ORSIS T-5000 is a high-precision bolt-action repeating sniper rifle. "ORSIS" is produced by the arms factory of the same name of the Moscow industrial group "Promtekhnologii". The model was developed in 2011, and immediately began testing it in combat exercises. Large-scale production began in 2016 and continues to this day. The weapon is in service with the Special Operations Forces of the Russian Federation, the FSB, the FSO and the Russian Guard.
Design and its features
Orsis T-5000 is a representative of the carriers of a unique bolt group made of stainless steel. The shutter of the model is rotary, longitudinally sliding. The barrel and trigger mechanism are also made of high quality steel, as is the firing pin itself. The accuracy of the barrel is incredibly high - 0.002 millimeters. Fullers are installed on the body of the receiver to reduce cooling time and reduce the weight of the entire structure.
The muzzle has threads with which you can attach a muzzle brake, compensator and other improvements. The stock is made of aluminum alloy; high ergonomics are supported by the pistol grip shape. Some varieties involve adjusting the trigger force. The guide is of the Picatinny type for mounting an optical sight. You can purchase a bracket for installing a pre-objective attachment. Optical sights are considered “native”.
Design
T-5000 is made of metal. Plastic and wood - no. Even the stock is a solid aluminum piece. The rejection of such materials is dictated by the goals that the developers pursued when creating this rifle - high-precision shooting, reliability and reliability. According to the manufacturer's representatives, their weapons are capable of operating effectively in the temperature range from -50 to +50 degrees Celsius.
The ORSIS barrel is made of stainless steel, along its length there are valleys designed to give additional rigidity and act as a radiator for additional cooling. A muzzle compensator, gill type, is installed at the end of the barrel. Depending on the cartridge used, 4 or 6 longitudinal (well, not longitudinal, apparently screw) rectangular grooves are made in the barrel bore.
As mentioned above, the stock is made from a single piece of aluminum. The choice of material is dictated by strength and heat resistance. The energy from the shot would simply break the stock made of polymers or wood. The forend has a special mount for bipods from different manufacturers.
The pistol grip improves the already high ergonomics of the weapon.
ORSIS does not have open sights. The rifle is designed for long-range shooting and it is more convenient to use optical devices for the sight. For example, the domestic “Daedalus” will do. A Piccatini rail is used to mount the sight. Pre-sighting equipment for night shooting is also installed on the receiver: a noctovisor or a thermal imager. There is a mount for a rangefinder on the side.
The receiver itself is made of heavy-duty metal and is attached to the stock using epoxy resin. The cartridges are fed from a magazine with 5 or 10 rounds. There are also 20 charges, but they are non-standard and must be ordered separately.
The length and height of the butt can be adjusted at the request of the shooter. An adjustable monopod increases stability when shooting. The butt, for ease of transportation, can be folded to the left and secured with a magnetic lock. This reduces the overall length of the product.
To improve accuracy, it was decided to abandon the self-loading system. Instead, a bolt group made of special stainless steel is used. The shutter itself is longitudinally sliding, rotary. After each shot, you have to manually withdraw it to extract the cartridge case. By returning the bolt to its original position, the cartridge is recharged and the mainspring is cocked.
For safety, ORSIS has a fuse. It works in three modes:
- blocking mode. Completely blocks the possibility of a shot;
- free shooting mode;
- partial blocking mode. Used when disassembling a rifle.
The fuse itself is a flag type and is mounted in the rear of the bolt.
The trigger mechanism deserves special mention. It is designed specifically for this rifle and can be adjusted for smoothness of action. This allows you to achieve a more accurate shot, because the shooter is not distracted by unnecessary effort.
More recently, a modification of ORSIS called T-5000m was presented. The main difference from the original model was the presence of a new casing around the receiver. It can be called a whole complex for customizing weapons for yourself.
This casing contains various fastenings for body kits, and most importantly, these fastenings can be easily moved along the entire length of the receiver.
