Trauma from the Yarygin combat pistol (MR-353), quite a worthy weapon

It only took a few years for domestic manufacturers of traumatic weapons to bring to the market a series of worthy models that can compete with foreign analogues in many respects. To be precise, not all models have earned popular recognition, but many of them are in the leading positions of the rating list. Let us pay attention to the traumatic pistol MP-353, which is designed on the basis of the Yarygin combat pistol (PYa).

History of creation

For reference, we provide historical data. In 1993, the winner of a competition established by the Ministry of Defense was the MP-443 model, later called “Rook”. The purpose of this pistol was to replace the legendary PM, which, despite all its military merits, had become obsolete. The reason for the gradual abandonment of the PM was the inability to use non-standard cartridges, since the Makarov was designed only for the 9mm caliber (9x18 mm). Modern requirements went beyond this framework.

Difficulties with financing in the army did not allow the model to be quickly put into service. The PYa pistol reached the security forces only 10 years after its triumph. Grach began to be supplied to the structures of the Ministry of Internal Affairs even later.

The model turned out to be so successful that several modifications were created based on it. The MP-446 pistol, better known as the “Viking”, became the prototype of the current MP-353, and the MP-446s version was specially designed for sports shooting.

The beginning of the 2000s was marked by the beginning of mass production of traumatic weapons, which were not just a copy of combat weapons, but were also made from combat barrels by altering some parts. The release date of Yarygin's traumatome (MR-353) was in 2009. Almost immediately they went into mass production. The Izhevsk Mechanical Plant was engaged in assembling the pistol. The civilian Rook (that’s what the traumatic pistol was called) has earned recognition for its qualities, which is why the plant has not yet abandoned its production. This model can be quite easily purchased, despite the fact that the weapon requires licensing.

What's wrong with the trunk?

For any firearm, the barrel is the element on which not only the accuracy of shooting depends, but also the speed of the bullet, and therefore its destructive power. In the MP-353 it is made of high-quality stainless steel, however, looking into it, you can see that the engineers of the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant clearly overdid it with the design, which should prevent the firing of live ammunition. For these purposes, there are two welded cone-shaped protrusions on the inner surface of the barrel. These “teeth” almost completely overlap each other. However, this does not in any way affect the flight characteristics of the bullet. In order for the pistol to fully comply with the requirements of the forensic service, its barrel is welded to the bolt, so it is almost impossible to convert it into a military weapon using a homemade method.

Model description

The MP-353 pistol has been certified as a weapon of limited destruction. This category was introduced by the weapons law relatively recently. Traumatic pistols are an integral part of the LLC. The purpose of the MP-353 trauma weapon is a means of self-defense. Like other similar devices, the pistol uses rubber bullet cartridges. It is this model that is suitable for 45 Rubber cartridges, which are produced by PKP AKBS LLC in Nizhny Novgorod, as well as by the Tekhkrim enterprise in Izhevsk.

According to the developer, the gun can operate reliably in the temperature range from -20°C to 50°C degrees. Every specialist would want to start the review with the external design. As for the visual impression, there seem to be no complaints about the model. However, many weapon connoisseurs argue that the style created could have been more modern and ascetic. Although there is an opinion that puts simplicity at the forefront. In this regard, there is no way to find the truth.

In terms of its size, PYa belongs to the middle class. In this parameter, there are also radically opposing opinions.

  • Some prefer to show the attacker a powerful argument that will resolve any controversial situation with its appearance alone.
  • Others prefer compact weapons that easily fit into a holster or special bag. Surprise can also take the aggressor by surprise.

Since 2011, Russian legislation has prohibited the conversion of a combat pistol into a traumatic one, therefore all models released since 2011 began to differ significantly in their design, operation and reliability.

The Grach combat pistol was based on a short-stroke barrel movement, and the MP-353 traumatic pistol was equipped with a blowback action. The return spring is located under the barrel. The shutter itself moves along special guides. At first glance, it may seem that the frame of the pistol is plastic, but this is just a coating. There is a steel frame inside.

The pistol grip is made of plastic that is pleasant to the touch. This style was borrowed from some sports models. The design of a special protrusion on the ejector allows you to focus on the last cartridge. In addition, this protrusion leaves the bolt in the rearmost position. After the clip has been replaced, you need to press the slide stop lever and the pistol is ready to fire.

Weight distribution throughout the pistol is important to any shooter. After firing, every weapon is subject to a reaction force, also called recoil. If you hold the gun in your hand, the recoil will cause the barrel to shoot up. Only the mass of the gun can counteract this effect. Its balancing is so successful that the center of mass is slightly shifted forward, so the barrel is quite inert. As a result, high accuracy is achieved. The aimed shooting distance for the civilian pistol Grach is 8 m. This value is declared by the manufacturer, so in practice the pistol shows the best results.

