Orsis K15 Brother: the closest relative of the Kalashnikov with an equally impressive history

ORSIS is a manufacturer that has long established itself as one of the best on the international arms market. Without exaggeration, he raised the Russian arms industry to a pedestal. The company produces guns for all kinds of needs - civilian and military - so the product line is particularly diverse and even rich. Many descendants of sniper and assault rifles (super-automatic rifles) are used by shooters for commercial and amateur hunting. Let's figure out who exactly has become the hunters' favorite among the ORSIS line!

General information about the manufacturer and design

The ORSIS company produces weapons for civilian and military buyers, organizations and individuals in Russia and friendly countries. One of the favorites of hunters was the Orsis k 15 “Brother” model, which among buyers began to be called “the brother of Kalashnikov.” This model is the latest semi-automatic rifled weapon for hunting, training and entertainment, practice shooting and self-defense. Produced at, located in Moscow. The production of weapons of this model began quite recently - at the beginning of 2022.

Development of the carbine intensified thanks to orders from numerous retailers and shooting clubs. The entire ORSIS hunting line inherited from its ancestor - the sniper rifle - accuracy, reliability and high firing range. This is why many experienced hunters like to mention the “sniper makings” of the Orsis k15.

The semi-pistol type stock is made of walnut wood. The butt is straight, has no protruding ridges and no cheek pad. The butt plate is non-adjustable, made of rubber. The notch on the stock is made in the form of “fish scales”. Characterized by ergonomic handle shapes and high quality forend.

The model is produced on the basis of a multi-shot weapon with a longitudinally sliding bolt with two lugs. The bolt has a three-position safety - this is a characteristic feature of the ORSIS k-15 “Brother” product. Even in the basic configuration, the high-quality metal of the barrel is additionally coated with a proprietary mixture, which, like ceramics, increases the wear resistance of the muzzle channel.

This rifled carbine can have the following caliber chambered for:

  • .233 REM (Remington 5, 56x45);
  • .243 WIN (Winchester 6, 2x52);
  • .308 WIN (Winchester 7.62x51) – hunting version;
  • .308 WIN (Winchester 7.62x51) – sporting design.

The basic version comes without sights - they will have to be purchased separately.

Equipment and cost

The purchased item is transported in a hard plastic case, no matter if it is a rifle, pistol, shotgun or any other carbine from the manufacturer. The standard delivery includes the following:

The standard delivery includes the following:

the rifle itself;

weapon passport;

a set of keys for adjusting the trigger.

Prices for the rifle are relatively low for a product of such accuracy and reliability. The cost ranges from 250 to 300 thousand rubles.

Among domestic products, Orsis “five thousand” has no analogues, however, the closest versions can be found from foreign manufacturers:

The design and calibers used are very similar to the Austrian sniper SSG-8 (Steyr Mannlicher). It features a bolt action and folding stock made from an aluminum alloy. Weight reaches 5.7 kilograms.

Less similar to the Orsis is the large-caliber (12.7 mm) North American sniper M-93 from Harris Gunwork with manual reloading. This model has an orthopedic wooden butt like the SVD. The total length is 1371 mm, and the weight is more than 10 kilograms. This weapon can be used to conduct targeted fire at a distance of about three kilometers!

The Orsis company itself also has very worthy models in addition to the “five thousandth”, for example, Alpin, AR-10, Hunter-M.

Government snipers in Iraq continue to use the Russian ORSIS T-5000 precision rifle. Thus, in the famous Iraqi group Tactical Cell on Facebook, a photo of a fighter with this weapon taken in December appeared.

As military expert Yuri Lyamin said, the first images of this Russian sniper rifle in Iraq began to actively appear in the first half of 2014. First of all, they came to the disposal of the most elite security structure in Iraq - the special forces of the Counter-Terrorism Service.

Performance characteristics

The weapon has excellent parameters, which is why it is popular among professional hunters.

Technical characteristics of the basic configuration of the Orsis k15 “Brother” hunting version:

  • weight with an empty magazine without a sight - 4.5 kilograms;
  • length of the rifle when unfolded is 109 cm;
  • barrel length (mm/inch) – 508/20;
  • number of grooves – 4;
  • rifling pitch - 11 inches;
  • trigger force (N/kgf) – 15-25/1.53-2.5;
  • sight – rail for one optics (optional);
  • effective (sighting) range - 800 meters;
  • ammunition capacity (cartridge) - magazine for 10 combat units.

The sports modification is lighter, ergonomic, short when folded (only 89 cm), and has an additional “layer” of protective enamel on the body.

Thanks to the highest quality workmanship, the tool can withstand temperature fluctuations from +50 to -50 ºС. The design of the Orsis carbine does not even care about special operating conditions - gas pollution, high pressure, the presence of dense, including chemically aggressive fog. Such a super-resistant “monster” will withstand even a sandstorm and a long polar night! A single shot is fired accurately and accurately under any conditions: the weapon is tolerant of any unpredictable events.

Carbine ORSIS-K15 “Brother”

The universal tactical self-loading carbine ORSIS-K15 “Brother” is one of the new products of the Russian arms company ORSIS. The carbine was first presented to the public at the ARMS and Hunting 2022 arms exhibition in Moscow. Also in February 2022, the company presented a new product at the ORSIS showroom, after which it demonstrated it at many exhibitions, including IWA 2022 in Nuremberg in March 2022 and Defexpo India 2022 in India in April of this year. The manufacturer positions this carbine as a civilian weapon intended for hunting and sport shooting.

