Domestic Moran rifle - solidity, range, accuracy

Main characteristics

This rifle is available in two caliber variations - 5.5 or 6.35 mm (the second option is for EU countries). Accordingly, they differ in length (1.07 or 1.2 m) and weight (4.2 and 4.8 kg). The length of the barrel is 0.476 or 0.59 m. The stock is made of painted beech, does not slip in the hands, and is comfortable to grip for right-handed and left-handed people. The butt cheek is adjustable vertically using a retractable stop in its lower part. The butt plate is aluminum, with anti-slip grooves. To dampen the air flow, a sound moderator is placed on the barrel in front.

The device is a classic bolt-action device. A cylindrical aluminum alloy reservoir into which air is pumped is attached to the stock with four screws. Its volume is 289 or 388 cubic centimeters. The pressure in it can reach 110-210 atmospheres. To control the pressure, a pressure gauge is installed in the front part of the tank, and for uniform air supply when firing, it has a reducer inside. The bullet flies with a primary speed of 315 meters per second. For caliber 5.5, the best type of bullet is JSB heavy 5.52, for 6.35 - JSB King.

Presentation and shooting of the Moran air rifle on video:

The trigger-type trigger can be easily separated if necessary; it is located in a separate shell made by milling. The falling sear system allows for precise adjustment. Thanks to this, the rifle works well at particularly long distances. It is single-shot; to fire a shot you need to place a bullet on the tray and then cock the ramming bolt. It is similar in functionality and appearance to a firearm bolt. There are no built-in sighting devices. If necessary, an optical sight with a magnification of at least 10 can be attached to the Weaver rail. There is also an eleven-millimeter dovetail mount.

In online stores, such a device costs about 65 thousand rubles.

Characteristics

When considering the characteristics of the Edgun Matador R5M series rifle, it is worth remembering that the manufacturer offers a choice of three options for weapon calibers, on which many parameters depend, including the size of the tank, the length of the rifle barrel, and the number of shots fired from one refill. And although in each specific case a lot depends on the quality of the ammunition, even these averaged data are seriously impressive.

Scheme of operation of the trigger mechanism

In the cocked state, the hammer, through the spring, presses with its protrusion on the mating part of the sear, trying to move it in the direction of clockwise movement. Under this pressure, the intermediate and upper sear become jammed. When the shooter begins to pull the trigger, the screw farthest from the axis of the trigger mechanism causes the sear to turn. It touches the screw closest to the SC axis, and a slight squeeze of the trigger is enough for the upper sear to begin to rotate.

The trigger and cocking spring ensure rotation of the sear, after which it disengages from the hammer. It quickly moves forward in the direction of the valve stem. At this time, the trigger is still pressed. By releasing it, the shooter leaves the intermediate sear in the same state. After all, it will be held by the upper sear until the bolt is cocked. In this case, the trigger, moving back, will catch on the protrusion of the upper sear and turn it counterclockwise. Having turned to a certain angle, it appears above the lower sear, which also manages to turn.

When the bolt is released and moves forward, the hammer, drawn by the spring, rotates in a clockwise direction. Then it reaches the tendril of the upper sear, resting against it and engaging with it. After this, the weapon is completely ready to fire.

German Diana rifles are especially popular. We invite you to familiarize yourself with the price of the Diana 54 air rifle, evaluate the characteristics and watch a video review. The cheaper and lighter air rifle Smersh R4 is presented here. Characteristics and features of this model, as well as its price indicators.

Review of the Diana rifle range, description of the technical characteristics of the weapon

Air rifles presented by the German company Diana are distinguished by their shooting accuracy and operational reliability.
The high strength of the product allows the rifle to be used for various purposes. Most often, such weapons are used during target shooting. It should be noted that Diana company specializes not only in the production of air guns. The company also produces various accessories, through the use of which you can make the operation of the rifle as comfortable as possible.

