Competent self-defense is a guarantee that you will protect yourself and the attacker will not be seriously injured. There are limits to necessary self-defense, which are permissible to cross only in the event of a direct threat to life and health. But there is also a way to stop the aggressor without causing him severe harm, and to remain unharmed. A traumatic pistol helps to stop the attacker, and you get the opportunity to technically escape and call the police, after making sure that no serious harm has been caused to the attacker’s health. In such cases, running away is not a shame at all and your self-esteem should not suffer. This is the only sure and correct way to avoid a second attack. There are plenty of traumatic pistols on the market - different models, different types, you can choose to suit every taste. Just first you need to decide what kind of injury you need and for what purposes. For some it is safety that is important, for others it is power, for others they just want to buy a pistol for their collection or have a copy of a specific combat pistol, and for others it is important to learn how to handle weapons. From a variety of injuries you can choose for each case.
It’s good if a citizen knows what model he needs, but if he’s never been interested in weapons before, then it’s better to read reviews of specific models, talk to consultants in a gun store, study the characteristics, and based on this you can make an informed choice. And although many reviews and articles contain information that it is almost impossible to protect yourself with the help of trauma, this has nothing to do with reality. Characteristics of injuries
Before we begin to describe the types of traumatic weapons, it is worth recalling the reform of weapons legislation in 2011, which had a tremendous impact on the requirements for traumatic weapons. Because of this, the upper threshold for the power of all injuries was reduced to 91 J, imported samples were not certified and prohibited for sale, domestic ones were modified - teeth or a pin were added to the barrel, reducing muzzle energy. Therefore, there is no point in considering this parameter for trauma vehicles approved for sale in Russia, since for both the expensive GP T-12 and the budget MP-79 it will be approximately the same and not exceed 97 J. Therefore, let’s go over the main characteristics.
T4 Terminator
T4 Terminator is a spectacular traumatic weapon designed in the form of a shotgun with a longitudinally sliding fore-end and uses ammunition based on a 12-gauge rifle cartridge. The capacity of its under-barrel magazine is 4 rounds. The civilian use of this sample appears to be ineffective.
With a half-meter length, concealed or even mobile carrying is out of the question. The loaded weight reaches 2 kg. The power of the gun is significantly inferior to its service counterparts, although it is comparable to the most powerful pistols of the OOOP family. The only undeniable advantage of the T4 is its impressive appearance, probably designed primarily to scare off the enemy.
Types of traumatic weapons
There are three types of LLC, and each has its own distinctive features, advantages and disadvantages.
Automatic
. Typically, such pistols are made on the basis of a combat prototype. The automatic system operates on a blowback recoil scheme, since the shot power is low. Equipped with box magazines with a maximum capacity of 10 rounds. It does not matter whether the magazine is single-row or double-row – the total number of rounds does not exceed ten. Some models may have a magazine with a larger capacity, but equipped with a limiter, which, however, can be easily removed. If you train at a shooting range or shooting range, then there will be no complaints against you even if you equip the magazine with more than ten rounds. But if you interest the police in the city, and there are more cartridges in the magazine than allowed, then a fine cannot be avoided.
Pistols are a large part of the entire OOO, and they successfully compensate for their low reliability with their rate of fire and ease of reloading.
The main advantages are multiple charges, small dimensions, fast reloading, high rate of fire.
The downside is that there may be delays when shooting due to wedges and non-feeds.
Revolvers
. Similar to automatic pistols, revolvers are most often made on the basis of models of military firearms. The principle of operation is mechanical, double-action trigger. Power is supplied from traditional drums. Unlike other types of firearms, a revolver always has a cartridge in the chamber, it is always ready to fire, therefore, it is more efficient. The impossibility of wedges and non-feeds significantly increases its reliability, and a misfired cartridge can simply be skipped by pressing the trigger again. However, revolvers, including traumatic ones, are difficult to reload - the cartridge case of a traumatic gun is thinner and it often inflates in the chamber of the drum. It is almost impossible to pull it out without a cleaning rod.

- When shooting with self-cocking, it is harder to press the trigger, and accuracy suffers as a result, unlike revolvers with a pre-cocked hammer.
Barrelless weapon
. This is truly a special category of OOOP, since here the barrel is an elongated sleeve. These are mostly new, unlike anything else, models whose operating principle is based on mechanics or electronics. Therefore, it will not be possible to isolate general points; each trunkless has its own advantages and disadvantages. But usually they provide good reliability, although the ammunition capacity leaves much to be desired - only two or four rounds.
Vendetta
Vendetta - this domestic licensed copy of the Italian INNA pistol inherited all its pros and cons from the original. The widespread use of composite materials facilitates the design, but also affects reliability. In addition, the unreasonably large ammunition capacity—10 rounds—negates the advantages of polymer parts.
