Firearms, like any other weapon, are nothing more than tools created by people to achieve certain goals. And whether “good” goals or “bad” ones will be achieved in each specific case depends solely on the people themselves. The author of this site fully shares the view that any capable and law-abiding citizen who has reached the age of majority should have the right to own a weapon. Naturally, along with this right, he must be assigned corresponding duties and responsibilities - to ensure the safety of others, first of all. As stated above, guns can be used for a variety of legal purposes. Within this section, the main attention will be paid to civilian weapons, primarily aimed at protecting people’s lives (self-defense, survival in the wild), as well as for some applied types of shooting sports (practical shooting, etc.). Most of the described samples are also suitable for hunting as well as training or recreational shooting, however, specialized samples of hunting and sporting weapons will mostly be left “behind the scenes”. It is traditionally believed that short-barreled weapons—pistols and revolvers—are most suitable for self-defense “on the street,” and the author fully shares this opinion. However, in the wild or in special conditions in cities (social unrest associated with violence, natural disasters, etc.), long-barreled weapons are a better choice due to both the longer firing range and more accurate shooting, especially under stress ( learning to shoot more or less accurately from a gun or carbine is usually easier than from a pistol). In addition, a short long-barreled weapon (carbine, short shotgun) can be a good (and often the only, in the context of a legislative ban on short-barreled weapons) weapon for protecting your home. The main requirements for self-defense weapons are simplicity, reliability, high stopping power with a minimum probability of ricochets and a short maximum lethal range of a shot (to exclude accidental victims). In addition, such a weapon must be sufficiently maneuverable, and therefore compact. Speaking about survival in the wild, the first place, as a rule, comes to the possibility of hunting small game with this weapon to provide food, as well as the possibility of protection from predators and, possibly, “unkind people.” Such weapons are usually subject to minimum weight and size requirements, while maintaining reasonable shot efficiency at short and medium ranges. Requirements for sporting weapons usually primarily include ensuring high accuracy and stability of results, and acceptable reliability. Requirements for hunting weapons can vary widely. depending on the intended types of hunts and game.

And finally, always remember the 4 basic safety rules when handling weapons!
Rule #1: Treat all weapons as if they were always loaded.
Rule #2: The muzzle of a gun should always be pointed in a safe direction.
Rule #3: Keep your index finger away from the trigger until the gun is aimed and you are ready to fire.
Rule #4: Always know exactly what your goal is, what is next to it and behind it.

TOP 5 of the best civilian guns in Russia
For more than two years now, amendments to weapons legislation have been in force in Russia, allowing the population to use civilian weapons for self-defense. Hunting rifles also fall under this definition.
Of course, this does not mean that experienced hunters should walk the streets with their favorite “tulka” on their backs. But it is quite possible to keep a carbine at home for every firefighter and not be a passionate lover of hunting. True, it is necessary to correctly prepare all the necessary documents, but a healthy, adequate person should not have any special problems with this.
The range of hunting weapons in Russia is quite wide. On sale are both unpretentious examples of Soviet classics and elite examples that combine high quality workmanship with elaborate, rich finishes.
But the main purpose of a weapon is still not to please the eyes of its owner, so the Slovo i Delo magazine has compiled for you the top 5 best examples of hunting weapons that can faithfully serve their owner.
MA-136 SU
Photo: miroh.ru
In fifth place is the MA-136 SU hunting carbine from VPMZ “Molot”. Made on the basis of the legendary AKMS assault rifle, which is unmistakably guessed by its appearance. Naturally, the carbine differs from the original sample. There are forensic marks in the barrel bore, and a special mechanism blocks the trigger when the stock is folded. There is also no possibility of automatic fire. The Americans would have welded a limiter on the number of cartridges into the magazine, but in Russia they did without this nonsense.
KSO-9 Krechet
Photo: modernfirearms.net
The fourth place was taken by the KSO-9 Krechet self-loading carbine developed at the Zlatoust Machine-Building Plant. The carbine is based on the PP-91 “Kedr” submachine gun produced by the same ZMZ. Automatic with blowback, trigger mechanism. The receiver is stamped steel, but the fittings are plastic. “Krechet” is equipped with a Picatinny rail, which allows you to install the desired equipment.
The disadvantages are the small magazine capacity (only 10 rounds) and somewhat overweight. However, for sports shooting and home self-defense, the KSO-9 is ideal.
Vepr-15
Photo: topwar.ru
The Vepr-15 self-loading carbine was in third place in our improvised rating. Created on the basis of the American Colt M4 carbine. A reliable friend of the hunter, it is able to work confidently at low temperatures, which makes it suitable for hunting in our latitudes.
The carrying handle is removable; a collimator sight or a low-power optical sight can be attached instead. The magazine holds 10 rounds; there is no automatic fire capability.
Saiga-9
Photo: modernfirearms.net
Saiga-9 takes a well-deserved second place. The carbine is produced by the Izhevsk Machine-Building Plant and is popular both in Russia and abroad.
The Saiga inherited its appearance from the Vityaz submachine gun, but the civilian carbine also has differences. Naturally, this is the lack of the ability to fire in bursts. The Saiga also features an elongated barrel, shot blocking when the stock is folded, and a Weaver rail on the receiver cover.
Orsis AS-15

First place goes to the Orsis AS-15 self-loading hunting carbine from. It is based on Eugene Stoner's famous AR-15 rifle, but modified with a piston gas engine. The carbine fires heavy bullets and has a rifling pitch of 203 mm. The butt of the carbine is telescopic. A long Picatinny rail allows you to mount a variety of sights, and three additional rails on the forend accommodate additional tactical equipment.