If you completely disassemble the pistol, you can count about 50 components. Incomplete disassembly implies the selection of only eight parts, including the trigger, frame, fuse, bolt, sighting device, spring, magazine, barrel.

Modern self-defense

The group presented PYa in the popular 10x28T caliber. This event was awaited by many fans of both Russian weapons in general and weapons chambered for the 10x28T cartridge in particular. What did we get in the new pistol?

Firstly, as I already said, the cartridge is 10x28T

. It is considered more successful, since the weapon-cartridge complex in the .45 Rubber version sometimes loses precisely due to the quality of the “45” caliber cartridges.

Secondly, we got the magazine capacity increased to the maximum - 10 rounds.

Maybe for some, one cartridge is not a big difference at all. For me, the “more is better” principle works. Unless absolutely necessary (for example, for concealed carry), I would not choose a weapon with a small magazine capacity.

Thirdly, thanks to the appearance of the MP-356 on the market, those wishing to buy weapons now have a choice between calibers

, as in the case of traumatic PM (MR-79-9TM and MR-80-13T).
True, the PYa, which is obvious, is sold in the 10x28T version, and not 9 r.a.
Like the MP-353, the MP-356 comes with a spare magazine, which is a very nice addition for the owner of a limited-kill weapon. MP-356 pistols from fresh batches work normally out of the box, without any problems. The bullet passes through the barrel freely and does not explode. At the same time, the barrel itself is quite thick, which gives confidence in its reliability. Thanks to the availability of a wide range of traumatic action cartridges (PTD) 10x28T, the gun owner can choose the optimal PTD to achieve the best performance from his pistol.

So can the newcomer MP-356 replace the veteran MP-79-9TM?

I'm sure he can.

The PU in caliber 10x28T has a larger magazine capacity, much better ergonomics (the presence of a double-sided safety and an adjustable magazine reset button does the trick), as well as a fresh appearance. You can install a tactical flashlight or other accessories on the pistol, which is theoretically impossible on any PM due to the lack of a guide under the barrel.

In addition, MP-356 is (obviously) a complete copy of the PYa.

And this pistol has an aggressive, and at the same time, let’s say, fresh appearance. If we are accustomed to the fact that in 50% of cases a person will take a Makarych or MP-79-9TM from a holster, then you definitely don’t expect to see a person with a Yarygin Pistol. Considering that self-defense (contrary to myths) very often begins and ends exactly at the moment when the weapon is drawn, the MP-356 has a better chance of stopping aggression with its appearance than a “PM-shaped” weapon.

That's all, friends!
What do you think about MP-356? I'm waiting for your answers in the comments! If you liked it, please like and subscribe! The Russian GUNSARMER was with you, bye!

Specifications

The tactical and technical characteristics of any weapon include indicators that do not depend on the subjective opinion of users. These indicators are set by the manufacturer and are basic. They are subject to expert verification to obtain a certificate.

  • The length of the Grach pistol is 19.8 cm. Its width is 14 cm. With these parameters, the barrel length is 112 mm. Due to the handle, the pistol is slightly wider than its “classmates”. So, its width is 38 mm, while similar models have a width that is 6-8 mm smaller.
  • We have already talked about mass distribution. As for the absolute indicator, the weight without cartridges is 830 g. A fully loaded pistol has a mass of 950 g.
  • The caliber of a pistol is defined as the diameter of its barrel. In this respect it is equal to 11.43 mm. But the type of cartridge used in the MP-353 is 45 Rubber. The sleeve contains a rubber ball with a diameter of 13 mm and a mass of 1.5 g. The mass of the entire cartridge is 7.7 g.
  • To complete the picture, it is also necessary to add that the magazine holds 7 rounds, which does not contradict the requirements of the law. The speed of the bullet when leaving the barrel is approximately 450 m/s.

The combat Yarygin is considered shit, since the magazine is made crookedly, like a Glock, but the Glock is rearranging its cartridges into 1 row, while the PYa is not.
As a result, constant poking. I shot with a PY and also shot with a Glock. A simple example with a PY: I couldn’t shoot even 50 rounds normally, some kind of garbage always happens to it. Then I took a 34 Glock and shot 150 without a single shot. Reply | Reply with quote | Quote 0 AntoXe59 01/05/2017 17:23 regarding the alterations, PMT is one of the best injuries, just like aps m. 0 Andrey Volodin 01/05/2017 17:25 I corresponded with Tekhkrim regarding the operation of the Maximum TK in the MP-353, I will give an excerpt: During tests of the MP-353 in comparison with the MP-80, it underestimated the energy from 8 to 12 J. Moreover, initially, during its development and certification, both models had the same characteristics. The plant’s technical specialists were unable to provide a clear explanation to the question of why this was done and when. Since they do not plan to produce the MP-353 anymore, they do not intend to delve into it and change anything. I myself bought the 353 as a shooting Viking MMG, with which I shoot at the club. When firing, the TK Maximum had an initial speed of 287 m/s, i.e. energy about 63 J

The mileage is about 500, during this time there was one misfire. Cartridges: technical cream maximum and normal - on the first packs there were small blowouts and even small tears, which, however, did not interfere with extraction and the operation of the automation. Now there are no blowouts. I managed to grab the ABS, with them no problems at all.

