The GP-34 grenade launcher (index GRAU-6G34) is a Russian 40-mm muzzle-loading under-barrel grenade launcher for Kalashnikov and Nikonov assault rifles , designed to destroy enemy personnel and unarmored vehicles with VOG-25 shots, it can also use light, smoke, and gas for firing shots. The grenade launcher was developed in 2000 and produced at Izhevsk Machine-Building Plant. History and design

The GP-34 grenade launcher is a modernization of the GP-25 and GP-30 grenade launchers. The modernization work took place at the Izhmash Concern design bureau under the leadership of Nikolai Bezoborodov. After modernization, the grenade launcher was unified for installation on the AK-74M, the hundredth series of Kalashnikov assault rifles, AK-12, AN-94 (Nikonova) AEK-971.

The design and principle of operation of the GP-34 is similar to the GP-25 and GP-30 grenade launchers. The task of modernizing the grenade launcher was to unify it for installation on modern Russian-made assault rifles; the trigger was redesigned to eliminate the possibility of misfires. The shot extractor has become more convenient, and the shot loading mechanism has become safer. For the first time, a sight was used that adjusted for derivation (the deviation of the shot in the direction of rotation of the shot during flight), which is useful when shooting overhead or at long distances; the sight was placed on the right side. When setting the distance on the sight, correction for derivation occurs automatically. The grenade launcher is loaded with unitary (the propellant charge and the grenade are made in the same housing) shots from the muzzle of the barrel; after the shot, the shooter does not have to waste time extracting the cartridge case. The grenade launcher barrel has 12 rifling along which the grenade moves with ready-made hooks for these rifling. Having reached the day, the shot clings to the safety lock, which holds the shot in the barrel at negative angles. To fire a shot, the shooter presses the tight trigger, which cocks the mainspring, which breaks when the trigger is in the extreme position; after the break, the spring transfers energy to the trigger, which hits the firing pin, followed by a blow to the shot primer, after which the grenade flies out. When the hook is released, the safety lock is unlocked. The safety of the grenade launcher is ensured by a safety lever. To extract unfired or defective (misfired) shots, a convenient extractor is provided; when you press it, the pin presses on the bottom of the shot and pushes it out of the barrel. The first releases of the GP-32 were supplied with a collapsible cleaning rod, which was placed in the butt of the machine gun, which were also specially made for the use of the GP-34. Subsequent versions of the GP-34 were modified to use a full cleaning rod under the barrel. It is often mentioned in sources of information that the GP-34 has a safety lock that blocks the grenade from falling out of the barrel - the information is not correct, since this lock was already on the OKG-40 Iskra and the GP-25 Koster.