Changes also affected the muzzle brake. Instead of 4 taps, there were 6 of them, which further enhanced the effect. The store shaft has changed slightly. The stock now rotates to the right.

The ORSIS T-5000 and T5000M rifles are Russian-made high-precision multi-shot sniper rifles. The abbreviation ORSIS stands for OR snakes SIS themes. The rifles are made according to the classic “bolt” design - manual reloading with a longitudinally sliding bolt. The production of rifles was established in 2011 by the industrial group Promtekhnologii LLC (founded in 2009), located in Moscow. It was first presented to the public in September 2011 at an arms exhibition in Nizhny Tagil. In the Russian Federation, the rifle is supplied to equip special units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Army. The rifle is supplied for sale to civilians, as well as for export.
Design and production
The ORSIS T-5000M rifle is manufactured on high-precision, expensive European-made machines. The rifle is not designed for conveyor production, since the manufacturer pays great attention to the quality of production. The rifle has a classic “bolt” loading system: a sliding bolt with a rotary lock. The bolt has two combat locks. The barrel is made of stainless steel using a single-pass cutting method (trellis planing) with an accuracy of 0.002 mm. The barrel has valleys (ribs along the barrel), which serve to cool and reduce the weight of the weapon. The barrel hangs freely: does not touch the stock or bipod. Barrel length 699 mm, muzzle diameter 22 mm. At the end of the barrel there is a muzzle brake-compensator to reduce recoil during shooting. The trigger mechanism, like the barrel, is made of stainless steel, has adjustable trigger travel length and adjustable pressing force (Varmint option from 900 to 1500 grams, Hunter option from 1000 grams to 1500 grams). The safety of the rifle is ensured by a three-position (safety, fire, fire) safety on the bolt on the right side, which blocks the movement of the bolt mechanism and firing pin.
The T-5000 rifle has a pistol grip, a stock and a “skeleton” butt made of D16T aviation aluminum alloy, which ensures high ergonomics. Aluminum alloy painted with liquid ceramics Cerakote The butt of the rifle has a folding mechanism on the left side, the butt has a mechanism for adjusting the cheek rest and shoulder rest, a monopad can be installed, the length of the butt is adjustable. For ease of shooting, it is possible to install a bipod. For aiming, only optical sights are used; an open mechanical sight is not provided. The sight is mounted using a Picattini rail; it can be installed up to sighting devices (thermal imagers, night vision devices). The rifles are fed from 5 or 10 charging magazines.
The rifle is produced in calibers: 308 Win (7.62x51 mm), 300 Win.Mag (7.62x67 mm), 338 Lapua Mag (8.6x70 mm), 260 Rem (6.5x55 mm), Lapua ( 6.5x47 mm). The accuracy of the rifle reaches 0.3-0.5 MOA. For reference, 1 MOA = 2.9089 cm at 100 meters, at a distance of 300 meters, a bullet from the T-5000 hits a circle with a diameter of 4.5 cm, for comparison with the SVD rifle 1.24 MOA. the stated sighting range of 1500 meters corresponds to reality. In practice, it is possible to shoot at a tall figure at a distance of 2000 meters. In 2015, the T-5000 T-5000M model . The new model is distinguished by a muzzle brake compensator, a new trigger, a new “skeleton” stock with additional Picatinny rails, the butt folds to the right side (locks/closes the bolt). Rifle magazines are not interchangeable.
Conclusion
The rifle really deserves the attention of military personnel and precision shooting enthusiasts not only in the Russian Federation, but also beyond its borders. This is evidenced by the fact that at police competitions it can be found among the Chinese and British. For this purpose, the rifle is produced for shooting in popular foreign calibers. It is strange that there is no rifle for the domestic caliber 7.62x54 mm, for which they allegedly do not produce a cartridge that meets the characteristics for accurate shooting at long distances. In the Russian Federation, the ORSIS T-5000 is of interest to military and law enforcement agencies and is included in the military complex “ Ratnik", the rifle is purchased by special units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, but at the same time they put a spoke in the wheels by refusing to purchase. The closest domestic rifle, the SV-98, is not a “good” competitor to the ORSIS T-5000 in terms of performance characteristics. The refusal to purchase is motivated by the lack of domestic cartridges for these rifles and the lack of the ORSIS T-5000 rifle for the 7.62x54 mm caliber, while the Russian Army is submitting contracts for government purchases of Austrian Steyr SSG 08 rifles, which are more expensive, plus it is not “patriotic” to have its own Military industrial complex.

