Judging by the reviews, air guns are very popular. This explains why the question of which air rifle is better to choose has become very relevant for beginners. It is worth noting that wind weapons are considered relatively safe, since they are characterized by not too high destructive power. These shooting models are presented in a wide range on the shelves of specialized stores. It is not surprising why it is not difficult for a beginner, who does not know by what criteria to evaluate wind weapons, to get confused. You will learn about which air rifle is better to choose from this article.

About the caliber of wind weapons

Which air rifle to choose? The fact is that buyers are presented with rifle products whose calibers are 4.5 mm, 5.5 mm and 6.35 mm. “Blowguns” with the smallest caliber are intended mainly for recreational shooting. This is the most popular product. In addition, such “pneumatics” are relatively inexpensive. Which is the best air rifle for hunting? In this case, experts recommend models of 5.5 and 6.35 mm caliber. With such a blowgun you can successfully hunt squirrel, rabbit, duck and hare. Products with a caliber of 6.35 mm are characterized by quite a lot of power. It is worth noting that some manufacturers do not always indicate the actual power in the instructions. In this case, focus on the initial speed of the projectile when leaving the barrel channel.

Pre-pumped (PCP)

Biathlon type cocking (SL). The service life of the HP tank is 300 atm, and the volume is 250 cm³. A Hill MK4 pump with a dryer is suitable for air injection. About the mass of rifle units

Which air rifle is better to choose so that it is convenient to use and shooting is a pleasure? According to weapons experts, the less the blower weighs, the more it vibrates when fired. A pneumatic gun with too much weight will tire the shooter. Especially if you need to cover long distances. Due to the fact that you have to walk a lot when hunting, for this purpose it is advisable to take with you a weapon that is lighter. If the place for using the pneumatic gun is a shooting range, then the mass of the shooting unit does not matter.

Umarex Hummer

This repeating air rifle with a muzzle energy of 955 J is considered the most powerful in the world. It is noteworthy that this figure in the AK-74 is 1300 J. The energy source in the “pneumatic” is air contained under a pressure of 306 atmospheres in a carbon reservoir with a capacity of 400 ml. For the manufacture of the fore-end, butt, stock and other elements, the manufacturer uses Nymax supermaterial. Thanks to the 750 mm barrel, the accuracy of the fire is 2.5 cm from a distance of 40 meters. The undoubted advantage of this model is the ability to shoot in automatic mode. “Pneumatic” is equipped with a specially designed chamber, thanks to which you can fire no more than three shots without reloading. The only drawback of the rifle unit is its high cost. You can become the owner of a blowgun for 19 thousand rubles.

Crosman F-4 NP

Which air rifle is best for beginners? Such a consumer can be recommended to acquire this American-made nitro-piston shooting model. It is noteworthy that before firing the piston is filled with nitrogen, which in its effect is no weaker than a coiled spring. It is worth noting that you can keep this gun with a 47-centimeter barrel cocked for a long time, since this will not affect the speed of the projectile in any way. Due to this technology, the recoil of the weapon is reduced and the noise produced is reduced by 30%. A product with a breakable barrel and a plastic stock. Mounting of optics is carried out using the classic dovetail mechanism. The oven weighs 2.9 kg. According to experts, this figure for air guns is considered quite significant. However, due to its large mass, this model has minimal vibration, which has a positive effect on combat accuracy. This “air blower” has a maximum energy of 23.9 J. The projectile per second can cover a distance of 365 m. The cost of the “pneumatic gun” is within 9 thousand rubles.

With pneumatics on a duck

Hunting tactics

You can use rubber ducks by placing them along the edges of rivers or canals and wait for the real life to react to them. But, as practice shows, few people do this. Most often, it is enough to simply walk around all the banks of rivers, large puddles or canals. It is best to do this in the spring, since at this time the mating games of ducks begin. At this time, birds allow people closer than usual.

In addition, you need to remember the places where ducks were last seen and return to these places several times in one day. In addition, it is worth paying attention to the thick horizontal branches of trees that grow right next to a lake or river. Ducks are quite capable of sitting on fairly wide branches of these trees.

How to properly aim at a swimming duck

It would seem that hitting a slowly swimming duck would be easy, but it is not. In this position, a large number of feathers form a dense layer, which is quite difficult to penetrate with an air gun.

A few rules for those who hunt a swimming duck for the first time:

  1. In order to hit the animal with the first shot, you need to aim slightly below the game.
  2. If the object of the hunt is sitting quietly on the shore, then you need to aim exactly at the middle of the body.
  3. If a duck swims with its head towards the hunter, under no circumstances should you shoot in the chest. These animals have very dense skin, down and feathers.
  4. The best place to shoot a swimming duck is from the back or side.