The muzzle energy of about 80 Joules with a 9 mm caliber provides more than sufficient stopping effect, and the length of the barrel allows you to confidently hit the target at distances comparable to combat models. Such characteristics are largely redundant for self-defense weapons and do not at all reduce the cost. However, this model is perfect for shooting at a shooting range.
Calibers of traumatic weapons
The size of the bullet determines its penetrating and stopping power. A small bullet is aggressive, lighter and faster, so it can easily penetrate soft tissue. A heavy and large bullet will transfer its energy to the target as efficiently as possible.
A dilemma arises - what ammunition to use? A large caliber can be compared to a blow from a good boxer; it is unlikely that your opponent will remain on his feet afterward. But the impact of a small bullet is more noticeable, and moreover, they can inflict serious wounds, including fatal ones, which is very, very undesirable for the owner of the weapon.
Grand Power T15-F
Among all the traumatic pistols of the classical layout, this giant is distinguished by its dimensions and impressive 45 caliber. It has impressive stopping properties and is reliable in operation.
The magazine holds from 7 to 10 rounds, depending on the type of ammunition used. The diameter of the rubber bullet reaches 15 mm, which has a positive effect on the accuracy and range of the shot. The Grand Power for concealed carry and requires careful handling, but it can please fans of shooting at the shooting range.
Purpose
Weapons, whether traumatic or military, are not always purchased for self-defense. Many people take it to emphasize brutality. In this case, you want to buy a big gun and walk on the street so that everyone can see it. If you are not bothered by the increased attention of police patrols and endless requests to present your weapon for inspection, then you can carry a weapon anyway. There are also people who buy traumatic weapons for collection, especially if they are made according to the prototype of a traditional combat weapon.
- Self-defense. Any traumatic weapon copes well with this task - it effectively stops the attacker. An example of a high-quality weapon for self-defense is the legendary Wasp, whose design focuses on efficiency.
- Shooting practice. By using a pistol during training that most accurately copies a combat prototype, you can gain good skills in handling firearms.
- Entertaining shooting. Here, inexpensive models with budget ammunition are most often found. It can also serve for self-defense, but it will perform much better in shooting at cans and plywood.
Which pistol model should you choose?
Each person has their own preferences and goals for purchasing traumatic weapons. It is better for female representatives to choose something from the options that does not have a trunk, so as not to burden themselves with excess weight and can easily use it if necessary. For greater solidity and confidence, men should pay attention to copies of popular combat pistols, such as TT or PM. But no matter what type of weapon you choose, make sure when purchasing that it works correctly. Check the operation of the trigger mechanism; the trigger should work smoothly, without failure. The fuse should not be difficult to switch. Also check that the trigger does not move when the safety is on.
Dimensions
There is no clear opinion here, since everyone has their own needs and requirements for traumatic weapons. Some people want to carry weapons ostentatiously, while others, on the contrary, prefer to carry them concealed. Large dimensions significantly increase the weight of the pistol, and a heavy pistol, as we remember, shoots more accurately due to less toss when firing. A small pistol is good for the effect of surprise - suddenly seeing the barrel of a pistol, the attacker will most likely hastily retreat to somewhere far away.
Taurus LOM-13
The short-barreled Brazilian revolver Taurus LOM-13 has the most balanced characteristics on the market. Although a 5-centimeter barrel will not provide long-range shooting, it will significantly reduce the size of the weapon. Ergonomic contours also contribute to comfortable wearing.
The small dimensions of the weapon made it possible to use high-quality steel in the design without a significant increase in weight. The ammunition load of five 9-mm cartridges can be considered sufficient, and the price of the revolver is much more reasonable than most of its competitors. The weapon is perfect for self-defense, but will be of little use for other purposes.
Training in handling traumatic weapons
If you have already decided to purchase this means of self-defense, then be sure to take courses to learn the necessary skills. It is necessary to be able not only to fire an accurate shot at the target, but also to quickly and correctly remove the pistol from the holster. You can train with the holster at home. If there are too many external parts, they will cling to your clothes and steal precious seconds from you during training. Take this nuance into account when choosing a model.
Well, everyone who wants to protect themselves with the help of injury should ask themselves - am I ready to shoot a person? And if the answer is negative, then it is better to choose a different method of self-defense.
Many owners naively believe that taking a pistol out of a holster will scare the aggressor with just one look, especially if it copies the appearance of any well-known model of military weapon. This is a fundamentally wrong point of view, we explain why:
The very fact of having a weapon can only stop and bring some sense to an adequate person. If the attacker in front of you is under the influence of alcohol or drugs, then the appearance of a pistol in your hand will only provoke him more and he may suddenly go on the attack. Therefore, you should not take out your weapon and hesitate, hoping for the prudence of the aggressor. Always follow the “Get a gun, shoot” rule. This is not a call for mandatory use of a pistol; on the contrary, it is a call for the fact that it is necessary to take a pistol out of a holster only as a last resort. You should also remember that the gun is designed to fire a certain number of shots. If you are a beginner and need some practice, choose from the models with the highest stated number of shots.
