodge

Made from light-colored walnut wood and varnished. The convenient shape does not bother you during shooting. The notch is made on the neck of the stock. The grooves for metal components were made on special equipment with computer settings, which explains the high accuracy.

On the surface of the stock there is a plastic butt plate, a trigger guard with a lower cylinder and a sling swivel for attaching a belt. The butt plate looks acceptable, the appearance is spoiled by the trigger guard, which does not fit into the overall design and reduces the cost of the CZ ZKM 452 carbine. The swivel is presented in the form of a screw and a ring, and therefore requires constant monitoring and care.

Fuse

There is a safety on the bolt that, when activated, locks the firing pin. The mechanism is simple and reliable. When the safety is activated, the hammer is advanced one millimeter, creating a gap between the hammer and the sear. The fuse is activated by moving forward.

Similar models

  • The Canadian company Savage produces several variants of small-bore rifles chambered for the .22LR rimfire cartridge. For example, the Mark II FVXP model. A special feature of its trigger mechanism is the interceptor lever located in the slot of the trigger. You will not be able to fire a shot until it is pressed. The operating principle of its safety is similar to that used in the Mosin self-loading rifle: a “button” on the butt plate, pulled back and turned clockwise. Unlike the CZ ZKM 452 Scout, its bolt does not have lugs, and locking is done only with a handle placed in the groove of the receiver.
  • The North American company Ruger offers a small-bore rifle in a fashionable "high-tech" style. The Ruger SR-22 Rifle is somewhat similar to the M4 assault rifle. It has a sliding stock-rest and an aluminum alloy casing on the barrel, replacing the forend. Rotary magazine. But the main feature is that it is semi-automatic and has a blowback action. The rifle fires single shots, but the rate depends on the speed of pressing the trigger. The result is not very fast, but almost a queue. The Ruger SR-22 is not equipped with a full front sight, there is only a Picatinny rail for optics.
  • From the same CZ-452 series, in addition to the Scout carbine model, the CZ 452-2E ZKM Lux (22lr), CZ 452-2E ZKM STYLE, SILHOUETTE and Standart are popular with good reviews and prices. The CZ-550 rifle is no less in demand.
  • You can also consider other CZ models: , 527 Lux, .

We talk in detail about which carbine for hunting is better to choose separately.

Disassembling and assembling the shutter

Rotate the coupling relative to the stem and grasp the bolt securely. To recess the guide rod, it is necessary to rest the tool against a hard surface. In this position, the fuse is removed, which leads to the firing pin being released.

The role of the contactor is performed by the fuse rod. Once it is removed, you can remove the guide rod, mainspring, firing pin and clutch from the bolt stem. Finally, you need to remove the ejector and sleeve deflector. To do this, the leaf spring must be removed with a small screwdriver; the required elements will then fall out on their own.

Assembly is similar to disassembly. First, the ejector and sleeve deflector are installed. They can be distinguished by their width. The second stage - a coupling is put on the stem, then a firing pin, and a mainspring on it. The guide rod can be installed after the coupling has been moved to the closed position. To install the fuse, you will need to recess the guide rod.

Rules for safe use

The manufacturer provides rules for the safe operation of weapons:

  • You must always treat it as if the gun is loaded;
  • You can't aim at something or someone if you don't intend to shoot;
  • You need to verify the discharge yourself, even if the second person says that he has completed the discharge process;
  • The CZ 452 must be charged before being handed over to another person or before it is out of your line of sight;
  • Before storage, the trigger must be unloaded and released;
  • There is only one purpose - shooting, the carbine cannot be abused;
  • A loaded automatic rifle cannot be left unattended;
  • Before charging, you must ensure that the barrel and other components are in good working order. In order for all mechanisms to work stably, regular cleaning is required in accordance with the rules;
  • For shooting, you cannot use low-quality ammunition or those that are not suitable in caliber;
  • It is prohibited to consume alcohol or drugs during operation or before starting;
  • When shooting, it is recommended to use safety glasses and earplugs;
  • When removing the safety, you need to ensure a safe direction of the aiming line;
  • The cartridge ejection port must always be clean;
  • You can put your finger on the trigger only after the target has been selected;
  • In addition to choosing a target, you need to consider the area behind it. If you miss, you can hit an unwanted object;
  • It is prohibited to shoot at rocks or water;
  • Before cleaning the gun, make sure it is unloaded;
  • CZ 452 rifles should be stored in a metal safe separately from cartridges;
  • For safe operation, it is prohibited to make independent changes to the design.

