Varieties
To correctly determine the description of a pneumatic gun, you need to imagine what exactly this definition refers to - appearance, technical properties, the ability to implement specific functions, or the desire of marketers to call pneumatic weapons a certain subspecies - a pneumatic gun.
In the family of pneumatic weapons, a machine gun is usually understood to be externally similar to the prototype of an automatic firearm - a machine gun or automatic rifle, capable of firing both single and automatic shots. But for pneumatics, such a classification concerns only external similarity, so automatic machines with a caliber of 4.5 mm can be classified as gas-cylinder, spring-piston and multi-compression.
Gas cylinders
To propel the bullet, compressed gas is used, usually carbon dioxide CO2. The convenience of this particular gas is that it is safe and easy to fill into steel cylinders. For machines of this system, steel cylinders with a capacity of 8 and 12 grams are used.
Shooting is carried out with steel balls; this is the most convenient type of ammunition, since most models of gas-cylinder pneumatics have a smooth barrel without rifling.
Most models fire in single shots.
The advantages of these models include attractive appearance and ease of shooting. Many models use parts from military weapons.
Spring-piston
For spring-piston rifles, the similarity with real machine guns is realized in only a few models. And although the external similarity is quite great, changing the position of the weapon and reloading before each shot neutralizes the impression of the weapon.
To reload, you need to break the barrel, cock the spring and load the weapon. The movement of the piston is carried out by releasing the mainspring.
The advantage of this type of weapon is a rifled barrel made of weapon steel and the ability to use both explosive balls and lead bullets. This type of pneumatic machine gun has the most powerful shot - the bullet’s flight speed reaches 315 m/s, the ball’s speed reaches 270-290 meters per second.
Multicompression
Traditionally, multi-compression pneumatics are popular for creating models of American and European-made automatic machines. Externally similar to combat models, multi-compression models require preliminary pumping of the reservoir before firing. Then everything resembles the use of conventional spring-piston pneumatics - loading ammunition and firing. One shot. In most cases, multi-compression models are single-shot, but there are also magazine versions with 5 or 7 shots.

Advantages and disadvantages
Models of pneumatic assault rifles of 4.5 mm caliber presented on the market, which are similar to the Kalashnikov assault rifle of the Izhevsk Arms Plant, are based on a gas cylinder system. It is this Kalashnikov AK-47 pneumatic assault rifle and its modifications that will participate in the description and comparison. This is one of the most successful pneumatic assault rifles in terms of technical solution, having almost 100% similarity in size and details with the original Kalashnikov assault rifle.

Energy source | Gas cylinders 8 or 12 grams |
Total length | 943 mm |
Weight | 3400 - 3600 grams |
The first model was manufactured as a hybrid of an air pistol and a military weapon kit. The Kalashnikov AK-74 assault rifle and the Izh-671 Cornet air pistol were used as a donor. This model had more disadvantages than advantages, but its future fate was influenced by two factors - the desire of gunsmiths themselves to work in this direction and a revolutionary breakthrough in the minds of consumers who wanted to have a pneumatic version of the most popular weapon in the world.
Advantages | Flaws |
Realistic appearance. Possibility of incomplete disassembly. The model is suitable for initial training in shooting skills and entertainment. Solid weight and reliable mechanisms. The fuse is like a real Kalashnikov. It is possible to fasten a belt. Sights are sectoral, open type. | The appearance does not quite match the original. Inconvenient recharging system. Not suitable for all shooters due to size. There is no function for firing in bursts or simulating weapon recoil when fired. A hollow ramrod is used as a barrel extension, which affects the accuracy and accuracy of shooting. |
Has a well-recognized appearance and similarity to the prototype | The machine is made of silumin alloy. Has many flaws in the form of castings and traces of machining. It weighs significantly less than the original. However, upon closer examination, it is discovered that the pistol grip and trigger guard are not entirely similar to a real AK. The rounded thick shapes create a prop-like feel. |
Possibility of using both 8 and 12 gram cylinders | The prototype of the machine gun is a pneumatic pistol. In reality, this model is an air pistol, only with an additional body kit in the form of a prop for a machine gun. Unfortunately, the model has a complex loading process. In fact, Junker 1 is not even an enlarged machine gun, but a model of a pistol. |
Has realistic sights | In reality, this automatic pistol has rather mediocre muzzle energy characteristics - with such dimensions, from a full cylinder it is rarely possible to achieve a bullet speed higher than 110 meters/second in the first shot. |
High maintainability | Junker assault rifles of this series have complete interchangeability of repair kits with the Anix 101 and Izh-671 Cornet pistols. |
Widespread and easy to find on the secondary market | Interestingly, it was this model that served as the impetus for the development of newer and more advanced pneumatic assault rifles of the Kalashnikov family. But, alas, most of those offered today on the secondary market can only be of value as donor parts or used for independent upgrades. |
Kalashnikov assault rifle Junker-2
Characteristic | Options |
Caliber | 4.5 mm |
Barrel length | 440 mm |
Barrel type | Steel rifled |
Ammunition type | BB balls |
Magazine capacity | 18 |
Shot speed | 70-120 m/s |
Rate of fire | 60-80 rounds per minute |
Power | 7.5 J |
Aim | Front sight and rear sight |
Energy source | Cylinders 8 or 12 grams |
Weight | 3500 grams |
The Junker-2 rifle was based on the AK-105 combat assault rifle. The rifle was intended for target practice. Gas cylinder system based on the MP-654K pistol. The receiver from the AK-105 and the valve assembly from the pistol were used as the body. The movement of explosive balls with a caliber of 4.5 mm is driven by 8- or 12-gram cylinders of carbon dioxide. Sights are sectoral, open type. Type of shooting - single.
