MP-80-13T. PM in 45 rubber caliber through the eyes of the owner. Part 1.

Review of MP-80-13T (Makarov injuries), quality and refinement

The collapse of the Soviet Union brought not only shocks to the economic and social sphere of the country, but also the opening of new markets.
This situation did not spare arms factories, which quickly had to adjust to a new concept of existence. Traumatic pistol MP 80-13t

Industrialists began to produce commercial products for the civilian population to survive. These were not only hunting rifles, but also weapons born of a negative crime situation - PM traumat.

In the linear model, the ability to fire with live ammunition is removed, instead of which special rubber ones are used. For these purposes, special narrowings are placed in the barrel bore or pins are placed to prevent the passage of the iron bullet.

Mostly traumatic pistols are represented by modifications of combat pistols.

All major arms concerns in the country - IzhMekh, TKB, Vyatskie-Polyany - began to produce trauma weapons. For the most part, they took a combat pistol, often a PM, and after modification they sold it as a self-defense weapon.

After some time, the development of specialized guns of this class began. They had a larger caliber, which gave advantages in neutralizing a target. An example would be "Wasp".

MP 80-13, handle

Why was it necessary to increase the caliber of the cartridge used? The point was the area affected. The larger it is, the less likely it is to cause a penetrating wound. Such damage to the human body is already classified as excess in self-defense and is punishable according to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

2004

production of MP-80-13T started this year

In 2004, production of the MP-80-13T began. It was a replica of a Makarov pistol, with completely repeated mechanics, but for the use of .45 Rubber ammunition. The model did not immediately become popular.

Many complaints from buyers regarding the low penetration ability of the 13 mm rubber bullet gave rise to the myth of low efficiency.

But, after a while, everything fell into place and the Makarov 45-caliber traumatic pistol, the characteristics of which were declared by the manufacturer to be very powerful, proved in practice that piercing chipboard is not the main parameter for the OOOP MP 80 13t.

General information about traumatic PM

Traumatic PM is necessary for self-defense within the limits of self-defense legislation. The principle of operation is to defeat the enemy with rubber ammunition in the form of balls. The design in the form of a Makarov pistol from the 50s complies with self-defense legislation when design changes are made.

Traumatic pistols in production were obtained from proven versions and decommissioned combat copies.

Blued steel was used in the production of pistols.

And components that have undergone strict quality control, so on the market such items are considered reliable and easy to maintain.

Production is established at the site where military weapons are manufactured, so the differences from service weapons are minimal, which in some cases is taken advantage of by attackers by converting traumatic pistols into something similar to combat pistols.

However, in 2011, changes were made to the legislation that prohibited manufacturers from using traumatic weapons using rubber bullets as ammunition, as this led to injuries incompatible with life and exceeding an impact force of 90 J.

The production batch of such pistols amounted to 5 thousand units; due to the ease of care of the weapon, ballistic qualities and reliable design, such products were popular among consumer consumers and collectors.

At the same time, original spare parts from military weapons are used in production while maintaining the inventory numbers, which gives such traumatic pistols a collectible uniqueness.

Appearance of the traumatic pistol MP-80-13T

The MP-80-13t traumatic pistol externally resembles its legendary ancestor “Makarych”. The similarity is especially achieved if all the markings indicating that this is an injury are hidden. The internal mechanics are no different from previous generations of Makarych. But the characteristics of the MP 80 13t (performance characteristics) differ from its combat older brother.

The changes affected only an enlarged bolt chambered for the MP 80 13t cartridge for 45 Rubber and a reduction in the thickness of the chamber walls for the same reason. Due to the increase in caliber, the number of cartridges in the magazine also changed. If the UR-79-9tm could fit 8 rounds, then the MP-80-13T only had 6 rounds.

It is also worth mentioning the ergonomics of the LLC MR 80 13t. The pistol fits comfortably in the hand. It is easy to carry under clothes. The handle has been slightly redesigned - the heel has been changed. Weapons can be easily restyled and tuning. A wide market for various replacement handles, cheeks, etc. has grown around the models of the MP 13t series.

A number of enthusiasts do chrome plating of the bore. However, in general, owners try to bring the MP-80-13t 45 caliber to full external similarity with the combat prototype.

How to buy a combat pistol legally

Alas, today the state does not allow it to be legal to buy and keep a combat pistol at home.

A rifle, carbine, or even a Kalashnikov assault rifle converted into an automatic carbine is possible, but a short-barreled rifled weapon in the form of a revolver or pistol is not allowed.

Of course, there are exceptions, in the form of award-winning or antique weapons, but this is too long a path. Alternatively, many become members of sports sections and clubs, but even in this case, the purchased weapons will not be stored at home, but in the weapons room under lock and key in the sports club.

