Description
The high-precision universal rifle Orsis T-5000 M was first presented at the international arms exhibition “Russia Arms Expo” (“Russian Arms Exhibition in Nizhny Tagil”) in 2011. It is produced by the Moscow Armory (from the Russian "ORSIS" - "Weapon Systems"), which is part of the industrial group. This model is intended for universal use - sports shooting, hunting, and can also be used by snipers of special units of law enforcement agencies and the army. The rifle is made exclusively for accurate shooting, has one of the highest levels of comfort for the shooter in the initial process - in preparation for the shot, in the shooting phase itself - at the moment of the shot and recoil, as well as a fairly quick return to the aiming line, the highest reliability and excellent ergonomics.
The Orsis T-5000 M is a high-precision repeating rifle with a longitudinally sliding rotary bolt, manual reloading and a double-lug bolt group, manufactured in five different calibers and has an effective firing distance of up to 1500 m:
- 308 Win.(7.62 x 51.0 mm) – up to 800 m
- .260 Rem. – up to 1000 m
- .6.5 x 47 Lapua – up to 1000 m
- .300 Win.Magnum (7.62 x 67.0 mm) – up to 1200 m
- .338 Lapua Magnum (8.6 x 70.0 mm) - up to 1500 m
When developing the bolt circuit, the developments of well-known weapons manufacturers - the American and German "Mauser" were used. The result was a fairly successful “compromise” scheme between the Remington 700 and Mauser 98 repeating rifles.
The original design of the bolt group used on this model of Orsis rifles is very reliable, relatively simple in design, and allows for safe and normal operation even in the event of a significant excess of powder gas pressure. All this is proven by special tests carried out at the manufacturer.
Rolling bolt of the Orsis T-5000 M rifle
The sliding rotary bolt of the Orsis T-5000 M rifle has a combat cylinder with two lugs located in front, special cylindrical cutouts for the ejector and the bottom of the cartridge case, and a channel for the firing pin inside the frame. A spring-loaded reflector is mounted directly into the bolt, which pushes the cartridge case out of the window in the receiver after it is removed from the chamber. All this allows recharging to be carried out almost silently. Making the bolt relatively large in size provides it with additional strength and strengthens the barrel locking unit itself. In the bolt stem there are also visible holes for the release of powder gases if they pass through the sleeve or chamber.
High-precision barrel Orsis T-5000 M made of special stainless steel barrel
All components of the Orsis T-5000 M are made with incredible precision. The trunks were produced using modern CNC equipment using the trellis planing method. The tolerance values for the pitch of the rifling are 0.004 mm per 1 m, and for the depth of the rifling less than 0.0025 mm. The bolt group is made of stainless maraging steel, the central hole is CNC EDM machined. Almost all elements are processed in a state of final hardening. For the production of all steel parts, only stainless steel is used. The quality of the final assembly guarantees high accuracy and good controllability during the shooting process.
Trigger mechanism of the Orsis T-5000 M rifle
The trigger mechanism of the rifle is made with the mainspring and firing pin placed directly in the bolt cavity. The firing pin is cocked while the bolt is opening. The trigger mechanism has an original design and the ability to adjust the trigger force in the standard model in the range from 0.75 to 0.85 kgf. It is equipped with a so-called “pre-release” and is reliably protected from the penetration of all kinds of dirt and dust. The relative smoothness of the trigger contributes to high shooting accuracy.
Rifle safety in firing position
A fuse with a flag moving in a horizontal plane is mounted in the rear part of the bolt. In the rearmost position of the flag, the firing pin and bolt are blocked - the weapon is on safety. In the middle position, the firing pin is locked, and the bolt is free and can be easily pulled back by pressing a special latch located on the left side of the receiver - this is the disassembly position. In the extreme forward position of the flag, the weapon is ready to fire; a bright orange border on the protruding tail of the firing pin is clearly visible - this is the combat state of the rifle. When the bolt is fully closed, its large handle is located directly above the trigger guard and the head of the safety flag is easily accessible to the thumb of the firing hand. The tail of the striker, protruding from behind the bolt, allows you to determine the condition of the striker mechanism, both visually and by touch, without any difficulty.
