Any normal man , having once picked up a firearm, will have a passion throughout his life, to one degree or another. And perhaps you have never fired from it and never will, but you feel the desire to purchase a powerful gun for your own use.

But fortunately, in most civilized countries, in order to obtain permission to purchase firearms, you need to go through many procedures for approval by the authorities, and this red tape stops many. After all, a firearm is too dangerous and an expensive toy that should be used exclusively for its intended purpose.

But if you suddenly finally decide to purchase a personal “barrel” , then you are unlikely to want a simple pistol. A normal man will choose a “status gun ,” even if it gathers dust in the safe, but the man will know that he has it.

We present to you the Top 10 most powerful short-barreled barrels , which you are used to calling pistols and revolvers. Go!

Procedure for obtaining a license

At the initial stage, a citizen needs to prepare a package of documentation, and then contact the Licensing and Permitting Department of the territorial division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation to write an application according to the accepted template.
The law defines deadlines for consideration of an individual’s application, but due to the high workload of the territorial departments of the OLRR, processing of documentation may take longer. Important! The application for a permit is considered within two weeks from the date of receipt of the package of documents. The period for consideration of an application for a license is slightly longer and is one calendar month.

A refusal to issue a license may be issued if an incomplete package of documentation is provided. There is also a high probability of a negative decision being made if the citizen previously committed acts provided for by the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation or administrative offenses. If the refusal is unlawful, the individual has the right to appeal it by filing a statement of claim in court.

Attention! The validity period of the license is limited by the norms of Legislative Acts and is six calendar months from the date of issue. After purchasing a sporting weapon, a citizen is required to contact the OLLR of the territorial unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation at the place of registration to submit an application for registration of the purchased equipment

The registration procedure also includes obtaining a special permit to store and carry sporting weapons

Flux MP17 - the new “American dream”

The Flux MP17 is a completely new way to use a pistol attachment. As the name implies, the carbine platform is installed on the MP17 pistol, but not in the way we are used to seeing it. All that remains of the pistol itself is the bolt, barrel and magazine, and all other parts of the MP17 are its “body kit”, which can be adjusted to any style of firing, due to which an ordinary pistol turns into the main weapon capable of automatic fire.

The main advantage of the Flux MP17 platform is the linear telescopic movement of the stock, which extends in a fraction of a second. You may ask, why is it better than a regular side stock? And the fact that the fighter does not have to be distracted to nominate it, because he only needs to press a button, this allows him to activate it with one hand, reducing the time it takes to bring the weapon into combat readiness. Another advantage of this “body kit” is that there is a compartment for a second magazine, which is again very useful when fighting.

Reference. Flux MP17

The weight of the finished weapon with a full-size bolt and an empty magazine is 1.27 kg.

Length - 27.3 cm.

Width - 4.06 cm.

Height - 14.6 cm.

Such a modified pistol is well suited for all types of special forces, but there is one big “but”: this “body kit” cannot be found in Russia, because it is sold and produced only in the USA.

What do we have?

Due to the fact that in recent years the fashion for transforming pistols has increased noticeably, in 2015 at the ARMS&Hunting exhibition, the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant, part of the Kalashnikov concern, presented an additional module for transforming the PM into a carbine.

It looks, of course, not as “powerful” as previous foreign models, but it performs all the same functions “with a bang,” and besides, the Russian model is not inferior to the versatility and ease of use. Compared to foreign representatives, ours only lacks a compartment for attaching an additional magazine, and in all other characteristics the PM is identical to its “brothers”.

Speaking about “body kits”, one cannot fail to mention the Russian one, which specializes in the production of high-quality weapon tuning.

It began its production with flashlights in 1994, and already in 2006 the company supplied branded flashlights to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs. Later, a decision was made to expand production towards the development of tuning for firearms. At the moment, the assortment includes “body kits” for more than 40 weapon models, such as machine guns, pistols, carbines, shotguns, SMGs, light machine guns and rifles. The company actively cooperates with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, FSB, FSO and the Ministry of Defense of Russia.

Fittings

Initially, rifled guns loaded through muzzles, which were used from the 16th to the 19th centuries, were called fittings. They were two to three times superior to smooth-bore weapons, and were also distinguished by good shooting accuracy, so they were widely used among the troops. In the middle of the 19th century, up to a third of the soldiers of the advanced armies fought with fittings. However, the low rate of fire and high cost limited the use of such rifles.

In the modern understanding, fittings are a special type of hunting weapon, a rifle with breaking barrels. Such guns are rarely chosen as the first rifled weapon; they are usually purchased after gaining experience in using a carbine. Many experienced hunters prefer them.

The main advantages of fittings:

  • the second shot can be fired almost instantly, since all you need to do is move your finger to the other trigger;
  • unions have better balance than bolt-on carabiners, although this is not true for all models.

At the same time, in terms of shooting accuracy, the fittings are inferior to bolt-on carbines.