And in this case, the transportation of weapons has big problems in terms of coordinating the route, checking the conditions of transportation and storage. Alas, the state is not yet interested in ensuring that citizens can ensure their own security and exercise their constitutional right to personal security.

How the gun works

Semi-automatic shooting is possible due to the free movement of the bolt frame. USM - double action, trigger - with warning. The approximate trigger force is 2.1-4.6 kg for single shooting or using self-cocking. But the trigger guard of the combat PM was always characterized by a smooth movement, and the traumatic analogue is not inferior in this regard.

In addition to the pin to prevent firing of real ammunition, there are grooves in the barrel that weaken it. They have no practical use: they are only required to comply with the law. Sights - an adjustable rear sight and a fixed front sight located on the bolt frame - in this case everything is the same as on a combat Makarov.

The magazine holds 8 rounds, and the magazine is secured with a spring-loaded latch. This mechanism is reliable, but the reload speed is lost, although in principle this is a justified move.

Performance characteristics

Since this is a civilian weapon, the traumatic weapon is inferior to the combat weapon:

Barrel length9.35 cm
Caliber9x22
Dimensions16.15x12.65x3.05 cm
Weight without loaded magazine0.73 kg
Bullet rangeup to 10 meters
Magazine capacity8 pieces

The “destructive force” criterion will depend on many factors, for example, on the area of impact, the physical health of the attacker and the clothes he is wearing, which is why this parameter is initially underestimated.

Used cartridges for traumatic Makarov

The original 9x18 ammunition was replaced with 9x22T. Structurally, they consist of a rubber bullet in the form of a ball in a metal sleeve. Muzzle energy is in the range of 30-110 J, taking into account the specific cartridge model.

Manufacturers write on ammunition packages what the muzzle energy of a rubber ball is, but this often becomes a trap for novice shooters who try to buy reinforced cartridges, albeit at a more expensive price. The bullet itself has weak ballistic characteristics: the ball’s killing power quickly decreases after just a few meters. Also, some of the manufacturing companies do not have enough gunpowder, this is either a feature of a certain brand, or a defect in a specific batch of cartridges.

How to choose a barrel

Traumatic pistol MP-80-13

The main part of any weapon is the barrel. Traumatic pistols are no exception in this matter. Therefore, it is worthwhile to dwell separately on the description of this PM 80 13t part, as well as how to care for it and choose the right one when purchasing.

The domestic arms market can be compared to a flea market, where you can find both useful and necessary things and complete trash.

IzhMech pistols (PM 80 45 caliber, traumatic) are no exception. When purchasing, you should pay attention to the quality of the barrel. Most of the products have no defects, but sometimes there are samples that are “masterpieces” in their curvature. Carefully inspect the proposed 45 caliber PM pistol, shine it with a flashlight and, if you see that the barrel is uneven, ask for another one.

If you find small deviations from the norm, you should not reject the gun immediately.

A number of defects can be easily corrected using Goya paste. Don't use sandpaper - you'll just ruin the bore.

In addition to the evenness of the barrel, it is worth paying attention to the obstacles that block the possibility of using a live cartridge. If they are located unevenly, then it is worth changing weapons. Minor flaws are insignificant and can be easily corrected with tools.

If the traumatic pistol MP MP 80 13t has pointed grags, then it is better to level them, otherwise the bullet will be cut or severely deformed. This situation can lead to the loss of accuracy of the guided fire or to its ineffectiveness in terms of lethality.

Device MP 80-13

It is likely that there may be a problem with the chamber. When removing the sleeve and finding scratches on the surface, carefully inspect this element. If you find any unevenness or jagged edges on it, carefully lubricate it with Goya paste and sand it with sandpaper. Do not overdo it, otherwise the diameter of the chamber may increase, causing failure.

Why is PM-T so popular?

For Russia, the Makarov is a common combat pistol with a well-known design and a lot of positive qualities. Its cost in comparison with foreign analogues is competitive even after an increase of 100-300% when the ban was introduced. Ease of maintenance and operation is important for regions of the country where access to spare parts is limited.

The production of pistol analogues is established not only in Russia

The pistol's accuracy and lethality are indistinguishable from the best Western models. The collector's value of the pistol is represented by the use in the production of parts of combat pistols with the preservation of serial inventory numbers. The popularity of the traumatic pistol led to the creation of copies outside the country.

MP-79-9T "Makarych" is a gas pistol with the ability to fire a rubber bullet. Before the change in the designation system, weapons manufactured by Izhevsk Mechanical Plant OJSC were produced as IZH-79-9T. It belongs to a firearm of limited destruction and is developed on the basis of the IZH-79 gas pistol, the prototype for which was the Makarov PM combat pistol. This circumstance largely determined the popularity of both IZH-79 and MP-79-9T: externally, these pistols are almost impossible to distinguish from military weapons, which leads to a decrease in the level of aggression of the attacker.