It is possible that over time this model of Russian small arms will also be of interest to representatives of law enforcement agencies; it is no coincidence that the carbine is regularly exhibited at defense exhibitions. The performance characteristics of the carbine declared by the manufacturer also do not exclude its use by the military. ORSIS claims that the carbine is able to operate in a temperature range from +50 to -50 degrees Celsius, as well as in special conditions: rain, snow, mud, sand should not be a particular hindrance for the shooter.

The layout of the carbine is based on the AR-15 platform, but there are a number of significant design differences, including a two-position gas regulator, the use of a gas engine with a short stroke of the gas piston, and a rotary bolt with two lugs. The metal parts of the “Brother” carbine are made of aluminum alloys and high-strength structural steels, and the plastic elements are made of glass-filled polyamide. The use of such materials in the design makes the carbine quite light and reliable in operation.

The bolt of the ORSIS-K15 carbine is locked by rotating two lugs, while the design ensures rigid reflection of the spent cartridge case. It is possible to install the weapon reloading handle on both the right and left sides, at the request of the shooter (the basic configuration is a right-handed group (right/right port). The design of the carbine uses a double-sided two-position safety (fire and safety); there is a Picatinny-type rail for mounting modern optical sights and tactical body kit; the shaft is unified for MAGPUL magazines; a two-position gas exhaust engine with the ability to adjust.

In addition to all of the above, the design features of the new ORSIS carbine include the fact that it is possible to install butts of different designs on weapons using an additional adapter (telescopic, folding or rigid). Depending on the configuration of the weapon, the carbine is equipped with a one- or two-sided magazine release button. The seat on the muzzle of the “Brother” carbine is unified with the world-famous AR series carbines.

As ORSIS test shooter Dmitry Kuznetsov told RIA Novosti, the company’s main know-how is barrel processing technology. “There are three methods: forging, mandreling and the single-pass cutting method. Most of our competitors in the small arms market use the first two methods, but ORSIS decided to focus on the third method. A special cutter, called a trellis, processes one rifling for each pass through the bore. In total, about 80-100 passes of the trellis are required. This technology allows the Russian manufacturer of high-precision weapons to obtain an almost ideal barrel bore geometry at the output, and this, in turn, has a positive effect on the accuracy and accuracy of the weapon when firing.”

The declared accuracy of fire for the ORSIS-K15 "Brother" carbine at a distance of 100 meters does not exceed one minute of angle (MOA - Minute of angle), this is a very good value for civilian semi-automatic weapons. Simply put, if a trained shooter fires the entire carbine magazine at one point, then the distance between the furthest holes on the target should be only 2.9 centimeters. For a semi-automatic carbine, which in the sport shooting version has a barrel length of only 405 mm, this is an outstanding result.

“No less important for any professional shooter - no matter whether he is military or civilian - is the ability to customize the carbine for himself,” explains Dmitry Kuznetsov. “The ORSIS-K15 has everything in order with the possibility of tuning. On the cover of the carbine receiver there is a Picatinny rail designed for mounting various modern sights. The weapon receiver itself is made of two parts, similar to the AR series carbines - thanks to this solution, sighting devices do not need to be removed when cleaning and disassembling the weapon. The bolt handle of the “Brother” carbine can be installed on the left or right at the customer’s request. The carbine safety is also double-sided. The buttstock is adjustable, but it is possible to install any other one to suit your taste. The same applies to the muzzle brake-compensator.” The basic configuration uses the ORSIS model 008 muzzle brake-compensator.

A RIA Novosti correspondent, who tested the K-15 carbine in action and had never fired a sniper weapon before, noted that this model made a frankly pleasant impression on him. According to him, the ORSIS-K15 “Brother” is ergonomic, grippy and, like all truly high-quality weapons, beautiful. At the same time, he noted the impressive weight of the carbine - more than 5 kg with an installed optical sight. It’s a bit heavy for an untrained person, although for a sniper weapon this is not considered a disadvantage, since shooting is usually carried out from a rest or from a short bipod located under the fore-end. Also, the large weight of the weapon partially compensates for the recoil when fired.

For the ORSIS-K15 “Brother” carbine, the manufacturer stated a price of 200,000 rubles in the basic configuration. The price is quite steep; the civilian weapons market offers a large number of semi-automatic carbines at a much lower cost, but most of them are significantly inferior to the “Brother” in accuracy and accuracy of fire. ORSIS announced the availability of a universal tactical self-loading carbine chambered for 7.62x51 mm (.308 Win) for sale at the end of January 2022. The message indicated that the price for the first 100 copies of the carbine was 200,000 rubles, and the company also promised pleasant bonuses to the first 100 buyers of the new product. In the basic configuration, customers have access to a carabiner with a black, corrosion-resistant Cerakote – Black Graphite coating.

Tactical and technical characteristics of ORSIS-K15 “Brother” (data from the official website): Caliber – .308 Win (7.62x51). Barrel length – 508 mm (hunting version), 405 mm (sports version). Features of operation

The model is positioned as a budget rifled weapon for “advanced” hunting enthusiasts. The price for an almost “sniper” is really low - in the range of 59-70 thousand rubles. ORSIS K-15 always receives rave reviews from customers. The carabiner is also very easy to maintain and use.

Assembly and disassembly:

  1. Install the bolt into place by inserting it into the hole on the buttplate of the receiver and pushing forward.
  2. Press the locking lever located to the left of the receiver and tilt the butt down so that the bolt falls out on its own.

When disassembling and reassembling, it is necessary to take into account that the stock, barrel and trigger mechanism must be connected by two bolts, the heads of which are located behind the trigger guard.
