Pneumatic revolvers Gletcher SW B25 and SW B4

For many decades, a revolver as a handgun has been considered a partly outdated system, inferior to self-loading pistols in terms of magazine capacity (drum), reload speed, and dimensions. But, despite all the advantages of more modern pistols, the revolver refuses to leave the stage, just as, say, a classic mechanical wristwatch does not leave the stage - if only simply because it is a classic.

The Gletcher SW B25 and SW B4 pneumatic revolvers are made in the image and likeness of the most classic Smith & Wesson brand revolvers. They are identical in design and differ only in the length of the trunks and elements of external decoration.

In the case of the more compact Gletcher SW B25 revolver, the prototype was apparently the Smith & Wesson Model 19 “Combat Magnum” .357 Magnum revolver with a 2.5-inch (76mm) barrel. This is evidenced by the characteristic barrel with a low-profile, non-ventilated frame and a massive case for the extractor axis under the barrel, slightly short of the muzzle. True, the dimensions of the frame, especially in its rear part, are more consistent with large N-frame revolvers (S&W Model 27 for example), which is explained by the need to place a pneumatic valve there. In addition to its characteristic silhouette, the Gletcher SW B25 revolver borrowed the cylinder opening mechanism and the design of the adjustable sight from its combat prototype. If we talk about the Gletcher SW B4 model, which has a longer barrel - 4 inches (10 cm), then it is more difficult to find an exact prototype due to the fact that Smith & Wesson did not practice installing a ventilated strap above the barrel on its revolvers. This design solution was the prerogative of Colt, giving its Python and Diamondback revolvers a characteristic, easily recognizable image. Nevertheless, in reality there were revolvers that had a combined Smithwesson-Colt silhouette, characteristic of the Gletcher SW B4 model. These revolvers were the product of the skilled hands of American gunsmiths who attempted to create the “ideal target revolver” by combining a high-quality Colt Python barrel and a frame with a perfectly tuned Smith & Wesson trigger in one sample. In American weapons literature, such combination revolvers were given the nickname Smolt, and unlike many other “Frankenstein” systems, such revolvers often showed very high results in shooting accuracy.

Returning to the Gletcher pneumatic revolvers, first of all, it is worth noting the fairly high authenticity of the appearance and mechanisms, which is explained by the manufacture of the main parts from metal and the selected loading scheme using false cartridges. In this case, the revolver has a traditional drum with 6 chambers, into which plastic false cartridges are placed, which have a through channel from the bottom of the cartridge case to the bullet. The bullet itself is made of elastic plastic, and the channel in its head has special annular protrusions on the inner surface, allowing you to reliably hold a spherical 4.5mm bullet inside the false cartridge. False cartridges filled with bullets are loaded in the most authentic way into the folding drum of the revolver one at a time or using the included loading accelerator (speedloader).

The drum latch follows the design of the classic Smith & Wesson system - to unlock the drum, it must be pushed forward, and then the drum can be tilted to the left. Unlike "real" Smith & Wesson revolvers, the extractor rod does not have a spring-loaded detent at the front, under the barrel, but this does not impair the alignment of the cylinder and the barrel, as will be discussed below.

Another difference from the prototype is that the drum latch can move from its constant position not only forward, but also backward. In the rear position, it serves as a manual safety, blocking cocking and release. The position of the latch is marked on the frame with raised inscriptions that do not interfere with the appearance of the weapon.

The trigger mechanism of Gletcher revolvers is self-cocking (double action), with a classic open hammer. The design of the trigger mechanism provides an automatic fuse, which has the form of a transfer bar or, in this case, a transverse pin.

In its normal state, this pin is located below the pneumatic valve stem, and the trigger head is shaped in such a way that the released trigger rests against the frame without touching the stem. However, when you press the trigger, the pin automatically rises several millimeters, placing itself between the trigger head and the valve stem, so that when the trigger is pulled, the trigger first hits the pin and through it the valve stem, and only then rests against the frame. This solution reliably protects against accidental shots when the weapon is dropped or the trigger is hit. The trigger force in self-cocking mode is relatively small, the descent is quite smooth. When the trigger is pre-cocked, the trigger is short and somewhat easier, although it cannot be called “match” at all.

The source of energy for shooting is standard 12-gram carbon dioxide cylinders placed in the handle of the weapon. To charge, the cheeks of the handle as an assembly with its back part are moved back, opening the socket for the cylinder in the frame. The clamping screw in its normal position is completely hidden under the sliding cheeks, which certainly improves the appearance of the weapon. After moving back, the cheeks do not separate from the revolver, thereby eliminating the risk of dropping them at your feet or looking for a place for them while reloading. The capacity of one cylinder at room temperature is enough for 60-70 shots.

The problem of drum obturation was solved in an original way. At the junction of the bottom of the weapon frame with the sleeve located opposite the barrel, an elastic gasket is installed at the outlet of the pneumatic valve, pressing the sleeve against the drum and preventing carbon dioxide from breaking out. The obturation between the barrel and the head of the false cartridge is solved due to the fact that the insert barrel, hidden in the body of the weapon, is spring-loaded, and its cone-shaped breech fits into the reciprocal recesses in the front part of the drum chambers, fitting tightly to the head of the false cartridge. Such decisions, of course, negatively affect the smoothness of rotation of the drum and the trigger force when firing by self-cocking, but not so much that this could be written down as a minus for this model. But in addition to good obturation, this solution ensures automatic stable alignment of the channel in the false cartridge with the barrel bore, which has a positive effect on shooting accuracy.