Firing accuracy
As with any rifle, shooting accuracy is influenced by a whole range of factors.
The most important parameters:
- Tolerances in the manufacture of the barrel must be minimal - an error of even a micron can significantly reduce shooting accuracy. The ORSIS manufacturer specifically uses the “single-pass cutting” method for processing the barrel.
- The bolt must be designed to avoid a click before firing.
- Adjustment of the descent should be as smooth and comfortable as possible.
- The wear resistance of metal elements is increased by coating with a special ceramic composition.
- The cartridges must be heavy - consist of hard metal and have a large mass.
Thanks to the latest manufacturing technologies, the Orsis T-5000 rifle has super-performance. Further upgrades and release of newer modifications are planned. Currently, tuning Orsis is often practiced by installing night vision sights and laser designators, specifically for which the presence of high-precision perforations in the barrel casing is implied.
Brand manufacturers
"Orsis" is a Russian trademark under which carbines for sports and hunting, as well as rifles, are manufactured. The abbreviation comes from the phrase “weapon systems.” The plant that produces these weapons belongs to Promtekhnologiya LLC and is located in Moscow.
This structure is a private company of the Russian Federation, created in 2009 on the initiative of recognized and honored Russian shooters-athletes and experts in the field of small arms. The plant occupies an area of more than 3000 square meters. It is a full cycle production. Over the course of a year, it produces about 1,200 items, 60% of which are hunting weapons. The rest are sporting rifles.
Varieties of the model
Of course, there are several types of rifles, depending on operating conditions and the desired characteristics of the weapon. Most often, the classification is based on the cartridge used, but this is not one of the characteristics by which Orsis modifications are “divided”.
Possible variations of the basic model:
- Caliber classification – .260 Rem, . 308 Win, 6.5x47 Lapua, Magnum .300 Win, .388 Lapua Mag.
- Color variations of the design (barrel and stock) - dark gray (Black Graphite), light grayish (Sniper Grey), greenish khaki (Olb Green), beige (Desert Sand).
Different body colors are indispensable for camouflaging the shooter's position, so you should not neglect the opportunity to choose exactly the right shade for a specific landscape or ambush location.
Equipment and cost
The purchased item is transported in a hard plastic case, no matter if it is a rifle, pistol, shotgun or any other carbine from the manufacturer.
The standard delivery includes the following:
- the rifle itself;
- weapon passport;
- warranty card;
- shooting protocol;
- bipod;
- optical sight;
- compensator brake;
- shop;
- a set of keys for adjusting the trigger.
Prices for the rifle are relatively low for a product of such accuracy and reliability. The cost ranges from 250 to 300 thousand rubles.
Among domestic products, Orsis “five thousand” has no analogues, however, the closest versions can be found from foreign manufacturers:
- The design and calibers used are very similar to the Austrian sniper SSG-8 (Steyr Mannlicher). It features a bolt action and folding stock made from an aluminum alloy. Weight reaches 5.7 kilograms.
- Less similar to the Orsis is the large-caliber (12.7 mm) North American sniper M-93 from Harris Gunwork with manual reloading. This model has an orthopedic wooden butt like the SVD. The total length is 1371 mm, and the weight is more than 10 kilograms. This weapon can be used to conduct targeted fire at a distance of about three kilometers!
The Orsis company itself also has very worthy models in addition to the “five thousandth”, for example, Alpin, AR-10, Hunter-M.
