Crosman C-TT air pistol - a high-quality copy of a combat analogue

One of the most popular models on the air gun market is the TT air pistol, produced by various companies. The high demand for this model is due to the historical factor, the role that the military analogue played during the Great Patriotic War and in the post-war years. Many, both adults and children, want to touch a piece of the history of their homeland, especially made in such an entourage form factor.

The TT pistol was developed by Tula gunsmith Fedor Vasilyevich Tokarev for the competition of a single army pistol for the Red Army, announced in 1929. After eliminating the shortcomings identified by the commission, the pistol was put into service in 1931 under the name “7.62 mm TT pistol.”

When designing it, Tokarev actively used foreign experience, so the barrel locking scheme and trigger were taken from the Browning design, the appearance was from the Browning model 1903 pistol, the cartridge was used in Mauser 7.63 caliber, adapted to Soviet realities. But at the same time, domestic gunsmiths made significant proprietary improvements and changes to the design of the pistol, which increased ease of use and combat characteristics.

Air pistols TT Tokarev

In general, there are quite a lot of pneumatic TT replicas on the market, so we will briefly consider the main ones, and only then, in detail, the most interesting models. As a rule, they are produced in 4.5 mm caliber, using the energy of CO2 in a can, and are designed to fire copper-coated steel balls. There are models with both a blowback, that is, an imitation of the shutter, and with a fixed shutter.

An interesting option is offered by the Gletcher company - the gletcher tt nbb Tokarev air pistol.

The main disadvantage of this model is that it is made of plastic, which ensures a very light weight of the weapon, only 400 grams. The trigger is made of steel, which ensures the reliability of its operation. The pistol is equipped with a reliable safety lock; there is no imitation of the bolt operation.

Technical characteristics are typical for this type of pistol:

Caliber 4.5 mm
Initial bullet speed 130 ms
Magazine capacity 15
Weapon weight (g) 389
Energy source CO2 cylinder
Material of manufacture Plastic
Power (J) 3
Trunk Smooth
Gate Fixed
Ammunition type Steel shot 4.5 mm
Shooting mode Single

Its main advantages are its low price and light weight, which allows it to be used even by children.

Another replica of the same company is the gletcher tt blowback air pistol.

Its special feature is that the gun is made of a metal alloy, making it heavier and more realistic. The magazine holds 18 steel round bullets and is equipped with a 12 gram CO2 cartridge.

The main advantage of this weapon is that it has a working bolt stop. That is, after the ammunition is used up, the bolt moves to the rear position and stops, simultaneously cocking the hammer. After loading the magazine and inserting it into the handle with the reset button, the bolt stop is reset, and the pistol bolt moves forward, sending ammunition into the barrel. In addition, the trigger is made identical to its combat counterpart, that is, it is designed for firing from a preliminary cocking. To fire the first shot, it is necessary to jerk the bolt, thereby cocking the hammer into the firing position. And, in addition, the Gletcher TT is equipped with a blowback system, which adds realism to shooting.

The TT Smersh H51 pistol is a fairly well made Chinese replica.

The magazine is designed to accommodate 17 copper-plated steel balls and is removed in the same way as its combat counterpart, by pressing the magazine reset button. The shutter is made motionless, cocking is carried out with a finger. The pistol is equipped with a safety camouflaged as a slide release button. What adds to the external attractiveness of this weapon is that the clamping screw is hidden, and its rotation is carried out using a special hex key.

The TTP SOBR pistol is produced in Ukraine and quite rarely in the Russian Federation.

By and large, this is a combat pistol in which pneumatic internals are installed - a gas cylinder unit, a 4.5 mm caliber barrel, and so on. The original magazine and ejector on the bolt add to the external realism. But the build quality is extremely mediocre, there are numerous flaws in metal processing, backlash, low accuracy of fire, and it is quite expensive.

What pneumatics should you buy?

For a beginner, a pistol with a power of no more than 2 J is more suitable. The flight speed of the bullet should be approximately 120 m/sec. The air gun should weigh no more than 700 g and be compact. When thinking about which one is better to buy, you should pay attention to the presence of a manual safety lock.