The use of these rules limits the owner from unexpected situations that could lead to problems with the law.

Operating principle

  • The rifles have an in-line magazine, so loading through the cartridge ejector window is possible with only one cartridge. The magazine is removed by pressing the latch located in front of it on the forend. The cartridges are placed in it from the front edge to the rear. The previous ones must be pressed in with your finger. The magazine flanges hold the cartridge case at the last third of its length.
  • The magazine is installed in place with a characteristic click. After this, you can open the shutter and pull it back. The role of the magazine cut-off is played by the ridge on the lower stem of the bolt. He also pushes the cartridge out of the magazine, after which it is fed into the chamber. The firing pin is cocked when the bolt handle is turned down.
  • To put the safety on, move the flag on the butt plate forward. So that the red dot closes. The trigger is also blocked.
  • When storing a weapon, you must unload the rifle: remove the magazine, open the bolt and make sure there is no cartridge in the chamber. While pushing the bolt forward, keep the trigger pressed to prevent the firing pin from cocking.

Setting up the sighting mechanism

Factory settings provide high-quality shooting at a distance of 50 meters. Self-adjustment is possible for firing at a distance from 25 meters to 200 meters. One step of the sighting mechanism is 25 meters.

You can move the rear sight to the desired value after pressing the lock button. Horizontal adjustment is carried out using two screws that move towards each other. After fully turning the screw, the aiming point shifts by 5 centimeters, which is equal to 50 meters.

The front sight is responsible for adjusting the elevation. Before adjusting the elevation, you need to loosen the screw and then place it on the desired auxiliary line. An offset of one notch moves the aiming point 50 meters.

Main features CZ 457 series

Positive safety

The silent, positive safety allows natural and intuitive control of the firearm with a design that engages when pulled back to the shooter and released when pushed away from the shooter, thereby contributing to safe and comfortable handling.

Separate bolt removal control

The bolt can be extracted from the receiver without the need to pull the trigger. A separate and easily accessible control allows for the convenient and complete removal of the bolt for cleaning.

Open and remove bolt even with safety engaged

The bolt can be opened and removed even with the safety engaged, so you can safely check the condition of the firearm or unload it without having to release the safety.

Striker status indicator

The indicator features reliable detection of a cocked firing mechanism and can be checked both visually and by touch, which is advantageous when shooting in dim light or at night.

Adjustable trigger mechanism

The adjustable trigger mechanism allows you to precisely tailor the firearm to your needs. Trigger pull is preset to 12 N at the factory, but it can be easily adjusted from 8–15 N. Trigger travel can also be adjusted from 0.5–5 mm.

Lighter striker for increased speed and reduced vibration during firing

Striker weight has been reduced by 38% compared to the previous model, thereby preventing even the smallest vibration that could affect shooting accuracy. The striker is also modified for resistance to dry training.

New type of bedding for constant tightening of screws in stock

The bedding significantly contributes to long-term shooting accuracy and stability of attachment of the mechanism in the stock. It largely eliminates the effects of wood expansion under fluctuating temperatures, therefore remaining correctly sighted-in for longer periods of time and allowing you to shoot extremely accurately.

60° rotation of bolt handle

Bolt rotation has been shortened to 60°, which allows for convenient, smooth and quick reloading of the weapon, especially when optical sights are mounted.

New ergonomic stocks

The CZ 457 rimfire rifle series offers a wide range of stocks. The various options, shapes and materials have a strong emphasis on ergonomics, comfort and convenience of the shooter. You are sure to find one that fits you best.

Easy barrel replacement for quickly changing calibers

The improved modular system of the CZ 457 allows for the use of barrels in various calibers from the previous CZ 455 series, as well as barrel replacement with the use of CZ mini-sets. You can completely customize the firearm to your needs.

