Sniper rifle ASVK Kord caliber 12.7 mm. Device

ASVK (“large-caliber army sniper rifle”; GRAU Index - 6B7, with optical and night sights - 6S8, 6S8-1) is a Russian large-caliber sniper rifle, created in 2004 by a team of designers at the V. A. Degtyarev plant in Kovrov on based on the KSVK rifles (“Kovrov large-caliber sniper rifle”) and SVN-98 (“Negrulenko sniper rifle”).

large-caliber sniper rifle ASVK "Kord" 6B7 12.7 mm (Russia)

The large-caliber sniper rifle ASVK "Kord" (Army Sniper Rifle Large-caliber) was developed and mass-produced by the Degtyarev Plant (ZID), located in Kovrov, Russia, based on the earlier SVN-98 rifle. The rifle is designed to destroy enemy unarmored and lightly armored vehicles and equipment at ranges of up to 1000 meters, as well as enemy personnel at ranges of up to 1500 meters. The rifle can be used both with 12.7mm caliber machine-gun cartridges (for shooting at vehicles), and with specially designed 12.7SN / 7N34 sniper cartridges, with which the ASVK rifle has an accuracy of about 4 cm at 100 meters (1.5 MOA). ASVK rifles were successfully used in the anti-terrorist campaign in Chechnya and are in service with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Russian Army. The GRAU index for the ASVK rifle is 6B7, the index of the sniper complex consisting of a rifle, an optical sight 1P71 and a night sight 1PN111 is 6S8.

large-caliber sniper rifle 6B7 ASVK "Kord", first production version

During serial production, a modified version of the ASVK-M was created on the basis of the rifle, which received the GRAU 6V7M index. The 6V7M ASVK-M large-caliber sniper rifle differs from the basic version by an adjustable buttplate and cheekpiece, a modified receiver with a Picatinny-type rail mounted on top for attaching day and nose sights. The rifle barrel has longitudinal valleys for easier and more efficient cooling when shooting.

As a small historical fact, it can be noted that in 2015 in Ukraine he announced the SGM-12.7 sniper rifle, which is exactly like the ASVK rifle. However, after the first high-profile reports, no further information about the serial production of this copy appeared.

The ASVK "Kord" large-caliber sniper rifle is a non-self-loading large-caliber repeating weapon configured in a bullpup configuration. The barrel is locked by a longitudinally sliding rotary bolt, while the bolt is rotated with the rectilinear movement of the cocking handle, due to a figured cutout in the shank of the bolt. For ease of reloading, the cocking handle is moved forward and connected to the bolt frame by a long rod. The cartridges are fed from a detachable 5-round box magazine. The ASVK/6V7 rifle is equipped with a standard side rail for mounting sights and can be equipped with various day and night sights; the ASVK-M/6V7M variant has a Picatinny rail on the top of the receiver. In addition, the rifle has folding iron sights as a backup. Folding bipods are located under the barrel on a special bracket, and a powerful muzzle brake-compensator is located on the barrel. The buttstock is equipped with a cheek pad and a rubber butt pad-shock absorber.

Story

Work on the creation of a large-caliber sniper rifle with a bullpup mechanism layout at the V. A. Degtyarev plant in Kovrov began in 1996. The team of designers working on a fundamentally new type of weapon was headed by Vyacheslav Negrulenko. Just two years later, in 1998, a rifle was created, called SVN-98, which went into the first experimental series. On the basis of the SVN-98, the same team of designers, in 2000, developed the KSVK rifle in the same way as its predecessor, which went into experimental production. After careful testing and experimental operation in the active forces, in 2004, the same authors created an even more advanced rifle, which was called ASVK (“large-caliber army sniper rifle”). It was this type of weapon that, from 2004 to the present, was put into large-scale production.

Adoption

In 2013, the ASVK large-caliber sniper rifle was adopted by the armed forces of the Russian Federation under the name “12.7 mm 6C8 sniper complex.”

