First of all, from my point of view, if you have the right to purchase weapons, then it would be much more logical to buy a “short-barreled gun” - the legislation in the Czech Republic is very liberal, and the dimensions of a pistol/revolver are much smaller. Agree, tinkering with a gun inside a car is a dubious pleasure.

But if you have no financial restrictions and you have chosen a shotgun for these purposes, well...

Keep in mind: in terms of application technique, the difference between a pump-action shotgun and a semi-automatic is very significant. The “pump” allows you to work with a projectile of almost any weight: from rubber bullets to a Magnum cartridge with fifty grams of buckshot. Semi-automatic machines are much more demanding in this sense.

I believe that for sport and “self-defense” purposes you should have different weapons. At the same time, it is not at all necessary to look for the “military” model M590. The simplest short-barreled modifications of the M500 and the simplified budget Maverick 88 are unlikely to be inferior in reliability to their “military” counterpart. Although the Mossberg is not suitable for practical shooting (it is inferior in speed of “sports” loading to models with a lower feed tray), it is a worthy choice for self-defense purposes.
