Italian inertial semi-automatic shotgun Beretta ES 100

The Beretta gun company is one of the oldest gun manufacturers still in business. The manufacturer produces weapons for the military, law enforcement agencies, hunters and athletes. The worldwide popularity of Beretta brand weapons has come due to the reliability, high-quality assembly, shooting accuracy and convenience of various models.

One of the successful models can certainly be considered the Beretta 682 shotgun, which is highly appreciated by fans of sports shooting. The technological solutions presented in this model, coupled with the skill of the shooters, allow them to achieve excellent results in their field.

Inspired by the success of this line, the company introduces a new product. Created from the ground up, the Beretta 692 double-barrel sporting shotgun combines its excellent appearance with unique technical characteristics and ergonomics.

General description of Beretta 692

The Beretta is a unique over/under thanks to its elegance and technology, which comes in the form of two series, 692 Sporting Black and 692 X-Trap. The changed design of the new product will hint that the gun belongs to the premium class. The new Beret has a large forged barrel, the receiver of which is covered with black and gold engraving. The locking key is now equipped with an ergonomic polymer pad. Smooth curves appeared on the receiver, which made the Beretta very comfortable. Such a weapon is pleasant to hold in your hands.

The Beretta 692 Sporting Series features a 3-inch chamber (7.62), a variety of barrel lengths (71.12, 76.2 and 81.28), and features interchangeable air chokes. The Beretta 692 X-Trap series features a 2-3/4-inch chamber (6.98), a variety of barrel lengths (76.2 and 81.28), and features fixed air chokes. The choke detents affected the ballistics of the new gun.

To assist shooters, the Beretta 692 is equipped with B-Fast (Beretta Fast Adjustment System Technology) personal adjustment systems.

The B-Fast range of customization features includes a stock comb adjustment system, replacing the Memory System found on previous models. It has become stronger and more reliable due to the use of steel and aluminum elements in the structure. At the same time, the new adjustment system has become easier to use and has more options for settings, and special polymer notches in different colors make it easier to adjust the desired position of the butt comb.

The B-Fast adjustment complex includes the ability to individually adjust the balance of the gun by placing special inserts inside the butt. This system is very effective as each insert weighs only 20g, but by placing them away from the breech, each additional insert has maximum impact on the balance of the gun. The installation process is very simple and requires a minimum of tools.

Compared to its predecessor, the B-Fast Beretta 692 provides expanded and easy-to-setup functionality. The buttstock is equipped with special markings made of polymer materials, which allow the shooter to remember the most comfortable position of the buttstock.

The shooter can personally adjust the balance using special weights inside the gun. The weight of such a load is 20 g, but it significantly affects the balance of the gun. Installing the weight is simple and does not take much time.

The Beretta X-Trap series has the ability to adjust the rear sight included in the B-Fast. The adjustment element is located on the front sight, which was included in the B-Fast system.

general description

The Beretta ES 100 hunting rifle, like all Beretta smoothbore weapons, is produced at the company's main plant in the Italian city of Brescia. The barrel of the weapon is made from a light alloy of chromium, nickel and molybdenum, and then chrome plated. The bolt box, the heart of any small arms, is also made from the same alloy.

The manufacturer provides 4 barrel options of different lengths - 610, 660, 710, 760 mm. The barrel is equipped with replaceable Mobil-Choke choke constrictions, intended also for shooting steel shot. When shooting with steel shot, it is recommended to use no more than ½ choke constriction; you should use only chokes marked SP (Steel-Proof). Shooting without replaceable chokes is strictly prohibited.

Barrels for Beretta ES 100 shotguns are made from a light alloy of nickel, chromium and molybdenum; the bores are chrome-plated. The receiver of this model is also made of alloy. The design of the gun includes a push-button safety device located on the rear of the trigger guard. There is a ventilated strip for mounting the collimator.

The Beretta ES 100 semi-automatic is fired with 12-gauge cartridges. The under-barrel magazine holds 4 cartridges with a case length of 70 mm or 3 cartridges with a case length of 76 mm; the design of the magazine allows the spring to be cleaned and lubricated without disassembly.

It is allowed to weigh cartridges from 32 to 57 grams, but lightweight cartridges with a weight of 32 g are prohibited.

The Beretta ES 100 shotgun is reloaded using inertia.

Design features

Technical innovations used in the Beretta 692 shotgun are aimed at improving shooting accuracy and ease of handling. These include: STEELLIUM PLUS barrel drilling technology, increasing the width of the block and a set of individual B-Fast settings.

The internal geometry of the barrel consists of three sections: the cylindrical chamber itself, the transition cone, and again the cylindrical part. The length of the cone affects the effective operation of the barrel and its ballistic characteristics: the sharpness of the strike, the uniform distribution of the scree, the degree of deformation of the shot and the comfort during the shot (recoil impulse and barrel toss).

Thanks to the elongated transition cone in the new model, compared to models 686, 682 and even DT 10, better pressure distribution in the barrel is achieved, which leads to smoother charge acceleration dynamics. Due to this, the behavior of the barrel during a shot and the nature of the movement of the scree from the chamber to the muzzle are optimized, which leads to better shooting performance and an increased likelihood of hitting the target, as well as softer recoil, minimal barrel toss and quick aiming at the next target.

