(
CIWS
/si wɪ z / SM-wiz) [1] is a point defense weapon system for detecting and destroying short-range incoming enemy missiles and aircraft that have penetrated external defenses, typically mounted on a ship in a naval tanks Almost all classes of larger modern warships are equipped with some kind of CIWS device.

There are two types of CIWS systems. A gun-based CIWS typically consists of a combination of radars, computers, and high-velocity multi-barrel rotating cannons placed on a rotating turret. Missile-launched CIWS use either infrared, passive radar/ESM, or semi-active radar targeting terminal to guide missiles to target enemy aircraft or other threats. In some cases, CIWS are used on land to protect military bases. In this case, CIWS can also protect the base from artillery and missile fire.

cannon-based CIWS typically consists of a combination of radars, computers and a rotating or turret gun mounted on a rotating automatic gun mount. Examples of weapon-based CIWS products in use:

  • Aselsan GOKDENIZ [1]
  • AK-630
  • DARDO
  • Denel 35mm dual purpose pistol
  • Goalkeeper CIWS
  • Kashtansky IDGC

  • Phalanx CIWS
  • Sea zenith
  • Type 730 CIWS
  • Pantsir-ME

Limitations of weapon systems[edit]

  • Short Range: The maximum effective firing range of the gun systems is around 5,000 meters (16,000 ft); systems with lighter projectiles have even shorter ranges. The expected real-world engagement range of an incoming anti-ship missile is about 500 m (1,600 ft) or less, [4] still close enough to cause damage to ship sensors or communications systems, as well as injure or kill exposed personnel. . Thus, some CIWS systems, such as the Russian Kashtan and Pantsir systems, are complemented by mounting short-range SAMs on the same installation to increase tactical flexibility.
  • Limited probability of destruction: Even if a missile is hit and damaged, this may not be enough to completely destroy it or change its course. Even in the case of a direct hit, the missile or its fragments can hit the intended target, especially if the final interception range is short. This is especially true if the cannon fires projectiles with only kinetic energy. [5]

Purpose and technical characteristics

The main goal of creating the T-5000 ORSIS sniper rifle is to conduct effective, and most importantly accurate, fire over long distances. Accuracy allows you to hit a target with a diameter smaller than the caliber of a rifle at a distance of 100 meters. First of all, it is intended for operational groups of law enforcement agencies and for army snipers, but the private market is also in the sphere of interests of the creators.

The rifle itself is based on a sports model, which is not surprising for this class of product, and is designed for popular Western ammunition. This is dictated not only by the law of the market, but also by the lack of adequate domestic analogues for them.

The ORSIS rifle is also used in other areas. In particular, it is popular among professional athletes who often compete. For them, the main thing in a weapon is its accuracy, and the T-5000 has a high level of this characteristic. This weapon was also chosen by hunters. A powerful 7.62 mm caliber cartridge allows you to hit any animal, and excellent accuracy allows you to fire at the target spots of the animal.

The tactical and technical characteristics of this weapon are as follows:

Ground[edit]

CIWS are also used on land in the form of C-RAM. [11] On a smaller scale, active protection systems

used in some tanks (to destroy rocket-propelled grenade launchers (RPGs), some are in development. The Drozd system was deployed on Soviet Marine tanks in the early 1980s, but was later replaced by explosive reactive armor. Other systems that are available or currently under development are Russian (Arena), Israeli (Trophy), American (Quick Kill) and South African-Swedish (LEDS-150).

Weapon comparison

Experts note that the prices for weapons from Promtekhnologii LLC are real, not inflated, but the quality of the products is definitely very high. In conditions where rifles are required to demonstrate accuracy, the Orsis product demonstrates its advantages. The manufacturer claims that the parameters related to accuracy overlap significantly. Orsis products “outshoot” many rifles at the competitions where they take part together. The use of rifles from Promtekhnologiya by experienced shooters provides additional advantages. Orsis carbines receive only positive reviews about reliability. Many people note another pleasant quality - domestic products are much cheaper than imported weapons.

Weapon reliability

The quality of the rifles produced is very high. This fact was recorded by experts in the field of small arms. It is confirmed by the results of numerous international competitions. In 2012, the Alpha team from the Russian Federation, equipped with the Orsis T-5000, won gold at the World Cup in the sniper discipline. The Orsis carbine is a regular participant in hunting competitions at the international level.

Experts also note that Orsis weapons products, in terms of accuracy, far exceed the characteristics of common models of sniper rifles. This is achieved thanks to the work of master gunsmiths who work with each part individually.

The reliability of Orsis carbines and rifles is ensured by the fact that their production uses materials that are almost impossible to destroy. Parts are manufactured by milling high-quality steel blanks. Casting and stamping are not used. The steel components represent only the barrel and bolt.

The most complex processes include the manufacture of barrels. The Orsis enterprise uses two methods. This is mandreling and single-pass cutting on CNC machines.

Weapon manufacturing technology allows for high repeatability of weapons. But these same processes also imply production flexibility. This allows production lines to produce weapons with individual properties.

The uniqueness of this production is that only Orsis was able to organize the production of so-called custom rifles. Such weapons were previously ordered from private gunsmiths. And only in the USA, in a country where there is extensive experience in creating custom weapons.

The plant also has plans to further expand the samples of rifles and carbines produced for hunting. The Orsis carbine, intended for hunting, is planned for further modernization. The plant's design bureau is developing promising weapons systems, including semi-automatic weapons, hunting rifles for driven hunting, and small-caliber products.

What is the secret of high accuracy of ORSIS

The T-5000 sniper rifle produced by the Promtekhnologii company is rightfully considered the most accurate in Russia and even abroad. It is difficult to earn such an assessment, especially considering the numerous foreign samples that are widespread within our country. What is the secret of her success?

First of all, this level of accuracy is achieved by the unique barrel manufacturing technology. Before Promtekhnologiya, this technology was used only in one company located in the USA. The meaning of this technological process is single-pass cutting. The entire process is carried out on a special machine controlled by complex software.

The machine itself, like the rifle, is entirely domestically produced.

Typically, this technology is used only when making a custom rifle. It is very expensive, but also extremely effective. Having established flow production, the Promtekhnologii Group of Companies achieved an error of 1 micron for each barrel.

But the T-5000 ORSIS rifle consists of more than just a barrel. It is undoubtedly important, but other elements also play a role. Each structural element is carefully processed and adjusted. And the high reliability of the materials prevents the body from deforming after a shot.

Another component is cartridges and optics. And if everything is fine with optics in Russia, then the ammunition for such rifles is extremely poor. Therefore, we had to use Western cartridges.

By creating the T-5000, Russian gunsmiths have proven the ability to produce high-precision sniper weapons. The cartridge used there is not domestic, but this does not prevent this weapon from gaining its place among the best rifles in the whole world.