Unlike the IZH-79, the MP-79-9T has a barrel with protrusions, “teeth,” welded into its channel, through which the rubber bullet passes due to its elastic deformation. The passage of a metal bullet through such a barrel is impossible.

For firing from the MP-79-9T pistol, 9 mm RA cartridges are used. (9×22) with an energy of 35 J. The bullet of this cartridge has the shape of a sphere with a diameter of 10.2 mm. The mass of the bullet is 0.7 g.

After the 9 mm R.A. cartridge variant was put into legal circulation. with energy increased to 50 J, the designers of Izhevsk Mechanical Plant OJSC developed a modification of the MP-79-9TM for this cartridge, which has a more durable barrel and a modified trigger mechanism. Thanks to the improved barrel design, the MP-79-9TM provides a muzzle energy of 70 J when firing cartridges with 50 J energy.

The effective range of use of pistols is up to 7 m. They can also fire gas cartridges. The maximum range of destruction by an aerosol cloud when firing gas cartridges is 3 m. Firing with noise cartridges is also possible.

Shooting of traumatic cartridges can be carried out both by self-cocking and with preliminary cocking of the hammer manually. When using gas and noise cartridges for firing from the MP-79-9TM, only manual reloading is possible, since its firing mechanism is designed for cartridges that provide high recoil energy.

The frame, bolt-casing and parts of the firing mechanism, which bear the main load when firing, are made of steel, due to which the MP-79-9T and MP-79-9TM are significantly superior to their foreign counterparts in strength and durability.

As for the barrel, users have serious complaints about it. Thus, in barrels with welded protrusions-“teeth”, over time, under the influence of bullets, the shape of one of the “teeth” changes, resulting in the formation of a “burr” that completely covers the barrel bore.

Unfortunately, the barrels with depressed lugs used on modern versions of pistols are also far from ideal. The fact is that at the point of indentation, the walls of the barrel are thinner, which contributes to the appearance of deformation and ruptures. In this regard, it is of interest to know that the Kolchuga chain of gun stores has put on sale a special easily removable bushing that prevents the barrel from swelling when firing cartridges with an energy of 50 J. This bushing also makes it possible to reduce the backlash of the bolt-casing when firing and thus increase shooting accuracy.

When firing, the cartridges are fed from a box magazine with a capacity of 8 cartridges, inserted into the handle of the pistol. The magazine release is located at the bottom of the handle.

Like the combat prototype, protection against accidental shots is provided by a mechanical fuse, the flag of which is located on the left side of the bolt casing. In the on position, the safety locks the hammer, trigger and bolt housing.

Shooting is carried out using open-type mechanical sighting devices. The front sight and rear sight are mounted on the bolt casing.

Advantages and disadvantages of the pistol

Let us first pay attention to what made people line up waiting for the coveted PM-T:

  • High value for collectors and Soviet quality of parts made by precision milling;
  • In addition to the aesthetic function, the design of the original PM often resolved conflicts “with just its appearance”, because it differs from the combat version by the factory engraving on the bolt casing and a slightly narrowed barrel;
  • In addition to the affordable price at the start of sales, maintenance was much cheaper than traumatic pistols with similar characteristics;
  • The design, familiar to many, greatly simplified the use and maintenance of the pistol;
  • The overall reliability of the Makarov - with a correctly selected spring (more on this below) it is practically trouble-free.

And now about the details that are not usually advertised, which became a disappointment for the owners:

  • The very first batch had a serial defect in the barrel, which often led to cartridges sticking when feeding. However, the manufacturer reacted surprisingly quickly, and by the next batch this problem was solved;
  • The original Makarov spring was poorly suited for firing traumatic cartridges and often behaved “inappropriately”. It is almost impossible to fix it, so most often it was simply replaced with a similar one from the pneumatic MP-654K;
  • Low shooting accuracy and general inconvenience of the sight.

But this type, unfortunately, is familiar to many. Despite
all this, I personally have not been able to find anyone on the Internet willing to part with a traumatic PM purchased at one time for an amount less than fifty thousand rubles.

Tips for caring for your pistol

Traumatic pistols based on PM are highly resistant to contamination and do not require careful maintenance. However, like all weapons, do not leave the injury in damp places - it can lead to rust.

“Makarych” is not afraid of rain, but after falling into the water it is recommended to carefully wipe it dry with a cloth. After drying, re-lubricate the mechanism.

MP 80-13, disassembled

After purchasing a new gun, disassemble it and remove the factory grease using a rag. Then dry all the mechanics and apply a new, always thin, layer. After firing from the MP-80-13T, clear the barrel bore of any remaining powder gas. Otherwise, it may cause it to malfunction.

In new weapons, the feed spring in the magazine is tight, which can negatively affect its operation. However, the problem will resolve itself after several discharges. There is no need to change the spring to a shorter one - it may lead to a decrease in ammunition capacity due to the short length.