In total, three types can be distinguished:

  • with one barrel;
  • with two barrels;
  • combination fittings with two, three or four barrels.

A double-barrel fitting can have barrels of the same caliber or different ones. Combined models combine rifled barrels with smoothbore ones. The most popular are rifles and combination shotguns with two or three barrels. The nozzle barrels can be positioned vertically and horizontally. Vertical models provide better shooting accuracy and are therefore more preferable.

The initial speed of a fired bullet can exceed one and a half kilometers per second, while the firing range without changing the trajectory is about four hundred meters. Possible fitting calibers are from 6.99 to 15.25 mm. They are used primarily for hunting large and strong animals. The longest-range models are almost as good as carbines in their characteristics.

Examples of double-barreled shotguns and combination shotguns:

  • MP-251;
  • Finnsport 512;
  • BRNO ZH 340;
  • Antonio Zoli Express;
  • Antonio Zoli Corona;
  • Browning Express Erice;
  • Beretta S689 Silver Sable;
  • Blaser 95;
  • Blaser 97;
  • Merkel 2022.

An example of a three-barrel model is Antonio Zoli Drilling. This gun has two smooth barrels and one rifled barrel.

Why are rifling needed at all?

The barrel is the most important part of any firearm. It gives the bullet translational and rotational movement in a certain direction. We can say that the ammunition and barrel determine the basic ballistic characteristics of any small arms.

The rotation of the bullet is especially important, and if it is desirable for a round bullet, then for an oblong bullet it is simply necessary. Such a bullet, fired from a smooth-bore weapon, will immediately begin to tumble randomly. The fact is that its centers of gravity and the application of aerodynamic forces do not coincide, therefore, without the stabilizing gyroscopic effect that rotation creates, an elongated bullet is not capable of maintaining its position in space.

The barrel of a rifled firearm consists of a chamber, a connecting cone (or bullet entry) and a rifled part. The cartridge is fixed in the chamber before firing; in its shape and size it repeats the cartridge case. The connecting cone is necessary for the correct insertion of the bullet into the rifling of the barrel; the dimensions of the rifling in it gradually increase from zero to the usual size characteristic of a particular type of weapon. The rifled part of the barrel gives the bullet a rotational motion, which subsequently stabilizes it in flight. At the moment of firing, the bullet casing or the leading belt of the projectile fits tightly into the rifling, which prevents the breakthrough of powder gases between the bullet (projectile) and the walls of the barrel bore.

Rifles are grooves that run along the surface of the bore, from the connecting cone to the muzzle. Each such groove has a bottom and two sides. The spaces that protrude between the rifling are called rifling margins. The edge that “guides” the bullet is called the combat edge; it is clearly visible from the breech of the barrel. The edge opposite to it is called the blank edge; it is visible from the muzzle of the barrel. In some countries, the caliber of a rifle is the distance between the opposite fields of the rifling, in others it is calculated by the distance between the bottoms of the rifling.

The cutting of the trunk can go from left to right or curl in the opposite direction. This does not particularly affect the combat characteristics of the weapon. The direction of the rifling in different countries is determined rather historically; in Russia (USSR), the USA and Germany it is right-handed, and in England and France it is left-handed.

The smaller the rifling fields, the easier it is for the bullet to penetrate into them. However, if their value is less than necessary, then the bullet may break off from the rifling. On the other hand, excessive channel depth can cause the bullet casing to rupture or shatter. In addition, deep rifling creates significant protrusions on the bullet casing, which worsens its ballistic characteristics. Taking into account all of the above, the depth of rifling is usually made equal to 1/50 to 1/70 of the caliber of the weapon. Initially, the fields made fewer riflings themselves, thus reducing barrel wear, but after the advent of more durable materials, this practice was abandoned.

New life for the old Glock-17

How to make a carbine from a pistol? Just ask Israeli gun tuning company CAA Tactical. The Micro-Roni body kit of this company made it possible to turn a regular Glock-17/22/23 into a compact carbine. Unlike the previous “body kit”, the Mirco-Roni kit does not require disassembling the weapon. It is also adapted for both “left-handers” and “right-handers”, because the shutter lever can be controlled with either hand.

Like any self-respecting tuning kit, Mirco-Roni includes many useful features, such as an additional front handle with a compartment for a second magazine, a folding stock and many other useful little things that can help a fighter.

The manufacturer states that the Mirco-Roni platform is made of polymer and aluminum and is capable of increasing the efficiency and accuracy of shooting up to 300 m, while the length of the pistol itself in the “body kit” is 56.5 cm with the butt extended and 35 cm with the stock folded, the maximum width is 6.3 cm, and height - 14.5 cm, the weight of the system is 1.58 kg.

Unlike the Flux MP17, this kit can be purchased in the public domain, but Mirco-Roni is still inferior in some characteristics to the “American”, namely: weight, size and mechanism for using the stock.