Removing false cartridges is quite authentic - after releasing the drum latch and tilting the drum to the left, the shooter presses the extractor rod, and the extractor sprocket removes all six “cartridges” from the drum at once. It is recommended to keep in mind that the false cartridges enter the drum freely, without tension, and pressing the extractor rod too vigorously can cause the “cartridges” to fly out of the drum onto the floor. In principle, false cartridges can fall out of the drum under their own weight, which should also be kept in mind when reloading.

Speaking about false cartridges, it should be noted that their design looks quite simple and durable, but only 6 cartridges are included with the revolver. Shooting without these false cartridges from a revolver is impossible, so we would advise you to immediately purchase additional ammunition, fortunately distributors bring them. In addition to reducing the risk of reducing the functionality of your “favorite toy” due to the loss of a false cartridge, the presence of several rounds of ammunition can make training and recreational shooting from Gletcher revolvers as realistic as possible (as far as possible with air guns), most importantly, when reloading quickly, throwing the “spent cartridges” on the floor or on the ground, do not trample them underfoot. For even greater realism, we can recommend using cartridge belts - fortunately, the balls in the equipped false cartridges are held very tightly.

The sights of the Gletcher SW B25 and SW B4 revolvers, as already mentioned, are adjustable and include a fixed front sight on the barrel and a rear sight on the frame that is adjustable in two planes. The design of the adjustable rear sight is quite authentic; two screws are used to adjust the weapon to normal combat - on the top (for introducing vertical corrections) and on the right (for introducing horizontal corrections).

If we talk about shooting from Gletcher revolvers, we were pleased with the results. The process of loading false cartridges with spherical bullets (regular copper-plated steel balls of 4.5 mm caliber were used) is quite simple, the main thing is to seat the ball in the barrel of the false cartridge until a characteristic click is heard, meaning the ball is firmly fixed. The process of loading the drum with “cartridges” is completely identical to that of combat models, the only thing is that we would not recommend closing the drum by sharply shaking the entire weapon from left to right, as they like to do in Hollywood films. With such an energetic movement, the false cartridges sitting loosely in the chambers can move back a little, and the drum will not close, and the mechanism for folding the drum with unnecessary loads should not be loosened (this, by the way, also applies to “real” revolvers).

We did not expect any fantastic accuracy and accuracy of fire from a pneumatic weapon with a smooth barrel and spherical bullets, but both models of Gletcher revolvers pleasantly surprised us in this sense: from a distance of 7 meters when shooting by self-cocking, all 6 hits stably fit into a circle with a diameter of 5 cm, and in particularly successful series, most of the holes were in contact with the edges. After a little practice and zeroing in the weapon when shooting with the hammer pre-cocked, you will be able to knock down a two-ruble coin with the first shot at 5-7 meters. As already mentioned, a standard 12g CO2 cylinder is enough for about 60-70 shots.

Description of the air pistol Gletcher SW B25 (4.5 mm)

A revolver based on the famous Smith and Wesson model.
This modification is made in pneumatic version. The design meets all modern quality standards. The Gletcher SW B25 pistol is compact and reliable. The manufacturer took care of the appearance of this model, making the revolver body out of metal. The metal copes well with external mechanical influences and ensures the durability of the gun.

At the same time, the price of the Gletcher SV B25 air pistol is fully justified by its functionality and is guaranteed for 18 months.

The shot energy of this model is provided by a gas cylinder system based on a 12 gram metal can.

Carbon dioxide under high pressure allows the projectile to accelerate at the exit from the barrel to 120 m/s, which is a pretty good result for a weapon of this class.

At the same time, the capacity of one can is enough to fire 70-80 shots. Economical gas consumption is ensured by the thoughtful design of the Gletscher SV B25 revolver.

With a total length of the Gletcher SW B25 pneumatic gun equal to 215 mm, the weight of the product is 800 grams. Almost all structural elements are made of metal, except for the lining on the revolver handle.

It is worth noting that, due to the key impact on a comfortable grip, the handle is made of textured polymer, which has an ergonomic shape.

An open-type sighting device in the form of a front sight and a non-adjustable rear sight, standardly offered by the manufacturer, can be replaced with a laser target. The manufacturer accommodated tuning enthusiasts and equipped the Gletcher SV B25 revolver with a Weaver mounting plate.

The drum of the pneumatic Gletcher SW B25, which acts as a magazine, provides for the placement of 6 ammunition, which are standard lead or steel BB balls with a diameter of 4.5 mm.

Considering the efficiency of the revolver's pneumatic system, you can fire about 75 shots with one can.

The model is highly effective at short distances; the ergonomics of the pistol fully justify the cost of the revolver.

The safety is fully implemented, so when the lever is moved to the active position, the cocking mechanism is blocked, thereby eliminating the risk of an accidental shot.

The Gletcher SV B25 pistol is perfectly designed, the revolver design copes well with long-term work on the target.

If you are a fan of American classics, then you should definitely buy the Gletcher SW B25 air pistol.