History of PM-T

The number of changes compared to the original design was limited to only replacing the barrel. The appearance of the first copies as weapons for self-defense dates back to the end of the 90s, and the weapon became widespread in the mid-2000s and was developed by the enterprises PKP AKBS LLC and ZID OJSC, which were the successors to the manufacturer of the military Makarov.

5 000

number of barrels fired

The number of barrels produced, 5,000 thousand copies, classifies the PM-T pistol as a small-scale weapon.

Legislative changes to the weapons law put an end to the production and sale of weapons with rubber cartridges. This circumstance stopped the further spread of the pistol on the market.

Replacing raw materials from used original pistols meant increasing costs and decreasing demand, and many collectors purchased these pistols for their authenticity and original parts.

PM-T. photo with the spring and receiver removed

The cost of pistols before the ban was 10 thousand rubles, after which the cost increased exponentially up to 100 thousand rubles for copies in new condition with original factory parts of the case and mechanism.

By 2022, some of the pistols were out of order due to wear and tear of components and parts, however, the availability of a database of spare parts makes repair and operation simple. At the same time, the cost of such traumatic pistols increases from year to year and some copies cost 100 thousand rubles, and the average price on the market is 30-40 thousand rubles, depending on the condition of the pistol and its wear and tear.

Due to the use of standard parts, repairing and replacing failed parts is not difficult, and the cost of the parts themselves is one and a half to two times less than their foreign counterparts.

Comparison of standard and traumatic barrels of PM pistols

What cartridges are used?

The MP-80-13T uses increased caliber cartridges for firing - .45 Rubber. The cartridge has a bullet with a diameter of 13 mm, placed, thanks to the properties of rubber, in a sleeve of this size. In Russia, cartridges for the MP 80 13 t are produced by two companies: Tekhkrim and AKBS.

The bullet itself weighs 1.5 grams and flies out of the barrel under the influence of a force of 70 J. Due to its large weight and size, the bullet has a better damaging effect on the target, without causing through-and-through damage.

MP 80-13, cartridges

Separately, I would like to note that the chamber is very sensitive to low-quality ammunition. If possible, it is better to purchase cartridges from a proven batch to avoid malfunctions at the wrong time.

Legislative norms

Any citizen over 21 years of age can purchase a pistol for self-defense. Citizens from 18 to 21 years of age who are members of the armed forces or internal affairs bodies may use weapons to perform their official duties. Professional hunters of small ethnic groups of the North can obtain a permit to carry weapons until they reach 21 years of age.

Permission to purchase assault rifles and cartridges is issued by federal or local authorities, referring to Federal Law No. 151-FZ of July 1, 2022. The application for permission to purchase an LLC must indicate the applicant's full name, information about the place of permanent residence and registration with the department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Package of documents:

  • certificate of medical examination;
  • certificate of no criminal record or expunged criminal record;
  • photographs 3x4 cm;
  • certificate of completion of training in special courses.

A complete list of required documents can be obtained from the linear permitting department.

The purchase license is valid for 6 months, during which time you need to buy a weapon, a safe, a holster, and obtain a certificate from the local police officer about compliance with the conditions for storing weapons. After 5 years, the permit must be renewed or the pistol must be surrendered. Violators of the law are punished with a fine and their weapons are confiscated.

Registered collectors can own an unlimited number of weapons and ammunition; other citizens are allowed to own 2 weapons, 10 cartridges for each barrel.

Descriptions of the modification "Raber Norma"

Nowadays, these traumatic cartridges (caliber 45) Rubber are in great demand. Their power is quite high. The products use rubber balls as bullets, and they are installed immediately above the core. In this case, the flange at the edge is sharpened. The crimping of these traumatic cartridges is made of medium density. The pallet for this product is made from steel as standard at the factory.

View gallery

The initial speed parameter is 320 meters per second. If you believe consumer reviews, the successfully introduced cartridges can be used at a distance of no more than 15 meters. Otherwise, the accuracy of fire drops significantly. It should also be taken into account that at a distance of over 30 meters the damaging effect of these traumatic cartridges is significantly reduced. They are sold in stores only in packs of 20 pieces, and cost about 2 thousand rubles.

Cartridges for PM-T

The range of cartridges for PM traumatic weapons includes:

  • 9mm P.A cartridge produced by the pistol manufacturer and supplied complete with the pistol to the magazine with cartridges. The ammunition has a charge energy of 90 J and is shaped like a rubber ball;
  • cartridge 10x28T - ammunition from the Czech product "Thunderstorm" has less energy of 60 J, a brass sleeve and is considered reliable when used with a Makarov pistol (trauma).

It is possible to use other ammunition; for this it is necessary to make changes to the design of the barrel and other parts and mechanisms of the pistol.