Ammunition type

Most pneumatic-type models are intended for entertainment and firing from a short distance, and therefore are loaded with steel explosive balls, releasing them from a smooth barrel (except for models from Izhevsk, which use rifled-type barrels, despite the fact that sub-caliber balls in notches are not screwed). They are excellent at breaking glass materials, but from long distances when firing at targets they are characterized by poor accuracy.

Pistols with an extended barrel are relatively multifunctional, but the Russian MP-651KS and MP-654K have the ability to load the Gamo Round from lead materials if you want to practice accuracy. Models based on bullets are much more interesting from the point of view of accuracy - bullets fired from a rifled barrel shoot more concentrated, but you will have to pay for this with less ammunition, since it is possible to place the bullets exclusively in the revolver clip or to recharge them one at a time.

Gas or multi-compression?

The key advantage of “perelok” and MK-type models is that there is no need for cylinders: it is more profitable to fire, however, the speed of the shot drops significantly. Such pneumatics are single-shot, which, in principle, quickly improves “shot discipline”, since it will not be possible to quickly shoot about 10 supplies at a target by adjusting the rear sight on the fly.

Internal mechanics

As for the internal structure of models on gas cartridges, with all the variety of solutions, there are few different form factors:

With a fixed barrel

In designs with a fixed-type barrel, when the trigger mechanism hits the valve, the gas flow covers the ball, which is located at the top of the holder (for example, model MP-654K) or from the drum chamber facing the valve (revolvers), pushing it into the barrel.

The design is simple, high-quality, the fixed-type barrel has good accuracy, but at the same time there are large side costs (in the first situation - into the barrel of the clip, between the clip and the barrel, in the second - between the frame and the drum), and therefore similar models either they don’t burn as hard, or they consume a large amount of gas.

With movable barrel

The design of the movable type barrel takes into account the fact that the mainspring is installed directly on the barrel: when pressing the trigger mechanism, the barrel moves forward, extending beyond the size of the pistol, then, when removed from the sear, it takes the ball and hits the valve, at the same time strengthening the play.

Ultimately, you get a powerful shot with little gas consumption, but at the same time there is a need to fire exclusively by self-cocking (this results in a complex and long-stroke trigger), and the barrel itself after some time (and if you buy an affordable pistol from China, then and immediately) will acquire a backlash.

Is a blowback necessary?

Of course, simulating the return of the damper adds realism, but it requires its own dose of gas, in other words, the model will either not be as powerful or “eat” more gas. At the same time, not in every case the blowback is functional; in other words, the damper there returns back solely for beauty, without erecting the trigger mechanism and without sending the ball.

On more sophisticated pistols, the function of the blowback involves cocking the trigger mechanism to a lesser extent - as a result - a smooth trigger and good accuracy, while in affordable models one way or another you will have to fire by self-cocking.

In conclusion, it is worth noting that buying pneumatic guns for the purpose of self-defense is pointless and ridiculous. Even on the Internet they often joke about this, saying that only one model is suitable for these purposes, namely the domestic MP-654K, because it will not break if it hits someone.

Device MP 656

The MP 656 device is shown in the figure below:

The MP656 mechanism is made of weapons-grade steel, coated with a blued finish to increase service life and appearance. The pistol is equipped with a 4.5 mm caliber barrel, but the muzzle has an imitation of a 7.62 mm caliber barrel. The magazine is made in a single format, that is, it is equipped with balls, and then a CO2 canister is placed in it. It should be noted that such a strange design solution is that each magazine is customized to fit its pistol. A magazine from another pistol of the same model will either not work or will require modification.

In order to load the magazine with ammunition, you need to pull down the spring-loaded feeder and load the balls one at a time. It should be noted that the placement of balls in the magazine is single-row, on the one hand this reduces the amount of ammunition, and on the other hand it increases the reliability of the magazine, since there are no distortions and sticking of the balls.