ASVK Kord-M 6V7M - modernized large-caliber sniper rifle

Design

Technically, it is a 5-round bolt-action rifle, configured according to a bullpup design (this arrangement made it possible to reduce the total length of the weapon to 1420 mm while maintaining a significant barrel length of 1000 mm).

For firing from ASVK, sniper cartridges of 12.7×108 mm caliber are used; any cartridges of the 12.7×108 mm standard can be used.

When firing, cartridges are supplied from a box magazine. The receiving neck is located between the pistol grip fire control and the butt. The magazine is equipped with a plastic lining that allows it to be used as additional support for the shooter's left hand. Spent cartridges are ejected through a window located on the right side of the receiver, which is closed with a lid in the stowed position.

The “floating” type barrel, fixed cantilever in the receiver and not in contact with other parts of the rifle, is made by cold forging. A muzzle brake is installed on the barrel, reducing recoil force by 2.5 times.

When shooting, a bipod is used, which is attached to a special rod of the receiver. In the stowed position they fold forward.

The butt plate is equipped with a shock absorber made of porous material. This allows the shooter to fire several dozen shots without experiencing discomfort in the shoulder.

Sights

The rifle is equipped with mechanical sighting devices, including a front and rear sight, mounted on a sighting bar, which can also be used as a handle for carrying the rifle. When installing an optical sight, this sighting bar tilts to the right. Standard day optical and night electro-optical sights are used. Optical and night sights are mounted on a special guide mounted on a bracket on the left side of the receiver.

Additional Information

The average dispersion diameter declared by the manufacturer is about 160 mm at a distance of 300 m (without the use of special ammunition). Warranty life, rds. − 3000.

With proper care and cleaning, the barrel can withstand 4-5 thousand shots.

ASVK is a Russian large-caliber rifle with manual reloading that uses 12.7x108 mm cartridges for firing. The rifle was designed in 2004 on the basis of the SVN-98 rifle by the Kovrov team of the design bureau of OJSC ZiD.

History of creation

The first work on creating a rifle chambered for 12.7x108 mm began at the ZiD Design Bureau in 1996, when work began on the SVN-98 large-caliber rifle. Already at that time, the first large-caliber rifles proved their effectiveness during the first “Chechen campaign,” where the rifle turned out to be in demand for destroying manpower behind cover at a distance of 1500-2000 meters. Around the same time, the V-96 Volga semi-automatic rifle was designed. This was a fundamentally new rifle of Russian designers, since large-caliber rifles had not been created for more than 50 years since the Second World War (PTRD and PTRS). Why for 50 years the Soviet army did not have a large-caliber rifle in service, which had proven itself excellent during the Second World War, remains unclear. According to one version, the thickness of the tanks reached such a thickness that they could not be penetrated by PTRD and PTRS anti-tank rifles. We can agree with this, but the enemy did not abandon the use of lightly armored vehicles, pillboxes, boats, so there was always something and someone to shoot at with large-caliber rifles. Let's go back to 1998, when the ZiD design bureau completed work on the SVN-98. The SVN-98 rifle had a small experimental batch of production. In 2000, the KSVK rifle was created, which passed army tests along with the SVN-98. ASVK model was born, on which the military finally settled and assembly line production began. During field tests, the ASVK competed well with the VM-2000, created at the IZHMASH Design Bureau; the rifle was very similar in layout and performance characteristics, but lost due to the policies of the military and design bureaus. In 2013, the ASVK rifle was put into service under the name “12.7 mm 6S8 sniper complex.” Especially for the ASVK rifle, Vladislav Nikolaevich Dvoryaninov created the 12.7 CH-special sniper cartridge (GRAU-7N34). The cartridge is suitable for shooting from other large-caliber rifles.

