Army dry rations IRP-B (daily) August-September 22.

Home / Products / Army packed rations

A fighter's diet must be high-calorie, rational, including all the necessary nutrients to maintain physical strength and endurance in service. For nutrition in the field, an individual diet is provided (IRP). Another name for this food kit is army dry rations.

Rations are used not only in the army. They are popular among tourists, hunters, and fishermen. Dry rations are freely available. Convenient enough to use. The kit includes products that could easily constitute the daily diet of an adult. One portion of dry rations, designed for one soldier, may very well be enough for two or three people on a campaign.

Composition of dry rations

When the military needed land or sea campaigns, the problem always arose - how to preserve food for their soldiers for a long time. The ideal way to feed a soldier is a fresh, hot, multi-course meal prepared in a field kitchen. But this is not always possible. It was for this case that the dry ration was developed. Dry rations are food for field conditions. IRP is designed to provide the human body with the necessary energy and nutrients. It may include various foods.

Typically, dry rations include the following food products:

  • Canned food: stew, canned porridge, stew. Condensed milk was recently excluded from the set - the shelf life is too short;
  • Freeze-dried or dried foods: instant soups or borscht, dried fruits, milk powder, instant coffee, juices;
  • Crackers, crackers or biscuits;
  • Vitamins and food additives (spices, salt, sugar).

In addition to food, the dry ration should include disposable tableware, napkins, devices for heating food and means for disinfecting water.

Water is not included in the IRP. Water bottles are supplied separately. To heat food, dry fuel and various burners of the simplest design are usually used. The products included in the dry ration were selected in such a way that they could be consumed cold. However, in this case, the products will not be as tasty and will be less absorbed by the body.

Dry rations vary in type and composition. So, there are rations designed for one meal, or for the number of meals during one day. Rations are designed individually for a person’s energy consumption in a specific situation. The higher the energy consumption of the ration consumer, the higher the calorie content of the dry ration should be.

Despite some differences in composition, army rations for all military personnel are balanced according to the daily content of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates.

The average caloric value of an individual diet is 2500-3000 kcal, weight from 750 grams to almost two kilograms.

Types of dry rations

There is a large list of types of dry rations. Each set was developed specifically for certain situations or occasions:

  • Emergency. This is a nutrition kit for crews of airplanes and helicopters that have crashed (stowage standard No. 20). There is also a “marine” version of this dry ration; it is intended for personnel in distress at sea and on life-saving equipment (stuff standard No. 19).
  • Everyday. This is IRP-P. has different numbers, is designed for a day (for three meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner), and is not much different from a combat one, it is slightly smaller in weight and calorie content, it is used for everyday activities, in the absence of a field kitchen.
  • Reinforced. IRP-U.
  • Combat. IRP-B (laying standard No. 9). Designed for military personnel performing tasks in states of emergency, during armed conflicts, in peacekeeping operations and in the daily activities of troops, when preparing hot food from basic ration products is not possible. Energy value - 3590 kcal.
  • Mountain. RPG (laying norm No. 10). Designed to provide food to military personnel performing combat missions in high mountains.
  • IRP FSB. FSB special forces ration, sometimes a similar package is issued to special forces of other units. Of all domestic dry rations, this can be given the status of the best.
  • IRP FSB "Mountain". Used as the main dry solder in the FSB. New version, without flameless heater, and also without 5 chocolates included. Well-chosen nutritious meals.
  • Group dry ration - GRP-10. Designed for a day of food for 10 people, the package weighs 8 kg.
  • One-time food ration (standard No. 22). Instead of one of the meals in cases where it is not possible to prepare hot food three times a day.
  • Additional diet for donors (standard No. 21). Issued to military personnel, civilian personnel and other persons donating blood to military medical institutions.
  • The diet for divers is ARP (standard No. 18). Designed to provide military divers in cases where preparing hot food is not possible.
  • The diet for airplane and helicopter pilots is BRPESV (standard No. 17). Designed to feed flight personnel when landing at alternate jump airfields, where it is not possible to prepare hot food from flight ration products. It differs from combat and everyday rations in the presence of freeze-dried dairy products - processed cheese, sour cream and butter.
  • Packed rations for military personnel serving in conditions exposed to radiation or dealing with toxic chemicals.
  • The ration for airplane and helicopter crews at alternate airfields is RPESV (standard No. 12). The dry food is intended to feed pilots at jump airfields, where there is no possibility of getting hot food.

The most common of the above is dry ration IRP-P.

IRP consumers

IRP (individual food ration) is mainly issued to people who are in the military. Dry rations are also well suited for tourists, geologists, fishermen and hunters, and security officials. IRP can be issued to workers who work on a rotational basis, to the crew of aircraft that make long flights, submarines, ships, rescuers, and various humanitarian organizations. In general, this is an indispensable product for all those who need backup power that does not require special storage conditions, is lightweight and has a long service life.

Dry soldering requirements

Despite the fact that the composition of the army IRP in Russia and foreign countries is different, the requirements for its composition and packaging are the same:

  • The contents of products requiring special storage conditions are excluded.
  • Everything included in the kit must have a long shelf life.
  • Fresh products cannot be included in it.
  • All products should be easy to prepare or ready to eat.
  • Products should not contain allergic components, and should also be easily digestible, without causing stomach and intestinal upsets.
  • The packaging of dry rations must be made of such material that it does not get wet or become dirty.
  • The ration must be energetically valuable. The energy and nutritional value of IRP products should be the daily human requirement.

In addition to perishable products, it is prohibited to include alcohol, products with confectionery or cooking fat, cocoa, as well as those containing a large amount of spices, preservatives, and natural coffee in the IRP.

Packaging Requirements

Containers are subject to certain requirements that guarantee the safety of food products:

  • Moisture, dust and sunlight must penetrate into the contents of the bag.
  • Flexible packaging must be completely sealed.
  • The container material chosen is extremely durable so that it does not break under the pressure of other things during a hike.
  • Seams must withstand high mechanical loads. The most commonly used are soldered ziplocks.
  • The weight of the pack should be as low as possible to lighten the backpack.

Typically, three-seam soft polyethylene packaging is used as packaging material. Packaging for canned food is made using laminates with barrier properties or EVOH , which allow the products to be heated. When packaging seasonings, materials based on polypropylene and metallized foil are used, which provide protection from moisture, light, odor, and oxidation.

Best before date

Army dry rations provide a long shelf life for food. Food sets have nutritional properties that are carefully calculated in the laboratory and tested in action. All products undergo special processing and are suitable in any form (dry and heated).

The shelf life of components in the IRP is not so short. Some of the components can be stored for as long as desired: pea concentrate - unlimited, egg powder - unlimited, milk powder - unlimited, freeze-dried products - unlimited. IRP packages are marked with “date of completion” and “expiration date until:”.

The shelf life of any Individual Diet Ration (IRP) is 22 months.

This period is based on the calculation of the maximum shelf life of the “perishable” product itself, calculated in the laboratory - 2 years, minus the period for preparing components, packaging, packaging and transportation to the place of sale (storage) - 2 months.