A CO2 gas cartridge, placed in the magazine seat using an open clamping screw, is pushed onto the needle of the gas unit, and then pierced. The gas unit is located at the top of the handle. By the way, as a rule, the first step in tuning the MP 656 is replacing the open clamping screw with a hidden one.

The barrel is rifled, but high accuracy is out of the question due to the specifics of the ammunition used. The pistol is quite suitable for recreational shooting and is not suitable for target shooting.

Shooting is only possible with pre-cocking, that is, each time you need to either jerk the bolt while cocking the hammer, or simply cock the hammer with your finger. This scheme allows you to save gas consumption.

Device

The all-steel mechanism of the MP-656 TT pistol with a caliber of 4.5 mm ensures strength and a specific clang during disassembly. The extension of the barrel at the muzzle creates the illusion of a combat caliber of 7.62 mm, while the real barrel (4.5 mm) is made in the form of an internal insert.

The compartment for balls and a cylinder with liquefied carbon dioxide is located in a removable magazine, which, due to its individual fit, is suitable only for “your” pistol. Each additional store has to be modified separately.

The balls are poured into the neck of the magazine after the spring-loaded feeder is pulled down. Arranging the balls in one row reduces the duration of continuous shooting, but prevents delays and increases operational reliability.

The cylinder is screwed into the magazine using a screw stop. Its prominent elongated ring at the bottom distinguishes an air pistol from a combat pistol and can be replaced with a countersunk screw. At the top of the store there is a bypass chamber for carbon dioxide and a valve system.

The presence of rifling in the barrel increases the accuracy of hits compared to smooth-bore versions. Twisting the balls, which are fundamentally not intended for accurate shooting, stabilizes the flight path and has a positive effect on accuracy.

The trigger is almost completely copied from the original prototype. The trigger is cocked with the thumb of the shooting hand or by jerking the bolt frame. There is no “blowback” mechanism for self-cocking, since its presence would greatly reduce the number of shots fired from the cylinder due to the tight return spring.

Disassembly and care of MP 656

Disassembly is carried out in the following order:

  • unlock the magazine from the pistol, first making sure that there are no balls in the barrel;
  • Move the shutter release button using a special screwdriver. The key is located on the right side of the bolt carrier;
  • move forward to remove the shutter;
  • remove the trigger block;
  • remove the mainspring;
  • unlock the locking ring;
  • remove the barrel.

It is recommended to lubricate the MP 656 units using gun oil, which does not destroy the rubber gaskets. You can use silicone grease.

Pros and cons of the domestic MP 656

The advantages of MP656 are:

  • High degree of copyability of the combat analogue;
  • Simple and reliable design;
  • One CO2 cartridge can fire up to 60 shots;
  • Wide field for independent modifications;
  • This is an all iron pistol.

The disadvantages of MP656 are:

  • Possibility of firing only from pre-cocking;
  • Primitive sights;
  • Low shot power;
  • Since each MP656 is assembled from scattered parts of combat pistols, the numbers rarely match, which reduces the collectible value of the weapon.

It is recommended to shoot in specially designated areas, observing safety precautions.

Tuning MP 656

As a rule, first of all, the open clamping screw is replaced with a countersunk one to give it an external replica.

Often, users carry out a number of developments aimed at increasing the speed of the ball and, as a result, the power of the shot. Increased power is achieved by increasing the volume of the pneumatic chamber and increasing the diameter of the combat valve. This operation almost completely eliminates freezing of the pistol, due to the peculiarity of CO2 during active shooting.

In addition, the power of the shot can be increased by cutting the valve spring by 1 turn, which will weaken it. As a result, gas consumption per shot will increase, which will ensure an increase in power.

Tuning

To make the gun look more believable, it is necessary to erase all the inscriptions from the barrel. This can be done using fine-grained sandpaper. Buy the finest one and rub very carefully so as not to damage the base paint.

After disassembly, it is necessary to remove debris; if any, the threaded connections can be sealed with FUM tape. Remove all excess grease.