How to properly aim at a flying duck

To hit a flying duck you will need a lot more experience, because this object is in motion. In order to increase your chances of hitting the animal, you need to shoot a little further than the body of the duck itself. This is explained by the same movement and the fact that several seconds will pass between the shot and the moment when the bullet reaches its destination.

For a more accurate shot, it is necessary to take into account the flight speed of the bird, the speed of the bullet and the distance between the hunter and the prey. It is recommended to aim at the animal's head.

How to make hunting more effective

The first thing you need to do to increase the amount of game you receive is to discover its location. This will help you accurately choose a place for an ambush from where it will be convenient to fire. It is worth considering that the ambush site should be downwind relative to the location of the ducks.

If you plan to hunt not from the shore, but from a boat, then it is necessary to firmly settle the boat or drive it into the reeds so that it does not wobble when fired. In order to achieve an even greater effect, you can pre-build a small shelter on the shore that will blend into the surrounding landscape. Firing from such cover will greatly increase the amount of loot.

Hatsan 125 Magnum

Judging by numerous reviews, this single-shot rifle from Turkish designers is very popular. The 4.5 mm spring-piston type blowgun is equipped with a 500 mm barrel and a plastic butt. If you wish, you can equip this weapon with any other optics you like. The shooting product is suitable for both entertainment and training shooting. You can also hunt small game with this rifle. According to the owners, the weapon is easy to disassemble. This does not require serious physical effort or special tools. To prevent failure of the spring and cuff, remove preservative grease from the oven before use. If you want to upgrade your blowgun, equip it with a gas spring or adjust the length of the butt. Externally, this model looks very impressive, but has quite a strong impact. This rifle unit costs around 17 thousand rubles.

Crosman Fury NP

It is worth noting that this spring-piston type air rifle is equipped not with a classic metal spring, but with a gas spring, thanks to which the fired projectile is accelerated to 365 m/s. This figure is higher than that of PM. In the combat Makarov, the bullet moves at a speed of 320 m/s. Pneumatic caliber - 4.5 mm. The manufacturer uses high-quality rubberized plastic for the manufacture of the butt, forend and pistol grip, and reliable steel alloys for other parts. Thanks to the corrugated surface, the weapon does not slip in your hands. The rifled barrel is equipped with a plastic muzzle, the purpose of which is to increase combat accuracy. This is a rifle with a manual flag-type safety. You can adjust the trigger if necessary. Thanks to the high level of contrast that plastic sights have, the weapon is convenient to use in poor lighting conditions. The disadvantage of this model is that if you need to make repairs, you may have problems with spare parts. Some owners note that cocking the weapon requires physical effort and often requires tightening the mounting bolts. The price of this “pneumatic” is 9 thousand rubles.

Due to the presence of a muzzle, shooting accuracy is increased and noise is reduced. There is a metal front sight on the muzzle. The only drawback of this “pneumatic” is that the trigger is located very close to the automatic safety. As a result, you have to remove the safety and shoot with one finger, which is not very convenient. In general, this model is in great demand and costs 15 thousand rubles.

Features of hunting with air guns

Hunting ducks with air rifles requires one very important quality - accuracy. It is this feature that is very important when hunting these birds and in general when hunting with pneumatics. It is very important to hit the prey directly in the head in order to kill it with the first shot, and not wound it. It is believed that it is best to shoot a flying duck at a distance of 30-35 m between the hunter and the prey.

To improve your shooting accuracy, it is recommended to regularly train your accuracy at the shooting range. Hunting for males of this species is permitted both in spring and autumn. But females can only be shot in the fall, since they hatch eggs in the spring.

Hatsan Striker Edge

Which pneumatics should I choose for use at the shooting range? It is best for such a consumer to opt for this Turkish-made model. Moreover, this blower is also recommended by experts for beginners and hunters of birds and small fur-bearing animals. The caliber of the blowgun is 4.5 mm. Judging by numerous reviews from owners, Hatsan Striker Edge has good accuracy and a long service life. The speed of the fired projectile is 305 m/s.

However, if you become the owner of this shooting unit, you will sometimes have to change the spring and cuff, since these elements often fail. In addition, due to the impact of recoil, you will periodically have to work on the screws, namely, tighten them. Before you start shooting, remove the factory lubricant from the inner surface of the barrel. To treat the cuff, the manufacturer uses a special preservative oil, resulting in a diesel effect during shooting. It should disappear in a few days. The product costs up to 8 thousand rubles. Judging by the reviews of the owners, this blowgun with a muzzle energy of 7.5 J is one of the best budget air rifles. Which model is better to choose so that a license is not required? More on this below.