Advantages | Flaws |
Detailed appearance, improved processing of individual parts. | The model range includes only 2 models AKSU-74 and AK-105. Many parts are used from cold weapons. The models are heavy and therefore not suitable for all shooters. For this model, as experience shows, falls even from a small height have a very critical effect. Do not allow a fall onto the pistol grip or attached magazine. |
Has the ability to use 12-gram cylinders. | The valve assembly is located in the store. Reloading requires its removal, which negatively affects the viability of the system; constant removal and fastening of the magazine valve reduces the shooting efficiency, and the cylinder's life is quickly consumed. |
Has realistic sights. | To install an optical sight or collimator, it is necessary to modify the machine - install brackets and strips. |
High maintainability | To carry out repairs or improvements, you must contact a specialist or take the machine to a workshop. |
It has value as an exclusive transitional model to more advanced models. | The machine was produced since 2001, replacing the first generation Juncker. The mechanism from the MP-654K air pistol is used. Due to the short production period, it is difficult to find a working model. |
Kalashnikov assault rifle Junker-3
Characteristic | Options |
Caliber | 4.5 mm |
Barrel length | 440 mm |
Barrel type | Steel rifled |
Ammunition type | BB balls |
Magazine capacity | 18 |
Shot speed | 70-130 m/s |
Rate of fire | 60-80 rounds per minute |
Power | 7.5 J |
Aim | Front sight, rear sight |
Energy source | Cylinders 8 or 12 grams |
Weight | 3600 grams |
The Junker -3 rifle follows the design of the AKMS-74 assault rifle. Pneumatic pistols MP-654K and MP-651 are used as valve units. Box-type magazine for 18 explosive balls. Unlike the Junker-1, shooting is carried out through the barrel, and not through a ramrod. The receiver of the machine gun has a standard mount for optical instruments on the left side, which allows you to attach optical sights to the machine gun.
Advantages | Flaws |
Detailed appearance. | Despite the use of many parts from military weapons, the main flaw is the installation of a gas cylinder in the pistol grip, which gives away the original system of the MP-654K pistol. |
Use of 12 gram cylinders. | The unification of the cylinders did not bring a significant breakthrough in the form of a burst firing option; it is still a large and heavy pistol. |
Realistic moving mechanisms of a real machine gun. | The fact that the model has the ability to distort the fake shutter and do incomplete disassembly did not affect the quality and realism of shooting in any way. Still the same maximum 110 meters per second and the absence of a blowback function. When disassembling you need to be careful - the metal bolt and receiver can damage the valve assembly. |
High maintainability. | Indeed, it must be admitted that it is better and easier to repair, but as for improving the ballistic qualities, the use of precision machines is needed here - the design itself does not make shooting more accurate and accurate. |
Has several models. | There are models of the traditional AKSU-74, as well as AK-74 and AK-105 on the market. This is one of the widest model lines of Junkers, which, however, does not in any way affect the accuracy and accuracy of fire. |
Kalashnikov assault rifle Junker-4
Characteristic | Options |
Caliber | 4.5 mm |
Barrel length | 440 mm |
Barrel type | Steel rifled |
Ammunition type | BB balls |
Magazine capacity | 30 |
Shot speed | 70-130 m/s |
Rate of fire | 60-80 rounds per minute |
Power | 7.5 J |
Aim | Front sight, rear sight |
Energy source | Cylinders 8 or 12 grams |
Weight | 3600 grams |
The latest generation of Junker rifles with a gas cylinder system. Available in models AK-74 and AK 105. The valve assembly is non-removable, installed inside the magazine case. The model uses an in-line magazine for 30 explosive balls. Sights are sectoral, open type. Shooting is carried out with single shots.