In sporting shotguns, it is especially important that the maximum weight is concentrated in the receiver area, which provides maximum stability before and after each shot. The width of the shoe can greatly improve the stability and handling of the gun, so the new Beretta 692 has a wider shoe than the 682 and DT 10, measuring 41.6mm wide. Thanks to the improved balance, the gun has a more comfortable throw and faster aiming at the target.

Most Beretta sporting shotguns produced using Steelium technology have a 65 mm taper length, with a barrel length of 76 cm. The Beretta 692 sideflint has a 360 mm taper length, which is many times longer than its predecessor.

When shooting the gun, it is worth noting that the Beretta exhibits excellent grip and good balance.

The benefits of the Beretta 692 are the added and improved characteristics of the weapon. The efficiency of the barrel and ballistics depend on the length of the cone. Smooth transitions from wide to narrow create pressure dynamics inside the barrel. Thanks to it, recoil during a shot is optimized. Due to the modification of the chokes, good accuracy of fire was achieved. Thanks to the smooth recoil of the gun and minimal muzzle bounce, the likelihood of successfully hitting the target increases.

The maximum weight of the Beretta 692 is concentrated in the receiver area, and its width is 41.6 mm. This weight distribution ensures stability before and after the shot. The width of the block increases the stability and ease of handling the gun in your hands. All these qualities ensure the fastest possible launch and aiming at the target. During production, serial guns are adjusted manually at certain stages. By refining the chokes, manufacturers increase ballistic performance.

Design Features

The Beretta ES 100 action consists of five parts:

  1. shutter frame;
  2. inertial spring;
  3. combat guise;
  4. locking wedge;
  5. lever.

The barrel bore is locked with a special wedge, which rests against the receiver cover when moving. Unlike Benelli shotguns, the Beretta ES 100's combat face is not rotatable. There are also no lugs for attaching the cylinder to the barrel. The gun barrel is attached to the receiver cover, made of steel. The use of such technology increases the impact, while allowing you to maintain a stable rollback speed.

To attach the trigger mechanism (trigger mechanism) to the Beretta, a hollow tube made of metal is used. If this part is removed repeatedly, there is a risk of it flaring, which can cause problems during its installation.

When disassembling the gun, the remaining parts of the gun connected to it are separated from the receiver. Thus, the operation of the weapon is simplified, since the trigger mechanism (trigger mechanism) does not need to be removed for inspection and lubrication.

The Beretta EC 100 semi-automatic magazine is non-separable, despite the fact that it can be cleaned and lubricated. The return spring is located in the butt of the weapon, which provides it with the following advantages over its competitors:

  • Improved weight distribution.
  • Lightening the spring itself, this same property implies the need to more carefully calibrate the sleeves.

It should also be noted that the Beretta ES 100 magazine does not have a magazine release. Thus, unloading the gun magazine is possible only with the help of a cartridge limiter, with which the feeder latch is combined. The latch moves in both the transverse and longitudinal planes. If a misfire occurs, chambering the next cartridge will be difficult, and you will have to remove the misfired cartridge manually

The Beretta ES 100 shotgun is equipped with a tubular magazine. The magazine holds 4 cartridges with a sleeve size of 70 mm or 3 cartridges of 76 mm, and the cartridges are fed exactly in the order in which they are placed in the magazine. If a larger sleeve is used, the magazine capacity is reduced by one cartridge.

It should also be noted that testing of gun automatics can only be done using dummy cartridges. The use of live ammunition during such an operation is unacceptable.

The design of the under-barrel magazine of the Beretta ES 100 shotgun completely copies the design of the magazine of such Benelli semi-automatic models as Raffaello, Moncino, Centro, Crio. By the way, you can also read about the Benelli Raffaello inertia on our website.

Advantages and disadvantages

Berreta 692 has the following advantages:

  • High quality parts and assembly.
  • Good grip and balance.
  • Excellent shooting accuracy.
  • Smooth and soft feedback.
  • Strict classic design.

The main disadvantages of Berreta 692:

  • Limited resource of some parts.
  • High cost of repairs.
  • High price on the market.

The Beretta 692 double-barreled shotgun requires careful care, because the cost of replacing parts in the event of a breakdown, as well as the cost of the gun itself, can be quite high. The disadvantage of the Beretta 692 is the limited life of some parts. In the absence of proper care, parts quickly exhaust their service life and fail. If the lower barrel ejector lock is broken, then a long wait can be added to the high cost of repairs. Original serial parts must go a long way before entering Russian territory. It is necessary to change the ejector spring in a timely manner, otherwise other parts of the gun will be damaged.

With a price tag of around $5,000, the Beretta 692 12-gauge double-barreled shotgun probably won't be a common sight in the gun space, although there's no doubting the gun's hunting capabilities. While five thousand dollars isn't a sum many people would part with easily, Beretta is betting that its Model 692 sporting shotguns will compete with other more expensive double-barreled shotguns.

As a result of the accumulation of enormous production experience, as well as the well-deserved success of previous series, the company's specialists created the unique Beretta 692 model. Beretta embodies a combination of excellent technical characteristics, amazing ease of use and attractive design solutions. The model is not without its shortcomings, but with the right approach, they can be avoided.
