The Fabarm L4S series (Light - light, 4 - magazine capacity, Slim - thin) was developed for running hunting, where the minimum weight of the gun is extremely important. The FABARM gas release mechanism was slightly modified, so the forend turned out to be very thin and elegant - a rare case for semi-automatics.

The magazine has been shortened to four rounds to reduce fore-end length and improve balance. The L4S does not have a recoil spring in the stock. This allows you to install stocks of various configurations without additional adjustment. Because the L4S is chambered for 12/76 ammo, reload times are shorter than other guns chambered for 12/89 ammo, further improving handling characteristics.

The L4S also includes a revolutionary new design for the handguard; it now carries no loads at all, it cannot be installed incorrectly, which means that the handguard will not crack due to improper assembly.

Peculiarities:

• The barrel is made of chrome-molybdenum steel and pressure tested to 1630 BAR. Made with the ability to fire steel shot (the “lily” stamp on the barrel). Design

The fabarm l4s initial shotgun is well suited for shooting steel shot. The barrel of the weapon is made of chrome-molybdenum steel. The hunter receiver is made from high quality aircraft alloy. The block is laser-etched with designs depicting birds along with patterns. The logo is applied manually individually on each copy (the weapon is also varnished). After which Fabarm L4S undergoes heat treatment in an oven.

The Hunter piston is made of steel with a zirconium coating in the form of a cylinder. The coating is applied using vacuum spraying with an elastic insert. The fabarm l4s has open sights. The Tribore barrel drilling is unique because it was developed by the Italian manufacturing company fabarm. It involves dividing the barrel into several zones: a barrel bore with a diameter of 18.8 mm, a conical zone with a length of 205 mm and a service bore of 18.4 mm. The cylindrical zone has a length of 5 mm, after which the muzzle narrows. The Hunter model has grooves to allow mounting for optics.

The magazine tubes and Pulse Piston are also made using the manufacturer’s technology. The system of such a piston with an ideal balance reduces recoil when firing to zero. The steel return spring is located on the magazine tube. This provides greater stability when firing than a shotgun with a spring in the stock. The forend and stock are made by hand from quality walnut. The forend is notched for greater control of the weapon.

On the bolt there is an upper swinging cylinder, which fits into a special cutout on the barrel coupling (chrome-plated). On the left side of the fabarm l4s there are controls: two buttons. One is the bolt stop button, the second is the cutoff for the supply of cartridges from the magazine. The barrel has a latch with a metal tip. Weight is 23 grams. This solution eliminates many of the problems that semi-automatic owners encounter (for example, the loss of a protective cap from the magazine tube, which subsequently makes it impossible to use the weapon).

Regardless of the variation, each of the hunter models can be equipped with a barrel length of 610, 660, 710 and 760 mm. The under-barrel magazine can be increased at will to 8 rounds.

Modifications

Hunter weapons are available in several variations:

• Fabarm l4s Gray Hunter. Hunters often call this model “middle class”. The receiver is made of Ergal 55 alloy, which is actively used in the aircraft industry. The protective anodizing of the box for this model is gray.
• Initial Hunter. This type is produced for the Italian market and comes in black.

• L4S Sporting. Perfectly balanced, magazine reduced to 4 rounds of 70mm, several elements painted red for distinction.

Lightweight, four-shot, sleek

L4S is not the first semi-automatic from Fabarm. The Lion and XLR models have served owners faithfully for many years. We can say that L4S embodied the best of the previous systems, but did not stop there.

Fabarm L4S is a gas-operated semi-automatic machine, but the gas outlet unit here is not simple. The system is called Pulse Piston, and its main feature is a piston made of stainless steel with a zirconium coating and having an elastomer insert. The higher the mass of the projectile (and, accordingly, the greater the amount of powder gases and the pressure they develop), the more significantly this elastomeric ring is deformed against the walls of the gas cylinder, braking the movement of the piston by friction. This system ensures reliable operation of the gun's automatic system when using almost any shot load in cartridges with a case length up to 76 mm inclusive.

Even the name of the model itself is intended to convey what its creators are most proud of: in L4S, “L” stands for leggero (light), and “S” for snello (graceful). The number “4”, in turn, indicates the number of cartridges: 4 (3 in the magazine + 1 in the barrel). For those for whom this is not enough, let us remind you that in Ukraine there is a limit on magazine capacity of two cartridges for a hunting semi-automatic device. The receiver of the gun is traditionally made of the Ergal 55 alloy used in aircraft manufacturing - this solution helps reduce the weight of the semi-automatic device. Grooves are cut out on the top of the receiver to install a base for optics.

The forend has undergone a change: on the L4S, the protective cap of the magazine tube is an integral part of it. This not only ensures additional reliability and protection of the threads, but also (since the cap remains on the forend during disassembly) eliminates the risk of its loss. The fit of the wood to the metal is noteworthy: there are grooves in the box, and protrusions are made on the forend, which are installed in these grooves without the slightest gap or backlash.

The stock and fore-end can be made of classic walnut or a more practical polymer. In any case, they are equipped with quick-release swivels and an excellent recoil-reducing soft polyurethane HRA recoil pad from Cervellati. The basic set includes shims for adjusting the retraction and bending of the butt.

The L4S is offered with barrel lengths of 61, 66, 71 or 76 cm, equipped with a ventilated rib and LPA fiber optic front sight. Only 76 cm barrels are currently available to the domestic hunter. Included in the package is a set of five interchangeable Inner HP chokes - from cylinder to full choke.

Specifications

The production of the Fabarm L4S smoothbore hunting shotgun is carried out at the facilities of the Italian company Fabarm. Detailed tactical and technical characteristics of the Fabarm L4S shotgun:

• Model weight. The weight of this gun model is 3100 grams (3.1 kg) and for hunting and fishing it will be too burdensome for most shooters; here you need to be quite developed physically.
• Caliber. The caliber of the Fabarm L4S hunting rifle is 12×76.
• Magazine capacity. The L4S hunting rifle has a magazine capacity of 5+1 rounds, which complies with legal requirements.
• Number of trunks. The self-loading semi-automatic Fabarm L4S is a single-barreled weapon. The main advantage of a single-barreled hunting rifle is its reduced weight compared to double-barreled shotguns. As a rule, a single-barreled gun is lighter and, accordingly, you can work with it longer. Of course, it all depends on what kind of trophy is being hunted; sometimes the presence of a second barrel is simply redundant, for example, when hunting hazel grouse. In addition, there are multi-shot carbines and guns in which you can fire several shots until completely discharged, which gives an advantage over double-barreled weapons.
• Barrel length. For smooth-bore semi-automatic shotguns with different magazine capacities, the optimal barrel length is from 710 mm to 760 mm. The presented model has a barrel length of 760 mm (76 cm), but do not forget that, regardless of weight, it is necessary to take an individual approach to the selection of a gun.
• Chokes (chokes). The Fabarm L4S hunting rifle in most cases comes with interchangeable choke constrictions: 3 INNER HP (CIL - MEDIUM - XTREME). If desired, the hunter can purchase additional choke tubes with different choke constrictions.

After we have looked at the performance characteristics of the Fabarm L4S shotgun, we should definitely talk about its strengths and weaknesses.

Operating principle

The recharging system of fabarm l4s is gas exhaust. When fired, part of the powder gases enters the gas chamber through special holes in the barrel, pushing the piston, which acts through rods on the bolt frame. The wedge comes out of the hook, the bolt moves back, opening the chamber and removing the spent cartridge case. The bolt returns back, under the action of a spring, and a new cartridge is supplied.