You can drill out the hole on the valve a little to get an increase in speed. This is not recommended, since such an operation will only lead to an increase in gas consumption, and will also significantly reduce accuracy due to excess gas at the outlet of the barrel.

Due to the design features of this pistol, it is possible to make a Blowback. To do this, you can buy an original gasket for the piston on the bolt carrier from Gletcher TT or make it yourself.

To make it yourself, you need to buy a 5-cc syringe with a rubber seal. We cut off the conical part from it and sand it. Next, remove the elastic band and cut off approximately 0.05 mm from the back. We pierce a hole and put a piston on the needle. There is no need to remove the retaining ring.

Crosman c tt air pistol review

The Crosman TT is designed for recreational shooting both at a shooting range and just at banks. The so-called “plinking”. At the same time, it has good copyability and good execution. The pistol is made of a metal alloy, which is why it feels identical to a combat pistol in the hand. The operation of the shutter is not provided, which ensures economical gas consumption and, accordingly, a large number of shots from one CO2 cartridge.

Purchase

You can still buy a new pistol that is a copy of the legendary TT today, despite the fact that this model is no longer produced. In fact, production slightly exceeded demand, resulting in unsold copies remaining in warehouses.

But in the process of hunting for models released before 2011, the price gradually increased. If a pistol assembled “from scratch” can be bought for 5-6 thousand rubles, then earlier versions should be looked for only on the secondary market. You need to be prepared for inflated prices.

By the way, when making a transaction, make sure that the seller provides a certificate for the pistol. This will eliminate the need to submit the weapon to the licensing department for additional certification.

Advantages and disadvantages

The advantages of the Crosman TT are:

  • High level of copies;
  • Full metal alloy body;
  • Good workmanship;
  • High ball release speed;
  • High-quality paint coating, resistant to abrasion;
  • Possibility of firing both self-cocking and pre-cocking;

The disadvantages of the Crosman TT are:

  • Requires disassembly and adjustment immediately after purchase;
  • The fuse is made of fragile plastic, which raises doubts about its performance and durability;
  • The gun is made of a rather fragile metal zinc alloy, prone to cracks from minor loads;
  • The system for simulating shutter operation has not been implemented;
  • Third-party inscriptions placed by the manufacturer reduce the level of copying;
  • The pistol as a whole is a compilation of features from TTs of various years of production.

Tuning and repair

Repair work, as well as tuning work on a pistol, require certain skills. To obtain reliable information, you can read the instructions. But if the repair work boils down to replacing the valve gaskets, then tuning is not considered a standard procedure and is aimed at increasing the impact characteristics of the pistol.

There is enough information on the Internet about tuning. You can find detailed instructions that describe the valve boring process. Such manipulations increase the supply of gas portion per ball. As a result, the energy of the ball increases and the range of the shot increases.

In parallel with boring the valve, it is necessary to carry out work to increase the dispenser chamber. The valve only increases its capacity, but the amount of gas will increase only after the volume increases.

Before tuning, it is necessary to determine its legality. Let us remind you that the free carrying and storage of pneumatic weapons is permitted if its muzzle energy does not exceed 7 J and its caliber does not exceed 4.5 mm. If, during the work, these parameters are exceeded, the owner may experience certain problems.

In particular, Article 222 of the Criminal Code provides for criminal liability for the possession of firearms (for those who want to convert pneumatics into injuries), and Article 223 determines the punishment for the manufacture of weapons, that is, for their conversion.

Which brand of air pistols is better? Many believe that this is Umarex, famous for its quality.

Surprisingly nice weapon. Compact and small, it is nevertheless quite heavy. Once you pick it up, it becomes clear that this is not a toy weapon, but a very serious contender for being in this rating.

As an addition, this model has a mount for a laser sight.

Among the advantages of this model, we are pleased to note the very high-quality assembly - the German manufacturer lives up to its big name.

The downside is that it does not have a record rate of fire, although this indicator is successfully compensated for by accuracy.

The average price is 12,000 rubles. See the material about the Walther cp99 air pistol.