Thunderstorm-01
The developers of this Russian pistol put compactness, simplicity and reliability at the forefront. It is 5-6 centimeters shorter than most of its classmates, which facilitates hidden placement. In addition, this is one of the lightest models of its kind - less than 500 grams.
The magazine capacity is 7 rounds of 9 mm caliber. You shouldn't expect impressive fire characteristics from it, although most of the indicators are at least at a satisfactory level. Groza-01 is the optimal personal self-defense device.
Kalashnikov assault rifle
You can often see noise-making AKs on the shelves of gun and sporting goods stores. As a rule, this is a cold machine gun, that is, made from a combat one. It can be used for disassembly training. The noise AK fires blank cartridges, and both single-shot and burst firing are provided. Noise AKs are used for school and college military sports games, training in machine gun disassembly, etc.
The civilian population has the opportunity to purchase a traumatic pistol, but an assault rifle does not have such a model. The Kalashnikov traumatic assault rifle, if it were produced, would be without the ability to fire in bursts, as is implemented in the Saiga carbines. Just like the machine gun, the traumatic version of the Esaul submachine gun is deprived of burst fire. Converting it to use as a vehicle light is illegal.
“Traumatic machine gun” is the name often given to the pneumatic version, which is made of metal and wood and exactly replicates the appearance of the legendary machine gun. A traumatic pistol is designed for targeted shooting at a distance of up to 20 meters, and a pneumatic AK produces the same indicators. The price is also very reasonable, it ranges from seven to twenty thousand rubles.
The bullet's flight speed is very high for pneumatics: 130 m/sec; if it hits an unprotected place, it can cause injury. The AK is the favorite weapon of people who are fond of airsoft and hardball, but given that the magazine in various models can hold up to three hundred bullets, and one carbon dioxide cylinder in gas-cylinder models is enough for less than a hundred shots, an electric drive system was implemented. Instead of a cylinder, an electric compressor was used, which, in turn, runs on a battery. Such modernization made it possible to use the machine gun in military field games.
A traumatic weapon is primarily created for self-defense, it must be small and comfortable to carry, and an assault rifle is not suitable for these purposes, but an air pistol can also cause serious damage, so safety always comes first.

Among other traumatic weapons, this unusual-looking pistol stands out not only for its barrelless design, but also for its monstrous caliber - 20.5 mm. An ammunition load of two cartridges is vertically located in a special cassette, which is placed on the front of the weapon. The body is made of plastic, which, combined with its small size, significantly increases its compactness. The simplicity of the internal structure provides excellent reliability.

More about Safari mini
This is a Ukrainian-made injury. It is produced by Kharkov. The basis for the production of the traumatic “baby” was the Czech automatic combat pistol “ZVI Kevin” - by the way, the smallest combat pistol in the whole world. The Safari mini pistol is an almost exact external copy of the Czech military analogue.
The Ukrainian manufacturer produces three modifications of this injury. Although they are similar in appearance, they nevertheless differ in some design features:
- The first modification is a pistol with plastic cheeks on the handle;
- The second modification is a pistol with ordinary wooden cheeks;
- The third modification is a pistol with gilded wooden cheeks.
Dismantling Stechkin
Partial disassembly and regular cleaning are mandatory for the owner of any type of weapon.
The main steps are as follows:
- Get the clip.
- Make sure there is no cartridge in the chamber.
- Cock the hammer, lower the trigger guard.
- Pull the bolt carrier back, lift the rear up, move the bolt forward and remove it from the barrel.
- Remove the return spring.
Next, work is carried out to clean and lubricate the weapon, and assembly is carried out in the reverse order.

Safari mini is convenient
Despite some skepticism regarding ease of use, most gun owners still agree that the Safari mini-injury is a very easy-to-use weapon. Due to its design features, it does not have a fuse. In this regard, the weapon can constantly have a charge in the chamber, and still it will not fire, which is very convenient - especially in conflict situations, when every second can count. In terms of thickness, this weapon is second only to the Russian traumatic PSM, but the Safari mini is shorter than the PSM by as much as 39 mm, and 25 mm lower than it. It is very convenient to store it in your pocket, where it is out of the way.
As for the above-mentioned skepticism, it must be admitted that it is not entirely unfounded. Due to its minimal size and the fact that the controls are located literally end-to-end on the weapon, using the pistol causes some difficulties, especially for shooters with large hands. “Baby” Safari literally sinks into large palms.
Sig Sauer P226T TK
It is a traumatic copy of the legendary pistol, from which its highest reliability naturally follows. All components, except the barrel, are supplied by the original P226 factory, so the shooting accuracy is comparable to combat counterparts. The dimensions also correspond to those of its combat brother, which does not make concealed carrying easier. Magazine capacity is 10 rounds of 10 mm caliber.
Among other samples in its weight category, the Sig Sauer P226T TK produces the highest stopping and penetrating performance. This may be overkill for self-defense purposes, but it does not detract from the pistol's other advantages.