Cold hammer forged barrel

The most demanding, precise and expensive method of cold forging the barrel bore directs the flow of fibers, which positively affects the barrel's accuracy and service life.

Match chamber on selected models

Selected .22 LR caliber models, such as the CZ 457 MTR, have a Match cartridge chamber at the very edge of the CIP tolerance. Precision manufacturing and low tolerances provide an excellent accuracy of 1 MOA, depending on the ammunition used.

Cleaning other parts

To clean the remaining components, you can use a dry cloth, toothbrush, copper brush or wooden scraper. Oil or kerosene can be used as mixtures. It is prohibited to use the solution used to wash a dirty barrel. It can cause rust. At the end of the process, it is recommended to check whether small particles of the cleaning tool remain on the rifle parts.

Features of the CZ ZKM 452 stock

The stock is made of high-quality walnut wood, and this wood is of light shades, and covered with several layers of varnish. The gun is very flexible, which allows people with different anatomical features to shoot from the carbine without experiencing any particular discomfort. The neck of the rifle stock has a notch that prevents your hand from slipping.

The stock is equipped with the following additional components:

  • Plastic butt plate;
  • Swivel swivel for attaching a weapon belt;
  • Trigger guard with lower cylinder.

The trigger guard does not fit into the design of the rifle and significantly reduces the appearance of the product.

Description of the carbine CZ ZKM 452 Scout

A small-caliber repeating rifle with a longitudinally sliding bolt having two lugs, chambered for the .22 LR rimfire cartridge.

  • The barrel is cold forged and has sixteen shallow right-hand rifling designed to accommodate a soft, jacketless lead bullet.
  • All metal parts, except the bolt stem, are blued.
  • The stock is semi-pistol, made of solid walnut wood, varnished.
  • The stock has a curved comb (boar's back), an elegant fore-end with a rosette finish.
  • A pair of external sighting devices is complemented by recessed grooves on the upper edge of the receiver, forming a kind of dovetail strip on which an optical sight can be mounted.

Review and assembly of the CZ 452 ZKM Scout carbine is presented in this video:

Advantages and disadvantages

Despite its miniature size and seemingly frivolous caliber, this is a full-fledged high-quality rifle.

  • A five-round removable magazine, which can be replaced with a ten-round magazine if desired.
  • A bolt with two lugs that locks the barrel even with excessive reliability for such a cartridge.
  • A fuse that blocks the firing pin and, indirectly, through the sear, the trigger. This makes the gun safe enough to be trusted by teenagers.
  • It is possible to install an optical sight, which, with an effective firing range of 50 meters, may seem unnecessary, but it increases interest in the weapon, which has all the combat options.
  • An impeccably crafted stock, perfectly adjusted proportions, making it convenient for offhand shooting. The absence of a shock-absorbing butt pad cannot be considered a disadvantage, since there is no recoil as such. Coating the stock with varnish makes it somewhat impractical to use. It can scratch and peel off over time, which worsens its appearance.

The barrel has good ballistic qualities, the rifle's combat is compact and predictable.

  • The rifle's trigger mechanism is very simple. It consists of a trigger, one sear and a return spring. The resistance of the striker spring is overcome with little effort. However, the trigger process is not forgiving of mistakes, which is even good for training inexperienced shooters who need to develop the skill of smooth pressing.
  • The trigger travel can be adjusted, but to do this you need to separate the receiver from the stock.

The price of a rifle can be intimidating; not everyone is willing to pay almost forty thousand rubles for a “toy.”

Photo of the CZ 452 SCOUT carbine

Purpose

Due to the short barrel, the rifle's sighting range is limited to fifty meters.

  • To a greater extent, it is a training weapon that can be used as a sports equipment for shooting at short distances.
  • However, the stopping power of a .22 LR caliber bullet allows you to hunt small fur-bearing animals like martens or squirrels, which allow the hunter to get quite close.

Varieties

  • The rifle is available with a boar's back stock and external sights,
  • and in the “American” style, characterized by a straight ridge of the butt, parallel to the axis of the barrel, and the absence of a rear sight with a front sight.
