Replenishment of the arsenal! Orsis AR15J carbine in .366 TKM caliber

ORSIS AS-15 carbine

As with any rifle, shooting accuracy is influenced by a whole range of factors.
The most important parameters:

Tolerances in the manufacture of the barrel must be minimal - an error of even a micron can significantly reduce shooting accuracy. The ORSIS manufacturer specifically uses the “single-pass cutting” method for processing the barrel.

The bolt must be designed to avoid a click before firing.

Adjustment of the descent should be as smooth and comfortable as possible.

The wear resistance of metal elements is increased by coating with a special ceramic composition.

The cartridges must be heavy - consist of hard metal and have a large mass.

Thanks to the latest manufacturing technologies, the Orsis T-5000 rifle has super-performance. Further upgrades and release of newer modifications are planned. Currently, tuning Orsis is often practiced by installing night vision sights and laser designators, specifically for which the presence of high-precision perforations in the barrel casing is implied.

ORSIS M-15 carbine - characteristics, photos, performance characteristics

How I came to this: Probably each of us, when joining the ranks of gun owners, begins to count the days until the onset of 5 years of service.
So it was with me. Even before the cherished date arrived, I began to study the issue. In the beginning, I dreamed of an AK carbine. I read the relevant sections of the forum. I planned to buy Saiga MK-03 7.62x39 from Samolet. But when it came down to it, there was no opportunity, and when the opportunity arose, the “Airplane” theme with rifled carbines was abandoned. And that’s when I noticed Stoner’s system. An equally legendary weapon with its own characteristics. Reference: AR-15 is an American self-loading rifle chambered for 5.56×45 mm. Produced since 1963. It was developed as a promising assault rifle for the US Army. In 1959, due to financial difficulties, ArmaLite sold the rights to the design. In the early 1960s, an automatic variant of the AR-15 was adopted by the US Army under the designation M16.

YouTube is replete with videos about both AK and AR-15, and about their comparison. But all this variety is foreign; our choice is very modest. You can find American Colt and Bushmaster on sale, you can get H&K (but is it necessary for that kind of money). There is a good option from brotherly Zbroyar, and even from native Hammer. There are also a couple of other manufacturers that can be found in Russia, but these are already exotic. My carbine was manufactured in Russia at a weapons factory under the ORSIS brand. All components, except the barrel, are imported from the USA, manufactured by ArmaLite. The ORSIS barrel is made of weapon steel with oxycarbonitration. Profiling of the barrel bore is carried out using single-pass burnishing technology. The choice fell on this option for several reasons: availability, price, components from the progenitor of the system, and a potentially good barrel from a manufacturer of high-precision rifles.

Specifications: Caliber .223 Rem (5.56×45 mm NATO) 16″ Barrel, made by ORSIS, 4140 steel with oxycarbonitration or 416R stainless steel 1:8″ Twist Gas chamber with A2 front sight FlatTop receiver with Picatinny rail USM Tactical two-stage Overall length , 830/900 mm Weight, 2.96 kg

Well, now about my carbine:

Copy number 13

Year of manufacture 2014 — Removable carrying handle — Picatinny rail on the receiver — Automatic system with direct action of powder gases — Lightweight plastic forend — Gas chamber with A2 front sight — Removable flash hider — Telescopic butt — Ergonomic handle — Tactical trigger — Detachable magazine for 10 cartridges as well as a synthetic pouch and cover.

I consider the “basic” package to be quite convenient for purchase. The carbine looks very authentic out of the box. The sight-handle, high front sight, plastic forend - all this gives the carbine the appearance of the legendary “black rifle”. At the same time, the flat top allows you to easily replace the sighting device. And MIL-Spec components expand the horizons of construction.

I already have a few goodies ready. Soon I will start installing and describing the result.

Tested for myself

Having finished the educational program, Dmitry loads both barrels and asks: “Would you like to try it?” Of course we want! A RIA Novosti correspondent, who has never shot with a sniper rifle before, accepts a carbine from the hands of an instructor. “Brother” makes a frankly pleasant impression - it is ergonomic, grippy, and beautiful, like all truly high-quality weapons. But the weight is impressive - more than five kilograms including the optical sight. It's a bit heavy. For sniper weapons, however, this is not considered a disadvantage, since shooting is most often carried out from a point-blank range. In our case, from a short bipod under the fore-end. And the heavy weight partially compensates for the recoil.

Equipment and cost

The purchased item is transported in a hard plastic case, no matter if it is a rifle, pistol, shotgun or any other carbine from the manufacturer. The standard delivery includes the following:

The standard delivery includes the following:

  • the rifle itself;
  • weapon passport;
  • warranty card;
  • shooting protocol;
  • bipod;
  • optical sight;
  • compensator brake;
  • shop;
  • a set of keys for adjusting the trigger.

Prices for the rifle are relatively low for a product of such accuracy and reliability. The cost ranges from 250 to 300 thousand rubles.

Among domestic products, Orsis “five thousand” has no analogues, however, the closest versions can be found from foreign manufacturers:

  1. The design and calibers used are very similar to the Austrian sniper SSG-8 (Steyr Mannlicher). It features a bolt action and folding stock made from an aluminum alloy. Weight reaches 5.7 kilograms.
  2. Less similar to the Orsis is the large-caliber (12.7 mm) North American sniper M-93 from Harris Gunwork with manual reloading. This model has an orthopedic wooden butt like the SVD. The total length is 1371 mm, and the weight is more than 10 kilograms. This weapon can be used to conduct targeted fire at a distance of about three kilometers!

The Orsis company itself also has very worthy models in addition to the “five thousandth”, for example, Alpin, AR-10, Hunter-M.

Design and its features

Orsis T-5000 is a representative of the carriers of a unique bolt group made of stainless steel. The shutter of the model is rotary, longitudinally sliding. The barrel and trigger mechanism are also made of high quality steel, as is the firing pin itself. The accuracy of the barrel is incredibly high - 0.002 millimeters. Fullers are installed on the body of the receiver to reduce cooling time and reduce the weight of the entire structure.

The muzzle has threads with which you can attach a muzzle brake, compensator and other improvements. The stock is made of aluminum alloy; high ergonomics are supported by the pistol grip shape. Some varieties involve adjusting the trigger force. The guide is of the Picatinny type for mounting an optical sight. You can purchase a bracket for installing a pre-objective attachment. Optical sights are considered “native”.