Advantages | Flaws |
Detailed appearance. | Inconvenient loading system with a tightly installed valve module and a removable plastic magazine. |
Increased magazine capacity. | Indeed, the magazine is designed to hold 30 rounds, which is much more than other domestic and foreign competitors, but the weapon never implemented the burst firing function. In addition, from one cylinder you can shoot only 60-65 balls without losing speed. |
Realistic moving mechanisms of a real machine gun. | No blowback function. When putting the safety on, you have to put in extra effort. The model needs careful care - just like a real machine gun, dust gets into the receiver. When cleaning and lubricating, you need to use a special lubricant to prevent damage to the rubber seals of the valve assembly. |
High maintainability. | With proper operation, repairs will be needed after 50 or even 60 cylinders. But if you want to hold a competition to meet the assembly and disassembly standards, then you need to immediately decide which workshop is more convenient to hand over the machine gun to. |
Has several models | The model range is represented by AK-74 and AK 105 |

For professionals | ★★★★★ (3.0 out of 5) | |
The model is perfect for initial training in the techniques and methods of shooting from a Kalashnikov family assault rifle. An excellent specimen for recreational shooting and training. Alas, it is not of much interest to professionals due to the weak power characteristics of the weapon and the inability to fire in bursts. |
The popularity of the Kalashnikov assault rifle throughout the world proves that the production of pneumatic assault rifles is not only the destiny of Russian gunsmiths. The American Crosman and the Taiwanese Cybergun also have pneumatic guns in their arsenal, which can roughly be classified as belonging to the Kalashnikov family.
Model | Short description | Price |
Kalashnikov Junker 4 assault rifle | The machine gun was created on the basis of a real combat machine gun. In appearance, all marks, sighting devices and parts of military weapons are present in a emasculated form. Has a weight close to the real sample. The model uses a reliable valve mechanism. The enlarged magazine allows for effective training. Like military weapons, it has the reliability and durability of all parts. | 18000 |
Cybergun AK 47 | One of the most popular versions of the pneumatic machine. Designed for recreational shooting. Despite the similarity, upon closer examination, inaccuracies and flaws in the finishing are revealed. Realistic wooden pads and buttstock are used. It is possible to install a belt, although in a rather unusual Chinese version of the swivel. Sights are standard, open type. There is no option to install an optical sight. | 13990 |
Crosman Comrade AK | A typical representative of gas-cylinder weapons for recreational shooting from the American company Crosman. Manufactured in Taiwan (under license from Crosman). Despite quality control from the parent company, the model vaguely looks like a Kalashnikov assault rifle. The shot power is weak, the range of the balls is short. Aiming is done with open sights, adjustable in two positions. There is a rail for installing optical sights, although it is not always possible to achieve accuracy when shooting even with such. | 5890 |

Modifications
The manufacturer does not provide various modifications of the gun.
The given model, despite the name, is in fact not a gas-cylinder copy of the AK-47, since the Chinese analogue of the Kalashnikov assault rifle, the Type56, was taken as the basis. But we can give an example of Russian production, which is technically closer to combat assault rifles.
Advantages and disadvantages of analogues
Advantages | Flaws | |
Automatic Junker 4 Made in Russia | Realistic appearance. Possibility of incomplete disassembly. The model is suitable for initial training in shooting skills and entertainment. Solid weight and reliable mechanisms. Large magazine for 30 balls. The fuse is like a real Kalashnikov. It is possible to fasten a belt, a bayonet, and the AK-105 model has a folding stock function. Sights are sectoral, open type. | Inconvenient recharging system. Not suitable for all shooters due to size. There is no function for firing in bursts or simulating weapon recoil when fired |
Cybergun AK 47 Made in Taiwan | Reasonable price and decent quality. External similarity with AK-47 and AKM. Optimal weight for most shooters. It can be carried on a belt. | Chinese variation on the theme of the Chinese machine gun. There is no precise fitting of the parts; the bolt and fuse clearly look fake. The model is sensitive to ammunition and cylinders. Partial disassembly is not performed. |
Crosman Comrade AK | Affordable price. Great for recreational shooting. Conveniently located safety catch for beginning shooters. | A real plastic model of a machine gun. Inconvenient process of loading the cylinder, unrealistically stamped parts of the external body kit. Bunker ball loading system. It is impossible to carry out correct aiming due to the uncomfortable butt. Unreliable fixation scheme for the plastic frame stock. Model for children's hands. |
Reviews
Valentin Zharov, 26 years old. Rostov-on-Don:
“We initially considered a Chinese machine gun for purchase. But in the store I changed my mind in favor of Junker and never regretted it. The impression is that you are holding a military weapon. You can disassemble and install the sight. I tried to compare it with a Chinese with a friend. Ours is head and shoulders above both in power and quality. For those who want to start practicing, I recommend the Kalashnikov Junker assault rifle; whenever possible, I try to take it with me to the dacha.”