Advantages and disadvantages of the model

Based on reviews from owners, we tried to create an overall picture showing how consumers generally evaluate this model. Let us note in advance that there were more positive reviews, but the barrel, like its “classmates,” has some shortcomings, which the manufacturer is in no hurry to eliminate.

Let's talk about the advantages first.

  • Almost everyone noticed the high level of quality of parts, which has a beneficial effect on the wear resistance, reliability and service life of traumatic weapons.
  • Good accuracy for trauma allows for targeted shooting from a distance of 8 meters. By the way, the manufacturer claims the same distance when talking about effective shooting.

  • Ergonomics means that the weapon is pleasant to hold in your hand. This is largely due to the material and shape of the handle. The pistol is convenient to shoot with both hands or with one hand.
  • The force on the trigger is moderately selected, so a smooth descent is ensured. With such a descent, the barrel is least likely to be pulled to the side. Hence another factor influencing the accuracy of the shot.
  • Pistol control is available not only for right-handers, but also for left-handers. Few models can boast of this quality. On the other hand, in a critical situation, the weapon must be at hand and suitable for use with the right or left hand.

The disadvantages many include are the protruding and rather sharp parts of the sighting device. They negatively affect the speed of drawing the gun. Many people consider the transition to the 11x22T cartridge inappropriate, since this is non-standard ammunition and getting it is often problematic.

Getting permission

To obtain permission to injure Yarygin, you need to complete several steps, first of all these are:

  • submit documents to the Ministry of Internal Affairs at your place of residence;
  • undergo a medical examination;
  • obtain permission from the district police officer;
  • take weapons training courses;
  • pay the state fee.

A medical examination means an examination by a narcologist, psychiatrist, therapist, or ophthalmologist. Permission will not be given to people who are registered with a psychologist or narcologist. Getting examined by an ophthalmologist is also not done just like that. It is necessary that visual acuity be at least 0.50 (the future owner of the weapon can clearly see the top five lines of the table).

The following package of documentation must also be presented to the permitting department:

  • copy of civil passport;
  • application form;
  • two 3x4 photos;
  • medical certificate 046-1;
  • district police officer's report;
  • duty payment receipt;
  • referral to courses on training in the use of traumatism.

The following is added to this documentation:

  • the district police officer's report that he inspected the house regarding the storage of trauma equipment and the presence of a safe;
  • documents confirming completion of courses on the rules of using weapons.

To obtain a certificate of completion of courses, you need to apply to a specialized training center. Here they teach the safe use of traumatic weapons for self-defense, they teach how to zero a pistol, and the specifics of using various sights.

The program includes:

  • shooting methods;
  • theory of operating and carrying a pistol;
  • legal subtleties about obtaining permission;
  • security measures.

The course also includes training shooting, which is designed so that the future owner of the weapon can learn how to use it in a short time. The training also teaches precision shooting skills.

Obtaining a trauma license is impossible without communicating with a psychologist. The owner of the pistol is obliged to correctly assess the situation, make a final decision on the advisability of using a traumatic pistol, and concentrate on effective shooting.

The courses also include testing, during which you must correctly answer 9 out of 10 tasks.

Upon successful completion of the course, the future weapon owner will be able to receive the required certificate of completion of the course. Then you need to contact the local police officer, who will inspect the weapons storage room.

After this, you must pay a fee. Now that all the papers have been collected and presented to the Department of Investigation, you need to wait for a decision on issuing a document on the purchase of traumatic weapons. The future owner must be notified about this in writing.

Most often, the waiting time is no more than 30 days. Often, the issue is under consideration for no longer than 2 weeks, and after completion the owner will be able to obtain permission.

If a positive decision is made, then you can obtain permission from the Ministry of Internal Affairs to purchase a traumatic pistol. If a positive answer is not given, then, taking into account the law, it is challenged in court.

To obtain permission you will need the following list of documents:

  • receipt for payment for weapons from a gun store;
  • application form for obtaining a license;
  • insurance policy;
  • spent cartridges (if any are available upon purchase from the manufacturer);
  • Two 3x4 photographs;
  • Receipt for payment of state duty.

