What is a Corporal pistol?

The head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, demonstrated the Corporal traumatic pistol on his Twitter page. Weapons are produced by one of the enterprises of the state corporation - the Zlatoust Machine-Building Plant.

@roscosmos enterprises produce not only rocket and space technology. We produce a wide range of energy equipment, medical equipment, light rail vehicles, elevator equipment and much more. Those who know how to create the most complex engineering... https://t.co/W7SQ4FQt2J

Description

The pistol is made from the same weapon steels as the PP-91 Kedr submachine gun. Automation is based on the use of recoil energy from a free shutter. The trigger mechanism is a hammer type, allowing firing only single shots. The flag-type fuse-translator is made on the right side of the receiver and has two positions (“O” - fire and “PR” - fuse).

The receiver is rectangular, stamped from sheet steel, and has a removable cover. The bore is smooth, chrome-plated, and is rigidly attached to the receiver, to which the pistol grip, magazine receiver and folding stock are attached.

The cartridges are supplied from a box magazine. The magazine release button is located on the left side of the magazine receiver.

To increase stability when shooting, the pistol is equipped with a shoulder rest that folds over the receiver.

Sights are open type (vertically adjustable front and rear sights).

For visual distinction from combat and service firearms, a false cleaning rod was introduced into the design of the PST, and the receiver cover and magazine must be painted gray from March 1, 2006.

Submachine guns.

(PP), PP is a weapon chambered for a pistol cartridge, capable of firing bursts (Fig. 17).

The basic operating principle of automatic PP is the blowback of the free shutter. Classically, a PP bolt is a massive part with a firing pin mounted on its front part and a return spring attached to it and to the rear surface of the receiver. To prepare the PP for firing, you need to insert the magazine and cock the bolt.

In this case, the bolt is retracted back, compressing the return spring, and stands on the rear delay - the sear. When you press the trigger, the trigger rod disengages the sear from the bolt. A powerful recoil spring pushes the bolt forward. The bolt sends the cartridge into the chamber and strikes the primer with its striker - a shot occurs.

After the shot, the pressure of the powder gases and the decompressed spring move the bolt back, the cartridge case is extracted, and, if the trigger is pressed, under the influence of the return spring the bolt moves forward again. The cycle repeats.

Before firing, the bolt is in the forward position and a trigger-type trigger is used (similar to machine guns and pistols that operate on the principle of free-breech recoil). This scheme of action is called working from the front sear. Almost all SMGs operate under a 9 mm caliber cartridge. SMGs chambered for 7.62 or .45 are very rare.

Recently, modifications of the Cypress SMG have appeared, chambered for the 9x17 cartridge and a 9-mm gas cartridge. It is necessary to highlight some Russian SMGs;

Options and modifications

  • PST "Kapral"
    - the first model, production discontinued
  • PST-C "Kapral"
    - second model, 2022 version
  • PDT-9T “Esaul”
is a civilian traumatic pistol, a self-loading version chambered for the 9 mm R.A. cartridge (produced since 2005). At first, a folding stock was not installed (therefore, the weight of the PDT-9T “Esaul” without a stock and cartridges is 1.15 kg), but later production of the PDT-9T “Esaul” with a folding shoulder rest began.
  • traumatic pistol "Esaul-2"
    - a fully automatic version of the PDT-9T "Esaul" chambered for 9 mm R.A. cartridge, a demonstration sample was made, but the weapon was not certified and was not mass-produced
  • PDT-13T “Esaul-3”
is a civilian traumatic pistol, a self-loading version chambered for the .45 Rubber cartridge with a 10-round magazine (developed in 2009). There is no folding stock, so the weight without cartridges is 1246 grams

PST "Corporal"

The PST "Kapral" service pistol is developed on the basis of the PP-91 "Kedr" submachine gun. The pistol has been produced since the mid-2000s by the Zlatoust Machine-Building Plant. It is purchased only by legal entities and is issued to employees of security companies and other organizations with special statutory tasks only for the duration of their service.

The development of the pistol proceeded in parallel with the creation of the PDT-9T “Esaul” model of civilian self-defense weapon. PST "Corporal" refers to service firearms with limited destruction and is designed for the use of 10x23T caliber cartridges with a rubber bullet. According to the law, muzzle energy when fired from this type of service weapon should not exceed 150 J.

The pistol is almost entirely made of steel, the handle is made of plastic. The receiver is made by stamping. The bore is chrome-plated, the barrel inserts are made of stainless steel. Automation works on the principle of using the recoil energy of a free shutter. Locking is carried out due to the inertia of the bolt and the force of the return spring. Shooting is carried out from a closed bolt. The cocking handle is located on the left side of the weapon and moves into a slot in the receiver cover.

The trigger mechanism is hammer-operated and allows only single fire. The trigger is designed as a single, easily removable module. Ammunition is fed from a detachable box magazine with a capacity of 10 rounds with a double-row arrangement (similar in size to the 20-round magazine of the Kedr submachine gun and the 10-round magazine of the PKSK pistol). The magazine eject button is located on the left side of the magazine receiver. Once all the ammunition in the magazine has been used up, the bolt locks into the slide stop.

The flag-type fuse-translator is made on the right side of the receiver and has two positions: “O” - fire and “PR” - fuse. When the fuse is on, it blocks the trigger and the bolt. The design of the weapon also provides for blocking from an accidental shot, for example, when the pistol is dropped.

Sights consist of a vertically and horizontally adjustable front sight and a reversible rear sight. The metal stock folds up and forward and, when folded, is located along the receiver cover. When the stock is folded, an open rear sight is used as a sighting device; when opened, the diopter sight automatically rotates.

The receiver cover and magazines are painted gray, which helps distinguish the PST from the combat PP-91 “Kedr” and the service PKSK.

Performance characteristics: Caliber: 10x23T Magazine capacity: 10 rounds Dimensions (LxHxW): 307(535)x182x54 mm Weight without cartridges: 1.3 kg

Operating countries

  • Kazakhstan - after the purchase of traumatic weapons was authorized on January 1, 2008, a certain number of PDT-9T “Esaul” traumatic pistols were sold in the country. On April 2, 2014, the Parliament of Kazakhstan established a ban on the possession and use of traumatic weapons by civilians. On October 29, 2014, a decision was made to buy back previously sold traumatic weapons (including the PDT-9T “Esaul”) from the owners. However, they are still permitted as service weapons for private security agencies.
  • Kyrgyzstan - at least one Kapral PST was sold to Kyrgyzstan
  • Russia - in July 2014, the Kapral PST was adopted by departmental security forces, and it is also approved for use by private security agencies. Pistols PDT-9T "Esaul" and PDT-13T "Esaul-3" are certified as civilian weapons