Detachable metal magazines for Orsis T-5000 M
To supply cartridges, a direct detachable metal magazine with a capacity of 5 and 10 rounds, depending on the caliber, is used. It is quite firmly attached to the neck of the receiver, which is part of the stock.
Orsis T-5000 M rifle stock
For the manufacture of stocks, aluminum alloy D16T is used. The butt folding and unfolding hinge unit is made of durable stainless steel, subject to special hardening. It is designed to prevent rapid wear during operation due to strong recoil. For the manufacture of plastic parts, only the highest strength polymer materials are used. Any connections are made only “steel to steel”, for which steel elements are mounted in the stock.
Orsis T-5000 M rifle buttstock with adjustable butt plate and cheek piece
The butt has a height-adjustable butt pad made of special wear-resistant rubber, as well as an adjustable cheek rest.
The length of the butt can only be adjusted with a special attachment installed directly under the butt plate.
The ergonomics of the Orsis T-5000 M rifle have improved significantly since its release in 2011.
Design of the Orsis T-5000 M model
Thanks to cooperation with professional shooters from various army and police special forces, athletes and hunters, a number of positive additions and changes were made to the design:
- An elongated plastic pad on the fore-end appeared, the pistol grip received an additional upper bend in its rear part - this increased comfort when shooting in various positions sitting, standing, lying down, in particularly hot and cold conditions, since direct contact of the human body with the steel surfaces of the rifle was excluded
- The modified shape of the butt makes it possible to improve the convenience of shooting from a rest not only for a right-handed shooter, but also for a left-handed one
- Adjustment of the butt cheek began to be performed by turning the screw in steps with a clearly audible click, which makes it easy to remember the optimal position once found by the number of clicks
- The magnetic stock lock in the folded position has been replaced with a reliable mechanical latch
- In addition to the Picatinny rail mounted on the receiver and used for mounting various types of optical sights, a bracket with a slightly shortened Picatinny rail for a night pre-objective attachment was additionally installed in the front part of the stock
- Bracket for mounting a pre-objective attachment with a Picatinny rail
- In the front there are special mounts for a folding, height-adjustable bipod (Harris Bipod type models are recommended) and a tactical weapon belt
- An effective slot-type muzzle brake-compensator is capable of absorbing recoil energy up to 50%
- Longitudinal valleys are made along the outer surface of the barrel, providing the required rigidity and simultaneous lightening
- All metal parts of the rifle are coated with a special protective ceramic coating for firearms, such as Cerakote®, in various colors.
- It is possible to equip the rifle with a tactical forend with interchangeable Picatinny rails

Design
The rifle has a sliding, longitudinal rotary bolt, which is closed by a pair of lugs. The trigger mechanism has trigger control.
It can be adjusted from soft to tight to suit the shooter's preference. The operating principle of the Orsis t-5000 mechanism is similar to bolt-action carbines.
The fuse can be in several positions:
- “All the way” position.
- Locked bolt and firing mechanism.
- Locked firing pin and blowback bolt.
The bolt can be unlocked with a button located on the left side of the bolt box. The barrel, which is integral with the receiver, has a muzzle brake, which softens recoil when fired.
The Orsis T 5000 single-row detachable magazine holds five and ten rounds. The entire rifle is of solid construction, using aluminum alloys, but this does not affect its weight. This model is superior in weight to foreign analogues.
The stock, which is made of especially strong steel, can be folded, this is a huge plus when transporting the model. It has a height-adjustable cheek pad. During the transformation, the rifle's forend received a plastic attachment. This new part makes it possible to shoot from different positions: sitting, kneeling or standing. The handle of the Orsis t-5000 is also made of plastic, so it makes it possible to use the rifle in any weather conditions.
On the bolt box of the rifle there is a Picatinny rail (an adapter rail designed for attaching additional accessories). It makes it possible to use different types of optics with optimal settings. There is also a holder for night attachments. The target firing range is 1.5 thousand meters. The optics are supplied in Russia and are in no way inferior to the best foreign analogues.
Shooter's note: As an additional tactical device, in addition to night attachments, laser pointers can be mounted on the side rails of the barrel casing.
On the forend there is a device for installing a biped. A bipod or bipod is a stubborn supply for firearms. The kit includes a bipod that is adjustable in size and folds.