Taking into account the Federal Law “On Weapons”, the license for a traumatic pistol must be renewed every five years.

Who cannot take permission:

  1. People with a criminal record.
  2. Minor citizens.
  3. People who were brought to administrative responsibility more than once within one year.
  4. People with medical limitations.

Price

You can buy a Grach traumatat at a very reasonable price. This is not to say that the pistol is cheap, but it fully justifies its cost. A new pistol without promotions or discounts costs approximately 30 thousand rubles. Yarygin’s traumatic pistol is not uncommon, so before purchasing a weapon, it is advisable to “studied” several stores, since their prices may differ significantly.

Delivery of goods can be entrusted to a courier only if the store has its own service. This guarantees the legality of transporting weapons, so it will not cause problems for either the buyer or the seller. If you do not have one, you can contact special communications. This company has a license to transport weapons. We remind you that to purchase trauma equipment you must have a permit issued by the LRO. After purchase, the weapon must be registered within 14 days.

Dismantling Yarygin's injury

Partial disassembly is performed to clean and lubricate the weapon. The main stages consist of the following sequence:

  • remove the clip; to do this, you need to take the gun by the handle and press the magazine release button with your thumb. Remove the vacated magazine with your free hand;
  • make sure that there is no cartridge in the chamber, to do this you need to turn off the fuse, remove the bolt frame, inspect the chamber;
  • remove the contactor from the frame, to do this, squeeze it out from the right side and, holding it with your fingers near the rod, remove it from the hole;
  • remove the bolt frame with the barrel, moving the frame forward;
  • remove the barrel, rod and return spring from the bolt frame; to do this, holding the clutch, turn the barrel forward until it exits the breech and remove the barrel with the rod;
  • remove the rod from the barrel;

Finishing

For firearms of limited destruction, fine-tuning is always relevant. Especially if these weapons are produced in domestic factories. The creators of the MP-353 should be given their due, because this model is much better than its predecessors. Nevertheless, it was not without its drawbacks. The first thing you need to do is work on the barrel of the gun. Grinding the “teeth” is not recommended, as this may be considered a violation of the law, but grinding the bore is very much encouraged.

The chamber of the weapon is made of sufficient quality; you can forget about the problem with the appearance of dents after shooting, which tormented the owners of the Makarych. However, in most cases the chamber could still use some grinding. The only serious problem with the cartridge is its thin walls, which can crack during use. Unfortunately, nothing can be done about this within the framework of the law.

By and large, the trigger can be left unchanged, since it copes quite well with its assigned functions. However, those who like their weapons to operate as smoothly as possible will find something to polish in the USM. Ordinary people may not notice the results of USM grinding, so only those who are confident in their abilities and the feasibility of such modifications resort to it.

In addition to these procedures, many resort to individualizing the pistol, which he is very capable of. “Finishing” work usually includes improving the handle, replacing the clip eject key and modifying the sights.

"Izhevsk Viking"

The outstanding Izhevsk gunsmith Vladimir Yarygin, the author of more than 20 projects of military and civilian weapons, the creator of the PYa - Yarygin pistol, celebrates his 70th birthday today.
A self-loading pistol designed by Yarygin was adopted by the Russian army. A sports version also appeared, which was called “Viking”. Now Vladimir Aleksandrovich continues to work on their improvement at the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant and is celebrating the anniversary in service.

Device

The automatic operation of the model operates on the principle of blowback. The return spring is located under the barrel. This system is a fundamental difference between a traumatic pistol and a combat pistol, in which the automation is based on the use of a short barrel stroke. The MP-353 is equipped with a double-action trigger mechanism. Its open trigger allows continuous fire, relying on pre-cocking. In this case, the force required to press the trigger is much less than with self-cocking.

Replicas

Due to the growing popularity of the pistol, the market was simply obliged to satisfy the needs of the average civilian consumer and provide him with several options for copies. Of course, in addition to MMG copies of the Rook, its younger shooting brothers are of interest. And these exist in all industries:

  • Sporting weapon - MP-446S "Viking"
  • Trauma – MP-353, MP-472 “Vintuk”
  • Airsoft – Gletcher Grach-A
  • Our pneumatics are MP-655k, Gletcher Grach NBB

We see that, as in the story with the Makarov pistol and the peculiarities of Russian rejection, there are many of our MRKs. We’ll talk about the 655th pneumatic gun another time, but today we’ll focus on the Gletcher Grach air pistol.

Like other similar Gletcher solutions, the Gletcher Grach air pistol has nothing ordinary in its characteristics:

Shot speed, m/s:

steel shot

body: metal shutter: metal

Immediately a small conclusion from what we saw - the most ordinary, not powerful ball spitter without a blowback with a good supply of balls in the store.
