American short-barreled firearms have always been valued. American-made pneumatics were no exception. For example, the Crosman 1377 American Classic air pistol. Users became acquainted with it back in 1977, and its production is still ongoing, practically unchanged. So the addition to the name – classic, is not at all superfluous, it is truly a classic of the genre and has been like that for more than four decades.
Description
This model is difficult to classify as a short barrel, since this part is just long. For its manufacture, like the body, high-quality weapons-grade steel was used. The forend and handle lining are made of high-strength plastic. All other parts are made from the same material, except for the shutter, which is copper.
The large amount of polymer means that, despite its large size, the weight of the weapon is quite small, only 910 grams. Some will say that this is a lot, but for a pistol of this size it is quite small.
The length of the barrel is due to the fact that for firing it is not carbon dioxide from a can that is used, but compressed air, which is pumped up with a special lever. Its role is played by the forend, which the inventors of the pistol made folding.
The ammunition used is standard 4.5 mm pneumatic bullets. But don’t think that their shot is not serious. At maximum pumping - 10 times - the bullet flies out of the barrel at a speed of 180 m/s, which allows you to smash the bottle to smithereens at a distance of 10 meters. At the same time, the spread of the bullets is only 2-3 cm, although the accuracy decreases with increasing distance.
As you already understood, for shooting you need to pump the tank with air using a pump. The instructions for the pistol state:
- The optimal number of pumps is 5, which is enough to make a shot.
- Less than three - there will be no shot, the bullet simply will not come out of the barrel.
- The maximum allowed number of pumps is 10, otherwise you can break the weapon, since its mechanics are simply not designed for a larger number of pumps.
To pump air you need to lower and raise the forend. Also, when shooting, this part can be used as a rest in the reclined position.
Despite such a menacing appearance, there is no recoil when firing, and there is also no sound.
The aiming system consists of two parts - front sight and rear sight. If desired, the owner can install optics, but this will require purchasing devices in the form of rings that allow it to be installed. There is no regular place for installing optics.
Many owners are not satisfied with the large size of the pistol; they believe that it interferes with normal shooting. To avoid this, the creators provided for the installation of a butt, which turns the pistol into a carbine. True, you need to buy an additional part; it is not included in the standard package.
Tuning
If desired, you can make an upgrade, namely, it is relatively easy to increase (albeit not much) the power of the shot. To do this, you need to increase the length of the rammer - the “original” part installs the bullet just above the valve.
The upgrade steps are as follows:
- A part is selected that will serve as an extension cord. This could be a thin knitting needle or a nail. You need to build up about 10 mm - so we cut off a part.
- We fix the extension on the rammer spout by drilling a thin hole on it.
- The end of the extension is sanded with fine sandpaper.
In addition, air leaks can be further minimized by sealing the system.
To do this, you will need a set of rubber rings, which can be obtained either by disassembling a regular gas lighter, or by purchasing it at a plumbing store or air conditioning repair service (in this case, you will have to determine the ring sizes yourself). The tuning stages are as follows:
- One ring - we pull it behind the “original” elastic band installed on the rammer.
- Another ring is put on the long part of the bypass sleeve. This is done using a watch screwdriver.
Advantages and disadvantages
Each person has their own views on these characteristics. The same position can be taken in different ways, for example, the size of the weapon. Some consider this a minus, because with a large pistol in your hands it is difficult to aim, it is difficult to hold it in your hands, while others, on the contrary, consider this an undoubted advantage - huge, which means powerful.
Consumers include the undoubted advantages of the described weapon:
- High power and high bullet speed compared to analogues. 180 m/s versus 120-140.
- Good accuracy - at 10 meters the spread does not exceed 2-3 cm.
- Low cost - on average it is 6,500 rubles.
- An unusual design that will attract anyone's attention.
- The pistol is self-contained thanks to the pumping system, because no gas canisters are required to fire.
Of the minuses, the owners note the following:
- Before each shot, it is necessary to pump the tank. Moreover, each subsequent movement requires more and more effort from the owner.
- To install an additional sight, you need to buy special devices for mounting it.
- The descent is too tight, and it’s not even worth talking about smoothness.
TTX
The device has the following characteristics:
- The body and barrel are made of high-quality weapon steel.
- For the forend and external linings, plastic with increased strength characteristics is used.
- The energy source for the shot is an adjustable pump. No external sources are used.
- Weapon length 346 mm.
- Weight and caliber 910 gr. and 4.5 mm respectively.
- Typically, when shooting from similar weapons, explosive balls are used, but here bullets are made of lead. The thing is that the barrel of this pistol is rifled, and the balls can damage the rifling when fired.
- A lead bullet flies at a speed of more than 180 m/s and travels more than a hundred meters.
As already mentioned, only the front and rear sights are installed at the factory.
The first one is not adjustable, it does not have fiber optic threads. The second is a narrow slot, also without threads, but with the ability to adjust in two planes - vertical and horizontal. It is configured at the factory, so the pistol does not require special zeroing.
Immediately behind the rear sight, the manufacturer placed a compartment for bullets through which loading occurs. To do this, you need to manually move the shutter back (up and back), thereby opening the required compartment. We insert the bullet and the bolt comes back, pull the trigger, fire. For the next shot, you need to repeat everything - pumping, loading the bullet, etc.
A fuse located behind the trigger prevents an accidental shot. It is non-automatic, has two positions - when you slide it to the left, you can fire a shot; when you slide it to the right, the hook is blocked accordingly.

Disassembly and care
The parsing procedure is quite simple, anyone can handle it.
- The process begins with unscrewing the linings. Next, using a hex wrench, unscrew the screw located inside the bullet compartment. You can find it by opening the indicated compartment.
- Then you need to unscrew the screws securing the handle, they are located in front and behind the trigger. The handle must be removed carefully so as not to displace the safety spring.
- To remove the rear sight from the receiver, unscrew the screw, then take out the plug that was holding it in place and remove the spring.
- Next, we separate the receiver from the pump pipe and remove the box from the barrel.
- The next step is to remove the barrel and guide. We move the pin on the pump pipe back and remove it.
- The last step is to remove the firing pin from the pipe. That's it, disassembling the pistol is finished.