Automation and design

The ASVK rifle is configured according to the “BullPup” scheme. The “Bullpup” scheme involves moving the bolt, trigger mechanism, and magazine loading shaft to the rear of the rifle, behind the trigger handle. This arrangement significantly reduces the dimensions of the rifle (1350 mm), which increases the mobility and transportation of the rifle. The automatic rifle has manual reloading using a sliding bolt with a handle on the right side. Manual reloading and the BullPup scheme ensure a minimum weight of 12 kg, which is an excellent indicator for this caliber. To supply ammunition to the rifle, a box-shaped metal magazine with 5 rounds is used. For ease of shooting there are folding bipods. The barrel for the rifle is made precisely, just like for the KORD machine gun, using the cold forging method. The declared life of the barrel is stated to be 3000 shots; there are rifles that, even after 4000-5000 shots, continue to shoot at the bull's eye. The barrel has a free barrel - it does not touch other elements of the rifle. At the end of the muzzle there is a muzzle brake compensator to dampen recoil energy. Additionally, the recoil energy is dampened by a soft rubber pad on the butt. At a distance of 300 meters, the spread of bullets is 160 mm. To reduce recoil there is. For aiming from a rifle there is a mechanical open sight, consisting of a folding front sight and rear sight. The rifle has a dovetail or Piccatini rail mounting point. The safety of the rifle is ensured by a safety lever on the right side of the rifle, which blocks the trigger and the bolt.

The rifle turned out to be quite successful in its class, as it has fairly good accuracy and has minimal weight and dimensions. She received positive feedback from the fighters during the CTO in Chechnya, and was noticed during the military conflict in eastern Ukraine in 2014-2016. The rifle is capable of hitting enemy personnel in bulletproof vests or shelters at a distance of 1000-1500 meters. At such a distance, the rifle is capable of piercing sandbags, brickwork, and concrete fences, while the shooter remains relatively safe, since most enemy small arms cannot provide an adequate response at such a distance. In relation to armored vehicles, the rifle positions itself as anti-material, since in its arsenal it has armor-piercing, armor-piercing incendiary cartridges. At a distance of 700 meters, the B-32’s armor-piercing incendiary cartridges are capable of penetrating a 20-mm thick sheet of metal and igniting fuel. That is, a shooter with an AVSK rifle on the battlefield or in urban combat is able to repel almost all modern armored vehicles. At a distance of 1500-2000 meters, the shooter is capable of disabling enemy unarmored vehicles, aircraft, radar, etc.

Sniper rifle KSVK / ASVK "Kord"

KSVK

The KSVK rifle (Kovrov large-caliber sniper rifle) was developed by the Degtyarev plant (Kovrov) based on the earlier SVN-98 rifle. Initially, the rifle was called ASVK "Kord" (large-caliber army sniper rifle). The name “Kord” is interpreted as “Kovrov Gunsmiths Degtyarevtsy”.

The rifle is designed to destroy lightly armored and unarmored weapons and military equipment at a range of up to 1000 m, as well as openly located manpower wearing personal protective equipment at a range of up to 1500 m.

The KSVK sniper rifle is made according to the bullpup layout. With a significant barrel length (1000 mm), this made it possible to design a relatively compact weapon.

The KSVK does not have automatic reloading mechanisms. It is equipped with a longitudinally sliding shutter. The trigger mechanism allows firing only single shots.

ASVK
Ammunition is supplied from a 5-round box magazine. The receiving neck is located between the pistol fire control handle and the butt.

The butt plate is equipped with a shock absorber made of porous material. This allows the shooter to fire several dozen shots without experiencing discomfort in the shoulder.

When shooting, a bipod is used, which is attached to a special rod of the receiver. In the stowed position they fold forward.

The rifle is equipped with mechanical sighting devices, including a front sight and rear sight. They are mounted on a sighting bar, which can also be used as a handle for carrying the rifle. When installing an optical sight, this sighting bar tilts to the right.

In addition to the mechanical sight mounted on the folding handle for carrying the rifle, standard day optical and night electro-optical sights are used. Optical and night sights are mounted on a special guide mounted on a bracket on the left side of the receiver.

When firing standard machine-gun cartridges, the average dispersion diameter at a distance of 300 m is 160 mm.