What to choose and for what purposes

How to choose pneumatics suitable for multi-purpose tasks? Read the article to the end.

According to the principle of operation, air vent models are divided into 3 types:

  • gas cylinders (CO2);
  • spring-piston (PPP);
  • with pre-pumping air (PCP).

Samples differ in price, technical characteristics, as well as purposes of application:

  1. Entertaining shooting.
All types of pneumatics with a power of up to 7.5 J and a barrel diameter of no more than 4.5 mm (.177) are suitable for shooting down stationary targets (glass jars, bottles, cardboard packages). No license or permit required. Before purchasing, it is important to select the “firing” distance in advance. If the distance is only 10-15 meters, then you need to choose a CO2 model. For shooting up to 50 meters, airgunners prefer PPP or PCP. The latter type is not suitable for everyone due to the high price tag. The cheapest, but less powerful option is carbon dioxide.
  2. Sport.
Precision shooting is important in competitions. PSP rifles are ideal. The presence of a biathlon cocking mechanism will allow the shooter to keep the target in sight. PPP is also suitable, but more for amateur competitions and training. For professional sports, pneumatics with a muzzle energy of over 7.5 J are used. Their feature is the smoothness of the trigger, which reduces the likelihood of correcting the trajectory of a flying bullet. It is allowed to buy such rifles with a license and sports passport.
  3. Hunting.
The buyer will be able to choose 2 types of pneumatics for this purpose - PPP and PCP with a barrel diameter greater than 5.5 mm (.22). The owner of a new weapon may need to increase its power to the legally permitted values (25 J). Reinforced air vents are prohibited from being used without permission. Hunting air rifles are sold with a hunter's license and ticket.

Reference.

According to the Federal Law “On Weapons”, pneumatics up to 3 J are not a weapon, but a product structurally similar to it (KSOI). Sold freely, not subject to registration.

Pneumatics up to 3 J are considered light. All 4.5mm types are designed for fun and sport. PCP rifles also belong to the KSOI, regardless of the barrel diameter. Manufacturers make minor changes to the design so that the “air” is within the legal framework. For recreational shooting, the muzzle velocity of the ammunition does not play a big role.

When hunting, accuracy, speed and noiselessness of shooting are important. Spring-piston models are inferior to their analogues with pre-pumping in all of the listed parameters. “Magnum” class “fractures” suffer from double recoil: the rifle is pulled forward after the piston hits the cylinder wall, then back - from the push of the bullet flying out of the barrel. The projectile's flight path changes and accuracy decreases.

PPPs are mainly single-charge devices. You can forget about rapid fire. Another drawback is the characteristic sounds and vibrations of the moving parts, which can scare away game.

PCP rifles are worth the money, but they are important to set up correctly. This type of weapon will please the shooter with low recoil, noiselessness, and rate of fire. The downside is the need to carry a pump or a high pressure (high pressure) filling cylinder with you.

Hatsan 125 F and Gamo Hunter 1250 F

Those who are interested in which is the best air rifle to choose without a license should consider shooting models whose power does not exceed 7.5 J. For example, a weakened blowgun from the Turkish manufacturer Hatsan 125 is very popular. This product differs from the original version by the presence of the F index. In its standard assembly, the Hatsan 125 has a power of 30 J. In order to sell the product without violating the “Weapons Law” in force in Russia, the manufacturer installs a low-power spring on the pneumatic gun instead of the standard one. It is noteworthy that the original spring is included with the product. You can also purchase a Spanish-made Gamo Hunter 1250 F air rifle. With a standard spring, the pneumatic power is 32 J. With a replaced spring, this figure is reduced to 7.2 J. Both of these models cost around 16 thousand rubles.

What does the legislation say about hunting with air guns?

There is an opinion that it is impossible to engage in this type of activity in Russia with pneumatics. This is an incorrect statement. There is even a separate article allowing the shooting of crows or stray dogs with pneumatic weapons. Hunting with an air rifle is permitted on the territory of the Russian Federation if you have a hunter's license, as well as a weapons permit.

However, it is worth mentioning that you do not need a permit for pneumatic weapons whose power is below 7.5 Joules, but you will not be able to hunt with such a tool. But from 7.5 Joules to 25 Joules a weapons permit is already required. In addition to these regulations, there is also a rule that hunting with air guns is prohibited at a distance closer than 200 m to the nearest populated area.
