Features of the armored vehicle
An unusual design solution of the “VV” is a side spare wheel with a winch and a rear ladder that can be folded out manually using a pneumatic cylinder. The engine and gearbox are covered with steel protection, which has shown its effectiveness during the use of armored Urals in Afghanistan and Chechnya.
The decorative hood of the car is made of fiberglass and limits the view. The engine is covered with bolted armor panels. The windshield weighs 350 kilograms, making it impossible to replace it in the field.
Main base chassis Ural 4320
Chassis is a complete vehicle structure that connects the transmission, chassis and control mechanisms. Taking into account the length of the frame, load capacity and other parameters, there are many modifications of bases for Ural-4320 trucks. The main ones are:
- 4320-ХХХХ-ХХ . Basic chassis with an all-metal cab, three axles and a 6x6 formula. Load capacity up to 12 tons.
- 4320-19ХХ-ХХ . A long frame of increased rigidity with a 6x6 formula, designed to transport cargo up to 12 tons.
- 43203-ХХХХ-ХХ . Standard frame with three axles, reinforced suspension at the front. Load capacity up to 7–9 tons.
- 43204-ХХХХ-ХХ . Three-axle tractor for transporting pipes, logs, beams, etc. Load capacity up to 12-13 tons.
- 43206-ХХХХ-ХХ . All-wheel drive base with two axles and 4x4 wheel arrangement.
- 5557 (55571)-ХХХХ-ХХ . Reinforced frame for the production of special equipment: tanks, drilling rigs, manipulators, etc. Load capacity up to 12–13 tons.
Depending on the cab version, the following Ural-4320 chassis are distinguished:
- 4320Х or 5557Х-ХХХХ-41(41) . Standard hood-type cab made of steel alloy with two doors. Capacity 3 people. 41 - double cabin with four doors for 6 people.
- 4320Х or 5557Х-ХХХХ-42(44) . All-metal hood-type cabin with two doors for 3 people and a berth. Series 44 - new design
- 4320Х or 5557Х-ХХХХ-48(58 or 59) . Cabover cab of increased volume and increased comfort with a composite tail. The driver's seat is on springs.
- 4320Х or 5557Х-ХХХХ-70(71, 72, 73, 74 or 75) . Modular hood-type cabin “Ural Next” with increased comfort for three people.
Armored truck "Federal-M"
The modernized chassis of the highly reliable Ural-4320 vehicle and one of its modifications, the Ural-55571, served as the basis for the creation of a new protected vehicle, the Federal-M. Specialists from the Moscow enterprise Institute of Special Equipment conducted tests that confirmed the effectiveness of the protection and the declared technical characteristics of the vehicle.
"Federal-M" is designed to transport personnel with a high level of protection against small arms and explosive devices on any type of road.
Model history
Prototype
The first prototypes of the future popular truck were shown in 1958 at the May Day demonstration in Moscow. Small-scale mass production of cars with 180 hp gasoline engines. ZIL brand began in 1960 with the Ural-375 marking. In order to improve driving characteristics during the first modernization after 5 years of successful operation, instead of an asymmetrical locking center differential, which made it possible to connect the front axle, the new version was equipped with all-wheel drive.
Along with numerous advantages, the main disadvantages of the first generations were associated with the gasoline engine, which consumed too much fuel - 90 l/100 km. The problem of high consumption was solved with the advent of a diesel unit from the Yaroslavl plant. However, its reliability parameters and service life left much to be desired. Therefore, the first generation of diesel vehicles was equipped with KamAZ-740 engines.
First generation
12 years after the start of serial production of the Ural-375, the first sample of an updated truck with the index 4320 was designed. It was equipped with a 180 hp diesel engine. and carried 5.5 tons of cargo. After three years of testing, it was decided to mass produce trucks of four modifications:
- 4320 — onboard vehicles with an all-metal cabin and a cargo platform with a lifting capacity of 5.5 tons.
- 43201 — lightweight trucks with a carrying capacity of up to 5.0 tons.
- 4420— truck tractors with all-metal cabs.
- 44201 — truck tractors for active 10x10 road trains.
In 1985, the number of models with diesel engines reached the share of gasoline modifications. The following year, the total number of popular machines exceeded 1 million products.
Becoming
In 1988 , a lightweight version of the Ural-4320-01 appeared with a modernized steel alloy platform without wheel arches, which reduced the overall weight of the vehicle. The body with a flat bottom was equipped with folding benches, one opening side and an awning stretched over removable arches.
Since 1993 , instead of the KamAZ-740 diesel unit, 11.5-liter YaMZ-236 engines (power 180 hp) began to be installed. Such modifications received the index 4320-10. A year later, the engine line was supplemented by the YaMZ-238M (240 hp) with a volume of 14.86 liters. The hood of the new models with index 4320-30 had to be pushed forward. Trucks that were intended for peaceful purposes began to be produced with a wide front bumper in which headlights were mounted.
In 1996 , in addition to the three-axle version, a lightweight 4x4 truck with a load capacity of 4.2 tons appeared. With the exception of the removal of one axle, the design remained completely identical. Progressive version index 43206.
Maturity
Ural 4320 1
Since 2009 , trucks of the 4320 family began to be equipped with Euro-4 YaMZ-536 or YaMZ-6565 units from the Yaroslavl plant. Regardless of the modification of the power unit, all cars are produced with extended hoods. Along with standard all-metal cains, some versions were equipped with comfortable cabover units licensed by Iveco, made from a combination of steel and high-strength fiberglass.
In 2014 , the legendary 4320 series underwent another modernization, which ensured increased reliability and service life. While maintaining the basic layout and cabin, the vehicles of the updated family received the Ural-M designation. A year later, the new generation of trucks intended for the civilian market was replenished with more modern components and comfortable modular cabs of the Ural-Next version.