Due to its relatively small size and weight, the KSVK can be used both by linear infantry units and by sabotage and reconnaissance groups operating behind enemy lines. It can also be used by special police units and internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs as a reliable means of long-range destruction of criminals wearing body armor and captured vehicles.

Army Sniper Rifle Large-caliber KSVK/ASVK "Kord"

At the end of the 80s, when organized crime was revived in the country, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs needed new means of fighting, including long-range sniper rifles, from which it would be possible to hit an enemy wearing a bulletproof vest and captured vehicles. And after the events in Chechnya, the army also needed large-caliber rifles. The creation of such weapons was carried out by specialists from several design bureaus.

Employees of the SKB Kovrov plant E.V. Zhuravlev, M.Yu. Kuchin, V.I. Negrulenko and Yu.N. Ovchinnikov and specialists from the Degtyarev plant (Kovrov) made their SVN-98 rifle - Negrulenko sniper rifle (originally SVN-12.7 - Negrulenko sniper rifle, 12.7 mm) - with a longitudinally sliding bolt according to the "bullpup" design , therefore, with a total length of 1350 mm, it was equipped with a meter-long barrel. For greater stability, the SVN-98 barrel was made massive, like most sniper rifles, and equipped with a muzzle brake, reducing recoil by 2.5 times. Also, to soften the recoil, the butt plate was covered with a porous material. The rifle barrel was fixed in the receiver, without contacting the rifle parts over the entire surface (the so-called “floating” type barrel).

Under the leadership of V.N. Dvoryaninov (FSUE "TsNIITOCHMASH"), a special sniper cartridge 12.7SN was developed in the dimensions of the standard cartridge 12.7×108.

Subsequently, the rifle was named KSVK (“Kovrov large-caliber sniper rifle”), and in 2004, under the designation ASVK (“large-caliber army sniper rifle”), it was adopted by the Russian army.

ASVK (GRAU index - 6B7) is designed to perform special fire missions to destroy lightly armored and unarmored weapons and military equipment, as well as openly located manpower, including in personal protective equipment, single, group targets and other technical means at ranges up to 1500 m.

The rifle is made according to the bullpup layout. The “floating” type barrel, cantilevered into the receiver and not in contact with other parts of the rifle, is made by cold forging. It is equipped with a muzzle brake or a device combining the functions of a muzzle brake and a flash suppressor. The bolt is longitudinally sliding, the reloading handle is located in front of the trigger guard. The trigger mechanism allows firing only single shots. A heavy barrel, a rigid receiver, and manual reloading help improve shooting accuracy. The charging handle is located on the right. The fuse box located on the right also plays the role of a lock for the receiver window cover. The cartridges are fed from a 5-round detachable box magazine. The receiving neck is located between the pistol fire control handle and the butt. Spent cartridges are ejected through a window located on the right side of the receiver, which is closed with a lid in the stowed position.

The shoulder rest is equipped with a shock absorber made of porous material. The pad on the front of the shoulder rest serves as a rest for the shooter's left hand. An unregulated “cheek” is attached to the receiver. When shooting, a bipod is used, which is attached to a special rod of the receiver. In the stowed position they fold forward. A separate carrying handle is located near the center of gravity of the rifle.

The rifle is equipped with mechanical sighting devices, including a front sight and rear sight. Optical and night sights are mounted on a special guide mounted on a bracket on the left side of the receiver. The main sights are 1P71, night sights 1PN111. It is possible to use sights PSO-1, POS 13x60, POS 12x50.

The 12.7SN (7N34) cartridge was developed especially for ASVK with increased armor penetration and improved accuracy - the dispersion diameter at a distance of 100 m is 4 cm. It is also acceptable to use standard 12.7x108 cartridges (BZ cartridge with B-32 bullet, BZT- cartridge 44, BZT-44M cartridge), but their use does not allow for high-precision fire at long distances.

ASVK is used as part of complexes:

6S8 - 6V7 rifle, 7N34 cartridge, 1P71 optical sight, 1PN111 night sight;