Disassembling and assembling "Morana"

The device can be disassembled similarly to its closest relative, the Matador rifle from the same company. For partial disassembly:

  • Remove the sight (if equipped);
  • Having unscrewed the four screws (secret), remove the Weaver bar;
  • then the stock is removed;
  • unscrew the two screws located at the back of the receiver, and loosen its front screws, slightly releasing the bypass mode;
  • move the receiver back and carefully pull it out;
  • To assemble, repeat everything in reverse order.

We repair the rifle and replace parts

Sometimes it is necessary to replace the rubber on the rammer - for this you need to disassemble the pneumatic according to the description presented above. Often, minor repairs come down to replacing fasteners - screws and bolts. It is better to entrust major repairs to a specialist.

So, one of the weak points of this weapon is the somewhat flimsy bolt that holds the rammer. Because of this, after successful and exciting shooting at a shooting range, the owners are surprised to notice that the rammer takes off, rushing after the bullets. To prevent this from happening, you should not jerk the bolt sharply when cocking, making sure to close it. You also need to pay special attention if the closing force has increased. Perhaps the bolt has already begun to unscrew. If so, polish its head and groove.

You can put the fasteners on Locklight - it will be more reliable.

If the bolt is cut or bent, carefully unscrew it with a needle (heat the part with the thread on a gas burner). Another option is to drill out the bolt with a two-millimeter drill with left-hand rotation.

Where is the Morana air rifle used?

Appearance of the Moran rifle

The manufacturer initially released this weapon for shooting at particularly long distances. Therefore, it is good to use it for training, practicing accuracy at a distance of 100 or 150 meters. However, if desired, the rifle can perform well in the shooting range, and at a twenty-five-meter distance. According to the owners' reviews, it invariably shows excellent accuracy.

In addition, “Morana” can also be used by hunters, for example, for blind hunting or varmint. The increased firing range will prevent you from spooking your prey. In other words, this is an excellent option for accurate and long-range shooting from a convenient ambush at a not very fast target.

Advantages and disadvantages

Considering the Edgun Matador R5 models of all presented calibers, it is worth noting that the design of the rifle in the entire line has similar positive aspects and almost the same disadvantages. On the one hand, this speaks of a high production culture and constant work to improve the quality of weapons. On the other hand, the universality of solutions to problems for the 4.5 mm caliber and for the 6.5 mm caliber indicates that the solutions are formulaic.

AdvantagesFlaws
A large number of shots that can be fired from one tank fillA large tank volume and high shot power are not the key to accuracy and accuracy when shooting. The rifle is unlikely to be suitable for participation in serious competitions. This is not a precision shooting weapon.
Ergonomic compact size of standard versions, convenient line of elongated models for large shooters.The lack of standard sighting devices requires the purchase of at least good optics, which should be taken into account when purchasing a rifle.
The weapon does not require registration, although it is one of the most powerful rifles on the market.Despite the fact that this specimen does not belong to a weapon that requires registration, the price of 1000-1500 US dollars is quite comparable to the price of a full-fledged hunting rifled firearm.
The weapon has a quiet shot and no recoil - an excellent option for hunting birds and small animals.PSP rifles have always had high requirements for air quality when loading. This is especially important when shooting in low temperature conditions. The rifle itself is very sensitive to temperature changes.

Among other things, it is worth noting such a detail as the barrel of the weapon.

Today, rifles are equipped with barrels from Lothar Walher (Germany), a world-famous manufacturer of blanks for firearms and pneumatic weapon barrels, and the Russian Alpha-Prestige, known for its developments for sniper weapons and rifles for high-precision sports shooting.

Upgrade

Since this model has many interchangeable parts with the Matador, some craftsmen convert it into a multi-charger. In addition, the trigger allows the use of a larger caliber (up to 9 mm), so it is quite possible to replace the barrel with a thicker one. To reduce weight, you can make a lighter stock (for example, from a composite).

As for multi-charging: the manufacturer released the first batch of Morana multi-charging rifles with a caliber of 5.5, which few people can boast of owning yet. A new device with a drum for 10 bullets was presented at an exhibition in Germany.

Advantages and disadvantages
